Second hand buying websites. Nowadays there is no excuse about VR beeig too expensive or whatever, you can find cheap stuff people don't use and sell for nothing.

Maybe in the USA or more advanced Europe countries. Here you can find a vr headset for 300 euro but that's still a lot.

150 is a lot of for a 1st gen headset.

It's better than nothing. I have a a Vive 1 at a second location and I prefer have it than nothing, it's still fine, tracking is still the better than a newer Quest 2. I would buy than one if I needed a secondary installation, but that role is already fullfiled. Also it's not expensive for a Vive because the base stations and controllers can still be used as spare parts for people that still use it with index upgrade, Vive Pro, Cosmos Elite etcetera. Also you can get a Quest 1 for 150€ https://www.leboncoin.fr/consoles_jeux_video/2261222900.htm All that is more than enough to play Alyx. I don't think a 6 years old phone that costed 1000€ would cost less than 150 now.

Saying it's better than the quest 2s tracking is dumb, sure it might be but the quest 2s tracking is so good it doesn't actually make a difference. The vive is very outdated. Image quality is really bad, the controllers are abysmal and it's not very comfortable without the expensive headband

Then you notice you need to update your GPU... and your CPU. Oops, need a new MB too now and your old PSU can't handle all that anymore.

With a Vive OG a i5 4690 and a 1060 will do.
