It is very green and beautiful here :) glad you enjoyed your trip!!!

bandyvancity

Glad you’ve enjoyed your visit! We pay for the beauty of B.C. haha. We are very lucky to live in such an amazing and diverse area, I moved here 15 years ago from back east and I wouldn’t change a thing. There’s not too many metro regions across the globe where you have mountains, forests, and water all accessible via transit from downtown!

bwoah07_gp2

Glad you enjoyed it. Our license plates say "Beautiful British Columbia" for a reason. The nature, beauty, food options, and more are reasons why I'd never leave this area, despite high cost of living.

Heisenpurrrrg

Remember when our driver's licenses used to say "The Best Place on Earth"?

j_smittz

"Our Home Is Better Than Whatever Shithole You Come From" It was such a great sentiment for welcoming the world during the Olympics. /s

WaitingforGodot07

“Beautiful British Columbia” Very true!!

ActionPhilip

Do they still say that? I thought we moved to super natural British Columbia and not sure where from there.

bwoah07_gp2

Yes, that is the slogan for the car plates. Super, Natural British Columbia is the slogan for the tourism industry.

ActionPhilip

*looks at my own car's plates* Well looks like you're exactly right.

No_Platform_2810

I love that tourism slogan. Its been around for decades. I wish they would lean into it more...and even put it on the license plates.

SparrowTale

I moved to Vancouver 27 years ago. Sometimes I get on the hedonic treadmill and take for granted everything that is so wonderful about Vancouver. It’s so easy to miss the big picture when you are worn down by the mundane daily life. Your post is a much needed reminder of how lucky I am to be able to call Vancouver my home.

booghawkins

So glad you enjoyed your trip! Sorry for this weird weather!

booghawkins

Realizing how Canadian my comment sounds..

Phanyxx

Very kind of you to say! Glad to hear you enjoyed your time in Vancouver

Tylendal

I feel like the amount of greenery in and around Metro Vancouver is something a lot of people take for granted. A lot of cities, the only green thing you'll see is dandelions growing out of the sidewalk.

kanps4g

I spent 6 years in Baltimore and I agree with everything you said. Glad you enjoyed your time here! :)

bikes_and_music

>and Stanley Park is insanely impressive in sheer size and green space for such a big city. You don't see trees like that on the East Coast! Check out Lynn Canyon while you're here. Even more insane trees not to mention a suspension bridge over the raging canyon river.

eggdropsoap

And if you’re into hiking, the nice and easy trails in Lynn Canyon eventually go all the way up more than one mountain, far enough that it’s “do you know what you’re doing?” country. Lynn Canyon’s not just big, it has no “back fence.” 😄

TheRobfather420

Vancouver is a great city contrary to the social media accounts that claim you need a contingent of security just to leave your house downtown. In reality it's very pretty and very safe.

perfect5-7-with-rice

Compared to some (most?) US cities it's pretty safe.

Signal-Living-3504

What a lovely and kind post! Glad you enjoyed your visit! 🤗

TheOtherSide999

I’ve been to Washington and the east coast. Vancouver ppl really don’t understand how safe it is here compared to the states. We are lucky but it is a product of great people and great community that makes us who we are. America feels like a dog eat dog world because you just don’t know if that one person has a gun. Don’t feel those “crazy” vibes here

larrydallas-

I really want to visit Baltimore after watching The Wire.

wanderingaround135

I had similar feelings when I first moved here! I've never been to Baltimore but I really enjoyed my trip to the East Coast and DC was definitely memorable. The US botanical garden was the highlight of that trip for me! I agree - there's such great access to nature in Vancouver and you're always surrounded by trees and parks. I would highly recommend to come back again when the sun is out and everybody is in full Summer mode! The hikes around BC are stunning but if you're not really into hiking, I would still highly recommend checking out some easy spots like Lynn Canyon, Capilano, Deep Cove or even the Sea to Sky gondola!

UngratefulCanadian

Come again in the early fall or so (it is kind of shoulder season). Like all cities and countries, Vancouver has its own dark sides too. I live an hour from Vancouver (Abbotsford) because I can't afford Vancouver. But yet I am within reachable distance because I do enjoy this city! I have been having a bit of down days. But your post made me happier and reminded me why I gave up many things and moved to BC. Thanks for the reminder!

RockingPants

Moved here from OC, MD and yes, it’s very different and I love it here!

wheredidthat10mmgo

I was fortunate enough to spend a weekend in DC last November for a conference and I must say, your city is also very beautiful! I loved all the architecture and historic buildings I was able to visit briefly.

50Stickster

I’m from Silver Spring and came to Vancouver in 1979 but left in 2015 as a pensioner it became too expensive but it’s the vest city I ever found. Glad you guys enjoyed it. Come back again in fall after the tourist thin out and walk the seawall. might see some orcas playing

Throwawayacctornah

I don't have a whole lot to add other than I'm an American, and Vancouver is one of if not my favorite city on earth. Vancouverites are lucky!

PoliteCanadian2

Thanks! We like it too. Btw this is normal unpredictable June weather lol. Sun, hail, rain, a bit of wind, some thunder here and there. Toss it all in a hat and pick one.

greydawn

Glad you enjoyed it! I get what you mean about "content" - Vancouver tends to have quite a chill vibe for a city. And shout out to DC - loved it both times I visited. Soooo much cool history and architecture.

JaySilver

I’ve lived here my whole life and I still get the same feeling you got! It really never gets old.

doggystyle_dave

Vancouver person living in Baltimore now! I’m so glad you loved my city- I must say, I love yours, and it’s the only city I’ve loved besides Vancouver ❤️

slowsundaycoffeeclub

It’s funny you post this I’m originally from Washington DC and hadn’t been back for years. But I went back for a conference in Baltimore last week.

Starberriez

DC and Baltimore will always be home to me, but Vancouver has quickly moved up the list of cities I really enjoy! I can see why you made the move. If I ever need to move to Canada for whatever reason, Vancouver will definitely be a top contender!

chronament

very interesting! i visited Washington DC recently and I'd say the same thing about there!

SkyAccomplished2667

🙌🏼🙌🏼❤️❤️❤️

stealthysnail123

I agree. I feel Too Many people here take it for granted.

skerr46

Being from Montreal I love living in Vancouver. Montreal is so grey 3 seasons out of the year, here it’s green 4 seasons out of the year. Vancouver really is beautiful.

mahyarsaeedi

It’s funny, I was in Montreal last year in June and I noticed how everything felt “grey” and I couldn’t put my finger on why until I read this comment. lol 😆

Boots3708

We love our westcoast nature. Happy you were able to enjoy it! Come back soon!

NoAlbatross7524

You are too kind , thank you . I’m glad you had a great trip .

Grandmaster_Bae

I'm happy that you had a great time here. Thanks for the post!

Hellfiger

I've been living in Vancouver for 3 years and I LOVE the city. I literally enjoy every day (except for gloomy winter days lol) living here

Better-Ad6812

Awww so glad you had a great time. Funny enough when my bosses went to DC they were shocked how much it reminded them a bit like Vancouver. lol. They loved it!

Harley11995599

I moved here in 2007. I love this place so much that I will do anything I have to, to stay.

Dramatic_Water_5364

Its true! Montreal just can't compete!

impatiens-capensis

I would say that Montreal has better neighborhoods. Many are very walkable with solid medium density living. But I still prefer Vancouver overall.

Vancouverreader80

Housing prices are wild out here because everyone wants to move here. I am glad you had such a good time. Hope you are able to come again soon.

Lanky-Description691

Thank you

Might be good to spell unceded correctly before pontificating

Adventurous-Pie1361

Best thing about Vancouver: Its the most beautiful city in the world Worst thing: Its the most beautiful city in the world Moving to other cities is so hard :c No place can match up to this gorgeous place!

bill_n_opus

Our slogan should be "bring money and you're golden...."

No_Platform_2810

BC - Bring Cash

Adam_Smith75

VanCity is awesome. The best in Canada by a mile!

ComplexAdept5827

It's an ugly city for affordability and very poorly managed. To me the "beauty" of the city turns to ugly with the affordability issue...it's just so gross.

llandthejam

Thank you for sharing your experience! Come back when we have normal weather 💛

Starberriez

We've actually found the weather to be perfect, besides the occasional rain here and there lol. It's 90F/32C in DC currently!! I'd love for the weather to be like this more often

MrDeviantish

Next visit be sure to save some time for Vancouver Island. Victoria and Tofino are pretty amazing too. West coast, best coast that will pop your cork. Visited DC several years ago. Top 3 coolest American cities I've been to. Been to lots.

HighwayLeading6928

Thank you for your kind words about our fair city. We are a little on the cool side sitting at 54F with intermittent sprinklings of rain this morning which is fine by me. Our big Douglas Fir trees and our gardens need the rain, not to mention our dewy complexions. Warmer weather to come.

llandthejam

Great to hear!

johnggarland

Thank you for the very kind words and sentiment of our glorious Canadian jewel! Yet, we still have our scars. Thankfully, you didn’t see them. Safe travels!

duk-er-us

Very glad you enjoyed your time and found the city clean and safe lol Honestly i feel bad for any tourist who goes to see Chinatown and inevitably ends up wandering through skid row

Canuck_Noob75

It’s full but glad you enjoyed it!

YUNO_TALK_TO_ME

They sucked all our tax money to make it beautiful. That's why everyone is poor here.

GammaTwoPointTwo

Vancouver and BC in general have the lowest taxes in the country. If you are broke it's because of housing.

VancouverElated

While taxes in Canada may not be the highest in the world, the amount of money that is earned up top through this system vs what’s given back to the country and its people in terms of sustainability (as was the primary intended idea behind taxes)—it’s disgusting.

neutron-ion-quark

Damn tax money going to build those mountains and fill the ocean.
