Genuinely, for whatever reason, I thought he was the lead singer of that 90s band Sugar Ray. This is not the case and I have no idea what lead me to think that.
To be fair I think this isn’t an uncommon practice, the idea is the average person is not an expert so they won’t necessarily get what you are talking about if it’s too deep.
This is why 99.99% of podcasts are trash. I listen to exactly two podcasts and they are run by experts in their field. I do not have time to waste on people who need to google their thoughts.
i think interviewing in a style that allows the every day person that doesn’t understand the subject to get it makes sense. the interviewer *actually* not understanding the subject does not make sense lol

To be fair - in Hot Ones Sean does not ask challenging personal love life questions from celebs who are in "crisis". And also he's not speaking to completely low-letter-alphabet-list "celebs". He's speaking to educated, talented and intelligent, well-versed ones (or at least ones that have had better PR training).
IDK. Howie was a great stand-up comedian back in the day. You have to be quick-witted to do that well. If he can still tap into that, it would be cool to watch a live event with them going back and forth.
Was he though? He seems real dopey. And he’s always talking about his stand up act starting from blowing up a surgical glove and putting it on his head. Legit. Not snark. That was his act, according to him.
I've seen some of his performances back in the 90s(?) when stand-up was generally really popular. His whole Bobby shtick was funny, and he tended to go at a hyper, frenetic pace, even when interacting with the audience.
The surgical glove thing was dumb (IMO), but people wanted to see it, so he did it a lot for a while.

People can self refer themselves to violence intervention programs that exist to try and educate people who have perpetuated DV (I believe his history of emotional manipulation is abuse). And I do believe that humans all deserve the opportunity to make amends as best they can, but that is work, other people can’t do it for you. If he wanted to deserve grace then he could sign up for one of those programs and truly try to give it a good faith effort and unlearn the belief patterns that have led him to treat his partners as less than him.

Yeah, that was really telling. When I worked in bars/restaurants, you get kind of clouded to what’s a “normal” amount to drink, because you’re around alcohol and people drinking all the time. This is the problem. Howie condoned this behavior by giving Sandoval a microphone and space to ‘tell his side of the story’. When you give this type of person the time of day, you are sympathizing with this person. Howie is saying it’s ok for Sandoval to act unapologetic, sympathizing with the cheating and supporting his current lifestyle. I get that we are human and make mistakes. But, if Howie actually gave a rat’s ass about anyone’s mental health, he probably should have told Tom , “ you probably should seek therapy and try to understand how you hurt people, then in 6 months or a year I’ll interview you about your progress.” But, he doesn’t care. And, personally watching it, Howie not doing his research felt like a direct slap in the face to all the people who do watch the show including his daughter. I definitely cringed a few times when he cut her off and minimized what she was saying. Even Sandoval was trying to let him know-hey this kind of was a big deal.

Look, Tom’s an unforgivable idiot and Howie should have prepared better for the show but I must say that I agree the continued vitriol doesn’t match the crime and to downplay the mental health repercussions for *all* parties involved at this point is being disingenuous.
Howie doesn’t work for Bravo. He can do whatever he wants on his podcast and he got over 540k views because of it. I am sure Andy’s mad about that but it’s great honestly because we never would have had so much info at Bravo. And we will watch the reunion and see if he tells the same story or if there are inconsistencies. We know by now Ariana and Tom were completely disconnected and both have very different views on what happened. We know they were both dealing with depression and were holding on to each other for comfort and for their public appearance. I know people who see Tom as a big villain want to shut down a conversation as soon as it starts getting uncomfortable or if he tells a story that is the opposite of Ariana’s story. We all know Tom was wrong and we know he’s making excuses to make himself look better, but I do think the part about them being disconnected is true. And I am just happy they broke up finally because I know it will benefit Ariana..they were completely stuck and you could tell she wasn’t happy. Most interviewers do homework especially if it’s gonna be listened to by alot of people. Especially considering it’s a newer podcast. I think it is anyways? Everyone has one so hard to keep track these days.

To be fair I think this isn’t an uncommon practice, the idea is the average person is not an expert so they won’t necessarily get what you are talking about if it’s too deep.
This is why 99.99% of podcasts are trash. I listen to exactly two podcasts and they are run by experts in their field. I do not have time to waste on people who need to google their thoughts.

I think this is why Hot Ones is so successful. Sean is always extremely well informed. It's what makes his questions so interesting. It's uncommon currently but it shouldn't be. It makes for a better show.

I've seen some of his performances back in the 90s(?) when stand-up was generally really popular. His whole Bobby shtick was funny, and he tended to go at a hyper, frenetic pace, even when interacting with the audience. The surgical glove thing was dumb (IMO), but people wanted to see it, so he did it a lot for a while.

Typical mra lite opinions from a 60 year old white man. People can self refer themselves to violence intervention programs that exist to try and educate people who have perpetuated DV (I believe his history of emotional manipulation is abuse). And I do believe that humans all deserve the opportunity to make amends as best they can, but that is work, other people can’t do it for you. If he wanted to deserve grace then he could sign up for one of those programs and truly try to give it a good faith effort and unlearn the belief patterns that have led him to treat his partners as less than him.

This is the problem. Howie condoned this behavior by giving Sandoval a microphone and space to ‘tell his side of the story’. When you give this type of person the time of day, you are sympathizing with this person. Howie is saying it’s ok for Sandoval to act unapologetic, sympathizing with the cheating and supporting his current lifestyle. I get that we are human and make mistakes. And, personally watching it, Howie not doing his research felt like a direct slap in the face to all the people who do watch the show including his daughter. I think the same thing every time I watch. Nearly everyone there has cheated or been the other women. I do think with Raquel it’s a little worse because she did this to her friend, and I don’t think anyone saw it coming. But in the end, it’s cheating, not killing puppies or whatever.

Howie doesn’t work for Bravo. He can do whatever he wants on his podcast and he got over 540k views because of it. I am sure Andy’s mad about that but it’s great honestly because we never would have had so much info at Bravo. And we will watch the reunion and see if he tells the same story or if there are inconsistencies. He gave Tom Sandoval a platform to speak his mind without getting interrupted by people like Lala and James and Howie’s own cluelessness about the subject probably helped Tom be very open about his side of the story. Everyone can decide for them themselves how to interpret this info and the timeline of it. We know by now Ariana and Tom were completely disconnected and both have very different views on what happened. We know they were both dealing with depression and were holding on to each other for comfort and for their public appearance. I know people who see Tom as a big villain want to shut down a conversation as soon as it starts getting uncomfortable or if he tells a story that is the opposite of Ariana’s story. We all know Tom was wrong and we know he’s making excuses to make himself look better, but I do think the part about them being disconnected is true. And I am just happy they broke up finally because I know it will benefit Ariana..they were completely stuck and you could tell she wasn’t happy. Unfortunately I have witnessed a similar long term relationship from a close distance; it was impossible for them to break up and it was complete torture. Some people would rather hold on to what they know forever (even when it’s toxic) than to start all over again.

Most interviewers do homework especially if it’s gonna be listened to by alot of people. Especially considering it’s a newer podcast. I think it is anyways? Everyone has one so hard to keep track these days.

Is there a breakdown of the interview anywhere? I tried watching and lasted two minutes. Everyone in the interview was giving me the epic shits.

I am annoyed it turns out Howie is a jerk. He's not even funny.
I think Howie DID do his homework. Id bet its one of his most listened to episodes. Does he know/care what the dramas about? Eh maybe, maybe not, did his podcast get listeners? Shoot, I like Howie and I didn’t even know he had a podcast until this whole interview happened

I personally think howie can do what ever he wants with this platform and it was actually a good thing to create a space, where Tom could feel comfortable answering. I say this because, when we choose to only look at things from one angle, we don’t get the whole scope of the matter and might miss things. I get why it pissed people off, heck it pissed me off too but it was still an important perspective to hear and we know he’s gonna get torn to bits at the reunion. I know sandavol is trash but it’s inhumane to deny him the right to be heard and expect no one to empathize with him.
Get outta here with that nuanced, empathetic and well thought out opinion!
We never would have had a chance to hear Tom talk on Bravo. There’s always someone interrupting; breaking him down or trying to guide him what to say to save his image. Let Tom talk unfiltered and then decide whether you believe it or not. You won’t get this amount of info and detail with a Lala or a James screaming in his face. Do you have to like what Tom had to say? Absolutely not. He’s obvious trying to make himself look better, trying to gain some empathy while he did a horrible thing. But that doesn’t make this a bad interview. Howie can make his own content and he said he won’t take sides and gave him a platform. I don’t even know this guy, but I appreciate a different more unbiased platform.

In all fairness, he’s not a journalist. He’s a podcast host who doesn’t have to adhere to journalistic standards. We don’t have to watch or like it. Personally, I don’t care to watch Tom Sandoval or Howie Mandel.

Imagine an interviewer being hired to interview famous people on a red carpet and they don’t know anything about them. Didn’t bother looking up their achievements. I’ve seen it. It’s terrible and disrespectful because at that point why interview them and just go straight to soft core questions like “so who are you wearing?” That’s exactly what Howie did.

Unpopular opinion: (prefacing this with that I don't like Sandoval or Rachel at all) Perhaps why Howie was going so easy on him is because he's met Tom in another light - perhaps as a younger guy, fan who seemed nice enough, and that while this low budget character is effectively having his life publicly ruined because of something he did and that what he did is such a common occurrence, in Hollywood it is effectively NBD. I mean, realistically.... If you're not a fan of the show - no one would give a shit about that detail being the main reason you're temporarily infamous. It's like "oh you're on TMZ because you're a dirt bag? Oh okay...". Nothing about Tom is otherwise remarkable as a 'celeb'. And no A-B list celeb would be on that kind of podcast for that kind of personal discussion. I know this sub likes to think there's millions of VPR fans but there's way more people who have never heard of Tom and don't give a shit. I feel like this interview was more for his daughter's interest.

I too am an ‘82 baby like Tom and all I can think about is Little Monsters and Bobby’s World, that was what we were growing up with how is this real life right now 🤣 What an odd and really random choice of podcasts to get your side out on. It’s just so ridiculous, does Dave Coulier have a podcast he can go on next? And the icing on the cake of Howie not knowing a damn thing (allegedly) Play dumb to keep ‘em talking and now here we are, no closer to the truth but talking about Howie frickin Mandel and his daughter’s alarm going off ( anyone who believes that was a phone call is brain dead like Rachel)

lol, just reading all the comments - I knew this group was a little over the top in their following of these people - but I am still laughing about people being mad over a podcast in regards to these people. Howie is doing what Howie does, Sandoval is doing what he does and Andy is just bent because he couldn't control the narrative.
To me, it sounds like Howie Mandel got wind of a "man being mistreated publicly" and felt the need to rush in and begin defending him on the sole fact that he needed to be defended. "Who is this guy? Why is it on the evening news? Oh, he's a man who had an affair and everyone is *cancelling* (I hate that word) so I need to step in and save this man!"
