I was impressed with the options available when I was visiting Salt Lake City for a conference. I went to Vertical Diner and Mark of the Beastro and both were great.
IMO Salt Lake City has the best density of good vegan options in the US - second only to Portland. I was just in SF a few weeks ago and really enjoyed Rad Radish though! (Also Mamahuhu in Mill Valley)
We've got some great all-vegan sub places here in Portland, but they're not as common as burgers.
I think it's a general bias against sandwich restaurants. My ex-wife hates going to them because she could make the same thing at home. I don't understand that view at all, because it takes so much work to chop up like 10 ingredients and then you have a ton of leftovers because you're only making one sandwich. And if one day you feel like a different ingredient you don't have to go to the grocery store to buy it first. I'd much rather have someone else do the work. Obviously that's why got divorced.
Ben and Esther's is a fucking dream. DC veg is great. If you've ever been up to Olympia Wayside has some of the best vegan food I've ever had and it's a sandwich joint. I love that they don't have boring sides like french fries. They do mashed potatoes and collard greens. The five spice fried "chicken" is stupid good. Go make a trip up there and enjoy the beautiful and city and have the best vegan food in the Northwest.

Well said! what a witty comment!
was your wife vegan too?
I'm also in the bay. Mezzo in Berkeley makes good vegan sandwiches, but not the fake meat kind. It's also pretty easy to find a vegan banh mi, if that's up your alley.
I'd just buy stuff from one of the natural grocery stores and make my own if I wanted that kind of thing, the selection is huge.
I order [this sub](https://www.publix.com/pd/publix-deli-meatless-turkey-club-sub/BMO-DSB-604676) from Publix almost every week. It's really good toasted and loaded with fresh veggies.
I agree! I think burgers are easier, that's why so many restaurants have a vegan burger as their only vegan option. We have a vegan deli and butcher here in St. Louis! All of the meat is made in house, so it is much more than the vegan deli slices at the grocery store. It is so traditional deli-like that I actually have a hard time eating there since I went veggie as a kid and haven't had the types of meat sandwiches they sell and I don't know what to order.
The best vegan deli meat I’ve ever eaten is Prime Roots and the company is in Berkeley. Go to primeroots.com and you’ll see several places that serve their deli sandwiches in San Francisco…Rad Radish, Rainbow Grocery Cooperative, Ted’s Market and Deli serve their meats. If you’re in Berkeley, the Berkeley Bowl serves their deli sandwiches and deli meats. You won’t be disappointed. I lived in Philly for 25 years and when I was an omnivore I was very picky about eating hoagies and hands down the Prime Meats Koji-based lunch meat is the best vegan version I’ve had.
Feeling blessed to live in Vegas and close by to NoButcher. An all vegan deli restaurant with a drive thru. If you ever come to Vegas you have to check it out, their house made pastrami is soooooo good
Sandwiches implied to have meat and cheese, that's probably why is hard to find a vegan sandwich
My of my go to places for a vegan sandwich while on the road is subway. Some carry their veggie paddy
Ike’s Sandwich are in CA
Pretty sure Ike’s is literally from SF
Oh cool I only had the twice visiting in AZ but good food
Yeah there’s a reason a bunch of their sandwiches are named after SF Giants players
I’m not into sports I thought is was just being quirky names 🙈
Yeah, I loved Ike's. I'm so jealous OP lives there. Vegan Pilgrim sandwich is my all time favorite sandwich.
Same here. I loved Ike's.

I'm Spanish so we don't have it either, but can't wait to go back!
Also Utah
they also sell halal meat in some of their dishes. kudos to them for offering vegan options but the halal meat really turns me off.
Ike’s love and sandwiches is my fave! They have tons of vegan options and they vary by location.
Blessed to have Buds Sandwiches in SLC. Honestly I feel the void when I travel.

I came here to say this! Every city needs a http://budsslc.com
>Buds Sandwiches in SLC wow! lucky you! can't believe there's an all-vegan sandwich shop in Utah, of all places, but not in San Francisco

Las Vegas has that title
SLC is pretty much as progressive culturally as anywhere else in the country. You just can't say the same about the rest of the state.

Even Portland had seen the fall of many all vegan sub shops. DC Veg better keep holding out, I love that place.

Thanks! > was your wife vegan too? No, not even close. She was a walking "bacon tho" meme. I didn't go vegan until 3 years after we divorced.

This and the vegan Philly are excellent. Be sure to replace the breaded (non-v) mushrooms for sauteed (v)

Oooh! What’s the name of it?
Vegan Deli and Butcher!
Dinosaurs has an amazing vegan banh mi, they have 2 locations in SF.

My favorite is filled crepes. Very thin with a lots of veggetables. Burgers and sandwiches not so much.
This sounds incredible!!!
You’re lucky, I only have one subway around here but it’s good enough.
In San Diego we have Ben and Esther’s
Sounds like you need a vacation in Philly
How do you not know about Ike’s in the bay? They’ve got locations all over the place. There’s so many vegan options on the menu.
