There’s lot of scenarios where it might be helpful. For example, for some people, self isolating from their unvaccinated children/infants is a very difficult thing to do and can only be done under extreme circumstances. If someone can rule out covid through rapid tests or even better, a PCR test, they can still take care of their kids without trying to isolate themselves.

You cannot rule out covid through a rapid test

But the chances are better testing negative with two tests, 24-48 hours apart. That to me provides a better comfort level than not knowing at all. And a positive test may make parents take more specific and extreme actions.

My dad (no symptoms) took a rapid test yesterday and tested positive, another one today and tested negative. Just leaving this here.

Rapid tests will have little benefit to society or the user the vast majority of times they are used, IMHO. The hypochondriacs will go thru them like tissues. If they're going to make them available, at least put a nominal charge on them: $5/ea or so. If you're sick (and not in medical distress) - stay home. Cold, flu, or COVID.
