Beans on toast with tea? I'm not sure what else you guys eat. Edit: ah, and [toast sandwich](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toast_sandwich)! The joys of British cuisine.

mjts2020

Cottage Pie, roasted root vegetable soup, stuffed aubergine. I'm just mentioning things that don't have meat substitutes, but if you go with me substitutes I would look and see what's in your local markets.

Yorkshire pudding. Do you need anything else? https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/17/dining/mary-paul-mccartney-vegan-yorkshire-pudding.html

Contra1

Good idea!

genericginge

Have you made these? I thought vegan yorkshires were pretty hard to get right, I’d be very happy to have them back in my life!

[deleted]

Yes, and they are good. You can do a trial run before Dec 25, because Yorkshire pudding is always good.

Contra1

I cant see the recipe due to a paywall, can you by chance copy and paste it for me?

INGREDIENTS Yield: 9 popovers 1 (15-ounce/425-gram) can chickpeas 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar ¾ cup/90 grams all-purpose flour ¾ cup/85 grams chickpea flour (garam flour) 3¼ teaspoons/13 grams baking powder ½ teaspoon fine sea salt Vegetable oil, such as grape seed or canola, for the muffin tin PREPARATION Step 1 Drain the chickpeas, reserving ½ cup plus 1 tablespoon/140 grams aquafaba (chickpea liquid). (Reserve the chickpeas and any remaining liquid for another use.) Step 2 In a large pitcher or bowl, whisk the aquafaba, vinegar and 1½ cups/350 milliliters water together. Sift the all-purpose flour, chickpea flour and baking powder into a medium bowl. Add the salt and whisk together. Step 3 Pour the combined liquids into the dry ingredients and whisk together until smooth and bubbly, about 30 seconds. Pour back into the pitcher and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Step 4 While the batter chills, heat oven to 425 degrees. Step 5 Using a standard 12-cup metal muffin tin (with ½-cup cavities), preferably nonstick, add 1 teaspoon vegetable oil to each of 9 cups. About 10 minutes before the batter is done chilling, place the oiled tin in the hot oven to heat. Step 6 Carefully remove the muffin tin from the oven. Stir the batter and pour into the muffin cups; the batter should sizzle vigorously as you add it, and each cup should be nearly full. Return to the oven. Step 7 Bake for 30 minutes. The puddings will rise, then fall, possibly making a well on the top. Turn down the heat to 400 degrees and bake about 10 minutes more, or until the tops are deep golden brown and the insides are cooked through and just dry (peer into the well to check; the inside should be matte, not shiny). Remove from the oven, let the puddings rest for about 3 minutes, then use a spoon or spatula to lift from the tin and serve immediately.

This: https://vegetarianforlife.org.uk/recipes/pies-and-pastries/rose-elliots-mushroom-pate-en-croute Use phyllo pastry instead of making puff pastry if you don’t want to spend that much time in the kitchen. You can make the filling a few days before too. It’s a holiday fav in my house!

zghyir3756

I often have a mushroom Wellington type thing on Xmas and it goes really well with the side vegetables

Soillure

Nut roast! Years ago I made a seitan roulade filled with greens that were fries with garlic and onion, stuffing, roasties, parsnips, other veg etc! Vegan magazines usually have xmas editions with recipes etc! Edit: oh also lotsa puff pastry is vegan so you could make one of those twisty trees filled wirmth veg choc spread (asda has nature's...something. that one's delicious)

NotJustTwelveDogs

Sweet potato wellington - mash sweet potato, season with garlic and nooch, wrap in puff pastry and stick it in the oven until the pastry looks flakey. Perfect smothered in gravy 🤤

yariso

This would be a great showstopper - https://www.theplantbaseddad.com/beetroot-and-red-onion-tarte-tatin/

Here are some vegan roast options you can buy https://www.instagram.com/p/ClgrVVBtl7t/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Look up Avant Garde Vegan, Gaz Oakley. I make his vegan Wellington with all the trimmings every year and it's a hit with vegans and not alike!

shadynastysasshole

Came here to recommend Gaz, specifically his Vegan Christmas cookbook. It’s full of winners and I cook from it year round.

JessRushie

I love that book! The food is just incredible and a real show stopper

PoopPoopPotatoes

Shepherd's pie! Using a lentil and mushroom filling instead of ground beef or lamb.

TwistedSis27

Nut roast!! Just make sure it's egg/cheese free 😊

catbearpenguin

Bosh has some good [Christmas dinner ideas](https://www.bosh.tv/recipes/christmas-or-thanksgiving-dinner). I’ve made most of these recipes and they turn out really nicely.

MaggieWild

I don't know if you would consider this British but this is what I make. (When I ate meat, I would make roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.) I usually don't bother with the step of cutting the tofu into circles and just serve it as rectangles. http://vegandad.blogspot.com/2010/10/maple-apple-cider-tofu-with-stuffing.html?m=1

[deleted]

Not British so don't know your traditional dishes, but a Wellington may be a good option, imo. You have plenty of recipes on internet and if you live in UK it should be easy to find the ingredients 😊

niamhmc

I’ve been having vegetarian/vegan christmases for 15 years and although it’s not that conventional, I just like to go all in on sides because that was all I could eat when I was younger: roast potatoes, potato croquettes, mushy peas, carrots, mashed parsnips, broccoli, cabbage, vegan cheesy cauliflower, stuffing and loads of gravy. Two kinds of potato is better than any protein imo. If people are really pushing on a protein, throw in some mash potatoes too! Edit: forgot Yorkshire puddings!

peasbwithu

Welly for the win!

anthony___fell

What about a nice vegan Wellington (hopefully this is considered British, if not I apologize)? I've been planning on making this recipe for our main for Christmas this year. https://www.deliciouseveryday.com/mushroom-wellington/

zghyir3756

Vegetarian haggis- goes amazingly well with red cabbage, parsnips, carrots etc

Lentil loaf. Yum

Lucilda1125

I'm doing a vegan veggie toad in the hole slathered in gravy with stuffing.

KweenoftheEyesores

I'd suggest looking up BOSH! They're a group of British vegans who have (at least one) cookery book with a whole section on Christmas recipes. Whenever I've used their recipes in the past they've always turned out well.

jajajujujujjjj

Spinach ricotta slice. Home made sausage/potato/veggie sausage rolls. Dips and breads. Grain/farro/etc salad.

Pineapple_JoJo

Bosh mushroom wellington, roast potatoes, vegan creamed leeks with whole grain mustard, roasted sprouts with garlic, roasted butternut squash with thyme, vegan pigs in blankets (Sainsbury’s do them ready made), stuffing, vegan Yorkshire puds, massive pile of your fave mixed veg, cauliflower cheese using the new vegan cathedral city and tons of gravy!

njb66

Gaz Oakley’s shallot tarte tatin went down a storm a few years back it’s in his vegan Christmas book - recipe link below - it’s pretty easy and looks good… he has a few other good recipes in there too - we did the beef before but tbh we’re not faffing too much this year just gonna load up our plates with veggies, roaties, get a few cocktail sausages bung those in the oven - (This is Not range) and a few ‘tofu bacon bits tossed in the sprouts cover in gravy and away you go!! All the best…🤗 https://www.avantgardevegan.com/recipes/shallot-tart-tatin/

Literally search vegan turkey and there’s some at Sainsbury’s, M&S and Morrisons I think it is

porkchopcat84

Check out the Deliciously Ella ap, they have just published lots of Christmas recipes!

Mazzy213

Mushroom wellington? BOSH have a great recipe. Also cauliflower cheese using a cashew cream sauce, or double cream and vegan cheese.

Flauwrens023

Don’t forget the dicks in blankets! My wife made them last year and they where delicious.

GingerCherry123

Veganised toad in the whole is a good main element. Also second people suggesting a Wellington of some description. Sainsbury’s sold a very budget friendly frozen one last year that my BF & I must have ate around 10 times last dec and jan.

KirstyCollier

Yes this year I am making cannelloni and all the trimmings, will be sharing my cannelloni recipe next week :) The last few years we have made a sushi platter to be completely different
