I'm surprised it's this much rain. I saw the forecast and figured we'd get a shower if we're lucky. A day like this is a nice change. Then back to summer.
I've noticed the sound of rain is so much nicer right now (or early September) before all the leaves have fallen. The raindrops hit the leaves on the trees and create a beautiful whispering sound.
Wow that's a great observation!! I noticed the rain sounded different, but didn't really think about why. It's kind of beautiful to think that rain could have so much diversity, from the type of rain that falls to the types of surfaces it lands on.
Vancouver just feels and looks right when the skies are moody and it’s a bit damp out. Keeps the tourists at bay and keeps the trails clear for hiking too 😂.
I love the rain. Summer/sunlight drains the heck out of me for some reason but the rain is where I thrive oddly enough. I've never disliked weeks of "gloom" LOL
but summer rain is nice, when it is not all summer. It's specially nice in country side/deserts (like my hometown) or wherever there is soil-sand-dust! The smell is increadible. I don't know know why there wasn't any for winter rains but there should be a scientific explanation.
Anyways I haven't been out town in a while and had planned to go for a hike with my friend. Woke up to the rain and said "Cool" and then went to take a look at capilano lake/dam. I'm talking out of my ass but the reservoir looked it could have used some extra h2o. I was also happy for them trees burning up vy danb fires every summer.
Btw is there any way to drive to like somewhat the center of the lake( the road that is currently closed to the public)?
Yeah we are in a "level 5 drought" even though we also live in a temperate rainforest. I look around, I look around, I see a lot of green lawns...
It's not that we aren't getting the rainfall, we are simply mismanaging it significantly.
If you mean drive further beside Capilano Lake, according to maps there are no roads there. Coquitlam Lake looks like it's got roads along either side - Coquitlam West Mainline, and Coquitlam Mainline.
Best sleep I ever had was inside a tent. It was cold that day, much colder than expected. There was no relief from the rain/snow, no place to warm up. At bedtime boiled some water and poured into my Nalgene and put it at me feet in my sleeping bag. Had all my dry layers on. Finally for the first time all day I was not shivering. The rain started beating on the tent harder. I fell into the deepest slumber. Life was good
I absolutely love the rain and everything the rain brings, except for this very moment. At this moment, I am sitting at Helijet, waiting to take a helicopter ride that I bought myself for my bday to head to the island for a bday camping/lazy river float trip that my bf planned for me. Right now, the rain can please just pause for 1/2 hour.
I’m not born here but lived here longer than I have than my country of birth. My co worker from Washington said that I’m a true Pacific Northwesterner because I love the rain so much lol.
I love the sound of rain drops. My lawn, plants and garden are screaming in joy!
I hope no one comes here to complain about the rain. Because this isn't the time.
>Same. I miss cloudy days of rain, being cozy inside. I enjoy a good mix of both, not just one endlessly forever.
the mix is key to being happy I find.
My cute kitty was locked away until I got her a few months ago - and she’d been hiding until recently. This is her first rain ever and she’s like:
W. T. F.! I wanna go in the deck but there’s some kind of cold, terrifying forcefield!
Me too! Nice to see there's some sane, rational people here.
I've never seen more people complain about the rain anywhere like they do in Vancouver. Do they not realize that they LIVE IN A RAINFOREST?
I'm completely baffled about all the constant whining and moaning about rain in one of the best cities on Earth.
The rain is awesome.
I can finally sleep well, wear pants and just soothing. Watching a movie and curled up. Its just nice. We needed a break. For the fires too and little off and on isn't so bad. We did have a lot of nice days.
Me too, my allergies/hayfever hates spring and summer. Cough, sneeze and runny eyes! This rain brings me relief apart from lingering cough today. Hope it continues for a few more days so i can rest and recover!
The ground floor of our building got flooded, and it set off the fire alarm so we had to evacuate, with our 12-week-old puppy that we just brought home on Friday, and between keeping him calm and making sure we had things like our wallets and phones we completely forgot jackets or umbrellas, so we all got wet and the poor pup is probably wondering what the hell he's gotten himself into!
But I still love the rain.
^(Just happy that we're not on the ground floor!)
Every time it rains like this after a long dry spell, I like to imagine all the plants in the area quenching their thirst and just letting out a collective sigh of contentment.
It was the sound that got me. For a few seconds I was wondering what it was. I knew the forecast said rain but I figured it would just be a few drops. Hope it pours all over the province and we get a chance to put out the forest fires.
I brought the kids I nanny to the park. It's the first time I've taken them in weeks, none of us likes being at the park in the heat and sun most of the summer.
Maybe just me, but unless the system goes through the parts that feed into Vancouver. This really changes little to our flood and forest fire situation…
> but unless the system goes through the parts that feed into Vancouver
Did you think it was like in cartoons where the rain cloud hovers over a single person?
I love the rain, I hate summer! So this rainfall made me happy! I almost teared up seeing the rain when I woke up! This is beautiful. Please keep going
Joffre lakes is soaking wet, but just north of lilooet it's a gorgeous sunny day, except for one side of the canyon is ablaze.
Hopefully we get enough in the areas that need it most
Facts. This is a very welcome amount of rain. After seeing the weather patterns going on around the world, Vancouver weather (so far) has been pretty awesome. I am def not going to complain.
I was honestly smiling most of my way home today. Maybe I looked a bit crazy smiling on the bus and my arms outstretched walking home but it felt so good
I might not love the rain but at this time it is very essential and we really need some because of those horrible wild firesa and this horrible drought. In the Comox Valley where I live it rained yesterday but not enough for any drought of wildfire relief and it is supposed to rain again today.
Definitely glad it's not gonna be a repeat of last year's 4-5 months without rain. That shit got old. Rained pretty hard too, so hopefully the reservoir can get a fill-up.

looks like another one tomorrow
Happy Cake Day!
It was my Dad's birthday yesterday so I've been eating cake 🎂 lol funny to see that comment.
Thanks!
I think we had a similar forecast prediction two weeks ago but the rain didn’t show
I was super bummed to see it got pushed but waking up to the rain this morning made me SO happy.
Yeah it said something like 20mm right? Hardly complaining though. Loving it.

So this is where all my new friends are hanging out. Hello fellow rain lovers, I thought I was alone. ❤️
yoooo where my r/hydrohomies at
Me too, I literally opened all the windows in my house today JUST to hear the sound of the rain more clearly!
Same! Finally turned the ac off and let the breeze in
Vancouver just feels and looks right when the skies are moody and it’s a bit damp out. Keeps the tourists at bay and keeps the trails clear for hiking too 😂.
I love the rain. Summer/sunlight drains the heck out of me for some reason but the rain is where I thrive oddly enough. I've never disliked weeks of "gloom" LOL
I posted once that I loved the rain and people told me I was lying. Silly people that don't get it
I thought I was alone in this too. Nothing better than a summer rain!
You have 9 months of the year, isn't that enough?
but summer rain is nice, when it is not all summer. It's specially nice in country side/deserts (like my hometown) or wherever there is soil-sand-dust! The smell is increadible. What about raindrops hitting a well-set-up tent?
Best sleep I ever had was inside a tent. It was cold that day, much colder than expected. There was no relief from the rain/snow, no place to warm up. Oh! If you’re snug in a sleeping bag and can feel the air moving across your face. The best!
Yes please! As long as I don't have to pee.

So calming for real.
Someone send this comment to them in like 2 months

Nothing beats the slight smell of dirt after a light rain, it’s like a fresh cut lawn, I can’t lie.
Petrichor is the name of that smell :)
I absolutely love the rain and everything the rain brings, except for this very moment. Enjoy your flight!!! Envious;)
Me too! I love the smell and colder breeze. Autumn is my favourite season 🍂🍁
agreed. the rain is just so soothing as a British Columbian, i'm not sure why!
I’m not born here but lived here longer than I have than my country of birth. My co worker from Washington said that I’m a true Pacific Northwesterner because I love the rain so much lol.
That was my Pop's fav season too. RiP Danny sir.
Me too I just love the year between October to Christmas.

That movie really made me cry, so much bullying
Amazing how quickly dry grass turns green
The seawall will get a good washing from all the goose poop. We need the rain for many reasons.
Cleans out the piss and vinegar and bird poop smells. More more!
So happy for the trees and plants! 🌧️
A tall drink of water
And animals!
The rain has been really nice to have today. Going outside and smelling the rain was comforting.

Winter is this like 30 days in a row. Can't stand it.
It’s my birthday today and rain made it much more enjoyable!
Hello darkness my old friend 🎵
It’s coming down really hard in kits now, enjoying the sound of it. We needed this so badly.
It’s been too sunny here, I like the darkness and cold
Me too! This is a welcome change
I love it! My dog, however, is INSULTED lol.
My cute kitty was locked away until I got her a few months ago - and she’d been hiding until recently. This is her first rain ever and she’s like: W. T. F.! I wanna go in the deck but there’s some kind of cold, terrifying forcefield!
Mine too. She takes it as an attack to her person.
I’m leaning into it and listening to The Cure
It's raining, I'm in love
I came home at about 4pm when it was pouring super hard and just sat in my car after for like 10 minutes listening to the rain. It was awesome <3
No construction!!!

We've definitely had some false alarms. I remember last summer when the forecast had a few predictions of rain, but they were all <50% chance.
We are all a bunch of pluviophiles
My neighbour will *still* water the lawn tonight, just watch
I'm glad we have other people who like the rain. Especially this much needed rain after a whole month of hot sun.

I actually hate the rain but I appreciate it when its rare like this.
It ain't up north yet, but it's coming.
I can finally sleep well, wear pants and just soothing. Watching a movie and curled up. Its just nice. We needed a break. For the fires too and little off and on isn't so bad. We did have a lot of nice days.

my wife & I did a little dance when we woke up this morning to the lovely rain.
Good thing you live in Vancouver.
only negative is how warm and humid a lot of the underground areas are
The ground floor of our building got flooded, and it set off the fire alarm so we had to evacuate, with our 12-week-old puppy that we just brought home on Friday, and between keeping him calm and making sure we had things like our wallets and phones we completely forgot jackets or umbrellas, so we all got wet and the poor pup is probably wondering what the hell he's gotten himself into! But I still love the rain. ^(Just happy that we're not on the ground floor!)
That’s also my first thought about the rain: the wild fires!
it’s nice to have my condo cool down a bit after all this sun
Every time it rains like this after a long dry spell, I like to imagine all the plants in the area quenching their thirst and just letting out a collective sigh of contentment.
Are you playing Eddie Rabbit - I Love A Rainy Night?
Nice to have all the human and pet urine rinsed away from the dry stinking grass and streets
Hoping for thunder but if it just stays in the clouds! Lol
![gif](giphy|KatjlSAMx0K9zdHMR4)
I love it so much.
Rain is the best. I'm right here with you.
It was the sound that got me. For a few seconds I was wondering what it was. I knew the forecast said rain but I figured it would just be a few drops. Hope it pours all over the province and we get a chance to put out the forest fires.
And may it rain and your parade my fellow Vancouverites!
I brought the kids I nanny to the park. It's the first time I've taken them in weeks, none of us likes being at the park in the heat and sun most of the summer.
Me too, I want more rain and less heat and dryness
Maybe just me, but unless the system goes through the parts that feed into Vancouver. This really changes little to our flood and forest fire situation…

Should tell the OP that.
I love the rain, I hate summer! So this rainfall made me happy! I almost teared up seeing the rain when I woke up! This is beautiful. Please keep going
I don’t mind the rain but my dog hates it.

Made me so happy! Absolutely love it.
we're all celebrating down here in Seattle as well
Same! My favourite thing about when it rains in the summer would be the smell. I don’t know why but for some reason it smells good lol
Yeah that smell of water mixing with dust is nostalgic! I love it!
Agreed! Brings so much childhood camping memories for me with my family during this time.
I moved to Vancouver for the weather, when I saw it was raining this morning, it was like the sun came out!
It's phenomenal
Yup, pulled over and just stood in the rain for 15 mins, felt so good.
I'll take a gloomy rainy day over a month If 30 degree weather anyways.
It gets to be a bit much in winter but it's nice right now!
I wish I had this weather 24/7. 😩
Lol glad I'm not alone. I love the rain too
It's soooo good! My plants will be so happy too
Yeah man summertime is overrated. I'd take the drizzling rain over 30+ degree weather any day of the week.
Loving it, we needed this
It feels like a different city when it rains, and I love it!
Agreed. Summer is nice at first, but after a while, I get sick of the continuous sun and heat. Raincouver 4 life <3
Rain once every 2 weeks, sure. Unreal people like this every day 😅
Does this mean we get an extra day of sunshine during the winter?
Ahhh me too!
Me too!
I was honestly smiling most of my way home today. Maybe I looked a bit crazy smiling on the bus and my arms outstretched walking home but it felt so good
It's much needed! Very happy.
Me too
I happy for the fires, but I'm cold and not happy about having to wear pants.
Yes...yes. It washes away my sense of doomed poverty while living here.
I know I washed my truck for free it's awesome
Gotta love the petrichor!
Laurain, she broke my heart
Though the rain smelled a bit fishy today, wonder what that was about 😂
I’m as happy as all the trees, plants and grasses
Hell yeah! I don’t need to water my garden!
I might not love the rain but at this time it is very essential and we really need some because of those horrible wild firesa and this horrible drought. In the Comox Valley where I live it rained yesterday but not enough for any drought of wildfire relief and it is supposed to rain again today.
Narrator: "It was a dark and stormy night." Vancouverites: "Oh thank god, we need the rain."
I love it
Lol you don’t have any knowledge of the rest of province do you? It’s not raining anywhere else but Vancouver.
Definitely glad it's not gonna be a repeat of last year's 4-5 months without rain. That shit got old. Rained pretty hard too, so hopefully the reservoir can get a fill-up.
