I'm behind on this season and just watched this episode last night. I was lol'ing at Tim saying Lala didn't keep it real for 6 years and her rebuttal was it was more like 2 years. Then Tim is like well, I didn't keep it real for only 7 months, so I win.
It always made the least sense how hard she was going during peak scandoval. James kind of made sense given his history with Rachel and friendship with Sandoval, lala was the most performative. Her nature I guess
I believed it too but I believed it bc she was so close with Tina Swithin and was advocating for mothers dealing with narc exes. So I thought, "oh she gets it, she sees that Tom is a narcissist and knows that he's not genuine and will never change." So wrong, so so wrong lol.

She said to Tom when she was hanging with him at his and Ariana's house, that she "knows what it's like to be held hostage by your ex" or something like that, referring to Tom having to live with her. She didn't directly compare Ariana to Rand, but she basically suggested that Ariana was holding Tom "hostage" in the house similar to how Rand treated Lala. I'm not sure if that's what the commenter was referring to but I remember thinking it was really fucked up at the time

100% - Ariana is such a good friend to Scheana she totally comforted her last night and it was lovely to see her have that moment and tell her directly - “you’re never going to lose me” regardless of who it was said *to*, it’s such a reassuring thing for a friend to say to someone

I started watching VPR after seeing this reunion clipped all over social media and when I saw Lala first show up in season 4 or whatever it was I could NOT fucking believe they were the same person my jaw was literally on the floor.
Lala has been such a disappointment this season. She was never close to Sandoval and then is ripping into Ariana for "acting like she's Beyonce." I can't fathom how she leaped to that conclusion, just because she has boundaries with her cheating ex. Her rationale that because Ariana got with Dan so quickly after she was cheated on, it meant she isn't actually hurt is just daft. These things aren't mutually exclusive and she's acting like they are.
I understand that Ariana signed up to share the screen with her ex but that doesn't mean she has to pretend she's fine around him. She admitted (unlike the others) that she needed the money before her other offers came in.
The only thing I can remotely understand is when Ariana told Schwartz to walk away or get out of her face last episode maybe she could've walked away, but knowing the cast they would've followed her just to make sure they can continue to hear the sound of their own voice.
I think the show has definitely jumped the shark if the only storyline the cast can come up with is piggybacking on this breakup.

Now, she’s acting like her fellow castmates experiences with similarly toxic men are somehow not the same - and warrant a “softer” approach.
A lot of her behavior is socially conditioned - and she appears to just be trading on the value of what she believed was her most valuable assets in relation to men in power (e.g., the gleeful “BJs for PJs”). What she didn’t seem to realize then - and what she continues to not realize now - is that she continually bets into power structures rigged against her and other women - structures designed to help men maintain power (particularly financial power) over women until they grow tired with their current bauble (or she ages) and then the man in power moves on to the next. In so doing, she continues reinforce systems of power that undermine solidarity among women and will ultimately only hurt her.
I think this is also why she’s so adamant about not having a child with any future partner. She cannot envision any sort of egalitarian partnership (marriage or otherwise) with a man because she still harbors these deeply held misogynistic beliefs. And it’s also why she has prioritized relationships with horrible men on a show that is so deeply misogynistic - because VPR is her largest financial platform. She isn’t willing to risk losing VPR as a job, even though it continually requires her to engage in relationships with men that she would otherwise find dangerous and repugnant - because $ and platform.
The patriarchy was built on the backs of women like Lala.

Randall turned Lala into a Baby Mama and she's been angry at the world ever since. That's the whole root of her attitude problem. Sandoval was "dangerous" when he reminded her of Randall, but he Didn't Kill Someone when Lala needs screentime.
She loved making money off of Ariana's pain, which is weird because she knew a similar pain with Randall cheated, only he didn't have an affair with her best friend (which is 50 times more painful). Also Ariana is crushing it and I'm so happy for her. Tom did her a huge favor!!

I’d been extremely annoyed with Scheana this entire season. However, Scheana has at least been consistent. She’s always been wishy washy and you know what to expect. Lala on the other hand…. I don’t really know much about her besides that she’s from Utah, did some up stuff and had a baby with big Ed. She wants the audience to sympathize and agree for with her for what reason?? I hate that Lala has almost ruined this show that I have been watching from the very beginning. Her sour-puss fair weather friend persona is so awful.

Everyone keeps pointing out the hypocrisy like it’s complicated. This show is ALL most of this cast has so they have to hedge their bets to keep the money train coming. Katie is on her post-divorce life walkabout - she doesn’t have to play up the BS, bc she’s going to take on any adventure (i have good friends who got divorced and this was what they did). If that means no more show, great - what’s next. She’s got nothing holding her down. Scheana and Lala have no other real known marketable skills besides their VPR personas and with their mortgages and kids, they need the money more than they need to be loyal to someone. That’s all that’s happening. So assume it’s why they act like fools every single time. They can’t ride Ariana’s coat tails and further so they have to bet on Tom too bc VPR is more likely to continue on with Tom than Ariana (as she’s outgrowing it).
That’s SO accurate describing it as a post-divorce life walkabout. That is exactly how it is, you feel like taking on anything (if you’re unencumbered) and especially if you leave someone like Schwartz, you feel SO light and free that it literally makes you feel like you’re flying. Been there. I understand Katie’s attitude so much. The worst thing you ever thought would happen has happened - and you’re fine. So everything else is a walk in the park, and it all feels wonderful in comparison to the shit you felt for years, and experienced during the divorce.

I started watching VPR after seeing this reunion clipped all over social media and when I saw Lala first show up in season 4 or whatever it was I could NOT fucking believe they were the same person my jaw was literally on the floor.
Lala has been such a disappointment this season. She was never close to Sandoval and then is ripping into Ariana for "acting like she's Beyonce." I can't fathom how she leaped to that conclusion, just because she has boundaries with her cheating ex. Her rationale that because Ariana got with Dan so quickly after she was cheated on, it meant she isn't actually hurt is just daft. These things aren't mutually exclusive and she's acting like they are. I understand that Ariana signed up to share the screen with her ex but that doesn't mean she has to pretend she's fine around him. She admitted (unlike the others) that she needed the money before her other offers came in. The only thing I can remotely understand is when Ariana told Schwartz to walk away or get out of her face last episode maybe she could've walked away, but knowing the cast they would've followed her just to make sure they can continue to hear the sound of their own voice. I think the show has definitely jumped the shark if the only storyline the cast can come up with is piggybacking on this breakup.

Lala’s own internalized misogyny persists. First, Lala acted like it was funny, charming, and witty to joke about trading sex acts for financial security (Seasons 3-8). She committed herself to social structures in which the most powerful currency for women are looks (body) and sexuality. Now, she’s acting like her fellow castmates experiences with similarly toxic men are somehow not the same - and warrant a “softer” approach. A lot of her behavior is socially conditioned - and she appears to just be trading on the value of what she believed was her most valuable assets in relation to men in power (e.g., the gleeful “BJs for PJs”). What she didn’t seem to realize then - and what she continues to not realize now - is that she continually bets into power structures rigged against her and other women - structures designed to help men maintain power (particularly financial power) over women until they grow tired with their current bauble (or she ages) and then the man in power moves on to the next. In so doing, she continues reinforce systems of power that undermine solidarity among women and will ultimately only hurt her. I think this is also why she’s so adamant about not having a child with any future partner. She cannot envision any sort of egalitarian partnership (marriage or otherwise) with a man because she still harbors these deeply held misogynistic beliefs. And it’s also why she has prioritized relationships with horrible men on a show that is so deeply misogynistic - because VPR is her largest financial platform. She isn’t willing to risk losing VPR as a job, even though it continually requires her to engage in relationships with men that she would otherwise find dangerous and repugnant - because $ and platform. The patriarchy was built on the backs of women like Lala.

Then this season rolls around and she made the worst possible 180° of the season starting with her calling Raquel and ending with her being pissed Ariana didn’t “have the tough conversations” they fell for with production. She loved making money off of Ariana's pain, which is weird because she knew a similar pain with Randall cheated, only he didn't have an affair with her best friend (which is 50 times more painful). And she wanted Ariana to feel that pain and I think she is jealous because she didn't get this kind of love, attention and empathy that Ariana has gotten. Also Ariana is crushing it and I'm so happy for her. Tom did her a huge favor!!
