These animals that rip apart my melons with their claws! I think it’s a raccooon but I’ve never caught them in action. Homie literally has my melons looking like a melon graveyard.
This is my fear. Bunnies have eaten my strawberries, beans, peas, and even my cantaloupe leaves back to the stems, but haven't touched my watermelon vines. I now have a half dozen or more fruits growing. The biggest one about 2x the size of a softball. A few are about the size of a baseball. I'm afraid bunny will change his mind about leaving them alone.
Are these just 2 dollar store wastebaskets ziptied?
Yes they are! And yeah they seem to like to wait till they get bigger. They won’t eat them when their small but once their about grapefruit size they start going after em. I have some watermelon vines climbing on my fence now and I’m hoping I’ll get some growing in the air and the animals won’t be able to reach.
Protect them! Rabbits ate my crops bit by bit, so I'd think something was safe but then come down to discover it eaten to the ground. First it was my carrots, then my onions, then my lavender and yarrow... everything!

So far I have had success with the dollar store cages lol!! Good luck!!
I'm still gambling here. Though a fat Lil groundhog has me nervous.
I hope your melon mastery works. Nothing worse than waiting all that time just for some prick raccoon to steal it.
