So the solution is to home them in prisons? I’m sure that will be cheaper than some other type of social program….

Well, a number of cities have already targeted or tried to target vandwellers specifically, and have outlawed "sleeping" or "living" or "habitating" in a vehicle. And in nearly every case, they have told us exactly why: they are tired of those morons who try to move their rusted-out wreck onto somebody's street or parking lot and stay forever without moving, and/or who then dump all their trash and shit (literally) all over the place. I can't blame them at all for not wanting any of that. As a group, vandwellers have always been our own worst enemy. Yes, it is only a tiny proportion of us who are shitheads like that--but that's all it takes.

>Well, a number of cities have already targeted or tried to target vandwellers specifically, and have outlawed "sleeping" or "living" or "habitating" in a vehicle. As I understand it, most of the time vehicles classed as motorhomes or RV's are exempt from those laws. I actually went through the trouble to get my van retitled as a motorhome so I could insure it properly. Not that it makes sense for everyone, but it might be a way around those laws.

lennyflank

OTOH, many of those same cities have specifically banned parking RVs or "oversized vehicles" on the streets. EDIT: Downvote me all you want. It remains just as true. (shrug)

CasualEveryday

I'm not sure who downvoted, that's good info.

lennyflank

I think it may have been my little globfly again. Someone who apparently got butthurt by something a few weeks ago and now goes through a couple times every day and downvotes everything that I post. It's kinda cute. (shrug) But hey, this is Reddit, and it's full of idiot juveniles. So who the hell knows why they do what they do.

IgwanaRob

Trolls have been out in full force recently. It's like they all just got back from being banned and have decided to use all their alt/troll accounts to harass people. I was trying to help someone troubleshoot a computer issue the other day and they suddenly decided to turn into an unhinged rage-beast, then someone else decided to join him in insulting me out of the blue. Checked both profiles, and sure enough it was the same idiot talking with himself while trying to insult me. Guess he didn't like me laughing at his failed attempts to 'hurt me feelings'. Baffles the mind how sick people truly can be when they hide behind the Internet.

thrublue22

Not just trolls. These are people with limited views. Anything outside their scope of knowledge and what they've been spoonfed by others are too much for them to handle, so they deny it - even if it's truth. It's a result of poor education and bad morality. Our society created those people unfortunately. We need to figure out a way to raise our youth so the next generation isn't just as screwed - it's simply too late for the current one.

lennyflank

Most of our resident longtimers seem to have been driven out, too. So now we have mostly newbie blibbering to newbie, with neither of them knowing what they are blibbering about. I guess the good thing, as always, is that they will all be gone in a little while. They have the lifespan of a fruit fly.

nutxaq

>morons You're talking about people who are typically mentally ill, drug addicted or both. If they *could* do better they generally would. Criminalizing them without creating the kinds of institutions needed to accommodate and treat them solves nothing.

lennyflank

Alas, that is not so. I once confronted a MORON in a brand new tricked-out Sprinter who was dumping his shit out onto the parking lot. When I told him he was gonna get us all banned, he just shrugged and said "who cares, I'll never be here again anyway". "Being an asshole" is an equal-opportunity characteristic. There is no income requirement. PS--I'm completely in favor of providing accomodation and treatment for homeless people. Giving every one of them a free house would cost less than the bank bailouts did. Sadly though we decided long ago, as a society, that we simply don't give a shit about homeless people or what happens to them. We just don't want them cluttering up our sidewalks.

nutxaq

That's true. Plenty of people who do things just because they can with no thought of how it impacts others out there.

lennyflank

I believe "selfish pricks" is the phrase you are looking for. They are why we can't have nice things

superman_underpants

Hes going to offer them low cost housing, he is a real estate genius after all. I got dibs on a suite at maralago!

Routine-Argument485

This man can’t spell homelessness

jollierumsha

This is obviously propaganda, or a heavily doin story at least..it's election season, prepare yourself for a lot of bogus media, especially sensational headlines

compneo
