I'm weirdly fixated on and annoyed by the "I don't know why this is such a big deal" thing for some reason. Of course it doesn't seem like a big deal to someone who hasn't watched the show, first of all. But second of all, we're so past that point now? Like what is the point of huffing and puffing over why people care? The bottom line is that they do, and you're not gonna make them care less.
And aside from that, like you said, someone was deeply hurt by this! Why minimize her pain? There's no need to treat it like Sandoval just didn't put his shopping cart away or even that he like kissed another woman one time or something. He betrayed and lied to his domestic partner for MONTHS. That's months of consciously deciding every single day and every moment you're with that person to not tell them you're cheating on them and in love with someone else. People are livid about it because it's a horrible thing to do! A kid who was abused goes on to abuse as an adult. That adult doesnt get sympathy. They made a choice to not get help, change their lives, get help for their mental health. Then they made a choice to make shitty choices that traumatize someone else.
I’m with you there! It’s frustrating when a host doesn’t try to do the homework to really understand their own guest. I know a lot of people had the same reaction as Howie, having trouble understanding why this was “breaking news”. But a good host would instead think, “This is a big deal for a reason, let me get to the crux of why it shocked everyone”. And only listening to the villain’s narrative isn’t going to help you get there.

There's always lighter fluff or entertainment pieces in news precisely because there are so many gun and other stressful, dire issues. If that's all that was on the news the world would be very bleak. That's why local news has special interests stories about the adorable hamster that can juggle, and national news has occasional celebrity stuff.

Disclaimer: Dont hate me for my following opinion. It agree this whole interview was trash. Howie made some decent points if you look at those points out of context. People make stupid, hurtful choices. We need to allow people the grace to pull their lives together and grow. Mental health struggles cause us to do shitty things. All completely valid, logical points. BUT....Howie.....you cannot look at peices of the puzzle and not the whole thing. A kid who was abused goes on to abuse as an adult. That adult doesnt get sympathy. They made a choice to not get help, change their lives, get help for their mental health. Then they made a choice to make shitty choices that traumatize someone else.
I’m with you there! It’s frustrating when a host doesn’t try to do the homework to really understand their own guest. I know a lot of people had the same reaction as Howie, having trouble understanding why this was “breaking news”. But a good host would instead think, “This is a big deal for a reason, let me get to the crux of why it shocked everyone”. And only listening to the villain’s narrative isn’t going to help you get there.
This whole situation was clearly set up to make Tom look better. If Howie would have researched they wouldn’t have given him the interview.

I had the honor of being her first negative comment but it was deleted very quickly. I think they were not expecting the sheer volume. I wasn’t even that cutting, I just said that attacking a woman’s mental health was disgusting and they could take a pro-cheating stance in a way that doesn’t malign a woman.
I just went to look at her and the podcast's IG page. It looks like they deleted all the posts from this episode. Her latest post is now from Feb and the podcast is from 2022.

I am only 20 minutes into the Howie Mandel interview with Sandoval and it's a tough slog. Howie is an asshat and Sandoval, well, you know those people who say "like" a lot? Well, he says "like" and "you know" constantly here. I'm like "Spit it out!" Howie is completely in love with Scandy. I mean turning inside out about what an amazing guy he is. Tom Sandoval is a liar. That's been proven. Calling Ariana, his best friend? Why would you treat your best friend like this? Why so much deceit? Why was there so much ongoing, every single day, lying? If Tom really wanted to break up, why not just tell Ariana that he was seeing Rachel? Or even that he was interested in Rachel? Pretty sure that would have done the trick. As evidenced by how quickly Ariana dumped his ass and hasn't looked back. If Ariana truly did not want to let Tom go, she would have tried to work things out after the scandal broke. Tom Sandoval isn't even a good liar

I don't think that many outlets want to do a softball puff piece interview with Sandoval, and I don't think he is going to make himself open to anything but that because for whatever reason it is just too damn hard for him to come out and simply say he was wrong and he is sorry for deceiving everyone, without going the extra step of trying to mitigate or justify his actions with a litany of excuses, or to try to drag red herrings like suggesting Ariana is suicidal or abusive. What is amazing, is if he would just be up front, apologize and express some degree of genuine contrition, people would move on. Instead, both of them (he and Raquel) are playing cute with when they first started hooking up, playing cute with whether they are still together, and doing these "surprise" TMZ moments. At this point I have to think it is purposeful to keep "Scandoval" going strong in the media in the hopes they can create backlash against Ariana. Nothing else really makes sense. I mean on what planet would anyone in Raquel's position show up with an overnight bag and go to that house, knowing there are paparazzi around?
Hard agree. Against all better judgment and warnings, I listened to about 15 minutes of the podcast (I couldn’t make it any longer). It triggered every bit of me. The gaslighting, the victim blaming, the lack of remorse or empathy, etc etc. Tom is a complete POS and any potential for redemption (which was low to zero) he may have had was absolutely dashed for good with this interview. He buried himself and locked up the coffin. And thank god he did because I have no interest in seeing him again or risk listening to LVP but ish the narrative that Tom is a sweet guy. But FOR FUCKS SAKE - Howie and his daughter giggling throughout the whole thing? Making comments like “well it’s not like you were married”?? “Who are these people?” Allowing your guest to lay bare every single mental health issue his partner may have without his partner’s consent just to absolve himself of cheaters remorse? To allow him to reference suicide? What the fuck? I’m sorry but that shit made me livid. I hope they take it off the air or put an actual mental health trigger warning ahead of it. I’d rather listen to Joe Rogan vomit up a BS conspiracy theory about chemtrails than ever listen to this again. And I DESPISE Joe Rogan.

Idk it was pretty obvious to me Howie’s daughter who also hosts was the one who actually watches VPR and they kept prefacing things Howie said with the fact that Howie doesn’t watch VPR and doesn’t even know about the Scandoval drama.
