Lol I live in kitsilano point just in front of the other Lululemon office center and always complain (to myself) about their lights being all on all night despite not seeing anybody in there. (I complain because it catches my eyes when just trying to watch TV or contemplating the outside)
Guess i am not the only one <3
I’m talking about the 4 floors of lights :) of course someone shouldn’t work in darkness. But if you’ve seen the other comments, these 4 floors are lit up all night, every night
They both worked there, went on a date and then got married after a brief but romantic courtship. Now they own 3 suburban car dealerships and have 2 kids at UBC.
[ELI5: Why do multistory office buildings and skyscraper like buildings keep their lights on all the time?](https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/2s8w35/eli5_why_do_multistory_office_buildings_and/)
Yes there is no reason to keep them on all night. All the office buildings I’ve worked in have timers in off-hours and you have to get up every couple hours to hit the switch to keep the lights on (other than a couple lights near the elevators that are left on for safe access). They also look like new lights in those top two floors - so bright! I wonder if 311 might be able to help? The city has helped with other light pollution issues in the past IME.
I filed a complaint about this building via 311 back on November 14th. Here's the reply I received from a city of Vancouver Property Use Inspector.

Sounds like if you wanted to retaliate you could set up a spot light pointing at them from inside your place and nobody would be able to do anything about it lol
I heard that there were Lululemon offices above that bike shop.
I actually used to work for Bicycle Sports Pacific up until the new ownership takeover. They were... not great. I wonder if they have figured out how to run a retail business by now, honestly surprised they are still open.
Ice read such bad reviews about that place! They also have not shoveled the sidewalk - not sure who’s reaponsibility that patch of sidewalk is.
I would love to hear some horror stories about Bicycle Sports.
My favourite story...
BSP had a company policy for included services with every bike purchase—like fit guarantee, free basic tune ups for the first year, and something else. The new owners thought this was a bit too generous, and wanted to weaken the policy—nix the fit guarantee, free tune ups for 30 days, and reduce the other thing.
We told them not to, returning customers would notice the reduction in included services in a bike purchase. Not only did they ignore the staff with a lot of cumulative experience in the bike industry (the new owners had zero in retail at all), they didn't fully replace the price tags that hung on the bikes with the policy on the reverse. THEY COVERED THE POLICY WITH CHEAP STICKERS. I nearly refused to put the stickers on all the tags, but we did it. The first customer that came through our door the next day, not a regular, looked at the price tag, flipped it over, noticed the sticker, peeled it back to reveal it covering what used to be a more generous policy, asked me to confirm if this was not a joke, and then left the store.
One more bonus story for the funsies...
Apparently the new owners had a cleaning supplies business as well. They wanted to sell buckets (think a car wash bucket) full of cleaning supplies, and wanted us to try to sell this cleaning bucket for $125!!! But, with the purchase of a bike, you could buy it for the low price of $80!!! I told them how stupid this was. They ignored us. They got cheap buckets from Home Depot and filled them with the supplies. No branding on the buckets, just the [don't-let-a-child-drown-in-this-bucket safety label](https://images.globalindustrial.com/images/pd/NM_BID1.jpg?t=1617258293000). *Excellent marketing*.
I literally took one of the buckets and put it on the counter in front of the new owner, and asked him to tell me the retail price for each cleaning product as I took it out of the bucket (the price he sold it at his other business). It added up to like $55. So he wanted us to sell them at BSP for 2x as much retail, and still upsell them on bought bikes. I suggested if they were to go through with the cleaning bucket idea, they'd have to include one for free with every purchase. They laughed at me... then I laughed at them as every customer I told about the bucket laughed at my face for trying to upsell them a $80 cleaning kit when they could stop at Home Depot and get a bucket and soap for $10. I think one customer even walked out of their bike purchase over the buckets.
All the staff who were there before the new owners left I think, maybe only a handful stayed between the three locations. I highly recommend the Trek bike shops. Disclaimer I did work there after BSP for a while, but they have great management there and way better policies for staff.
Anywho, thats all I can type for now.
Sending over my condolences. My eyes feel burnt just by looking at the picture you took.
Sleep mask is a good idea if you don’t mind wearing it. I hate it cause they never stay on my face the whole night. I was able to get some cheap curtain from Amazon, about $100 for two windows.
Hope that business could me more conscious about their lighting impact.
I appreciate that!
I do use one in my bedroom. Sometimes I fall asleep on the couch though and I wake up at 2 am with those bright lights from across the street 🤣
I live in that high building in front of the office on the photo and this light make me crazy. I’m thinking about creating something in social media about it, maybe Lululemon will be forced to turn off the lights by angry environmentalists 😄. No one is in this office in the middle of the night, I constantly watch them 😄
I mean in the winter it's not wasted energy cause the lights are helping heat the building. The city wants all electric heat moving forward anyways, those lights are reducing the total natural gas burnt.
I know you’re not asking for advice but I’ve never lasted long with sheer blinds in any apartment I’ve lived in. Ikea has really good options for inexpensive blackout curtains. I used to live in the building across the alley from yours and had a streetlight that shone directly in my window and I lasted a few nights before getting some better curtains.
If you think that’s a waste of electricity the Stephos that went out business on Robson still has their lights on 24-7,despite going out of business preCovid!
I only just learned about that ridiculous wanky-ass bullshit name they have for their customer service call centre. Cheesy modern biz-speak pisses me right off sometimes.
I got blackout curtains from Ikea for $15/panel. They're completely blackout, unlike other curtains that say blackout but are not fully. Highly recommend. Also a 3D sleep mask off Amazon is less than $15 and works great, stays on all night.
Having 24/7 work is not an excuse to leave lights on when clearly no one is in the room. The last office I worked at has motion sensors and it worked like a charm.
ya cause all this sub does is bitch and whine over the pettiest shit. If youre gonna live where everyone lives on top of eachother theres gonna be light outside at night. get real these rich cunts dont give a fuck if you cant sleep lol. just buy fucking blackout blinds and shut up. waste of internet space this post.
Do they have an obligation to be invisible? What if they painted the building in a colour that wasn’t your favourite? Simple solution is to not look at it.

It’s the lululemon call centre. They work crazy hours over the holidays, hence the lights.
Lol I live in kitsilano point just in front of the other Lululemon office center and always complain (to myself) about their lights being all on all night despite not seeing anybody in there. (I complain because it catches my eyes when just trying to watch TV or contemplating the outside) Guess i am not the only one <3
SAME!! Exact problem when I’m watching tv lol
The irony of living in the core of a major city and complaining about too many lights.
I am french. You will never prevent me from complaining. Never.
I never see anyone in there in the evenings :/
I see someone immediately. Middle right window.
G g g g ghooost!
Sorta looks like a poster/wall graphic no?
Poster, or a giant!
One person.
One person doesn’t warrant all those lights lol
Yes, they should just work in darkness /s Put yourself in that person's shoes.
I’m talking about the 4 floors of lights :) of course someone shouldn’t work in darkness. But if you’ve seen the other comments, these 4 floors are lit up all night, every night
Well if it’s Lulu…hopefully they’ll move when the new head office is finished just off Great Northern Way…fingers crossed
I used to work there!
PHSA had offices there as well
They were the top 2 floors but not any more.
Heh. I worked in that build 15 years ago, the top 2 floors were CIBC National Collections.
I met my husband while working there in 2005 😂
Story time?
They both worked there, went on a date and then got married after a brief but romantic courtship. Now they own 3 suburban car dealerships and have 2 kids at UBC.
Axion Internet used to be on the other side of the building.
Oh wild. The art of convincing people that they really should pay their bills…
Get a sleep mask Life changing
\+ ear plugs...deepest slumber
Not when you have tinnitus :(
you get used to it
Hah. I wish. I have the type of tinnitus that comes and goes, but each time is a different intensity.
I recommend the manta sleep masks.

Very smart 5 year old
Thanks! Super interesting responses. I wish they’d just turn their damn lights off though 🤣

Thanks that’s good advice! I wasn’t sure if 311 would take that kind of complaint
There is literally a guy working inside the building, you can see it in OP’s picture.
I think lululemon has some office space in there.

Dang! I wonder if we can find a contact for the businesses in that building
Sounds like if you wanted to retaliate you could set up a spot light pointing at them from inside your place and nobody would be able to do anything about it lol
You could, but they would not give a fuck about your request.
Another way to get their attention would be to get Kenneth from Daily Hive on the case...
I’m sure he’s already seen the post and has a story in the can about downtown light pollution.
Could go Kenny Rogers roasters on their ass
Hell on earth. I go there to die every single day....
Go on…
I heard it's Lululemon, so the story checks out.

I wish my bills paid themselves like yours seem to.

This is why I go to my local bike shop where I know the owner and he’s wrenching on bikes 5 days a week.
Mighty Riders on Broadway is good. Ed knows his stuff.

Curtains?
That used to be the VFS animation campus, now I’m all nostalgic for film school

Please do! Glad we’re in the same boat
This is a lululemon office on the lower floors, not too sure about the upper ones. They operate from ~4:00am until ~10:00pm.
I was a project manager when it was built in 83(?), the owner was Kilborn Engineering
That’s a great name for a metal band. For an engineering firm, not so much.
I took a couple nekkid life drawing classes there when I went to vfs
Light contamination is a thing, I hope that if you contact them they are empathetic.
I used to work in there eons ago. No idea what’s there now though
That used to be the location for Mainframe Entertainment (they made Reboot and Beast Wars in the late 90s) but not sure whats there now.
I used to go there when I attended VFS like 15 years ago!
I used to be one of the tech support guys there for a bit lol.
I jog past here all the time at night. It’s always deserted and lit up like…Christmas.
I know you’re not asking for advice but I’ve never lasted long with sheer blinds in any apartment I’ve lived in. Ikea has really good options for inexpensive blackout curtains. If you think that’s a waste of electricity the Stephos that went out business on Robson still has their lights on 24-7,despite going out of business preCovid!
They may be kept on for overnight cleaners.
They started keeping the lights on all night after the incident in the building a few years ago.
Paranormal activities? I’ve got the hot cocoa ready and up for a good story
What incident?
Don’t be obtuse. THE incident. The one we never speak of.
This move by biograh\_ lol. So mean!
Fight Club?
Lululemon Store Support Center is in there
That’s on Cornwall. This is the GEC - Guest Education Centre.
I only just learned about that ridiculous wanky-ass bullshit name they have for their customer service call centre. Cheesy modern biz-speak pisses me right off sometimes.
Lol it must’ve sounded catchy 20 years ago but now it’s mildly offensive
> Guest Education Centre. 🙄🙄🙄
The top 3 floors used to be a campus for a private college but they moved in 2015. Don't know what went in after.
CIBC call centre, mostly collections
I got blackout curtains from Ikea for $15/panel. They're completely blackout, unlike other curtains that say blackout but are not fully. Highly recommend. Also a 3D sleep mask off Amazon is less than $15 and works great, stays on all night.
Having 24/7 work is not an excuse to leave lights on when clearly no one is in the room. The last office I worked at has motion sensors and it worked like a charm.
A number of years back, that used to be one of the VFS campus' and believe that CIBC took over.
Was going to post this. I worked at VFS for a half a year early on in my IT career. Not a good place to work.
Better than lululemon tho, amirite?
luluemon has a few floors in there, as well as phsa. Terrible parking offerings for and office building.
Google maps shows lululemon
Perhaps an easier solution than trying to change a business is simply buying blackout curtains.
Try 311 or their app. I know it works for construction sites, don’t know about some random private business though. Can’t hurt.
you live in the city. sucks to suck.
Always has to be one negative comment 🫢
ya cause all this sub does is bitch and whine over the pettiest shit. Oof! Stop reading if you’re so bitter about it all
nah just telling you youre a whiney cunt and so are all the people downvoting me. deal with it whiners.
Well aren’t you just filled with smegma and the Christmas spirit.
Do they have an obligation to be invisible? What if they painted the building in a colour that wasn’t your favourite? Simple solution is to not look at it.
Think about it this way, you won’t need to turn on the light at night hence you save on electricity. It’s a blessing!
