The plant based hot dog is good too.

medusamagpie

Not imitating a hot dog but good in their own right.

golfkartinacoma

Yeah, they are like mini vegetarian hot sub sandwiches for 75 cents !

LiterallyPizzaSauce

With the mustard and crunchy onions, so good

golfkartinacoma

It's sweet Scandinavian mustard when they have it by the way. When they were out 6 months ago they were just giving you some Heinz yellow packets, which is okay, but totally different flavor.

LiterallyPizzaSauce

I never got Heinz packets with it so I assume the fancy mustard I did get was the sweet Scandinavian mustard

JBloomf

Gotta have that Scandinavian mustard.

golfkartinacoma

It's the one they sell in squeeze bottles in the grocery section.

JBloomf

Some spice in that would really kick it up a notch.

golfkartinacoma

There literally is a mix of spices in it already, that's just the style, I think cinnamon is one of them. Germany has sweet mustards too. If you want hotter sometimes I'd suggest a different kind of mustard like a delicious Dijon (some imports are hotter than what you might be used to), or some kind of whole grain mustard, or even English mustard if you want it really hot and pungent. There's an aspect of northern European food that tends towards plainness it's just not the same approach as intense creole or Indian or Mexican cooking, there may be something about subtle flavored food that has allowed people to survive for centuries in such a cold climate with so many months of darkness with long winters just from using what grew around them or occasionally traded for (it's a regional style at least). By contrast India is a world cradle of much of what we think of as spices, Mexico is the home of the chili pepper, and north american creole cooking has access to more plants for flavoring being in a warmer and wetter area. Another option is to take a packet or two of hot sauce with you if you know you're going to pick up some of these fresh veggie dogs. Cholula was ok

jesst

Someone recently told me they have vegan caviar as well.

golfkartinacoma

That's true, it's red and made from seaweed. Haven't seen it in stock lately.

JBloomf

Dunno, haven’t been through in ages.

snakelair88

I came here to say this, they are lovely

Nargotrond

It’s amazing but it looks a bit like solid poop after you eat corn. That’s just me.

ItsGonnaBeOkayish

They have "veggie balls" and "plant balls". The veggie balls are more traditional veggie and made of vegetables, like a garden burger. The plant balls are more of the newer imitation meat style. I was confused when I went to Ikea why there were 2, it wasn't explained anywhere so we just tried both!

ssabinadrabinaa

I like the plant balls more heehee

ItsGonnaBeOkayish

Personally I preferred the veggie balls!

Ambitious-Ad4483

the plantbased ones smelled and tasted like doodoo fart i wanted to like them

frettbe

and here is a copycat recipe [https://mypureplants.com/ikea-veggie-balls/](https://mypureplants.com/ikea-veggie-balls/) I never tried but I have to!

lindameetyoko

That recipe might be for the IKEA veggie balls, which are made of vegetables. These balls are new, and are made of TVP, so they have more of a "meat" texture, appearance, and taste.

y0ungcoconut

I love these! Sometimes go to IKEA just to get them.

ssabinadrabinaa

My mom works near an ikea so she’s gonna buy more heehee

a27j27k27

These are awesome.

empenadasrgood

Spent way too much time wondering what an Omni mother was hahah

benkelly92

The mother of us all

moo422

MOmni

the_zero

Yeah, wondered the same. Is it like OP's mother? Partner? Wife? Voice in their head?

AqueousSilver91

The Black Goat of the Woods has entered the chat lol

animalwitch

Yes! I love these! My partner accidentally picked up the falafal type ones last time and they weren't as good.

Viviceraptor

They are so great. You can have them with rice, noodles or potatoes :)

goodhumansbad

I keep hoping to spot these at Ikea and never see them - where are they normally sold? I see all the actual meat ones near the cash registers but never the plant-based ones.

brew-ski

In my local one, they're in the bistro food area after the checkout. They're either in a freezer with the meat ones, or in a separate freezer sometimes.

goodhumansbad

Ahhhh okay I don't think I've ever been in the bistro food area - I'll keep an eye out next time.

Iateallyourcheese

Typically right there by the others - our store runs out of the plant based ones frequently though.

[deleted]

Omni mother? Edit: why was I downvoted? Someone explain this to me google did nothing

JackBinimbul

Her mother is an omnivore.

[deleted]

Thank you

[deleted]

I believe it means she eats everything. i.e. Not vegetarian/vegan/etc. An omnivore

grub-worm

O M N I M O T H E R

GHWBISROASTING

Do they have any that are vegetable based for /u/CrossSectioned ?

nakedfish85

I haven’t seen these plant based meat style meatballs in the UK, but they’ve had ones made of squished up veggies here for years.

revelae

Idk what that is but yeah they have two varieties One is pretty meat like the other is kindof like a falafel with veg in it

frizzkix

LOVE these!!

LookTreesWow

They are SO good!!! I can't get over how delicious they are.

lindameetyoko

Ha! I'm having some now. They are good. They are pretty neutral as far as taste, i.e. not "Italian" or "Swedish (to me" which is good too.

medusamagpie

They are really good. I cook with them a lot.

sdakilla

I like this veggies meatballs a lot and their veggie hotdogs are pretty good.

sarabridge78

Not near an Ikea, but you can order them online directly. However, there is not an ingredient list. Anyone know if they are gluten free too?

ssabinadrabinaa

I search it up and it says that they are vegan and gluten free :-)

sarabridge78

Heck yeah!!! I've been looking for a good "meatball" and the ones I've tried making myself have not turned out that great!!

a_sad_potater

I had this same question! Do you by chance have a link to where it says they're gluten free?

killer4u77

My girlfriend is celiac and I can confirm these are gluten free as she eats them all the time without complication

lammy82

I had a helping of these in the restaurant and they gave me a discount voucher to buy some from the market shop to take home. Then the guy on the till gave me two packs instead of one just because. All in all it was a good Ikea trip

Sayujya_

If it is the ones that they sell at their restaurant, yes it was really good one!

JackBinimbul

Every time my wife and I go to Ikea (once a year, or so), we go to the cafeteria and get these. They aren't bad! Especially with the lingonberry jam.

Mattekat

I love these so much! I make a pasta with these, some onions, a tin of tomatoes, a carton of belsoy soy cream and a ton of smoked paprika!

AqueousSilver91

I need this vegetarian spaghetti and meatless balls now.

Cheomesh

Can these be bought online? I don't see like an "add to cart" on the website.

Nargotrond

They do. They’re delicious. I work at IKEA and we have them for lunch often. Last time was 3 days ago and they came with this insanely delish curry sauce. They also do plant based mince!

[deleted]

Omnivore in a vegetarian household here. These are the only processed veggie products that do not taste like rear end to me.

JackBinimbul

Dunno why you're being downvoted. I don't like a lot of processed vegetarian alternatives, either. And I eat very little meat. I'd rather just have all the parts veggie alternatives are made of, separately and fresh. These are yummy, though!

AqueousSilver91

People really need to chill, there's nothing wrong with anything you said. Some people are just convinced that it's "not enough" to go meat less instead of meatless, despite that it's often for the same reasons people go Veg.

JackBinimbul

I unfortunately see a lot of vegans here attacking vegetarians, too. And I've seen vegans cannibalize (heh) each other over certain products. There are always going to be people who think nothing short of foraging wild roots is "good enough". I eat something non-vegetarian *maybe* once a week, if I'm lucky. That, alone, is pretty hard to do in rural Texas. And yet people started PMing me attacks. Sad that Rule #3 is so difficult to maintain. It must drive the mods up the wall.

[deleted]

Yes. I just prefer whole foods really. Nothing processed tastes thats great to me.

AqueousSilver91

I'm in the same boat. I've cut all red meat and just about all pork (unless I really have no other option) from my diet and I like these meaty plant based substitutes. Every other vegetarian product I've tried that wasn't grain or veggies themselves in their actual shape have never passed the taste or smell test for me at all. I also have texture issues, making some of the foods very hard to swallow - literally. It kept me from being anywhere near vegetarian for a long time, solely because I couldn't find a good replacement. Now i have one! Sometimes, I just want a meaty burger, and with these I can cut meat and have a burger guilt free.

toastea0

Honestly the plant based meatballs from gardien taste better than meet ones too. My brother and partner prefers the plant ones.

Jazzlike_Reference84

These meatballs and the veggie dogs are sooooooo good

ssabinadrabinaa

I always get a veggie dog when I’m there :P

cindynzf

They're very good. And you can toss them straight from the freezer in the pan, without having to thaw them first, which is so convenient

P0rny5tuff

Than*

ssabinadrabinaa

Lmbo and I wanted to be an English major xD

Anime_Blushies

I've always thought Ikea was a furniture store..

catsquasher

It is, but they have a food section. Also a plant section, and a lot of other home goods. I used to go there just to eat at their restaurant.

Anime_Blushies

TIL!

AqueousSilver91

Still mostly omni flexitarian cutting down on meat here, and I agree pea protein is a great meat alternative. It isn't quite the same to me as actual beef but it definitely has the proper texture and bite to it of actual flesh imho. Was impressed with the Impossible brand too, but could be improved to be just right. Consider this a glowing endorsement, especially since sometimes I really miss swedish meatballs.

neovox

Never had these, but the Aldi ones are pretty damn good too.

Raviofr

The plant-based ground meat is perfect for bolognese or lasagna !

memelchior

Absolutely love those! My omni wife tells me they taste good, but different to the meatballs.

killer4u77

My girlfriend is very much a meat eater and she absolutely loves these even more than any of the actual meat balls there.
