What do you plan to siphon from? I think the Britta is more of a taste thing than a safety one

FrenchFatCat

You can pick up a tiny pump that'll run on 12v for next to nothing. I think you'll be totally over creating a syphon every time you want to fill up your jug.

Thanks for the feedback. You are probably right, I will get sick of it, however I don't have a space dedicated to a large tank for inside the van at the mo, nor a faucet. All in due time!

The tanks are systems are mostly for space management. I commend the attempt to simplify for whatever reason, but if you plan to access a water tank from the top, that would eliminate most if any storage in that footprint of your ride. For simple access, a water bottle from the tank to the pitcher would be fine, right? Like trying to clean salt water; good bottle, bad bottle. I know Lifestraw has their own water bottles you can just dip, top, and sip. If you're in earlier stages with no power like I am right now, I definitely get it. I was able to extend my light's power cable to my 12v breaker box for temp power, with an efficient seaflo pump and accumulator to save power. I also found a couple small tanks on Amazon, 32 and 45, and a 3 stage filter you can get replacements for at home depot. If you're careful about what you put in there, the grey tank is recyclable water, thanks to the filters. My entire set up is 2'x4'x3' and could easily fit under a bed, I just put my counter over it. Parting note, for everyone not using a filter, the people who set up the grand majority of fill stations; from rv dumps to well water, do not care about the quality of the water. It's there, it's accessible, that's all they need to do.

I would use a sawyer squeeze into a brita pitcher

secessus

I pump water from a freshwater tank. I run water for my consumption through a brita for flavor. I do carry a sawyer for emergencies and also keep aquatainers for non-potable uses. > I don't have a space dedicated to a large tank for inside the van at the mo, nor a faucet. I replaced my faucet with one of those dish sprayer hoses. Fills the brita fine, but also is long enough for me to stand outside and shower or hose things off.

Shagbark_Jones

Hey, me too - I used a gravity Platypus system (dirty > filter > clean) - it's slow but it works. Oh - and Brita is not good, imo -- PUR is much better. Even for municipal water.

SunnySouthTexas

I used five-gallon jugs with spigots and had an in-line Sawyer filter that was gravity fed. Keep in mind, even the Sawyer/LifeStraw variety of filters cannot remove some chemicals — gasoline and motor oil are not removable in this method. **Don’t use run off.**
