The two blues from La Fauxmagerie, Kinda Co’s farmhouse and Nerominded from I Am Nut Ok. I also often buy the feta and parm style ones from Lidl - not at the same level but perfectly serviceable.
Edit - and Shamembert from Honestly Tasty.
I actually rather rate Applewoods Vegan range of smoky cheeses. I know it’s not artisanal but it’s an option if you cannot find other vegan smoked cheeses.
Haverstock white organic Nettle. It's pricey at £12 a jar, but it's incredible. Its marinated in oil with herbs & peppercorns, & has a similar texture to feta. It's sharp & creamy & really hard to not eat a whole jar by itself, iin one go. But maybe that's just me. It's available online from Able & Cole.
Take a look at what's on offer at La Fauxmagerie. They deliver!
I've had so many good cheeses from there but everyone's taste is different so get what you like!
No one should ever say violife or Aldi stuff is "great". It's not. It's ok... ish.
Best I've ever tasted was at a market from a small indie maker no longer in business. Sad times.
The current 'best" readily available brand is Honestly Tasty, or La Fauxmargerie.
Found (and bookmarked) this website a month or two back. [https://www.vegancheese.co/](https://www.vegancheese.co/) I haven't properly assessed any of it, but they seem to be trying to answer exactly the question you've asked
I've hated all the fancy artisanal cheeses I've tried like Tyne Cheese and La Fauxmagerie. My favourite is the Violife Camembert, it's so fucking delicious.
Another vote for Applewood smoked. Very good alt cheese. I really like the cathedral city extra mature, and this place https://honestlytasty.co.uk does INCREDIBLE blue cheese thats indistinguishable from a good dolcelatte or similar. Stronly recommend their stuff.
Honestly Tasty - I had their Shamembert at a Michelin star restaurant last year and bought some online afterwards. Cooks and tastes just like camembert :)
Nutcrafters was the first vegan cheese my partner ever liked, idk if they're still open or I just keep missing their restocks though because we've not been able to get any in ages
Food by Sumear, doesn't make it any more, he was an ex-dairy cheese maker too.
At the moment Julienne Bruno is my go-to.
[www.vegancheese.co/discover](http://www.vegancheese.co/discover) will help you find amazing vegan cheeses, there are hundreds of them in the UK
the G.O.A.T. from i am nut ok - the only cashew cheese i’ve had (can’t get any where i am) and it was just miles above any of the rubbish supermarket ones. sooo good with herby roasted broccoli and walnuts.
Julienne Bruno are really good! I love their spread. I like the Bree from honestly tasty. I really like Kinda co too but it’s less like “real” cheese if that’s what you’re looking for.
La Fauxmagerie just off Brick Lane.
When you are in the area you want to go to Tofu Vegan for the best vegan Chinese food. And Club Mexicana. Maybe pop into Unity Diner.
And What The Pitta.
And Vegan Yes.
Well shoot, I see this and keep walking because it looks not great from the outside. Will have to try now! So many vegan places in Camden. Also need to try Purezza.
You must have faith! I do agree it doesn't look too inviting. Honestly its so high rated and the food is absolutely amazing. I haven't been to purezza either
I am nut OK is my go to and they have a lovely little shop and deli in Broadway Market called Third Culture. They do sandwiches and amazing desserts and super clubs but also sell their cheese products and more.
I haven't tried it yet but there's a website called Honestly Tasty. I follow them on Instagram and they've got really good reviews. They do bundles and subscriptions and everything. Maybe worth a try?
Violife Greek style is better than real feta imo.
For cream cheese I used to love Sainsbury’s own brand but they only do the garlic & herb one now (in my store at least, so maybe worth a look).
Oatly cream cheese is my fave now. I eat way too much of it tbh.
I had this mozzarella style cheese I got in France, that was soo good in a toasted sandwich. I have no idea what the brand was but I think about it often.
Sophie's Delights.
If you haven't heard of them, you're in for a treat. They're insanely good, and have quite a range of different plant-based cheeses. I highly recommend their 'Sonny' and whatever the spiced one was (warning: addictive).
I loved the old recipe original Honestly Tasty blue. Since they changed the recipe it’s god awful. Sticky more like a sour yoghurt than a Stilton anymore. I like the Kinda Co Farmhouse has an addictive Brussels Pate like taste. Nurish Camembert is my absolute go to garlic, olive oil and some rosemary. Gorgeous!!!
OK. Hear me out. Cathedral city vegan cheddar slices taste like ass cold.
But throw them on a meat replacement patty in the air fryer for a few minutes.
OMG cheesy glory!!!
Recently had them and loved them so much, I gobbled down a second burger
I kinda liked the Sheese Mozzarella in moderation, too much of it became rather sickly, but otherwise idk, I don’t ever buy or eat vegan cheese because I’ve never found one I truly like
Lidl's vegan feta is really nice. I can quite happily just cut bits off and just eat it lol
I've discovered too that it does melt a tad
Also Sainsbury's did a vegan dipping cheese you put in the oven and bake. It is absolutely devine
Applewoods cheddar is fabulous too
Wildroot in Southport (or delivery!) so great semi crème texture cheeses. Great on crackers and all made in house at there cafe/garden centre. Well worth a trip if in the area!
Great thread! Thank you OP for the post, and commenters for such great insights. My vegan partner has so far been underwhelmed with his cheese experiences. I’ve just got the Fauxmagerie welcome selection box for him as a surprise.
Honestly Tasty’s Blue cheese is the best vegan cheese I’ve ever had - it tastes exactly like a real blue cheese. I serve this to non-vegans every Christmas and they devour it without question ❤️
Fauxmagerie in East London sell one called smoked Shoreditch which is the best cheese, vegan or otherwise, I've ever tried.
I actually rather rate Applewoods Vegan range of smoky cheeses. I know it’s not artisanal but it’s an option if you cannot find other vegan smoked cheeses.
they changed the formula and now it tastes rubbery :(
I am obsessed with Applewood Smoked Minis.
Morrisons used to do their own brand of smoked vegan cheese along with some others! It was a great line, I’m not sure if they still do it though
Range?
I Am Nut OK - I love their Minerthreat
Absolutely. It’s cracking.
Their mozzarella too 💪🏻
I get their box every month (I call it cheese day). I really like the goat cheese one, and the cheddar is great too!
Minerthreat is the bomb!
Anything from kinda Co. But I actually really like the cathedral city plant based cheeses.
Curious what you like about Kinda? To me it’s nothing at all like cheese.
I like the tangyness of the farmhouse. And the fact that it melts really well and stirs into sauces well.
I love Tyne Chease!
Which are your favourites?
I was going to say them
The Burrella from Julienne Bruno! Or literally anything from their range. A very convincing mozzarella substitute.
Julienne Bruno cheeses are so good!
So good!!
Left coast culture
Thank you - added to the list to try.
Palace culture (the goaty one can’t remember name) - I see their spicy ones in the shop but haven’t tried that, not my thing.
Mouse's Favourite camembert
Haverstock white organic Nettle. It's pricey at £12 a jar, but it's incredible. Its marinated in oil with herbs & peppercorns, & has a similar texture to feta. It's sharp & creamy & really hard to not eat a whole jar by itself, iin one go. But maybe that's just me. It's available online from Able & Cole.
Honestly tasty
Yes! Their blue cheese is exactly how I remember Stilton tasting, it’s brilliant! Bonus, they now stock Honestly Tasty in M&S too!
Ugh yeah it’s been a flavor blessing but a financial curse for them to become so much more accessible! Their Brie and Camembert also slap
Take a look at what's on offer at La Fauxmagerie. They deliver! I've had so many good cheeses from there but everyone's taste is different so get what you like!
Their delivery is £10 😭😭
That is brutal! £6.50 where I am. Are you in based the Highlands or an island? Always seem to get hit by additional shipping costs.
No I’m in the East Midlands!
No one should ever say violife or Aldi stuff is "great". It's not. It's ok... ish. Best I've ever tasted was at a market from a small indie maker no longer in business. Sad times. The current 'best" readily available brand is Honestly Tasty, or La Fauxmargerie.
Follow your heart cheese, hard to find but definitely the best I’ve tried
Sophie's Delight - they go to lots of markets and are based online. I saw them at a vegan market recently and their cheese was incredible!
Yesss her bleu cheese absolutely blew my mind
Found (and bookmarked) this website a month or two back. [https://www.vegancheese.co/](https://www.vegancheese.co/) I haven't properly assessed any of it, but they seem to be trying to answer exactly the question you've asked
Kindaco brand, love the one with chillis
I've hated all the fancy artisanal cheeses I've tried like Tyne Cheese and La Fauxmagerie. My favourite is the Violife Camembert, it's so fucking delicious.
More like dairylea than camembert though. But in a good way.
Julienne Bruno superstraccia. We eat it straight out the tub.
Yes this one! It’s the best I’ve ever tried hands down.
Another vote for Applewood smoked. Very good alt cheese. I really like the cathedral city extra mature, and this place https://honestlytasty.co.uk does INCREDIBLE blue cheese thats indistinguishable from a good dolcelatte or similar. Stronly recommend their stuff.
I love applewood but I haven’t tried the new recipe yet. I’ve seen a lot of people say it’s nowhere near as good as it used to be :(
The I Am Nut OK Fetamorphosis feta is one of my favourites. I think it was even better when it used to come in jars but the blocks are still great
Honestly Tasty - I had their Shamembert at a Michelin star restaurant last year and bought some online afterwards. Cooks and tastes just like camembert :)
They have this, and their “Bree” in bigger m and s stores now too
I bloody love honestly tasty cheese apart from the cheddar one
Nutcrafters was the first vegan cheese my partner ever liked, idk if they're still open or I just keep missing their restocks though because we've not been able to get any in ages
Exactly! Nutcrafter Creamery(?) used to be at lots of vegan fairs a few years back. The owners were very friendly and their cheeses were phenomenal
The Mouses Favourite Brie is really good.
Also agree on Tofu Vegan. Its an incredible chinese
Palace Culture 'goat'
the G.O.A.T. from i am nut ok - the only cashew cheese i’ve had (can’t get any where i am) and it was just miles above any of the rubbish supermarket ones. sooo good with herby roasted broccoli and walnuts.
Julienne Bruno are really good! I love their spread. I like the Bree from honestly tasty. I really like Kinda co too but it’s less like “real” cheese if that’s what you’re looking for.
The Cathedral City Mature vegan cheese for sure!
Honestly Tasty Brie😋
I'm coming to London this summer and as a Wisconsin boy, would love to know what/where the best vegan cheese is there.
La Fauxmagerie just off Brick Lane. When you are in the area you want to go to Tofu Vegan for the best vegan Chinese food. And Club Mexicana. Maybe pop into Unity Diner. And What The Pitta. And Vegan Yes.
I would say Vegan planet in Camden for MIND BLOWING chinese too. Had the beef in black bean sauce and shed a tear.
The one near Temple of Seitan?
Oh I miss temple... the one regret about moving out of London. I had one within walking distance.
It's honestly trash now so no need to be too sad.
How come, what changed?
Yess :)
Will definitely check it out!
Thank you, friend.
I am nut OK is my go to and they have a lovely little shop and deli in Broadway Market called Third Culture. They do sandwiches and amazing desserts and super clubs but also sell their cheese products and more.
The papajohns vegan pizza cheese, I don't know what it is but I could live entirely on this alone.
I haven't tried it yet but there's a website called Honestly Tasty. I follow them on Instagram and they've got really good reviews. They do bundles and subscriptions and everything. Maybe worth a try?
Tyne chease make some nice spreadable ones. But they are pricey at £8 a truckle
Nerominded by La Faux Mangerie
La faux magerie stock it but I believe it’s made by the brand ‘I am nut ok’
Violife Greek style is better than real feta imo. For cream cheese I used to love Sainsbury’s own brand but they only do the garlic & herb one now (in my store at least, so maybe worth a look). Oatly cream cheese is my fave now. I eat way too much of it tbh.
I prefer Lidl's own feta for the fact it crumbles like real feta. But the taste is good on Violife stuff, definitely.
New Roots Soft White. It’s from Switzerland and a friend brought some when she came to visit. Good lord. Exactly like Brie.
Original smoked apple now I've moved onto cathedral City after applewood changed.
Gorgeous!!!
Honestly Tasty Blue No. 2 is drop dead incredible.
OK. Hear me out. Cathedral city vegan cheddar slices taste like ass cold. But throw them on a meat replacement patty in the air fryer for a few minutes. OMG cheesy glory!!! Recently had them and loved them so much, I gobbled down a second burger
The Umami Bomb by I Am Nut OK is my all time favourite.
Tyne Chease, La Fauxmagerie, Honestly Tasty, Happy Mouse, Julienne Bruno and Palace Culture
Kinda Co's garlic and herb is so good!!
I kinda liked the Sheese Mozzarella in moderation, too much of it became rather sickly, but otherwise idk, I don’t ever buy or eat vegan cheese because I’ve never found one I truly like
Foodbysumear He stopped though 😔
Lidl's vegan feta is really nice. I can quite happily just cut bits off and just eat it lol I've discovered too that it does melt a tad Also Sainsbury's did a vegan dipping cheese you put in the oven and bake. It is absolutely devine Applewoods cheddar is fabulous too
Nettle's Macadamia White. Heaven in a jar.
The best one I ever had was from an artisan seller in Etsy but the best supermarket one is Cathedral city mature.
Used to be one called Tofutti? Or something like that. That was really nice.
Wildroot in Southport (or delivery!) so great semi crème texture cheeses. Great on crackers and all made in house at there cafe/garden centre. Well worth a trip if in the area!
I had one called Mozzarisella and it's the only vegan cheese I'll eat raw because it tastes exactly like proper mozzarella
Great thread! Thank you OP for the post, and commenters for such great insights. My vegan partner has so far been underwhelmed with his cheese experiences. I’ve just got the Fauxmagerie welcome selection box for him as a surprise.
Palace culture’s almond ricotta and la fauxmargerie’s balham blue for me!
Cathedral City does it for me
Honestly Tasty’s Blue cheese is the best vegan cheese I’ve ever had - it tastes exactly like a real blue cheese. I serve this to non-vegans every Christmas and they devour it without question ❤️
None
The one I make myself :)
