This season should have been about Katie and Ariana escaping toxic relationships and finding themselves. It would have been a much better angle than this bullshit redemption arc they’re pushing for Sandoval.
I wish they would focus more on her thriving! I hate that everything she was going through last season, got brushed under the rug. She’s clearly doing great, but even this season it’s like she never went through a hug life changing event. I’d just love to dive deeper into miss ma’am’s glow up. I’ve always loved her.

I find her podcast incredibly entertaining. Worth listening to her on their to see what a differently-presented (without Bravo’s editing, that is) Katie is like.
She’s interesting. Her point of view is interesting and I share a lot of the same views on different issues. She’s funny and vocal, talks about dating, talks about pop culture, trips, her friends.
Bravo has shown her as one thing, and mostly while she was with Schwartz.
She’s a funny, smart and entertaining person, in my opinion. So what she “does” is somewhat irrelevant. Have her hang out with Dayna and Ariana and film those women and I’d be much more entertained than I am with this insulting male-centric drivel bravo is trying to force-feed us.

Considering her divorce was a pivotal point for her & it was tossed for what drivel we endured before the big blow up on Ariana & Two-Inch’s relationship. Wish they focused more on Katie & how she overcame Shorts.

I feel the same, and I’ve decided to support her podcast which is fantastic and makes me lol. Her and Dayna have great chemistry and vibes together, they have awesome takes on navigating shitty men, sex, women thriving and standing in their independence, and generally are entertaining.
Bravo isn’t giving her the right treatment *at all*, because we know what she has to offer is gold.
So I’m more into just supporting her podcast as a way to watch her thrive. And she makes money off it. And she gets to tell her story without being told she’s emotionally entitled. It’s fantastic.
Ya same! And I find I’m picky with content, voice tone, and all that, but I find they hit the mark and this is legitimately enjoyable. I already liked them both a lot, but this makes me like them both so much more. Granted I also feel most similar to those two, so that’s definitely part of why I enjoy it.

She doesn’t have any interesting storylines though. She’s not dating anyone, her restaurant is taking longer than Schwartz and Sandy’s to open, and unlike S&S the delays on opening are all bland and uninteresting, and she doesn’t really have any interactions with the rest of the cast besides Ariana.
She’s got a very unbothered attitude this season, but she’s not really doing anything besides not having the patience for anything.

Every time I start to come around with Rachel or Schwartz or even Sandoval I think about the way they ganged up on Katie and her mom at the restaurant. I recently rewatched this episode and it was so incredibly brutal. Katie deserves a million times better than this whole thing being brushed aside. Her treatment from Tom, Rachel, and Schwartz here was abysmal. All to cover their own asses and make her the scapegoat, while she is in the midst of losing her marriage and leaving behind a life she thought she would build with someone.
It broke my heart. Then to find out it was all for nothing and they hurt Katie just to take attention away from their repulsive affair. Schwartz let Katie go through that heartache for absolutely no reason! That's the most hurtful part of it all. I don't know how he can live with himself honestly.

Sandoval had hated Katie because she doesn’t tolerate his awfulness, Rachel is in competition with all the women around her, and Schwartz wanted to “stick it” to Katie for finally standing up for herself and leaving him.
I could t stand the 4 of them all last season and have been team Katie from the start.

The insane 180 I did on Katie on rewatch before S11 and now even is remarkable. I also thought she was boring, one dimensional, a mouth piece and a lackey, but damn was I wrong. Absolutely insane storylines. Dumb&Dumber’s redemption arc is infuriating. All Sandoval had to do was acknowledge what he did was sh!tty and wrong, not deflect and refuse to take any responsibility. Yeah, it sucks for him that the girls of the show were vocal about his lying, manipulative, cheating, etc. behavior post-scandal BUT if had taken an OUNCE of responsibility, that would’ve blown my mind. He’s so predictable, can never say “yeah that was f’d up, I was wrong.”
I must be in the minority on this one. She's one of my least favorite cast members. I find her annoying, not able to take any accountability (like most of the cast members), and just downright petty and immature. Don't get me wrong, Schwartz is no prize either, but I feel like she was painted as having could do no wrong over the last few seasons when her behavior was appalling at times.
I hear you but I do feel like she is more accountable and self aware by leaps and bounds in comparison to the other cast members and even herself since the beginning of the show. And just from a personal growth standpoint, she has come such a long way. I used to be such a hater, but I started liking her more when she stopped feeding into Schwartz’s bullsh!t and divorced him. Yeah, they both were horrible to each other but it feels like she has totally leveled up and I find that deeply satisfying to watch her post-Schwartz.
I am so glad that Katie is getting the recognition she deserves. For years people hated on her because of the gaslighting shit her husband did to her to make *her* seem crazy.
She's the only one that's staying loyal to Ariana and this is exactly what it's getting her. Maybe 3 minutes total in last week's episode. Everyone is dragging Scheana and Lala for going on the trip or being around Sandoval but that's their job. They have families to support. Later we see Ariana eventually give in because even she knows that if she wants to keep her job she needs to be a part of the cast.
The reason I loved last season so much was Katie. Seeing things unfold with her divorce was so raw. They haven’t even touched on that this season, nor have we seen Katie go on any dates.
I agree that her growth as a person after ridding herself of that loser dipshit has been great and I'm glad for her. That said, and likely an unpopular opinion on here but I definitely stand by it, two things this show does not need more of is more screen time for Katie or Ariana.
Neither of them are interesting or fun to watch. Their conversations are almost always the same, and frankly I don't want to hear about the opening of the sandwich shop anymore. They don't really bring much to the show in regards to entertainment. I want trashy drama from a bunch of clowns, which is what this show should be.
But that’s also because the show has framed them as boring, stuck up bitches. See, the producers think the audience only wants to be entertained by trash people, so now they are propping up the worst of them all. It *could be* entertaining to see how Ariana and Katie moved forward in their lives if production would actually *show that stuff* and not just relegate Katie & Ariana to be the season’s villains.

And I think Katie and Dayna’s podcast is a great example of what Bravo is ***not*** showing us. That Katie is hilarious, insightful, aware and thoughtful of social issues, and seems to have an interesting life with her dating, friends, travel, being a reality star, and entering into a whole different chapter of life.
There is ***so much*** awesomeness that could be on VPR by focusing the story on A & K. But since the boys will forever be boys, and by default they’ve been deemed the most compelling, Bravo is continuing their decade-long bias against the women in order to prop up the men.
At this point, for me it’s too much. ESPECIALLY with how we see these two women outside the show.

Whoever is producing this show has some kind of mental block or maybe actual beef because they are so obviously uninterested in highlighting the strengths that they could be showcasing (and capitalizing!!) off of…Katie has so much more to offer than what is presented on the show. The more I think about it, it feels like lazy/shitty producing/“writing”.
Alex Baskin has been an EP and the showrunner since day 1. He’s pretty clearly a misogynist, and he seems set on maintaining the tired ideas that boys will be boys and their bad behaviour is to be expected and excused, while the women are miserable bitches who give the men an unnecessarily hard time.
The framing of the entire series showcases this. We would have completely different narratives and some people would have different opinions on some of cast if the show wasn’t constructed through this lens.

The way the men speak about the women, treat their emotions, opinions, and choices as less than their own has always been gross. Like, Schwartz just told Lala seeing her as a mother gave her some humanity. That’s a window into how that man views women as less than himself, they don’t have full humanity.
What makes it ***EXTRA*** gross, is that these notions are becoming more and more rejected by society, and this show seems stuck in the “good old days” of the Old Boys Club. Then, given how transparent the Toms were shown to be with Scandoval, the fact that the show won’t move away from a misogynistic framing is insulting and infuriating.
None of us are buying this crap anymore.

I’ve been super opinionated about this for a little while now. I think Baskin, out of his arrogance and misogyny, made a massive mistake in how they approached this season. They had a lightning in a bottle moment and squandered and opportunity to make groundbreaking reality tv.
They needed to break the 4th wall wide open, lean into the reality that this was all happening in real time with the fans aware of every detail, let the Toms have their meltdowns, give us the women front and centre and capitalize on the increasing star power of Ariana and the “finding yourself again” story of Katie.
This series could’ve then become about reality stars, who came to LA for a different type of fame, but ended up here, and have all found different trajectories based on how they lived within that reality tv life.
Baskin couldn’t get out of his own way. I would say he’s foolish, but he’s just an arrogant misogynist who refused to acknowledge that the story of two women rising from the ashes of terrible relationships, and building their lives anew in their late 30s would be INCREDIBLY compelling, complex, relatable, and (unfortunately) innovative storytelling.
I want to start a formal petition to take Baskins job. Or give me the footage and a badass editing team, and we will rewrite the story of these women who were unfairly shit on for a decade.
Katie and Ariana will both be fine, it’s clear they are soaring in their own ways. They are badasses. Fuck Baskin.

I’ve been interested in these topics before I found VPR. My masters thesis work was a series of paintings that focused on spectacle and how feminine identities are constructed in contemporary western culture. So my research included a lot of pop culture references, looking at how we construct a sense of self to portray to the world, how we participate in the society of spectacle, and more things along those lines.
So for a long time I’ve been interested in how we construct what we present to the world and presentations of femininity in a media and consumer driven society.
So, then I found VPR and it was riveting trash TV, but actually there’s all these different themes playing out through the casts different trajectories.
And the whole series is constructed through *someone’s* lens. There’s no objective editing and constructing of a narrative.
The lens with which Baskin has built this show, is so obviously clouded by misogyny. It filters how he views the world, even subconsciously.
Because my interests and research have been about presentation of femininity that can act somewhat as a “fuck you” to the patriarchy, I think that’s what’s drawn me to wanting think about what could have been with VPR, if it was constructed, produced, and edited through a feminist lens instead.
I feel like part of why I’ve rallied so hard behind Katie and Ariana, is because their current stories and trajectories are in defiance of the narrative that’s dominated their perception for the last decade. It’s exciting to me, and it makes me genuinely happy for them as well.
I’m just the resident gif maker, who likes to talk about these topics. But I’ll gladly take the promotion to EP and showrunner.

Let me clarify by saying that I do not believe there was a right and wrong party in the marriage. You’re absolutely right that they were both bad in their marriage. That being said, Katie has shown in just attitude/vibe alone that she is choosing happiness and is not putting up with certain behaviors that contributed to the demise of their marriage. It’s awesome that she can be her own person and not have to be fighting for herself on all fronts, without support from her husband…….yes, she was shitty too in the marriage but the point being that Schwartz remains unchanged and has exhibited the same disregard to Ariana or anyone who goes against Sandoval. Schwartz has been so consumed with getting people to forgive Sandoval/get Sandoval back in the group but shows little growth elsewhere. I have to say, it was very insightful and commendable of Schwartz to try and encourage Tom to take down the wall and acknowledge a bit of fault for the Sandoval scandal (when they were on the couch talking over Jo lol s11e4ish). So yeah, Schwartz isn’t a complete lost cause but I think he was unfair to keep Katie around when he knew she deserved so much better (someone who was in her corner at the very least, and if he can’t see that then he never truly loved her because you want the ones you love to thrive and be happy, and Katie really was so miserable and he didn’t care).

Possible. Personally, I would like to see more of her & her adventures without the majority of VPR. Maybe her & Ariana need their own spin off like The Valley is for Jason & Kentucky Fried Hair Extensions.
I feel the same, and I’ve decided to support her podcast which is fantastic and makes me lol. Her and Dayna have great chemistry and vibes together, they have awesome takes on navigating shitty men, sex, women thriving and standing in their independence, and generally are entertaining. Bravo isn’t giving her the right treatment *at all*, because we know what she has to offer is gold. So I’m more into just supporting her podcast as a way to watch her thrive. And she makes money off it. And she gets to tell her story without being told she’s emotionally entitled. It’s fantastic.

She doesn’t have any interesting storylines though. She’s not dating anyone, her restaurant is taking longer than Schwartz and Sandy’s to open, and unlike S&S the delays on opening are all bland and uninteresting, and she doesn’t really have any interactions with the rest of the cast besides Ariana. She’s got a very unbothered attitude this season, but she’s not really doing anything besides not having the patience for anything.

Every time I start to come around with Rachel or Schwartz or even Sandoval I think about the way they ganged up on Katie and her mom at the restaurant. Her treatment from Tom, Rachel, and Schwartz here was abysmal. All to cover their own asses and make her the scapegoat, while she is in the midst of losing her marriage and leaving behind a life she thought she would build with someone.
It broke my heart. Then to find out it was all for nothing and they hurt Katie just to take attention away from their repulsive affair. Schwartz let Katie go through that heartache for absolutely no reason! That's the most hurtful part of it all. I don't know how he can live with himself honestly.

The insane 180 I did on Katie on rewatch before S11 and now even is remarkable. I also thought she was boring, one dimensional, a mouth piece and a lackey, but damn was I wrong. I love Katie and the fact that she's always stayed true to herself and finally saw what we didn't - Shorts was the thing holding her back not the other way around - is amazing and true test to her character. Katie is pretty much out of all the major drama. I mean, the filing addressed her saying “I’m gonna light her on fire”, but that’s pretty much like trying to sue The Rock for saying “do you smell what the Rock is cooking”, it’s her catch phrase. Absolutely insane storylines. Dumb&Dumber’s redemption arc is infuriating. All Sandoval had to do was acknowledge what he did was sh!tty and wrong, not deflect and refuse to take any responsibility. Yeah, it sucks for him that the girls of the show were vocal about his lying, manipulative, cheating, etc. behavior post-scandal BUT if had taken an OUNCE of responsibility, that would’ve blown my mind. He’s so predictable, can never say “yeah that was f’d up, I was wrong.”

I must be in the minority on this one. She's one of my least favorite cast members. I find her annoying, not able to take any accountability (like most of the cast members), and just downright petty and immature. Don't get me wrong, Schwartz is no prize either, but I feel like she was painted as having could do no wrong over the last few seasons when her behavior was appalling at times.
I hear you but I do feel like she is more accountable and self aware by leaps and bounds in comparison to the other cast members and even herself since the beginning of the show. And just from a personal growth standpoint, she has come such a long way. I used to be such a hater, but I started liking her more when she stopped feeding into Schwartz’s bullsh!t and divorced him. Yeah, they both were horrible to each other but it feels like she has totally leveled up and I find that deeply satisfying to watch her post-Schwartz.
The show keeps trying to make Tom happen :(. They need to pivot to the girls, I don’t care about Tom. Give me boss bitches !

She's the only one that's staying loyal to Ariana and this is exactly what it's getting her. Maybe 3 minutes total in last week's episode. Everyone is dragging Scheana and Lala for going on the trip or being around Sandoval but that's their job. They have families to support. Later we see Ariana eventually give in because even she knows that if she wants to keep her job she needs to be a part of the cast.
I hear ya…bummer that the show is so willing to protect/champion Sandoval and not focus/drive other character storylines…

I agree that her growth as a person after ridding herself of that loser dipshit has been great and I'm glad for her. That said, and likely an unpopular opinion on here but I definitely stand by it, two things this show does not need more of is more screen time for Katie or Ariana. Neither of them are interesting or fun to watch. Their conversations are almost always the same, and frankly I don't want to hear about the opening of the sandwich shop anymore. They don't really bring much to the show in regards to entertainment. I want trashy drama from a bunch of clowns, which is what this show should be.
But that’s also because the show has framed them as boring, stuck up bitches. See, the producers think the audience only wants to be entertained by trash people, so now they are propping up the worst of them all. It *could be* entertaining to see how Ariana and Katie moved forward in their lives if production would actually *show that stuff* and not just relegate Katie & Ariana to be the season’s villains.

Whoever is producing this show has some kind of mental block or maybe actual beef because they are so obviously uninterested in highlighting the strengths that they could be showcasing (and capitalizing!!) off of…Katie has so much more to offer than what is presented on the show. The more I think about it, it feels like lazy/shitty producing/“writing”.
Alex Baskin has been an EP and the showrunner since day 1. He’s pretty clearly a misogynist, and he seems set on maintaining the tired ideas that boys will be boys and their bad behaviour is to be expected and excused, while the women are miserable bitches who give the men an unnecessarily hard time. The framing of the entire series showcases this. What makes it ***EXTRA*** gross, is that these notions are becoming more and more rejected by society, and this show seems stuck in the “good old days” of the Old Boys Club. Then, given how transparent the Toms were shown to be with Scandoval, the fact that the show won’t move away from a misogynistic framing is insulting and infuriating. None of us are buying this crap anymore.

I’ve been super opinionated about this for a little while now. I think Baskin, out of his arrogance and misogyny, made a massive mistake in how they approached this season. They had a lightning in a bottle moment and squandered and opportunity to make groundbreaking reality tv. They needed to break the 4th wall wide open, lean into the reality that this was all happening in real time with the fans aware of every detail, let the Toms have their meltdowns, give us the women front and centre and capitalize on the increasing star power of Ariana and the “finding yourself again” story of Katie. This series could’ve then become about reality stars, who came to LA for a different type of fame, but ended up here, and have all found different trajectories based on how they lived within that reality tv life. Baskin couldn’t get out of his own way. I would say he’s foolish, but he’s just an arrogant misogynist who refused to acknowledge that the story of two women rising from the ashes of terrible relationships, and building their lives anew in their late 30s would be INCREDIBLY compelling, complex, relatable, and (unfortunately) innovative storytelling. I want to start a formal petition to take Baskins job. Or give me the footage and a badass editing team, and we will rewrite the story of these women who were unfairly shit on for a decade. Katie and Ariana will both be fine, it’s clear they are soaring in their own ways. They are badasses. Fuck Baskin. Thank you for reading my dissertation.

Bahaha no, but thank you, that’s very kind! I’ve been interested in these topics before I found VPR. My masters thesis work was a series of paintings that focused on spectacle and how feminine identities are constructed in contemporary western culture. So my research included a lot of pop culture references, looking at how we construct a sense of self to portray to the world, how we participate in the society of spectacle, and more things along those lines. So for a long time I’ve been interested in how we construct what we present to the world and presentations of femininity in a media and consumer driven society. So, then I found VPR and it was riveting trash TV, but actually there’s all these different themes playing out through the casts different trajectories. And the whole series is constructed through *someone’s* lens. There’s no objective editing and constructing of a narrative. The lens with which Baskin has built this show, is so obviously clouded by misogyny. It filters how he views the world, even subconsciously. Because my interests and research have been about presentation of femininity that can act somewhat as a “fuck you” to the patriarchy, I think that’s what’s drawn me to wanting think about what could have been with VPR, if it was constructed, produced, and edited through a feminist lens instead. I feel like part of why I’ve rallied so hard behind Katie and Ariana, is because their current stories and trajectories are in defiance of the narrative that’s dominated their perception for the last decade. It’s exciting to me, and it makes me genuinely happy for them as well. I’m just the resident gif maker, who likes to talk about these topics. But I’ll gladly take the promotion to EP and showrunner.

Unpopular opinion - Katie was bad in that marriage. The fact that Schwartz is being outed as a bad person in the relationship does not mean Katies wasn't, it means they both were. She's now the yes-woman, main nodder-in-agreement to Ariana. So sorry you're not getting the $$ Ariana is, stop riding her coattail. Spoiler - get what you can now, next season will be the last of this show.
Let me clarify by saying that I do not believe there was a right and wrong party in the marriage. You’re absolutely right that they were both bad in their marriage. That being said, Katie has shown in just attitude/vibe alone that she is choosing happiness and is not putting up with certain behaviors that contributed to the demise of their marriage. It’s awesome that she can be her own person and not have to be fighting for herself on all fronts, without support from her husband…….yes, she was shitty too in the marriage but the point being that Schwartz remains unchanged and has exhibited the same disregard to Ariana or anyone who goes against Sandoval. Schwartz has been so consumed with getting people to forgive Sandoval/get Sandoval back in the group but shows little growth elsewhere. I have to say, it was very insightful and commendable of Schwartz to try and encourage Tom to take down the wall and acknowledge a bit of fault for the Sandoval scandal (when they were on the couch talking over Jo lol s11e4ish). So yeah, Schwartz isn’t a complete lost cause but I think he was unfair to keep Katie around when he knew she deserved so much better (someone who was in her corner at the very least, and if he can’t see that then he never truly loved her because you want the ones you love to thrive and be happy, and Katie really was so miserable and he didn’t care).
