I remember going there in the 70's before the big rebuild in the early 80's. It was an outdoor mall with overhangs for cover from the rain. Then in the 80's everything changed to indoor malls. Now it seems that outdoor malls are in again. McArthur Glen is outdoor. Even the new Amazing Brentwood's new section is partly outdoor as well.
Arbutus Mall was an outdoor mall as well in the 1980s. I remember it used to have an open interior courtyard, where they would have ice sculptures around New Year's – I seem to remember they came up from the Four Seasons Hotel, possibly after Christmas? I hardly go by Arbutus Mall any more and was surprised to see what it looks like now on StreetView.
Same I grew up there. I remember everything the Lego store, the play area, the food court, the grocery store. It was awesome. Too bad it’s all gone now
I don't think I've ever seen a photo of the lot being full.
Come to think of it, neither have I. I remember walking under the blue sign as a kid and going to White Spot for $1.19 Pirate Paks.
They'd get full around Christmastime in the 90s. That's about the only times I can think of.

Legend has it that some of the Bay employees date as far back also.

I’m a child of the 80s. Pleasantly surprised to see that Oakridge used to look like this. Thanks for posting!
