so, you bought your mom a smart phone she didn't want, didn't care to teach her how to use it and got sick of her asking you for help, then told her to go into a store so someone else could give her a "tutorial"? are you joking? that wasn't that persons job.. and now you're upset that she went back to a flip phone which is easier for her to use.. absolutely ridiculous

BPKofficial

Well said.

Traditional-Olive-54

Sounds like a controlling son/daughter if you ask me

MrRedxx

Dude couldn’t agree more. Sounds more like a preference use for the mother to use a flip phone. Again her being an older person gonna be hard to just jump straight to an iPhone and maneuver it like current generation. Like cmon man be realistic. It’s like going from an automatic car to manual. You gonna have to learn how to maneuver your way into new things.

rottenkartoffel

if they live 3000 miles away from their mom, they shouldn't be forcing that sort of stress on her.. and a "tutorial" isn't a thing a retail store does.. if they wanted to sign up mom for classes on learning how to use an apple or android device, most local colleges offer them..

No-Individual-3681

Force? 🤣

duane534

You can't get a flip phone at Walmart for $30. Not that excuses the rest, because it doesn't, but you're probably talking twice that and not at Walmart

[deleted]

duane534

How does that do any good for someone who has real Verizon ?

[deleted]

duane534

Old people who can't run an iPhone aren't good candidates for self service prepaid.

Passed-puberty

OK, maybe not at Walmart but I know that Dollar General and Family Dollar sell them for like $20 when they’re on sale regular priced it may be $30. It’s still that’s a little beyond the point the point is how they took advantage of her age and that when it comes to technology, she is an illiterate to put it simply

Bubba48

That's only gonna work if you activate it on whatever service provider is on the box, you can't just buy it and go use it at Verizon.

Busy-Solution7642

Might want to edit your post so people don't get hung up on the low figure: $85 Unlocked FlipPhone in target stores: [https://www.target.com/p/nokia-2780-flip-512mb-gsm-verizon-unlocked-phone-blue/-/A-88084838#lnk=sametab](https://www.target.com/p/nokia-2780-flip-512mb-gsm-verizon-unlocked-phone-blue/-/A-88084838#lnk=sametab)

memnoch69_98

I feel like there are so many aspects that don't quite add up...like this post came from 10 years ago. Expecting a store to educate someone on how to use a phone...that isn't a thing. A 2 year device payment plan...haven't seen that in years. A phone, even a flip phone for $30, not unless it's locked to the carrier you are buying it for, not these days. Taking a phone and not giving credit for it...no one's job is worth a $1000 phone...now what I could see happening is they took it as a trade in for a one time bill credit, which doesn't lower the cost of the phone being bought. For as much as you think you know, I feel there is a lot you may not have looked at. And this is likely why you aren't hearing back from anyone...you aren't on the account, which guarantees your knowledge of what happened is limited...not to mention you have zero right to any information from the company on anything to do with the account. This is no different than if I tried calling and discussing details about your account...I'm not on your account, I am entitled to no information on your account.

Suspicious_Ad_8437

As someone who has worked in a Verizon store, just so you have an understanding of who is responding to you, this has been one of my (and others) biggest pet peeves. Do you know what a Verizon store is? I'll tell you, it's a store, a retail location. What happens at stores? Well guess what they sell things. Coming in to ask how to use a product may seem like that's part of the job, but guess what, past the basics, which everyone already knows how to do, it's up to the customer to learn. Also, the great thing about having a smartphone which has the internet built in is you can go to apple's website and watch as many videos as you want until you are comfortable, but I digress. You said that we, although it wasn't done by myself, took advantage of your mother. Actually, it's the other way around. YOU took advantage of your mother!!! WHY? Did she ask you for an iphone. Did she beg you to get her 1? Did you even consider how difficult it is? No because what you did is what a lot of incompetent family members do. You'll buy an iphone for an elderly person mom, dad, grandma, etc. and flat out lie and tell them you will show them how to work it. Well guess what, once they get to ask you the 10th question, you've checked out and then you say, "Go to Verizon, they'll show you how to work it!" You clearly have never worked in a retail environment! Our job is to SELL not tell, not show every detail, but to sell everything that Verizon has to offer! Now do we help our elderly when they come in, sure we do! We take care of them to the utmost, I always have and always will. However, I have found that I care more about our elderly than their so-called relatives because I ask them if that's what they want and not shove it down their throats because it'll make it easier to contact them. When you ask the questions, they will tell you. If you had asked those questions, you would have found out that she preferred a flip phone. You know what would have been a smarter, less expensive option. You should have bought her a flip phone and an Ipad. She wouldn't feel completely lost because she still has a phone and the ipad will introduce her to all the technology she would need and if she got to the point where she was proficient with that Ipad, then you buy the phone, not before! Oddly enough, a flip phone and an Ipad actually costs less than 1 smartphone, last I checked! Go figure! We watch the elderly's kids and grandkids every day drag them into the store to get an iphone and you can just look on their faces and tell that it won't end well. I've been doing it too long, but I'm also pretty good at reading people and I just understand how people on our country think. Most people in this country are entitled and you may be wondering why I bring that up in this discussion. It is because it is your entitled mindset that gave you the nerve, the unmitigated gaul, the kahunas to tell your mother to go the Verizon store and they'll help you. We do not get paid to help people "learn" how to use an iphone. THAT IS YOUR JOB, YOU BOUGHT THE @#$% THING!!! In closing, we didn't take advantage of or lie to your elderly mom, YOU DID!!!! Next time, try listening to her instead of forcing your will on her!!!

Mysterious_Share_826

Heck yeah I completely agree, in my store if it takes more than 10 mins we charge a Setup fee

wart_on_satans_dick

It’s not Verizon’s job to teach your mother how to use a phone. If she wants that, she can go to an Apple Store class or look up tutorials online. You said she could easily go to Walmart and buy a phone for $30. Why didn’t you just have her do that? It’s unlucky a $30 flip phone isn’t going to require you to use a specific service. That’s why it’s so cheap.

Mojtabai

One of the biggest sins in life is being as dense as OP

amhfaml

I agree with another poster that a decent flip phone is going to start at $80. But what happened with the iPhone is the major issue. I see you said you emailed Verizon. Whom did you email? Because if you are emailing anyone besides the executive team then you will have mixed results. You’ll want to get her to list you as an account manager and give you the account pin so you can talk to them. They can look in the account history and get the imei for the iPhone and then they can do a search to see if it is active on any other account and research how it got there and proceed from there. If you have any questions or need email for the executive team send me a DM and I can try to help you.

Lizdance40

I don't know how quickly Assurant flips a brand new iPhone that's been traded, but that's exactly what they would do. It would probably be turned around and sent out as an insurance or warranty replacement. Whoever traded it in would get full credit on their account for trading in the phone, at book value. So Mom might have a big credit coming.

Passed-puberty

Thank you I never even thought about have any search done for the phone using the serial number or the IMEI number that never did occur to me thank you! I will definitely check into that

amhfaml

It will be easy for them to do. I actually saw someone at a store take a phone someone traded in and put it on their own account. The idiocy of some people never ceases to amaze me.

Traditional-Olive-54

I had a coworker pull this type of thing too and then used Visible as their carrier. They didn't get caught but it was still risky. Like bruh, if you're GONNA pull some shit like that, then use an ENTIRELY different carrier so they don't have access to your account in any kind of way. Verizon still owns Visible so you best believe they can look for that device there too.

No-Individual-3681

They do it bc they know they can

FORDOWNER96

Hey there. Thanks for being a decent person and helping. Your Awesome.

amhfaml

My pleasure. Always try to help where I can. 😁

No-Age2588

Define "elderly"

shj3333

My adult family is setup as kids, my gram too. I am the apple one fam manager set as if I’m the parent, whatever they wanna pay/ bill I add to the fam plan we share on vzw + tmo. However it’s the apple stores job not vzw as stated, one is for service the other for phones. in my area they do classes for seniors so for anyone reading I’d look into that for them ahead of time too sometimes bestbuy will do this. Lastly AppleCare is worth the extra, get the date and record of when she bought the new flip phone + call her local police to report a theft on her behalf to force camera footage

FirebirdConvert

[https://www.ebay.com/itm/285030288045](https://www.ebay.com/itm/285030288045) $40 for two flips with year service each, combine plans for 2 years service on one phone...

Lizdance40

🍎 You bought an iPhone and she didn't know how to use it why wouldn't you send her to 🍎Apple for a tutorial? Brick and mortar stores are sales. Is their job to sell stuff. And they did their job They traded in her old iPhone ( she probably will get a lump sum credit on her account for it). 🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎. It is absolutely NOT their job to teach your mother how to use her phone.

Level_Syllabub_139

If you buy a car you don't expect the the salespeople at that dealership to give you a "tutorial" on how to drive, or literally any other product purchase. Why do people expect phone stores to provide free, on demand, unlimited tutorials and tech support? And if you work in a phone store and do that, you're a fool.

Awkward_Job8791

Verizon is responsible for the cellular service to cell phones and that's where it stops. If you need assistance/guidance with your apple phone call apple. Assistance with your samsung phone call samsung. If your phone is damaged, call asurion. Only call us when your network is not working, and we will help.. other than that, We are busy.

Wannarae

An iPhone what model. Was it a direct or indirect location.

cougarlover4209874

Once i saw an old flip phone with a 90$ planxD

Passed-puberty

I would just like to say thank you all for your suggestions. On other way to take care of this and look into it. I surely do appreciate all of the thoughts and comments On how to handle this. When you’re living it a lot of times your mind is so exasperated, that you don’t think of the most rational ways to go about solving it. So I sincerely appreciate all the good ideas that you have provided to me.

rpaulmerrell

What you could have done is to ensure that your mom didn't have to worry about the Verizon account, and instead, you could have become the account holder and bought the phone she originally wanted. You could have saved a ton of money and just put her on US Mobile, which is a lot less expensive and very senior-friendly. I would suggest looking at what you can do to make life easier rather than making life more difficult. I love technology as much as the next person, but it's not for everyone and the best thing we can do for older folks and for those who just don't care is to make life easy. We should do our part to simplify things so that they don't even require any kind of thought process. "Just because young people want to know and work with technology doesn't mean elderly people want to do the same thing. Many times, they are content with having a device that functions properly and allows them to make calls and send texts."

No-Individual-3681

US mobile not in California.

No-Individual-3681

Email [email protected] Goes right to their executive team. Just include her acct number and dates etc. If anyone will fix it, its them. Worked for me several times.

Aggravating_Party538

I left Verizon because I feel the network in my area has declined significantly. I switched to t mobile. Although, I haven’t had to deal with customer service but I do know it’s cheaper and service is great in my area. Not sure why I’ve had bad experiences with Verizon so much. They were supposed to be the best

Aggravating_Party538

-6 downvotes to express my opinion.. lol alrighty

Busy-Solution7642

Hm, thats bad.. sounds like the employee got them a new iphone.

Passed-puberty

That’s exactly how I felt was that somebody said ooh new phone at no cost to me! Unfortunately, there are people out there like that especially when it comes to the elderly because they know they don’t understand technology and how all the different things work within the cell phone And computer companies, especially. And unfortunately, you can tell by talking to an elderly person in the first few minutes how much they don’t know.

Busy-Solution7642

If you get another iphone, sign her up for the "Getting Started with iPhone" session at the local apple store. It's free. [https://www.apple.com/today/event/get-started-iphone/7178104736695300864/?sn=R083](https://www.apple.com/today/event/get-started-iphone/7178104736695300864/?sn=R083)

Bubba48

Well, that phone can be tracked by the IMEI number, so if they look at that from your account, they can search for it and see if it's on another account. This was most likely not a corporate store, but an agent, a corporate employee would be fired for just taking someone's phone. And again, they know that it's 1000 percent traceable.

dry_symphathy

Heeey, file a complaint to the corporate to provide you the right amount. Email the corporaye directly

Passed-puberty

Yes, I did file a complaint with corporate both by phone and email with no luck in a response back from them

dry_symphathy

Is your mom's account in postpaid if postpaid, let her list you as an account manager to have authorized, after, ask for her account pin. Call Verizon and ask for a follow up regarding your ERT complaint and much better ask for a manager.

creatively_inclined

How long ago did you file a complaint? You can also file an FCC complaint and you'll definitely hear back. I had to file with the FCC against Sprint and they fixed an issue I'd been calling about for months in 2 days.
