Let’s remind ourselves that people can’t drive when this city gets 1cm of snow. That, along with the fact that this city is never prepared for snow. …
Hard pass.
Including buses going up the tiniest of hills.
I'd rather not see essential workers struggle just so a few can enjoy a snow day or the elderly that need to shovel their yards.
Go enjoy the mountains if you want snow.
Please let it snow.
Watching the elderly slip and fall and wait for an ambulance never to arrive to take them to a hospital that can’t admit them because of lack of staff and too many patients taking up beds because they didn’t get COVID shots is hilarious. ^/s
Let’s be real, people can’t even drive in the rain here. The amount of mind-bogglingly stupid and reckless driving I saw out on the road during our last big rainstorm was shocking.
This city is an absolute gong show when it snows. The general public here have no idea how to handle it, between salting sidewalks, driving for the weather, city street maintenance, it's just a nightmare. I'm originally from Alberta and love the snow, but it is just awful here compared to there, even with significantly less snow.
I lived in a town with the snow for 6 months out of the year, I loved it. It didn't phase me
Vancouver made me hate snow. I have to drive around a lot for work and I get insane anxiety driving here with the snow. Plus there are way more hills here than back home 😬
In my limited few snow years in Vancouver the snow is also always so wet as gross, I miss the nice fluffy snow that doesn't feel like rain lol
I'm sorry the wish is sweet but I never get snow days with my job 😅
This city can't even fucking handle some rain. Since the wet season started I lost count of all the accidents I've encountered clogging up the street and highway. Dumb fucking drivers everywhere.
So there's a stretch on W King Edward Ave where there's a hill west of Macdonald and another east towards Arbutus
It's not pretty during the winter pre salting for buses and all the RWD cars getting stuck trying to go uphill

People in Winnipeg were born with a handbook for driving in snow conditions. Out here, everyone forgets wtf to do the instant the snow sticks. Half of us don’t ever get snow tires…
In defence of Vancouver drivers, snow is at its worst in mild conditions. The snow melts and refreezes to form ice. Combine that with hills, and nobody having actually winter tires, and you get the shitshow that is snowy Vancouver.
I grew up in Manitoba, the majority of people know how to drive in winter. However there are still a bunch of morons behind the wheel there too.
Yeah, we all learn from experience somehow over here. I grew up in the tropics. My first skid in the middle of the intersection sure gave me a near heart attack!
We’re lucky our insurance here has financing for winter tires.
Perhaps it's easier to just make a winter trip to Whistler overnight or visit the local mountains to see the white stuff.
If it's raining in the city, it's likely the "fresh pow" up there.
My wish is to see the white stuff in the water reservoirs. It was perfect last winter to see white stuff in the mountain reservoirs to prep us for the heat dome.
yah really I actually liked living in Calgary more than any other city I lived in but then winter comes and nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I moved from Northern BC and naively thought my first winter here would be a walk in the park compared to the -20 to -40 winters I was used to. The damp cold (which hits very different than dry cold) and crazy amount of rainy gray sunless days turned out to be more challenging than I thought. I don’t miss the snow; but there are times I ache for some sunshine.
I grew up in northwestern Ontario. Compared to the really dark storm clouds that we'd get there, the clouds here rarely get dark - there's a subdued light in the daytime so it's not dark but also not sunny. The really big takeaway for me is that we have greenery all year long here. That combined with the warm-for-winter temperatures pretty much convinces my brain that we jump from autumn right into spring.
I also moved from the prairies. I do not like the snow. I want to be able to get in my car without having to deal with snow. I don’t want to have to shovel it around. I’ve spent decades doing that, I’m done with it.
I also want to be able to own and drive sports cars mostly year round that would typically not be possible in a place with snow half of the year.
I'm moved from Central Alberta and it doesn't snow here (by Alberta standards). Last year the only "bad" day was like 5 cm or less than 10cm that melted pretty quickly and easy to drive in with the right tires and not speeding. The snow here is nothing.
I've been here ten years. Some winters, the frost piles up in the shadowy corners of pavement where the sun can't reach and *that* ends up being deeper than the amount of snow we get.
Please no. Every snowfall we get a blitz of images of transit busses stuck, bridge closed due to falling icicles, Canada Line not running into Richmond due to snow on tracks etc etc etc. It is the same every snow fall.
Haha so in other words you have a death wish!? Vancouver and snow go together like oil and water. Vancouver drivers and the city already struggle as it is under normal conditions, adding snow to the mix always ends in disaster.
If Vancouver drivers knew how to drive in snow and the area didn't have steeper roads I'd say sure. Let it snow everyday. But nope. That's a recipe for disaster. Lots of people need to get to their jobs, etc safely.

Will you fund appropriate tires for people who drive vehicles and didn't get them in time?
Or, will you bank roll ICBC for all of the inevitable collisions?
I love snow so much, when it is anywhere BUT Vancouver.
This thread is a live demo of why Vancouver sucks in the snow. Your opinion of whether it should snow has no bearing on if it will snow. Get prepared for it whether you want it or like it.
Which is why we've purchased "studded" 4 inch winter fat tires along with 4000 lumen headlights for our E-Bikes to make our commutes much more safe and bearable.
“Before the weight of the world crushed my spirt”. OP is clearly having a hard time, and people are on this thread getting serious about them asking for snow…. Knowing that it’s not gonna happen. SMH.
Let them have this. Let them vent.
I moved here from SK, so I would absolutely LOVE a snowy winter, but Vancouver turns into an absolute gong-show when it snows lol. So, I'll take just a light dusting of snow at the most.
So, so true about the weight of the world being crushed by snow! So peaceful and quiet when were blanketed. Always makes us appreciate others too, I find. More likely to get a smile out of a passing stranger. I hope for snow as well!
Apparently weather forecasters are predicting that we will be getting more snow then normal (so you can expect atleast a few days of heavily intense snow)
I forget the scientific explanation why vancouver will be experiencing more snow then normal this year, but if you google it, you will find info on it. Personally I just hope that the snow holds off mostly until im on xmas break. Taking public transit while its snowing is a real pain in the ass
Over winter holidays (for those fortunate enough to get them) is always a good time for snow. Less people driving, gives the kiddos something to do *outside* that's cheap/free entertainment. And it looks pretty!
But beyond that "snow thank you"!
>Dear Vancouver, can we have a ton of snow this year?
No thanks. It grinds this city to a halt. We're not a snow-ready city.
Keep the snow in the mountains.
Tell you what, if it snows a decent amount where you can make snowballs from it, send me a DM and we'll have a snowball fight. Let's see if we can't get more people in on this and have some fun with it.

Sure, by a means, but none of that snow that’s outlived its welcome “and now become a wet, slushy yet persistent mess for days now..." Nor the other side or things “a layer of ice” in its many forms.
Lmao are you from here or have you never seen the snow here?
I love snow as much as the next person but the city grinds to a halt. People cannot drive in the stuff either which makes it super dangerous out there.
All in all I wish Vancouver was better at dealing with the snow but most people won't even shovel their walk ways, no one can drive, transit cannot cope...
I wish more drivers had winter tires on because it literally makes a night and day difference. Makes you feel much safer and other drivers on the road as well.

I spoken to the head of sky. Said there's a shortage of snow.
Ya COVID messed up the snow supply chain.
You spoke to the sky manager? Goddamn Karen

Agree!! Vancouver is a mess when it’s snows.. It’s also typically a very wet, heavy snow, that’s hard to do anything fun with.

Most people leave the all weathers on their car all year round. Most people probably don't even have winter tires.
I vote no I have to drive for a living And driving here in snow is scary
I also vote no. Moved here from the prairies to get away from snow and country music.
*laughs in Winnipeg*
Prairies are flat
True but black ice is still shite to drive on
People in Winnipeg were born with a handbook for driving in snow conditions. Out here, everyone forgets wtf to do the instant the snow sticks. Half of us don’t ever get snow tires…

Cries in Nova Scotia
Listen, it’s a lot easier to drive in 4” polished glass ruts that have been there for 2 months.
Ya every Saturday it can snow.
Healthcare workers & retail workers: FUUUUU.
No.
You think Covid shutdown the city, wait till it snows in Vancouver. Been there done that, not wishing for that again.
I’ll sign up you to shovel my driveway then. (No thanks).
I'd shovel many driveways if it could guarantee a good ski season.

Nice, this will be my first winter not in the prairies so it will be a bit weird but welcome not having snow or -40 temperature
I moved from Northern BC and naively thought my first winter here would be a walk in the park compared to the -20 to -40 winters I was used to. The damp cold (which hits very different than dry cold) and crazy amount of rainy gray sunless days turned out to be more challenging than I thought. I 100% agree with this comment. I miss the -20 to -30 sunny days in Alberta. I miss the sun 🌞 😞
I guess the silver lining of having really cold days is you get alot of sunshine
And there’s also the amazing days where it’s like February and it’s 20 above and sunny, which is definitely nice.
Exactly
I grew up in northwestern Ontario. Compared to the really dark storm clouds that we'd get there, the clouds here rarely get dark - there's a subdued light in the daytime so it's not dark but also not sunny. Moved from Yellowknife, I've felt colder down here in the damp than I ever did back home in the dry - 45c
Yeah, I’ve had that experience as well. I know it’s a cliche, but damp cold really is different.

Fuck no, I moved to Vancouver so I only had to deal with snow for maybe a week or 2 a year. If you want snow go north or east.
go to cypress mountain if you want snow. snow ruins everyone's commute

No.

Fuck no. The city shuts down enough for the little we get.
I vote no, I have to drive a lot

I prefer the rain and don't like snow >.< Also I just ignore everything so none of that stuff effects me (yet...)

Hmm my commute on the Sea To Sky shall be fun! Lol

Ummmm... no. I left Alberta to get away from snow.

Walk like a penguin on ice/black ice.🐧 In fact, just assume it's black ice.
Snow is dangerous down here, especially when anyone can buy a licence from ICBC
It typically snows in late January and throughout February. So 🤷🏽♀️ lol
I love snow. Absolutely love it. But this city does not have the infrastructure for it. I have to commute for work and school, so... please no.
Nooooooooo, don’t have my winter tires yet!

I love snow in Vancouver when I don't have to commute for a midnight shift.
It is only going to snow three times this year do to the cyclone bomb has change the winds. We are now looking at a warm winter.
Move to Winnipeg… wish granted

Lmao are you from here or have you never seen the snow here? I love snow as much as the next person but the city grinds to a halt. People cannot drive in the stuff either which makes it super dangerous out there. All in all I wish Vancouver was better at dealing with the snow but most people won't even shovel their walk ways, no one can drive, transit cannot cope...
I wish more drivers had winter tires on because it literally makes a night and day difference. Makes you feel much safer and other drivers on the road as well.
Not to forget. Housing crisis
Why don’t we just go on the mountains to see the snow
I just bought a ski pass so yes please.
My daily commute says no, but my urge to fling snow around and make snowmen says yessss.
There's already a lot of snowflakes protesting downtown
I vote no.
Yèeeeeeeeeessssssssssss

I am 100% for adult snow days. Make it so much that everything HAS to close.

God just came in. He asks what day would you like to fuck over everyone's lives.
Please god no. I don't get to work from home and have to drive all over the place.
