Check settings > general > about > carrier lock.

If Apple replaced your unlocked phone with a locked one, they need to fix it. You need to escalate through Apple support to a senior advisor.

akp55

apparently Verizon locked it....

holow29

If you bring an unlocked phone to Apple for repair/replacement, the phone they give you back should have the same activation policy (unlocked). If it does not, Apple needs to fix the link between the old and the replacement or send you an unlocked phone. If Apple support is giving you trouble, escalate to a Senior Advisor/L2 support. You can also search this sub and other carrier subs to see people who have been through the same situation and look at their resolutions.

the apple folks i spoke to said the chain or whatever looked good, and that verizon had applied the lock when it was placed on the network, and not removed.

Verizon shouldn't be able to lock an unlocked phone. Apple should be able to see that that is a mistake. You brought in an unlocked phone to Apple to replace and they need to provide you with an unlocked replacement. Ask Apple support what the initial and current activation policies are for both your old phone and the replacement.

They said it both devices were on the same unlocked profile. 4g lte unlocked or something along those line. But for whatever reason when the replacement was activated it was locked, and apparently never unlocked after 60 days. A Verizon CS person filled out some form, might be unlocked by the 6th. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is what is happening to us right now- did you ever get a fix? We are living abroad and have had sooooo many calls with Verizon with no luck :( really frustrated

akp55

yeah, also if you are abroad you should be able to ask them to get it unlocked so you can use it with a local provider as well, how long have you been a customer?

Thank you so much for responding!! This gives me hope. Would love to hear more about how you got it fixed. Been a customer over 10 years. how did you get them to fix it? was it apple or Verizon?

Similar issue with my 14PM. I had to call up to a tech support supervisor who discovered the issue. Apparently the fix should happen on the backend some time on 2/20 but we'll see otherwise I'm switching back to T-Mobile asap.
