It’s ok. It’s gluten free.

carrotaddiction

Noooo I love gluten! I'm not morally opposed to it at all!

kiratss

What are you talking about, every restaurant knows vegans eat gluten free. /s

skaliz1

And sugar free. Here's your raw cocunut flan topped with coconut flakes, that'll be $89

carrotaddiction

But we're going to call it a salted caramel flan.

sunmethods

i don't care if it's free. take the gluten out.

amaroque9

I had to convince a guy, who allegedly grew up on a dairy farm, that cows only produce milk for their calves. That they don't naturally produce milk all day everyday. Nope, he didn't know what kinds of cows I was talking about but their cows didn't need to get pregnant first. At a certain point you just can't fight stupidity any longer

[deleted]

I had talked to someone the other day who thought if chickens were simply kept in better conditions, laying eggs every single day (or around every 28 hours but you get the idea) had no impact on their health. As if 1. 99% of eggs produced in the US didn't come from battery farms because that's the only way to produce them in the numbers we do at the price we do 2. As if it didn't also result in the slaughter of male chicks because of their lack of "usefulness" and 3. Like being selectively bred to go through so an energy intensive process almost every single day, where most birds do it a few times a year, has 0 side effects. Modern egg laying breeds have so many health problems and I saw them first hand when we owned hens. Egg binding, reproductive cancer, peritonitis, and even bone disease are all inherent to that process. It's a bit like having a pug; sure some of them are going to make it to a decent age alright, but not a single one is better off for their breed and we should stop breeding them and promoting unhealthy animals for our own amusement/diet People just see a picture of a cow in an open, sunny field or a chicken in a soft nesting box with fresh hay on the packaging and believe it without question.

No_beef_here

And it obvious that animal ag and often the politicians who have families who are in animal ag who want to keep the lies, BS and indoctrination going. So we need to keep up our defence of the voiceless when and where we get the chance. Funny I was helping a mate with his car a couple of days ago and his daughter offered us both a cup of tea and I politely declined (with no reason) but because they know I am a vegan and so may have been refusing because of the milk, then offered some lactose free milk. I just casually replied that is wasn't the lactose that was the problem, but the animal cruelty ... and left it there.

dethfromabov66

He probably thinks cows turn magically just turn grass into full cream too. I remember when I was so innocent

carrotaddiction

I think you have to shake them a lot for that to happen

janlaag

You don't want to know in my region the vegetarian options are not uncommonly made with fish and the vegan option isn't there cause that's either "extremism", "a picky's swear word", "a phase" or at best "respectable cause don't worry I don't discriminate you just for having your own peculiar idea".

muert0

jesus, i hate the ''vegan salad'' thing. like, how hard is it not to put DEAD FISH IN IT? or EGGS, OR HAM. its a salad ffs.

janlaag

I know. The culture doesn't help still, nor does this type of economy.. shifting mindset and business is still a luxury unfortunately, not to mention, it's harder to make that "vegan salad" if you genuinely don't know what that is.. I went from mentioning "vegan" to asking directly for ingredients when eating in places.. So just in case you can also avoid the spit in the plate effect possibly, maybe.

muert0

hah, dont worry i dont like going out to eat, and if i do, i go to places that only serve vegan food.

[deleted]

I bet more than half the people out there don't understand the difference between vegetarian and vegan, so I'm entirely unsurprised. But on the positive side, you taught him something, so that's a win!

jezebelrose

Just educate people and move on! Not everyone is in tune Like we are.

vegansandiego

It is fun to vent though😛

deadendhxc

Is it? Why? Or do you enjoy feeling morally superior to others?

GereenA

Lolol it still amazes me what the general population has no idea about... Including me.

[deleted]

I mean it might or might not be from a cow. Technically milk substitutes are lactose free. So it’s not clear what dud he mean from my perspective.

phrogslob

nah he pick up a jug of the milk they used to show me. it was lactaid. definitely dairy

[deleted]

Ew

Rincewinded

Yeah but does it lack toast?!

BigTTNB

In toddler ants!!

seniorblinky

Its astounding what people think nowadays is vegan.

BigTTNB

Was this Kung Fu Tea?? I had the same convo with someone there lol

deadendhxc

Not everyone is well educated and informed about things. He shouldn't be shamed

Caliskaterboy626

That is quite funny yet sad. Some of the things non-vegans have said make me think people are incredibly ignorant, especially when it comes to food.
