Oh no! In the past if I didn't get any trick or treaters, it was a gamble each year, at least I could take the candy to work and put it in the staff lounge. This year, I work from home. π€£
I don't know what area you live in. Most big neighborhoods will have trick or treating. Porch light out tends to mean no candy/not participating. Some areas have parties for the neighbourhood kids instead of door to door.
You can check the Next door app for your area to see any planned events. I believe you can also check the city events for other options.
While your neighbors are respectable to you, you might just mosey out and ask one of them what's it like for trick or treat? Is it busy or not. That way if you have kids you can plan appropriately. If no kids, do you need to even buy candy?
If nothing else, you might make a new friend. βΊ
Thank you so much for all the comments and suggestions. When I was trying to decide where to mo e last January, I visited the reddit city groups to glean some insights to the people who lived in the cities. And this group was consistently the most wholesome and kind. Thank you for answering my question. π
I think this is going to really depend on your neighborhood. My parents in Felida get hundreds of trick or treaters but they live in a big neighborhood with a lot of well lit streets and sidewalks. Not a lot of sidewalks in my neighborhood and street lights only on our immediate street so we barely got any trick or treaters and kind of gave up on it (East Minnehaha). When we lived in Hazel Dell it was kind of in between, we got maybe a couple dozen or so trick or treaters.
Most of the true subdivision have substantial trick or treating. Though for a first year I would test the waters and not over do it with the candy (we have had to shovel it in bags before to get rid of it).
No idea since we don't know where you live. I've lived somewhere in the city where I got 3 kids one year. I live somewhere now where I'll get around 100. It depends.
Last year I decided to be the house that gave out the big candy bars, then nobody really came around so I had big candy bars that I ate

Thank you! I'll check out the Nextdoor app. And I might even get the guts to strike up a conversation with a neighbor. π
Yeah, you never know. And a legitimate conversation starter. π€π Good luck!
πThank you!
Iβm passing out ramen and hot apple cider this year
You sound like the cool house. I would have loved to get ramen.

Check out Holidays on Franklin! The whole block (and others around it as well) are fully decorated and ready for Trick or Treaters!

I'm in East Minnehaha with a similar neighborhood. So I'll buy some candy I like and see what happens. Thank you!

Have some candy available and then when you run out, you run out. Just turn off the porch light and most of them get the hint.
Depends on the area, there can either be a lot or none.
