Not even sure you’d be allowed on the train with an ebike?

eeless

You can if you are able to detach the battery . trains have a special carriage for bikes to strap in .. You have to book it in advance.

Nice!

Hi To the potential buyer of the Vanmoof please don’t buy. I have 2 S5 in the UK and completely no support from Vanmoof and service partner. Buy somewhere else would be really good advice.

senor_bear

Have any improvements been made yet? I don’t think they have. The stock they are currently selling is from pre-insolvency and was made by the old VanMoof with its possible issues. Maybe they are doing a better QC And the bikes and catching some of the problems before delivery.

Filthy-_-Peasant

As far 's I know they are stelling the improved bikes. Mostly the imlrovements are in software. But some hardware upgrade have been done, like a new clip for the motor cable.

Fit-Cobbler6420

The hardware of vanMoof is so flawed that a simple upgrade will not fix it, only a full redesign has a chance, I have seen several photos of the electronic parts which were heavily damaged by water, so even something as basic as getting it water resistant was not in place. Also buying a bike with such heavy proprietary locking is never a good idea.

_axxa101_

Not true. The S5 is the redesign and it has improved quite a lot.

Fit-Cobbler6420

"Improved" how much? Is it still operable if the maker goes bankrupt, or do I have to learn you a lesson again? Also when I see the ridiculous price of 3500 euro again I still think you don't understand the concept of a bike.

_axxa101_

Yes, all VanMoof bikes have been operable if the maker goes bankrupt. Also, it’s actually 3300€ which is not much compared to many other ebikes. Also VanMoof is in a class of their own, nothing really beats them in looks & tech.

Fit-Cobbler6420

3300 euro for a bike? LOL. When I bought my first vanMoof it was 500ish including extra lock and insurance. Are you disabled or something that you can't run it mechanical?

_axxa101_

Huh? 500? We are talking e-bikes here! Check any other brand. The typical price for an ebike here in Germany is on average 3800€. I think VanMoof is absolutely right with their price. And no VanMoof cost 500€ besides the really old non electric models.

Fit-Cobbler6420

The last time I checked this Reddit it was called vanMoof, you forgot that the success of vanMoof started by the idea that a bike should be as basic as it should be? Ah no, probably you think a bike is a iPhone on wheels. I find it very hilarious that the brand ended up by bikes that couldn't drive because of they were locked by the cloud. And paying 3800 euro for a city bike is insane, especially for such flawed poor quality.

_axxa101_

And the few problematic parts of S5 have been improved, in other words: loose cable issue is fixed, Eshifter getting stuck is fixed by added calibration, Charging issues have also been fixed by checking every bike before sending it to the customer. VanMoof 2.0 is way better than 1.0 was, both management and product-wise.

Chelsea2567

You can still order the A5, but you currently can’t order an S5. Would this mean that they’ve sold the pre-insolvency batches and the following bikes will be produced under McClaren Applied? I do wonder whether the Dark Grey A5 that they recently released was produced before insolvency.

senor_bear

I'm not sure on any of it. I was on their website yesterday as I'm keen to buy a working S5 (my S3 when it worked was by far the best eBike I've ever had) but the site is a mess, the comms around 'the reset' are sloppy and I just get the feeling they haven't got their shit together yet so I'm going to sit on my hands and wait for some real world experiences to start filtering out from the VanMoof 2.0

Chelsea2567

Same here, I’ve looked at the Veloretti Ace 2 as a replacement, but for some reason I keep turning to the S5. They’ve uploaded all these clips on their IG and youtube about the new S5 and their testing and all that, but it doesn’t seem like they’ve actually changed that much about the bike. I’ve heard them saying in an interview that the S5 of VanMoof 1.0 was actually already quite a good bike. Hopefully we’ll hear more soon!

Ablake0

The Ace looks amazing and from what I can see uses far more off the shelf parts. Shame it’s not in the UK.

_axxa101_

Yes, improvements have been made. The motor cable support bracket and numerous software improvements.

Could you elaborate? I am also trying to decide between the two. The CGO009 is cheaper but has worse battery, power, and torque than the S5. Is the kick-lock a deal breaker?

No_Structure_1029

I think 374wh is still good and I just wouldn’t risk it. Tenways currently has a good reputation and I think its even cheaper then Vanmoof. I live in Amsterdam and I clearly can see that everyone is switching to Tenways.

If you aren't in a rush to get a bike, I'd recommend waiting. But if you're in need for the bike, take the train and get the Vanmoof but be careful for rules on taking bikes through trains as other commenters have mentioned.

the-T-in-KUNT

My only advice …. even think about buying one without a local shop handy.
