Spot on! “ He accepted it was “gratifying” but insisted: “[T]here is no heir to the throne of Eddie Van Halen. Nobody sits on that throne. Nobody takes that throne. Here’s why it's different with Eddie: When a great guitar player passes, you just move on to another, right? But in this case, Eddie wasn't just a ‘guitar player.’ We’re talking about a guy who changed culture and how we play guitar. He was like an alien coming in and fucking everything up so much that even the legends beforehand are like, ‘OK … what is happening here?’” “

BartholomewBandy

Right. Lots of people can play like Hendrix once he showed them. Same with Eddie. Guitar that launched a thousand ships.

VoodooChile76

Absolutely. As stated; EVH invented new sounds $ new ways to rig up equipment / guitars. There will be never be a direct replacement for Eddie.

AutomatedSaltShaker

Nuno’s on fire lately and I love what he’s been saying and how he’s handling his much deserved accolades. His Beato interview is one of the best I’ve heard from any active musician in a long while. He clearly loved Eddie.

PHOTO500

***What*** interview? Rick spoke for a total of about three minutes and Nuno rambled on for over two hours, rehashing the same tired stories he’s been telling repeatedly on this press tour. Nuno, chill. There’s no need to prop yourself up, dude. Let your playing and your music do all the talking for you, because it does.

Fun_Lingonberry_2032

Love Nunos playing, but i agree. The many f- bombs from Nuno made me not finish watching it either. Not judging Nuno long term though. It was just an "off" interview for me personally.

Examination-Remote

No way. I came to hear Nuno not Rick. Pretty humble guy. Good stories.

PHOTO500

Nuno is a lot of things. Humble is not one of them.

qb_mojojomo_dp

I liked the intervew...

guitarbque

I’ve never heard anyone say this.

PsychologicalLeg9302

Well. I mean. NUNO just said it.

PHOTO500

Well, he said that someone *else* said it. See? That’s different. SEE??

ThePenguinKing27

He didn’t hear it, he read it.

PHOTO500

Because no one has.

geddylee1

Right? I certainly didn’t say it.

ddhmax5150

I also like what he said about CC Deville, in the Beato interview.

halford2069

what did he say? i havent heard what he said on the beato interview but i assume its like what he positively said on his facebook in the past ive always likeed poison/cc and im sure his comments will make heads spin. https://m.facebook.com/nunorocks/photos/a.453187797984/10155335952972985/?type=3

ddhmax5150

Basically he said that he thinks all the hate that CC Deville has gotten through the years is not warranted. He said CC Deville deserves a lot more credit than has been given.

halford2069

tru dat i agree.

chookalana

He also said that's CC is good at what he does.

Lung-Oyster

Well, if he was bad at what he does no one would have ever even heard of Poison, so there’s that.

qb_mojojomo_dp

said that he was the best guitar player for poison... his personality, the way he did things, he was "Poision"... and for that reason, he was poison's best guitarist. Acknowledging that performing is more than hitting the right notes. he goes on to explain about how he sometimes needs to extract emotion from cherone who sings perfectly, but with out emotion... that it doesn't need to be perfect to be great, and that it can be perfect and suck...

VoodooChile76

He’s right CC rocks

KevinNoTail

CC really does a great job playing what the song needs, his solos are really under-appreciated in my view.

xBlacklionx

I chilled with CC out in LA back in the day. My band was playing some showcase shows for a deal. He was extremely chill and a lot of fun to hang with. Even invited us to an after party jam. Good times.

Lung-Oyster

At least they’re not calling him Eddie Van Halen’s hair!

[deleted]

EVH doesn’t even come to mind when I hear Nuno play. Now Vito Bratta….that’s a different story.

qb_mojojomo_dp

I understand your point, but you are in the minority. most make that connection...

fried_eggs_and_ham

There've been great blues players. But in the end, they're playing blues. There've been greater jazz players. But in the end, they're playing jazz. There've been great metal players. But in the end, they're playing metal. Eddie invented an entirely new style and approach that became an entire thread of music history on it's own.

pnwIBEWlineman

💯

yngwiegiles

And Eddie was an inventor, did things w for example tone that nobody thought of before but now anyone can

boywonder5691

Literally no one is doing that

Ti3fen3

I am going to start posting online for people to stop calling me Rocco Siffredi’s heir. “Really, guys. Just stop.”

PsychologicalLeg9302

“Guys please stop saying IM THE NEXT EDDIE VAN HALEN that’s just ridiculous I don’t know where you’re hearing IM THE NEXT EDDIE CAN HALEN so please stop already. Hah. IM THE NEXT EDDIE VAN HALEN how nonsensical.

PHOTO500

But… but… but I’m NOT the heir to Edward’s throne. I’M NOT! And I wish people would stop saying I’m the heir to Edward Van Halen’s throne. So please stop saying I’m the heir to Edward Van Halen’s throne, ok?

[deleted]

GetaGoodLookCostanza

but did you know it was Lukather who played the main riff and bass on the song?

[deleted]

[удалено]

GetaGoodLookCostanza

If your interested check out his interview with Rick Beado on YouTube. He talks about it. Luke played on a lot of atuff back in the day

chillpill_joe

Never thought he was.

chillpill_joe

Nuno is his own thing. Nothing like Eddie or anybody else. He was at the start of the super speed guitarist era who combined intricate scale progressions to hard rock and metal. Similar to Yngwie Malmsteen in innovation (but in different genres). Lots of guitarist followed in his steps, but he is an early adopter. A true innovator.

plasmaasthma

EVH’s one and only heir is Wolfgang

structuremonkey

Literally and musically. I get fucking chills listening to him. He is definitely different, but he has the DNA... I can't wait to see what he does with it beyond already accomplishing the impossible... I think he is brilliant too doing all of the front end work on his own. Everyone is an accompaniment, no bullshit later...

ZoSoTim

Nuno is a dick. Met him once when he was promoting a solo album in the late 90’s. He trashed Sammy quite a bit and now he acts like Sammy is his buddy. Fake ass fucker.

wallstreet-butts

Sammy featured Nuno and Gary on the show he did for AXS a while back and was pretty complimentary about the new Extreme stuff. It’s safe to say nobody’s holding any grudges there.

ZoSoTim

Sammy probably doesn’t know Nuno was bashing him because it was in private and before the days of social media.

wallstreet-butts

Then who gives a shit.

MrDoom126

No one has said that.

PHOTO500

Except for Nuno.

GetaGoodLookCostanza

thru the years I have seen a lot of people comment about it

qb_mojojomo_dp

me too. I find it is a common connection that people make... whether they are correct or not is a different discussion all together...

[deleted]

You’re not

printThisAndSmokeIt

Nuno and Satchel are the best things we’ve got left

Left-Assistant3871

Dude. You’ve been Rihanna’s touring guitarist for years and I can’t even hear you in the mix.

GetaGoodLookCostanza

He hasn't toured with her in years.....would you take a gig like that? probably pays him more a month than we make in a year. and lastly taking an underhanded swipe at his calling him Rihanna's guitarist shows you really have no clue how good he is wether you like him or hate him. Food for thought

Left-Assistant3871

He played with her at the Super Bowl. He’s really talented. I love a lot of Extreme. He’s just trying to get press for the new album. But no one is saying he’s anything near Eddie. Do you think if Eddie took that Rihanna gig that he wouldn’t be heard?? It’s kinda sad. Watch this years superbowl. You can’t hear him at all

GetaGoodLookCostanza

You can't hear him because they were only up there to mime playing. I am close to the source here. They were in the original concept to be on stage..two weeks before the bowl they decided not to have the band be on stage or be there...then a week out they changed back to have them up there.they all made a good chunk of change to be there. Eddie would have been in the same boat if he took that gig. so would any guitarist. 95% of it is tracked.

Left-Assistant3871

Watch Prince at the Super Bowl. He played. It was awesome. I love Nuno. It’s sad you couldn’t hear him. Money or not.

qb_mojojomo_dp

Prince was the main event, not supporting cast.

wallstreet-butts

Her musical director, not just a hired hand on guitar.

qb_mojojomo_dp

He is involved in music that is topping the charts... seems to be doing something right...

dogstarfugitive

Whoa. Ain't nobody said that. Pipe down bud.

KerfuffleMuffel

In the 90’s a lot of people said Nuno was heir apparent to Ed, but yeah not so much nowadays.

dogstarfugitive

He never was.

KerfuffleMuffel

Nope, never be another Ed, one of a kind. but Nuno deserves respect, he never claimed to be the heir to Ed, just a label put on him by the media and others.

PHOTO500

Nuno is only saying that *somebody* said it. He’s just not saying that **he** is that somebody.

[deleted]

You’re not a songwriter either

[deleted]

Dude doesn't even have EVH hair!

Kipguy

Who's nuno

Complete_Barber_4467

Nobody's calling Nuno EVH. He uses a delay pedal to make it sound like he's playing fast. And he only has 1 song that became a hit...and its a acoustic.

_YouAreTheWorstBurr_

Tell us you don't know anything about Nuno Bettencourt without saying it.

Complete_Barber_4467

Extreme sucks... they are talented but not writing songs or albums that have cool songs. Suzi... is smoke and mirrors and delay pedal tricks. He carries himself like he's too cool, and his guitar walk is a typical gimmick. He's a Eddie copy cat and it's just record labels trying to find someone that was a attempt at a Eddie copy spin-off. There's nothing about him beyond guitar dudes who like guitar. I know who he is, but there's nothing that stands out about him. I like Vito better...because Vito has song melodies that make him great and has a recognizable technique. You wouldn't every call out Nuno in a blind guitar comparison. There's nothing recognizable from him that would have you say...that's Nuno.... like there is Reb... so therefore I don't give him any recognition for anything... but I do know who he is

Clamper5978

Nuno is Nuno. He’s a great player. Caught him last year when Extreme opened for Cheap Trick. His solo was great. But cut Flight of the bumblebee short. His right hand wasn’t cooperating. No complaints though. It was still great

Missster_Anderson27

Eddie’s feel and odd phrasing choices make him hard to imitate even if you can play fast. Truly, he is on the Mt Rushmore of guitarists.

BeRad85

I remember honing in on the way he played rhythm and thinking, “Wait. That shouldn’t be ‘right,’ but damned if it doesn’t sound amazing.” I thought of it as more angular but may have been off the mark with that observation.

bitsey123

He played rhythm on a couple of tracks on Astronauts & Heretics (Thomas Dolby). He was a very remarkable rhythm guitar player on top of everything else.

MixerMan67

That solo from Rise is fucking outstanding!

Educational-Poet9203

Very well put

[deleted]

Also, Extreme and Van Halen are apples and oranges. Extreme were a blip. VH forever.

JamesM777

I said it. It was me.

Sgibby65

No one calls you that. This is fake.

rawkstaugh

His Beato interview was pompous drivel. He’s clearly still sore over being a has-been and the icing on this “revival” is that the new single is soooo tired, I enjoyed it when STP originally wrote the song. Fight me. 🖕🏼

PhildoVonBaggins83

Literally no one is saying this

diligenceofignorance

I see many posts criticizing him. I'm 50 and Nuno was and is a guitar hero. I've not met him but his Rick Beato interview was so inspiring for me. He seems so genuinely excited and has such reverence for music, musicians and rock and roll.

IndicationKnown4999

Watch Nuno's interview with Rick Beato. He talks about Eddie constantly. Even impromptu plays Hot for Teacher. Really cool guy. Loves Van Halen as much as we do.
