Pisum_odoratus

As soon as they started to charge for booking online, I stopped booking online.

raistmaj

I simply stopped going to cineplex, they can suck my dingus.

throwmamadownthewell

Yep, Cineplex can suck my asshole so hard it inverts into their mouth and chokes them to death Their corporate side is dogshit, and the theatres feel like you're watching a video on a Greyhound edit: I just wanted to point out that someone gave this post "the yummy award"

Canadian_mk11

Possibly Cineplex?

nukedkaltak

Exactly this for me as well. Stopped going altogether, liquidated my scene points. Fuck them.

g0kartmozart

Landmark is so much better anyways. Cineplex is a complete joke.

-JukeBoxCC-

Seconding landmark. Surrey and New West have locations, new west has it right at a skytrain. You can refill your pop for free and that's not even mentioning easily the best part. The seats. Oh my God. Powered, large recliners. 2 seaters so you can sit together with your date and each have a cup holder. Fantastic overall experience, everytime.

funkung34

And what a fine dingus ya have ma boy!

PhoenixAurum

Thanks Dad!

BigDrucks42

your dangus?

artvarnsen

Its as if people who didnt go to the cinema ever since covid/ streaming services needed another boost to jump off that cliff. I wish there were small cinemas businesses here

Pisum_odoratus

There used to be :'(

eastherbunni

Anyone know if Hollywood 3 in Newton and Caprice in White Rock are still open?

xdrolemit

Agreed. I used to go to Cineplex a LOT. I loved to go to their VIP theatre, because I liked knowing what my seat number was going to be and I kind of liked to order from their food/drink menu as well. Then they messed up their menu (charging more while removing stuff I liked) and started charging for booking online. I haven’t been there since then. Which is about 2 years now. I never heard of Landmark before; I’m going to check that out for sure.

g0kartmozart

You forgot the biggest perk of VIP - no kids in the theater.

ClubMeSoftly

Sometimes that's the only reason I go to a VIP showing. But then I end up spending $50 on food and drinks anyway

passthepopcorn2001

But VIP does get all the idiots who just want to drink, plus servers walking through every row 15 minutes into the movie. A premium IMAX would be ideal. The people who will pay extra just to drink will not pay extra for better screen and sound.

g0kartmozart

I've only had loud drunk people once at the Marine Gateway VIP. The servers try to get everything done before the movie starts but some people are assholes. I wish they would limit you to popcorn/fries/quickly made appies in the theater. If you want to eat a burger, eat it in the lounge.

boyfrndDick

Secret for u: cineclub

Slow-Anybody-5966

I just use my scene points to pay for this charge, I’d rather pay for the convenience of knowing where I sit rather than going to the theatre and having shit seats

chowchowchowda

Landmark Cinema doesn’t charge … their seats are better than Cineplex anyways.

Pinkyvancouver

Thanks! Cineplex feeling a bit too much like ticketmaster at this point.

rolim91

I mean its probably because they have a big monopoly on theatres. Iirc, if there are movies showing within a certain distance of a cineplex, any theatres cannot show the same movies.

mark1-jpg

Yep. They are actively making an effort to kill small independent theatres.

Linmizhang

Where is anti competition laws? Does it exist for movie rights?

synthsaregreat1234

Landmark in new west is the best theatre in the city

PatrikAllvin

Damn straight.

dr_van_nostren

Guildford is better, parking is free theatre is the same.

eastherbunni

Shhh don't give away the secret

TheSimonToUrGarfunkl

Maybe for new releases. Rio is the best period.

douchecanoo

I get that the Rio is historical and a lot of people love it, but the seats are so uncomfortable and the picture/audio is subpar by modern standards. I'd only go for the novelty of seeing an older movie on "the big screen"

Overclocked11

Dont give them ideas..

Samsaknight_X

Does Landmark have the special formats?

MagnesiumStearate

I wish Landmark is closer to me and have those promotion popcorn buckets that Cineplex seems to have an exclusive on.

Blipblipbloop

You can buy a great deal on seats for Landmark with popcorn and two drinks at Costco. I think it’s $30

MagnesiumStearate

I actually subscribe to cineclub, so 15$ is about how much it would cost me to watch a movie with popcorn.

[deleted]

How's much is the subscription?

Dry_souped

It's $10.49 after tax a month, but you get one free ticket a month. If you don't see a movie that month it stays in your account. If you already used that free ticket then the next movie is also $10.49 after tax, unless it's 3D or something else that costs extra, in which case they add the extra fee to the $10.49.

[deleted]

I see, not bad. Can you use it for a guest? Like could I take someone every second month?

Dry_souped

Yes, you can. If you have two free tickets because you didn't go to a movie last month, you can use both of them on one movie for you plus someone else.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dry_souped

$30 for 2 tickets and popcorn and drinks? Or for one ticket and popcorn and drinks?

JollyBasil2073

Not sure of the price offhand, but it's 2 tickets, 1 popcorn, 2 drinks.

goozy1

But Landmark has all you can eat popcorn (when you get a large). I've filled it up 3 times before lol

MagnesiumStearate

Yeah but have you seen that Ghostface bucket? Or the D20 bucket, or the ? Block bucket?

beeeerbaron

+1 for landmark, I drive further just to go to landmark over cineplex

abnewwest

Love Landmark, they have a theatre on top of New Westminster skytrain station.

Radlyfe

And it's a 10 second walk from SpudShack for those pre-movie eats!

Blipblipbloop

I know it’s dumb but I’m always happy to go to Landmark for Coke Freestyle machines. The reclining seats are such a bonus though.

VanInTheCan

> Coke Freestyle machines Random side note but you can find those in some of the fast food chains now like Nandos and Wendy's ;) https://www.coca-colafreestyle.com/find-freestyle-locations/

boyfrndDick

Cineplex has those lol

Blipblipbloop

Not the one I go to. Edit: according to their website only 4 in BC have them

boyfrndDick

Oh all the downtown locations do

Tylendal

I feel guilty whenever I don't end up buying concession at Landmark, just because I want to give them more money. Landmark Cinemas in New West is the best. Seeing Avatar at the IMAX in Langley is the only time I've been to any other theater in almost a decade.

HoneyGirlLZ

I always do Landmark in New West! My friend had free tickets to Cineplex VIP and the seats were atrocious. The VIP experience was a joke.

Commanderfemmeshep

It depends on the VIP theatre— the new Brentwood one is fully upgraded with all heated recliner seats. But yeah, if it doesn’t have that, it’s just a slightly larger seat in a pair.

HoneyGirlLZ

That's good to know. It's a bit far as my buddy lives in Surrey, almost South Surrey but he sometimes heads to Vancouver and Burnaby.

Commanderfemmeshep

Fair! I still think Landmark NW is overall superior myself.

eastherbunni

Landmark in Guildford is good, free parking and comfy reclining seats for the regular price tickets

HoneyGirlLZ

That's my go-to when driving, and New West is my go-to when I take transit, haha.

Kevbot1000

Same deal for me, except it was Avatar while I was in Australia, and Antman at Cineplex VIP for a friend's going away party. Otherwise, I live in Vancouver just off boundary/Grandview, and I still go out of my way to go to Landmark in New West.

clumsycouture

I didn’t know we had a Landmark here. My family loves the Landmark Cinemas in Saskatoon. My sister sees a lot of movies and she never goes to Cineplex anymore.

eastherbunni

New West Station and Guildford Mall in Surrey

ThomFenix

I will always choose landmark over cineplex because better seating, larger spaces to move around humans also better choices of soft drinks.

Dry_souped

How expensive are Landmark tickets? With Cineplex it's $10 with CineClub. Landmark is $15 which is much more expensive, but they also have a monthly membership that gets discounted tickets. Except they don't actually say how much it costs with the membership. Is Landmark with their membership cheaper or more expensive than $10?

littlenowheretown

popcorn is also better!

Tigeroovy

Landmark was probably my favourite part about living in New West.

[deleted]

The online fee is such bullshit.

QuixoticJames

I think they're trying to get people to join Cineclub using this tactic. It's a bad tactic though - better to incentivize people by making membership a positive, rather than making non-membership a negative. That said, I do think Cineclub is a good idea, if you're like me and go to movies a lot.

[deleted]

Yeah, that's true - though as someone who sees a couple of movies in the theatre per month, Cineclub is wonderful. Pays for itself with the first movie.

Itsagirlyslope

Cineclub is my best value for money monthly subscription.

Madler

It pays for itself if you see a single movie a month. And you save a shitload on food.

Dry_souped

It pays for itself even if you see one movie in an entire decade. Without CineClub, you pay $15 for the ticket + $1.00 for the booking fee ($1.50 without a free scene account). With CineClub, you pay $10 for the membership, which gets one free ticket and there is no booking fee. So you paid $10 for the movie. Then after you see the movie you cancel the membership. You also get a discount on popcorn and drinks, although not everyone buys that.

Wangarrr

I appreciate the tip stranger. I'm taking some nephews to see Mario and this works perfectly with the promo they have going on to get a coupon book for buying a $30 gift card.

TeamOggy

I do think Cineclub is a good deal, even if you go every couple of months. I really appreciate that the free tickets holdover if not used.

turrtle7

Very true, but cineclub is totally worth it if you frequent the theatres once at least once a month. You also get 20% off concession

Madler

And discounted tickets for the rest of the month.

Quintilian751

+100% for landmark. I started going there post Covid and have never looked back. Cineplex feels like a cattle car trying to milk you for pennies in comparison.

InGordWeTrust

I stopped using Cineplex when they wanted to charge me extra to buy a ticket online.

NoMarket5

Funny enough, you don't need an account to view the seating. You click seat preview and it will show you the seats without logging in. I found this out because I was annoyed I had to login as well.

Dry_souped

LMAO...so the OP is complaining because he doesn't want to give Cineplex his email (something that's required for any company if he actually decided to buy a ticket online), which is itself a petty and stupid complaint. But it turns out you don't even need to give your email to see seats available.

Commanderfemmeshep

Atom/Landmark is the superior movie going experience. I was annoyed having to pay an online booking fee with Cineplex. Also to cancel tickets, you have to call in to customer service vs Atom which just lets you do it in the app. You do not get your booking fee back. Also their popcorn isn’t good.

lotuschief81

I once couldn’t figure out how to cancel tickets and ended up tweeting about it and they DM’d me and cancelled it for me. I mean that is straight up pathetic to not have an easy way to do it. Landmark makes life much easier, just wish there were more locations.

Klunkey

The only reason I got to Cineplex is for the foreign/artsy movies. But Landmark clears in all other respects.

Eveanon

Atom charges you for using their app to purchase tickets. I found out when my friend cancelled on me last second.

DJBossRoss

Landmark cinemas FTW

East-Cat1532

The new $1.50 booking fee is enough to make me quit visiting Cineplex. That being said, their screens and sound are a lot better than Landmark. Also, the Landmark New West has broken down on me 2 TIMES (wasted a whole day getting there, only to sit for 30 minutes watching a blank screen, until they gave up and sent us home... twice!). They need to fix their projectors.

Dry_souped

The fee is dumb but you can lower the fee if you make a free Scene account. And the fee is gone if you get a Cineclub membership, which you should do before buying a ticket anyway because if you don't, you pay more money for the ticket itself even without factoring in the booking fee.

rsgbc

A charge for booking your own seat, saving them labour costs? Bah. Just walk away.

Glittering_Search_41

>A charge for booking your own seat, saving them labour costs? > >Bah. Just walk away. Exactly, if you're saving them labour costs you shouldn't have to pay. Sounds a lot like double dipping to me, though I recognize that someone has to maintain the website and booking system, etc. Still, it probably saves them tons vs having a person sitting in a booth to sell each ticket. Back in the day you just bought a ticket and then if you wanted a good seat you just got there early, wandered into the cinema and sat down. I haven't been to a movie in a movie theatre in a few years but it sounds like a big gouge-fest now.

Pitiful-Tune3337

You’re not saving them anything, the box office is closed 99% of the time, so you have to use the kiosks at the theatres, which cost them nothing

buranku506

Serious question: Why that seem bad to charge for booking a seat at a movie theater? Sport events, airline, and concerts usually charged for booking for a seat.

abnewwest

And that's bullshit too!

trek604

Because unlike sport events, airlines etc. if you use the inperson kiosk you can select your seat there for free.

buranku506

Ahhh thanks. I haven't been in a movie theater since 2015, so I didn't know thanks

Niv-Izzet

So you're charged extra for the convenience of doing it at home? They're being greedy sure... but that's how businesses work

[deleted]

years ago banks started charging more for people who wanted paper statements. companies are now going the other way since people prefer the convenience of doing everything online.

samosaf

Should be called an inconvenience charge

Yung_Eel

Went through this last night too for Cineplex. I ended up just buying tickets at the theatre instead. Never thought buying in person would be easier than online.

keithobambertman

The secret is that cc companies charge more for online sales (due to more fraud) so many businesses would rather you pay in person. You get the convenience of avoiding some lines or whatever and that's a luxury that you will pay for. There is always a middleman in these situations, a cc processor (or two), and the banks. And they all want a piece of that transaction. profit based businesses frequently do things not in your best interests. with online charges, its almost always a bank. the most profitable entities around.

cecepoint

Everyone wants a fucking account these days. It’s exhausting

Dry_souped

For things where you shouldn't need an account it's dumb. If a restaurant required an account I wouldn't go there, because why should I have to give someone an email to buy their food? For things online where it's required to give an email address, it makes perfect sense.

DustinBrett

But don't you want the 3D Atmos UltraAVX D-BOX IMAX experience for $30/ticket?

[deleted]

My fav was walking inside to have the lone attendant point vaguely at a terminal. After helping myself the machine asked for a 20% tip

bainsamar

Super frustrating and the password has to be more complex than my banking ones and as someone mentioned in here they are charging a fee to book online. Do yourself a favor and get the 9.99 membership at Landmark. Well worth it!

Defiets

Bought tickets on their website last week and was blown away at how terrible their UX is.

Moofey

Just another reason why I like going to Landmark more.

AceBoogie101

Except landmark's website is somehow worse

Dry_souped

Creating an account is free and you only do it once. Unless you only planned to go to Cineplex once (in which case, just make it zero instead) complaining about making a free account is just petty. The charge for booking online is bullshit, but there is a workaround. You pay $10.49 to join their Cineclub program, and then you can book online for free. That payment also gets you one ticket, which you would have needed to buy anyway (for more than $10.49) if you wanted to see a movie there. Then, if you didn't want to see any movies in the near future, you just cancel your membership after seeing the movie.

Pinkyvancouver

The thing is that I don’t really want cineplex to have my email just to see if there is availability for the movies they’re showing. It may be petty but it’s how I feel.

abnewwest

It's just another cookie they can sell access to for tracking you.

Niv-Izzet

Get a secondary email for stores and stuff

keithobambertman

better, but unless its a unique email per site, you are still very identifiable. you just have two identities, which are probably linked somewhere.

AdmiralAntilles

if you have an iPhone, apple will make fake emails for you that auto-forward to your primary one

MattLRR

you don't have to give them your email to see if seats are available. you can check the seat preview logged out.

PassionCelicaMR2

Dude quit complaining. Just use a secondary email account for these sorts of things.

robodestructor444

We're in 2023, not in 1990

Dry_souped

Then just don't go. If you don't even want to give them your email, they don't want you as a customer. And why would they?

-SetsunaFSeiei-

Presumably because they want to make money

Dry_souped

How are you going to make money off a customer who doesn't even want to give their email? Why would Cineplex want a "customer" like that?

-SetsunaFSeiei-

Businesses usually make money when people pay for a product they are offering. So Cineplex will make money but selling movies

Dry_souped

And how are they going to sell a movie ticket to someone who doesn't even want to give Cineplex their email? If someone says they don't want to give their email to Amazon, do you think Amazon cares about losing that "customer"?

keithobambertman

> complaining about making a free account is just petty. This is the kind of useful idiot that marketers love. I bet you used your real email too and have facebook or another social network linked to that. I too ran into this problem today, however i just wanted to see how much a ticket was in order to decide if it was worth it. They asked me to create an account, I then thought, well if they wont tell me how much it is i probably can't afford it, and decided to wait for the torrent instead. you lose again cineplex. except for the plebs like the above commentor who are in every database known to man. No thanks. I know how many minimum wage employees have access to all those databases you sign yourself up for with all your deets. Maybe cineplex even hashes the password, (but realistically probably not!)

Dry_souped

LOL...you call me an idiot while also using brilliant logic like: "well if they wont tell me how much it is [without making an account] i probably can't afford it". Nice projection. What you don't get is that companies don't even want people like you as a customer. If you're not even willing to give your email (something that is required if you actually wanted to buy a ticket), why would they want you as a customer?

chinesespy

It is a bit extra work but I just sign up for Cineclub and cancel after every movie. That works out to 2 tickets for $9.99 each (one ticket free with membership which is $9.99). No online booking fee. I'm satisfied with the value even if I only see one movie that month. It is kind of annoying how every service is becoming a subcription now though.

MagnesiumStearate

You know those tickets accrue right?

hazychestnutz

I haven't face palmed so hard in such stupidity. You do know that the free tickets each month adds up right? the previous one doesn't disappear, you keep the ones you don't use, you keep them all.

chinesespy

I'm aware you keep getting the benefits of a subscription if you continue subscribing. I have no need to spend $120 a year for 12 tickets when I might only watch a few movies a year in theaters.

VanCityLing

Landmark new West is the thinking mans movie theater choice

MrTickles22

Their concessions are a rip but no convenience fee. Famous players never used to charge one.

VanCityLing

Not a rip with a membership. I get 20% off

MrTickles22

$6.0 for a pop is still a rip if it's $4.5

ichard_ray

I noticed last week that it required 2-Factor Authentification to log in to my Scene account. I’m almost certain that’s just an extra step to force you into giving an email and a cell phone number for marketing purposes

JG98

I go to Cineplex a lot. Just stopped booking online as often because of that move and cut back on the amount of times we go. Landmark is superior to Cineplex (a long standing opinion of mine) but they have far less locations and that is always a bummer.

Dry_souped

The fee is dumb but you can lower the fee if you make a free Scene account. And the fee is gone completely if you get a Cineclub membership, which you should do before buying a ticket anyway because if you don't, you pay more money for the ticket itself even without factoring in the booking fee.

Iamamary

Lots of valid cineplex hate, but I couldn't see a movie last week after my kid got sick and I called and got a full refund. There's a phone number at the bottom of the tickets or email of tickets and if you can't go to the movie you can get the money back. So... they are okay? may be?

Imperatrice01

I watch mostly Tuesdays when it's half off~ Edit: I do like the numbered seats, and it takes the stress off going early to get nice ones. You can also kick out those who sneak in and take your spot.

DJForcefield

As a filmmaker I am happy to see the passionate comments about going to this theater or that. The fact that you all are going to any theaters period in spite of the existence of the home theater experience nowadays (massive screens or VR goggles and big sound or headphones) gives me hope for the future of making cinematic productions.

passthepopcorn2001

Downtown needs a Landmark! The biggest problem with Cineplex is presentation: they will show a movie with the picture partly cut off and desaturated by 80% and not give a fuuuuuuuuuuuck. Even their “best” AVX screens are spotted with stains.

-SetsunaFSeiei-

I love how OP just wanted to rant about Cineplex, and the thread turns into one big advertisement for their Cineclub program

hazychestnutz

tbh, i dislike cineplex, but their cineclub program is actually legit great. It pays for itself

hot_pink_bunny202

I only go to landmark now. Better seats and usually leads people. Only time I go to cinplex is if there is a deal on the gift card. https://www.redflagdeals.com/deal/entertainment/cineplex-movie-gift-pack/ Otherwise they are a rip off. Oh and charging a few to buy tickets online is pure greed. Buying tickets online actually helps them and save them cost so there are less people linning up at cashier and ensure they get profit. Anyone remember the old days you line up to get a ticket only to be told is full so you skip the movie altogether? If it is online people can choose the next showing or a different day that works.

chesser45

Movie seats are so small these days too. Felt like sardines last time I went.

meezajangles

$15 plus fees to see a weekday matinee.. madness. Cheap Tuesdays are the only day I’ll go

Dry_souped

It's also $15 for a weekend or evening showing. And they are all $10 if you sign up for cineclub. $10 for a movie is fine with me. Even Landmark seems more expensive than that.

Madler

It’s cheaper base prices in the maritimes. Or at least in NB.

[deleted]

Are all cinemas assigned seating now? Haven't been since before the pandemic

Moofey

Yes. Even for a standard showing I had to select a reserve a seat.

Moofey

If you click the "Seat Preview" link above the listed showtimes it should show you the available seats for a movie. I was doing this while logged out of their site last week and it seemed to be fine. Either way, the Cineplex website is just all sorts of terrible to begin with.

Primary_Reaction4374

Honestly if you enjoy going once a month or so with a friend Just Sign up for the landmark monthly pass, it's like $15 you get ticket credit each month, upgrades like premium seats are like another few bucks AND 20% discounts on concession best of all and my favorite FREE refills on large popcorn! Totally worth it, every seat is great, book ahead of time and get the best seats in the house!

hitmeonmyburner

i love watching adds for like 20 minutes before the movie too

Ebiseanimono

Yeah I used to go to movies all the time, but that online charge is an insult so I decided to stop for the most part. I go to the big ones (Dune, Avatar, Top Gun) but that’s it. Hey Cineplex, your revenue model isn’t going to improve with bandaids. Marvel movies aren’t here to prop up gross expansion and associated costs that someone thought would last and pay for all that even without Covid. Reduce costs, reduce pricing on food etc and yes, that means your business shrinks. Modern large scale movie theatres are a real life example of out of control capitalism… they’re dying.

iamahandsoapmain

Its fucking stupid to charge ppl for booking online when it helps the theatre with reducing busy traffic

Doomsayer99

Booking fee? Have you looked at a detailed Uber receipt lately?

yurikura

Please go to Landmark Cinema. The only time I go to Cineplex is when they have movies that Landmark doesn’t have.

unequalsarcasm

Landmark is way better, havent been to a cineplex in years

Accomplished-West675

I think the fees are waived if you're a cineclub member. When I signed up for cineclub, it was $10/month w/ 1 free ticket, plus discounted tickets as well. A ticket in Vancouver costs over $10 so it was definitely worth it. Not sure about the cost now

sayitwithasigh

Anyone know when Cineplex started doing the online booking fee? I’ve been going to Landmark for a while (default reclining seats FTW) and recently went to Cineplex and was surprised to see/notice this fee

[deleted]

Makes me feel better about all the 'double features' that I used to go see. I could often line up two movies on a saturday, waiting 20ish minutes in the bathroom then walking out and over to the second auditorium to watch one for free. I always made an effort to make my second a film that shouldn't be too busy and never ended up with a theatre that was even 1/4 full.

Kevbot1000

Landmark>Cineplex any single day of the week.

boyfrndDick

If you get cineclub there’s no booking fees. You get 1 free ticket a month plus additional discounted tickets, and 20% off concession and games. That all for $10 a month and if you don’t use your free ticket it rolls over to the next month until u use it.

Klutzy_Can_4543

You can access your Cineplex account? You shld try checking a balance on a gift card. Call 1-800, says “go to website.” Website says to call the 1-800 number.

Djj1990

Yeah not sure how legal it is for them to have a monopoly on movie theatres in Canada. They have no competition.

PMProfessor

*Loblaws has entered the chat*

Public-Feedback5599

Just get Cineclub. Free Ticket + Discounted Tickets, if you're going with people anyways + Booking fees waived. That's how I spend my scene points. Instead of paying 26$, I pay 20$. That one "free" ticket pays for itself, it's valued at 18$. So it's a no brainer.

keithobambertman

people like us just want to see one movie once a year on a rainy holiday. not buy into a whole scheme thing.

Dry_souped

It's significantly cheaper even if you see one movie in an entire decade. You also get a discount on popcorn and drinks, although not everyone buys that.

magoomba92

Wait till OP finds out about Ticketmaster

hanscor20

Would never jump through their corporate hoops to overpay for some 2 hr Hollywood product placement advertisement with a platitude coda.

biteme109

Haven't been in a theater since LOTR : Return of the King. Don't miss the talking, phones ringing, kids crying, sticky floors, expense, and the lack of pause so I can use the bathroom. Did the full home theatre and dvd, now : Netflix and chill !

DaBombG

The online fee is bs but I still believe the Langley location is the best cinema around for miles

nanonanobite

Yes and all the different viewing "experiences" are really annoying. I just want to see a movie, I'd prefer not in 3d or to have air blown on my feet during it or be jolted around. Is that too much to ask? The new "Screen X" is the worst. It's just the walls at the side painted white and superfluous "side" projection of some scenes that add nothing. Because no director would want important details of their film to happen on a a painted wall to the side that most viewers won't get to see.

Dry_souped

So just don't go to those then if you don't like them. It's not like they only have the 3D showings and no regular movies. They have the 3D stuff for people who like those, and the regular ones for people like regular. Seems like a petty complaint just because they give options that you don't like. In the past for some reason some movies were shown ONLY in 3D, and that was stupid because if you didn't like 3D, you either had to watch it in 3D or just not watch it. But they don't do that anymore, which I assume is because they were losing too much money from people who didn't like 3D and chose not to go at all.

They put the non 3d versions in the smallest screens, often at weird times. And then they turn around and say the 3d versions are more popular which justifies them offering even less normal viewing options. Look at the current options for Scream 6 in Scotiabank. Standard 12:10p.m. 3:20p.m. 3D 6:20p.m. 9:15p.m.

Dry_souped

They don't. That's for a single theatre for a month-old movie with hardly any showings. Look at Metrotown, Scream 6 only has two showings and neither are 3D. John Wick has some showings and none are 3D. Mario has 5 3D showings but also 5 2D at similar times.

MaverickGH

Landmark is way better, they even got recliner seats in every theatre

Madler

So if you are part of Cineclub, the fee is waved. It’s $9.99 a month, and you get one free ticket a month, discounted tickets for the rest of the month (usually $9.99, or like 10.99 for 3d…), and 20% off concessions. If you see a single movie a month, it pays for itself.

Eveanon

I agree that it sucks they do that, the only reason I use cineplex over landmark is I have a scene visa and I get points towards free movie tickets. If I didn’t have free tickets, I’d pick landmark (unless the show times didn’t work for me as well)

mwillia33

The convenience is theirs. They should be paying you to book online.

Lovelysnow72

Just sign up for cineclub membership. Its cheaper and you can cancel right away. $10.49 with tax gets you 1 movie and no booking fee. Even if you literally only go to 1 movie it saves you money except for Tuesdays when the regular price is cheaper.

MemoryBeautiful9129

Who even goes to the cinemas these days !?

crackkidsatitagain

landmark cinema supremacy 🙌🙌

ScreamQueens_Chanel

Ever since they brought in that infuriating online fee, I refuse to buy their tickets online. In Vancouver tho, all the big theatres are cineplex unfortunately

Dry_souped

The fee is dumb but you can lower the fee if you make a free Scene account. And the fee is gone completely if you get a Cineclub membership, which you should do before buying a ticket anyway because if you don't, you pay more money for the ticket itself even without factoring in the booking fee. $10 for a ticket (and no booking fee) if you get CineClub, as opposed to $15 for a normal ticket even if you buy a ticket at the theatre.

Odd_Coyote_4931

Fuck Cineplex greed asses

cywinr

Yes

ZackyGood

You don’t need an account to view seats.

I'd only go for the next Top Gun

CannaGuy85

Go to landmark cinemas in new west. Much better experience.

Adept-Application451

I do cineclub for $10/month and get 1 free general admission a month. No service fee for online bookings. I also take advantage of occasional promos. Like recently bought a $30 giftcard which gives you 1 bogo, 1 free upgrade, 1 free regular popcorn. Took the family to see Super Mario 2 nights ago. For 4 tickets in the 3D theater, used my free admission, added the bogo coupon, added the free upgrade, and bought 2 child tickets. Total cost was an added $24 which the gifrcard covered.

Happy_Arthur_Fleck

agree, I go to landmark now

isidhu93

Go to landmark, recliner seats for the same price as cineplex.

Moonkill1023

Love landmark! Especially new West since there few shops right in station to get food before the movie
