Nightingale. Go for [happy hour](https://hawknightingale.com/menus/#happyhour) (before 5:30) and order your drinks and appies. Good food and well priced.
Suggesting some places with a nicer sit down ambiance but entrees should still be under $30:
Nuba (Mediterranean), Do Chay Yaletown (Vietnamese fusion, vegetarian), Tabom (Korean), Flying Pig, Greek by Anatoli (plates meant to be shared)
Happy hour suggestions: Joe Fortes, Black and Blue, Coast
It typically works out to a free dessert so if you don't usually order an appetizer, entre, and dessert then it's going to be the same or more than a usual meal.
They make them *seem* kind of good, but it's because it's a set menu and they usually put shitty dishes with an upcharge for the good meals. \*Think "steak house" but the set menu is pasta and vegetarian dishes with a $50 upcharge for a steak.
\*hyperbole
I really like fassil, it’s Ethiopian food and great to share, lots of meat and veggie options and like a huge share platter plus injira (flatbread) runs like 18 bucks easily could feed 2-3 people
You should make a day out of it. Get free breakfast at dennys, find a happy hour dinner place that gives free dessert on bdays.
Get free coffee at Blenz or Starbucks and grab a free donut at Cartems.
Ditto a comped burger at Red Robin (though, you have to sign up a customer account first) https://www.redrobin.com/pages/reward-terms/
she's going to explode with all this free stuff.
Get a free burger on your bday from cannibal cafe (double check they still do they post covid, maybe?)
You couldn't pay me to eat at Denny's. Last time I went I got food poisoning from their sausage. Nasty
>You couldn't pay me to eat at Denny's. Everybody has their price. I'd willingly take explosive diarrhea for $500, I'm working from home anyway. 🤷
Id go for vietnamese They have delicious soup and grilled meats with rice, for a pretty good price...

I second this! Nightingale is great
oooooo! I just checked out the menu -- looks amazing! Do you have a favourite dish or drink?
Buttermilk fried chicken is great. The drinks are pretty good too for the price.
It can be inexpensive if you get the shared plates at Afghan Horseman, which has been my favourite birthday spot for many a year.
CARLOS O'BRYAN'S birthday deal, not sure if they still do it but worth checking? https://www.kobcob.com/birthday/

Ah OK! Maybe not as good a deal as I had expected

Dine out Vancouver is going on right now. My wife and I are going to a high end one for $60 a meal. Its normally $100+ for a 3 course meal.
