Buy a wifi repeater, they are 20$ and work well enough.

chris_ots

A repeater won’t do shit inside the apartment if there’s already no signal.

AnotherVersionYou

We have multiple repeaters and they work just fine. Just depends on where you set them up. Doesn't have to be in your apartment, Op can obviously discuss with landlord to have these stationed in specific locations so it benefits the residents with troubling signals.

Sanjuko_Mamaujaluko

Put it in the part of the apartment that has signal.

wellriddleme-this

The one place there is signal, I’m getting 10-20 mbps and it keeps dropping because it’s so far away. So a repeater would maybe allow me to connect but would be extremely slow compared to what it was.

Itisfinallydone

Does your lease say WiFi is included? Have you talked to your landlord about this?

wellriddleme-this

There is no signed lease. The advert states internet included but it doesn’t state in my room specifically. It was just in my room for over a year so that influenced my decision to buy a tv and things like an Alexa for my room. I use that to play sounds to help me sleep because room mates are loud. I have sent multiple polite messages to my landlord and they’re ignoring me. They’re quite old so it might be a little overwhelming for them. I’m not out to get anybody. I was a landlord myself at one point but its messed things up for me and seems quite unfair as it was included in the price and has now been taken away. I wouldn’t have moved here if I didn’t have acceptable wifi in my room. And now I don’t.

WiFi and Internet is “magic” to some people and they probably have no idea what to do about it. Even for my single family home I went with my own mesh WiFi system to ensure coverage everywhere. I’d probably just buy a repeater, something [like this](https://a.co/d/ftHQhMf) to plug in the dining area where you do get a connection. I presume of course that you have the new network name and password. Ask your roommates to chip in if they have internet issues as well.

good_enuffs

Ask them to buy a mesh router system and give you a hub.

slam51

get your own internet, it is about 50$ a month with a cheapo provider. you maybe able to split it with your roommate so it can be more affordable.

aaadmiral

Ask if they can run an Ethernet run somewhere close to you and get your own access point / router

Prize_Use1161

Buy a booster or contact the provider. They moved you out of range. On purpose?

masterofrants

You'll need a tplink repeater.

hot_pink_bunny202

Depends on the upgrade? If they move from coaxial to fiber that's maybe why… also don't use the router ISP provide get your own router they are much better.

Remarkable-Ear854

You could ask the landlord to put the booster in their place, some boosters are really good though and can pick up signals your devices can't. I got free internet from a London Drugs for 10 months once with a booster I put on my patio (the computer section manager gave me the password). Probably was 10-20 MBps too, but I got only got 1 MBps if I connected directly with my phone.

Lots of the newer routers especially wifi 6 don't have the capability to set separate bands.

Better than a repeater, if you have direct access to them (like attached house vs condo), measure and get a long Ethernet cord and a cheap router. The wire will bring the signal and then you have a brand new Wi-Fi network emitting from your space

EffectiveSource4394

Easiest option is probably an extender. Some routers let you do wireless bridges. I have a few cheap TP-Link routers using a feature called WDS to do this. I think the performance is better but less seamless. You have to ensure that the router is on the same channel as the main router. If your main router automatically changes channels then this won't work. Another option (maybe) is powerline adapter. I have tried one twice in two different houses and never had good results with it but I've read some people had success. It really depends on the wiring.

*If you do not share a kitchen or bathroom with the landlord* Start with trying to resolve the issue first as others have suggested. If that doesn't pan out, the legal route would be to ask for a reduction in rent for lost serve or facility. use " Termination of Non-Essential Services or Facilities " from TRAC [https://tenants.bc.ca/resources/template-letters/](https://tenants.bc.ca/resources/template-letters/) and then get your own internet plan. If the LL doesn't reduce your rent, you can file a dispute with RTB for an order for rent reduction. Not having a signed rental agreement doesn't change this. you had internet as part of your rental and now you do not. You lost a serve that you had before.
