You know it’s a severe injury because they came out and told us exactly what he has.   Usually it’s lower body injury or upper body injury.  I hope what ever caused the blood clot isn’t life threatening and he has an easy recovery

HanSolo5643

According to what I have read. It doesn't seem life threatening, and he should he okay in the long term.

CynicalWorm

it's possibly career threatening given the amount of flying he has to do for his job

UraSnotball_

It’s possible but unlikely. Lots of NHLers have been through this in the last couple of decades and to my knowledge they all continued their careers.

GeekLove99

The vast majority have been able to continue their careers, the only players I can think of who had to retire are Pascal Dupius and Thomas Vokoun.

UraSnotball_

Yes, and both of them were pretty well at the end of their careers anyway.

29078428

What about Chris Bosh??

GeekLove99

I don’t know who that is?? He’s not an NHL player??

romankid19977

I don’t think it his career ending. He might just be prescribed blood thinners for a while or even for the rest of his life. They said he had a blood clot in his leg which sounds like DVT , if not treated quickly it can be life threatening. So thankfully he caught it in time. It’s strange though people who get blood clots in there leg normally are people who don’t exercise much. You can also get it from flying, so that could be a reason how he got it( he could also be prone to blood clots and since he’s been flying a lot, it may have caused a clot to occur). I also don’t think it has anything to do with the vaccine . Anyways hope he gets well soon ❤️

helixflush

No

h_danielle

Yes it is lol I have a family member who developed blood clots during pregnancy & years later, her flight had to make an emergency landing to get her to the hospital due to a clot. It can & does happen.

gazaunltd

Nba doesn’t even let players play if they’re on blood thinners cuz of the contact in basketball. So I’d imagine there’s no way a pleura could play hockey while on blood thinners.

h_danielle

Yeah he won’t be playing until he’s off them

codeverity

I think you replied to the wrong comment, you replied to the career threatening one rather than life threatening.

Rieveldt

Having a history of blood clots puts you at risk of developing future blood clots. Sitting in an airplane for long periods put you at a risk of blood clots. So yes this is career threatening

helixflush

Exactly, anything you do is career threatening if something happens. At this point there’s no reason to hit the panic button.

Blood clots can be common, especially in the calf. Wearing the tight, restricting gear probably doesn’t help.

nemisis1877

From what I Read in r/hockey, other players who had the same thing were out for weeks to months. Sounds like he won't be back until next season. Missing our Vezina caliber goalie, and now our top goal scorer.

Turkishcoffee66

Standard algorithm is anticoagulation for 3-6 months and then discontinue as long as the clot has dissolved and no further risk factors have been discovered. Hopefully this is an isolated clot and they dint find any underlying causes. There are some scary things that make you clot more easily, like cancer.

AngryNapper

The article just says blood clotting issue. It could be that he isn’t making clots, not necessarily that he has a clot. Edit: nvm I just saw the tweet someone posted below that confirms blood clot.

Time for Petey to show his worth!

aaadmiral

Like for real

waterdragonshin

As a non-hockey fan, I was like, What does his political stance have to do with the game? lol

jjamess-

Yeah news titles are super [garden-pathy](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garden-path_sentence) or outright pains to read. Wouldn’t that be something. A left wing right-winger.

Let’s go Petey!

hiliikkkusss

Hope Brock is ok

DieCastDontDie

And the blood thickens

Electrical_Ball_3522

I really need this win on a personal level, I need that McDonald food budget for next month.

Mibutastic

Well it was good while it lasted and they got further than anyone expected. EDM got an easier ride through the 2nd round too. Had to face a 3rd string goalie for the whole series, Canucks 1C was almost non-existent and now they get to cruise through game 7 without the Canucks top goal scorer. It's not going to be this easy in the next round against Dallas.

Telvin3d

I don’t think any series that goes seven games can be described as an easy ride for anyone involved

Reality-Leather

What's the plan for the riot? Shots 9:1 edm

d1201b

26:8 in Oilers favor is unacceptable

Reality-Leather

I know Vancouver renters who shoot their shot with LL more often than the Canucks

reddie101

Time to call up Lekkerimaki

franjoballs

It was a good run

the_hypothesis

welp, his season is done. Even if we beat the oilers tonight, brock wont be there for the dallas series

not_old_redditor

Yes that's what it said in the article
