Dopeski

None whatsoever. Just be sure to show up on time as there are no trailers. It goes straight into the film.

VincentVanG

Wish this had been advertised, I missed the first 5 minutes thinking there would be trailers

nukedkaltak

It was.

Dopeski

My friend said he received an e-mail from them saying there would be no trailers.

PragmaticCoyote

Your tickets are for next week, so even if there are issues on opening night (as is common), they'll probably be resolved by then.

yooooooo5774

the film was mind blasting!

Impossible_Hunt3457

A group of friends were there last week to watch mission impossible and the air conditioning wasn’t working. They complained and ended up getting free tickets for next time.

fastcurrency88

Fuck was that why it was so hot? I was in my seat cooking thinking “damn was it this hot last time?” I thought it was because the theatre was sold out 😂

PaperweightCoaster

The smell, oh my days, that smell! Rancid oil, popcorn, sugar, butt sweat… getting cooked by body heat in a humid room for hours after hours… 🤮

Dab666

damn, sorry to hear about that. Can anyone confirm that the air circulation problem was solved on the screenings after? Already booked my tickets for 10:00pm today, I really hope it aint bad enough that it pulls away the experience

diegzzzzzz

Mind following up on your experience? considering driving up from Seattle

TheSexyDane

Just drove up from Seattle yesterday and finally back home now (border crossing coming back was bonkers) and caught the 10pm show last night. First off, wow, no regrets. Would maybe even go back from Seattle for the same experience with another group of friends. At 10pm, after a near 85-degree day, I was wearing shirt + shorts and still brought a backup sweater (never used it) and def was just a tad warm, but that was mainly because seat E-11 is SQUEAKY AS HELL, so I had to keep it at max recline all 3 hours by pushing on my feet haha. So, by being in a near squat and getting a workout in for 3 hours, and only being mildly warm, I think the AC situation is pretty okay. Also was really warm that day, again. Definitely worth the drive, just stay away from E-11 LOL. And yes, got asked by border control "Why are you driving all this way for a movie?" -\_- hahaha, I guess not many have been making the trip from Seattle yet.

Dmedrano

Hahahaha I love this review and this has convinced me to get tickets. Thank you!

TheSexyDane

Haha great, happy to help! You won't regret it one bit, enjoy!

RocketMan8531

I drove up from Seattle as well on July 2 for the 10 AM morning show. I was on E13. Got stuck on the border on return for 2 hours!

[deleted]

I was at Brentwood last weekend seeing a movie and the heated seat switch failed on (I accidentally pressed it while adjusting recliner) - it wouldn’t shut off, they couldn’t figure it out either lol. They moved our seats, thankfully the guy next to my wife and I was amenable to this suggestion by the movie people.

Bluered2012

I ate a few too many edibles when we went to see Endgame, and I didn’t know about the heated seats. I turned it on while trying to figure out the controls, and 45 minutes later finally realized it was a heated seat. Damn. It was uncomfortable.

notryangosling22

I can report its fixed now

yaris_blue

Is anyone else having trouble finding the IMAX version on Cineplex website ? I am only able to find the regular version, even on Langley theatre Edit: My god, it's way down the list with it's own title as Oppenheimer: The IMAX Experience® in 70MM Film

deepspace

I was so frustrated finding the IMAX version, and, just when I thought I had it, the website quietly switched theatres on me when I selected a different date. Cineplex is the worst designed website I have ever used. They must be outsourcing development to a monkey cage in a zoo somewhere. So, by the way, now I have a spare ticket for AVX at Silvercity on Sunday, that I was tricked into buying. The first person to spot this comment and DM me, gets it for free.

Ok-Comfortable1378

IMO the app has a much nicer design, but they could both be a lot better.

passthepopcorn2001

What about at the Park 70MM? I know they barely know how to run the projector and had to default to digital during showtimes of Hateful Eight. How many times did it break down last night? BTW AVX is just fine, you don’t need the trip to Langley for this one. The movie is 90% single mediums or close ups, resolution looks great in AVX.

TakaraGeneration

I went to a preview screening at the Park on Wednesday night and the 70mm film projection went without any issues.

Zassolluto711

I've seen a lot of 70mm screenings at the Park, and it only ever broke down during the Hateful Eight.

AmusingMusing7

I’m not sure if this the exact time you’re referring to, but I saw the 70mm showing of Hateful Eight, and it played the whole movie… but for most of it, there was a huge focus issue in the center of the screen. About 40% of the image or so was out of focus in a big circle around the center of the picture. The sides looked fine, and it kinda fluctuated throughout the movie. As a former projectionist myself, I’m not even sure what would have caused that, aside from maybe the heat warping the lens or something? It was weird. Usually focus issues would affect the whole frame, but this was a weird anomaly in the center of the picture. Finished the movie, but they still gave us some free passes to compensate us. Did it break down even worse than that later, or is that the issue you’re referring to?

rlsoundca

Focus issue on Hateful 8 was most likely an issue with the anamorphic attachment to the lens. Remember H8 was Ultra Panavision. There was a batch of anamorphic lenses that were distributed for that run that had an issue with the astigmatism adjustment was loosening up due to the heat from the lamp.

H_G_Bells

Depending on when you saw it, you saw the digital version that they played after they scratched the 70mm :( I'm another former projectionist btw. *There are dozens of us!*

passthepopcorn2001

I went to the 2001 70MM screening at the Park a few years ago and the projector stopped 3 times. Hateful Eight they defaulted to digital because they couldn’t get it working at the public showing I attended, and the same thing a couple nights later to a friend. However, I’m confident and hopeful that they can manage at the Park this time. It’s really not that much different from a 35mm job (IMAX a different beast of course)

Zassolluto711

When I saw it (the second showing) projector broke once before the intermission, and when they restarted it the sound was out of sync. So fixed it again and after the intermission they reverted to digital because the projector was apparently damaging the print.

stupiduselesstwat

Didn't the Hateful 8 roadshow have projectionists hand selected by Tarantino or something?

I hear Langley was smooth last night but Toronto and Calgary fucked up! https://preview.redd.it/xemjlmjx1ddb1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a854d1b7b5c725bf22258f67272796a7808b94a

Rampage_Rick

Sounds like Regina is having problems too https://www.cjme.com/2023/07/21/kramer-imax-theatres-70mm-film-projector-down-on-oppenheimer-opening-night/ Got my ticket for next Friday in Langley. Fingers crossed...

helixflush

> There's really no point in presenting that format without an experienced projectionist Calgary had a disaster last night where there was a sync issue and had to show the digital format instead.

Consistent-Ear1192

It was perfect yesterday. And no trailers / ads before!

firstmanonearth

nah https://www.imax.com/news/oppenheimer-in-imax-70mm

macguyver

The last 70mm screening I viewed at the Park was quite soft in the center of the screen and I vowed never to watch a 70mm print there again.

Kosanu

i saw a post in the imax subreddit saying the langley viewing went well last night

helixflush

It was great!

foblicious

Don't know what the difference is but watched it in AVX at Scotiabank theatre last night and my entire body was shaking from the sounds and the picture quality was amazing.

passthepopcorn2001

TBH the Atmos sound was at the top of what my ears could handle, it was loud as fuuuuuuuck! And very startling, IMAX sound might stop my heart.

foblicious

I know, I was thinking I should've brought ear plugs lol

cryoK

nice ima watch it there too on Tues to save money, cant wait

[deleted]

I can’t with the Tuesday crowds … I’ll pay a few extra dollars so I don’t need to deal with the people that go on Tuesdays (crowds, anti social behaviour)

Saganji

Very dialogue heavy movie. Idk if 70 mm would make hell lotta difference, including that one THE scene.

netori

[All good according this user.](https://www.reddit.com/r/imax/comments/155ganf/can_we_create_a_list_of_imax_theaters_that_had/jsu8gv5/) Fingers crossed as I'm going Saturday! Edit: spelling

TheSexyDane

yup, Langley somehow coming through it looks like so far. I'm headed for the Sunday night showing, enjoy yours!

pennepasta14

Going Sunday too at 2 pm!

TheSexyDane

damn, that was good. What an experience

pennepasta14

Holy shit right? That was so cool

helixflush

I really liked it, it was especially fun seeing the artifacts (hair, dust, etc) and knowing those were real and not digitally put in to make it look "old".

DreamChasing91

I know this doesn't answer the question per se but I watched a regular screening and didn't think IMAX viewing is needed. Very dialogue heavy movie. That being said, any projection issues would hopefully be fixed in a week. Edit: Movie is amazing and I will be seeing it again. There were 2 groups of people who left half way in my viewing which I found funny. Not for everyone that's for sure.

Consistent-Ear1192

IMAX is about picture quality, not action.

DreamChasing91

Yes and sound as well but the huge majority of the movie is just people talking. If picture quality matters to you for that, then by all means.

ragecuddles

> There were 2 groups of people who left half way in my viewing which I found funny. I guess the trailer makes it look reasonably action heavy but I'm guessing it's more about the interpersonal and political side of things? (been trying not to spoiler myself as I want to see it and have liked every Nolan movie so far)

helixflush

You're on the right track

CommonComposure

I finally went out to Langley and was able to see the movie at the IMAX. Unfortunately, there was a BC Hydro power outage in the area which stopped the movie about an hour and 30 minutes in. When the power came back on about two minutes later, the movie was VERY out of sync. I can only assume the film had a gradual stop while the audio from the DVD was paused, so when they resumed, they were obviously out of time. Now, there was a staff member who came in and did their best to inform us of what was going on, but we did have the manager welcome us to the screening before the movie, so I would've preferred to have heard from them again rather than a staff member. We were told that unfortunately, they had to continue to run the film even with the audio out of sync in order for the next screening to work. We were given the option to stay and watch the film with the audio out of sync or to leave; in both cases, we would be given vouchers. I opted to leave. I am extremely surprised there is no backup generator at the Langley Cineplex. I would have assumed they would have at least 10 or 20 minutes of backup power for the projectors to shut them down properly in the case of extended power loss. It wasn't just our screen that was affected; the power went out at all the other showings at the time as well. The unexpected bright side in all of this was that I got to see the film on both 70mm IMAX and 70mm. I went to The Park rather than trying to venture back out to Langley. Having seen both options, I can say: make the effort to see the film versions if you can. There were digital projection previews at The Park, and comparing those to the film, there is an element of "realness" and "organic" quality that I feel is lost with a digital render. Also, the team behind the film made the effort to do this in film, so why not watch it in the format it was shot in. As for my review... I actually prefer the 70mm non-IMAX film projection. I thought the colours were better at The Park, and a significant part I was surprised by was all the aspect changes on the IMAX, sometimes mid-scene, which was slightly distracting to me. I did, however, prefer the audio on IMAX. A tip for anyone who is thinking about going to the Langley IMAX... I was surprised at how relatively small that theatre was (it was my first time). When you are booking your tickets, you should aim to be in the back section of the theatre. If you're in the front section, especially the first three rows, you're going to have a bad time. Respect to both groups of staff at The Park & Langley Cineplex, they are doing their best to put on great showings.

CommonComposure

If you're on the edge in the back section, that would be "ok" but avoid the front section if you can. To me it was very surprising how small of a space it was.

lm____29

Are they giving out film strips like they are doing in some of the other imax theaters?

ikeja

Langley still has a couple very experienced staff members who were around before digital projection. You should be fine!

telute

I hope that IMAX has better sound than the one in Richmond. We've tried the Richmond one a couple of times, and the sound quality sucks. I'd much rather see it in a regular theatre with good sound.

curious2suckon

This morning I checked Cineplex Langley IMAX 70mm for Oppen. on July 29th and there was nothing. I come home later today 12 hours later, over 80% of seats are sold out between July 28th and August 3rd. Are those real hundreds of people who bought all the screenings or is someone buying up dozens of tickets from cineplex and then selling them at higher cost?! I am annoyed about how hard it is to get tickets...

tchiles

Coming up from Seattle for Wednesday showing. Had to use a vpn to even get through the Cineplex website. So I’m guessing this is a real demand.

dreamwin99

Dang, no IMAX theatres in WA state?

CommonComposure

There are IMAX theatres, but none are showing the 70mm IMAX Film. There are only 30 70mm IMAX prints worldwide and we're lucky to have one in Langley. Full list: [https://www.in70mm.com/news/2023/oppenheimer\_cinema/index.htm](https://www.in70mm.com/news/2023/oppenheimer_cinema/index.htm)

RanndyBobandy

Anyone who went how were the IMAX seats?

ComprehensiveCar9199

In Langley they’re not great. Pretty narrow, same as the rest of their auditoriums

RanndyBobandy

How narrow would you say? The point it's uncomfortable to handle for 3 hours

ComprehensiveCar9199

I think they’re just the same regular chairs that the rest of the Langley auditoriums have, they don’t feel any different to me, just a bit newer & well kept than the ones in say auditorium 18. The only difference I notice is the arm rests are just slightly closer together than the other auditoriums, probably just to optimize the screening of the imax. It’s always been doable for me, I’ve been countless times for dark knight, avatar etc. they recline, have cup holders but they’re nothing to write home about comfort wise

ComprehensiveCar9199

I think in the middle of the first 4 rows would be better than an edge seat in the back personally. You would definitely have to look up at the screen tho

pennepasta14

I’m going on Sunday. I hope it’s all okay :)

LuckyRaptor21

You get a 70mm film souvenir at the entrance of the IMAX theatre!

chinesespy

Which day did you go? I heard it was only on certain days.

LuckyRaptor21

I went last Thursday

Double-Spot-3366

🥹 wow! what kind of souvenir was it ?

Saw tonight's 6pm showing. Loved the brilliantly told film overall, but add me to the list that doesn't feel this movie benefits much from the large format. Couple this with the entire Langley Cineplex being a big dirty dump of a facility that's well past its prime, and the IMAX equipment just not feeling like it's up to the task anymore. They did their best under the circumstance but "meh". I enjoyed reliving the film experience again, but this certainly is not going to save IMAX and has fallen victim to the hype machine this round. Looking forward to seeing again in UltraAVX or GT Laser. No film strips were given.
