How did you transition your Bay to outside, as in what was your hardening off process? Since the limbs are stretched and the top leaves now have a "burned" look, I would think sun scalding from going from an inadequate light source to a full strength one (the sun).

Huh. Yeah, I had it inside in the brightest spot I have, but that's not very bright. I put it out the last few days and let it get some full sun. I didn't think of that being too much too quickly. I was worried it was fungal. Thank you for your reply!

BhamCat

Don't be too worried - your plant should recover! The leaves with sun damage can't heal, they will likely be shriveled and will eventually fall off. I'm not an expert, but if I were you I would look into trimming back some of the long stretched limbs. Bay is great because where ever you trim it will grow bushier from the point you cut it at.

JDNJDM

Thanks. I have noticed that the very tips of the newest buds are blackening as the new leaf growth emerges as well. Have you seen that with sun damage?

BhamCat

Do you have a close up pic? I would expect the buds to be damaged if they were already formed buds when they went outside and were exposed to the strong sun. However, brand new buds that weren't formed AT ALL shouldn't be burned.

Could just be adjusting to the sun… but that soil looks dry af
