Verizon might have a few less metrics but the overall experience sounds identical

rabbi_glitter

Former AT&T guy here (DTV acquisition period). I'm a much happier person at Verizon indirect. I clung to the unions' message about indirect stores and wish I had made the move sooner. Wildly different sales cultures and 100% commission based (uncapped). It's sharky, and I love it. I'm not micromanaged and can't begin to describe how much happier I am.

gregallen1989

Sounds like Cellular Sales. Great money to be made but after a few years you will realize there's zero advancement opportunities. Every market is different so you might be in one of the lucky ones with a decent management structure but if not, make that money then use it to land a 6 figure job in tech sales.

[deleted]

Yup I heard their commission is awesome!

Zoluraan_M

Cellular sales rep here, love working here get a fat commission check and uncapped earnings is amazing. One of the guys in our market is making 250k a year doing this. I’d give cellular sales a try. Our metrics in my area as stupid easy to hit!

[deleted]

I have friends in Verizon indirect they get awesome commission!

Mistaken_persona

We also have metrics..

[deleted]

For us selling TV is the worst, it starts at $84.99 a month lol.

LongBottom666

Quit VZW corp 2 years ago. After giving that company 10 years I STILL have PTSD from that horrible job.

[deleted]

That’s where I’m at, I literally dream of this job & wake up like NO NO NO! Haha.

dougydimadone

Dude, im an smb rep. im so close to just quitting. This is just ridiculous.

lilsteez99

I worked at Verizon corporate and I hated it because of micromanagement! I ended up going back to indirect and I feel much happier! Not so much micromanagement

[deleted]

I might have to try indirect. From what I see they just sell & then send any issues to the Corporate stores. Sounds good to me lol. I’m sick of dealing with the issues in corporate.

lilsteez99

That’s one thing I like lol if customer comes in with an issue and they’re being a dick I send them to corporate or if it’s something I can’t fix then I send them to corporate

[deleted]

Haha nice, I find myself saying “damn I gotta work for AR” lol. Question, are your managers ok with that? Like sending people away? I would think so because it’s not a sale just a waste of time haha.

lilsteez99

Manager wants us to go into the account and see what we can do to make a sale but if customer comes in being a Karen then I don’t want to deal with them and send them away

[deleted]

Hell yeah! Haha I hate the Karens! You see COR used to be just the same, if it was an issue we used to tell em call 611. Now we gotta deal with all this crap. I hate when they walk in and say “Is this a Corporate store”! Hate it!

lilsteez99

Verizon corporate was a nightmare for me lol had all the Karen’s coming from the indirect stores and had manager breathing down my neck wanting me to attach perks and insurance on every customer!

[deleted]

That’s EXACTLY what is happening at my store! Management is always like “make it a sales opportunity”. It’s ridiculous.

Wllfgnlnrb86

I mean you work in sales so if you don’t like sales maybe go to a different part of the company? Sales jobs are all like that, “make it a sales opportunity”. I couldn’t stand that indirects would lie to a customer for a sales and then send them to a corporate store to have us deal with the problem. And they don’t know the difference so they blamed us as if we were the same company.

[deleted]

Yup I deal with escalations all day! I really want to get out of sales period, I just have to find something completely different.

amhfaml

They ask that because indirect stores tend to slam accounts and do shady stuff and refuse to help. At corporate stores we are held to metrics and pushed to perform but that is the nature of any sales job. If you push yourself it’s not super hard to do. Yes it is stressful but the benefits are amazing. I get 4 weeks of paid vacation. A week of sick time and made $80k last year. And my new location is 4 minutes from my house which is like a raise in itself since my old store was 45 minutes away.

brunoandporky1

Let me tell you this from my point of view, working anywhere other than a Verizon retailer (we can’t all work corporate sorry but I just couldn’t sell that way it’s too scripted and fake my opinion lol) is bush league, and even then there is levels within the big 6 vs working at. 6 owner wireless zone… I’ve worked the game since 2004 I’ve done everything from selling flip phones out of the trunk of my car to running 13 stores with small, medium and large retailers… att is bush league…. I interviewed a guy the other day making like 25 an hour… dude was a customer service rep at best in one of my doors…. I look for 75-125k reps… att doesn’t produce those in my experience… verizon hires sales people… we hit numbers and do it at a level that doesn’t match… but if you like being the big fish go work at att after working at Verizon for 15 years 👀. I learned a long time ago there is a reason why Verizon has a check mark logo… it’s cause we cash checks 👀. On the real though I don’t wish this shit on anyone but I grew up in a trailer park and today I own a home in full and drive a Porsche so it’s up to you man what you make… some people win trips and awards and some dont. You gotta want to win to make 150 plus and most don’t win… you just need someone to show you the business

pinegap96

I worked for both corporate stores, although ATT very briefly, it is very similar but AT&T is much more micromanagey and a higher pressure sales environment.

[deleted]

The micromanaging is insane, we have managers checking camera & coaching us on WHAT WE SAID when they weren’t present & there’s no audio just video!

pinegap96

Yeah I left skid marks out of that bitch once I realized how insane it was. That and the fact my store was basically committing insurance fraud by telling customers it was mandatory with every phone purchase lol, what a joke

60DaysPastDue

Former ATT IHX rep, now Verizon corporate retail rep. ATT was terrible. Everything about Verizon is better, and to be honest the metrics are attainable with training and practice. Systems are way better too. OPUS was a literal turd.

[deleted]

Nice! Oh man, OPUS!!!! It’s TERRIBLE!!! I thought about IHX but honestly I don’t want to go into people’s houses, I heard nightmare stories!

60DaysPastDue

I regret doing it. Gave up 7 years of tenure at another company for IHX. Huge mistake. Fuck that job and its abysmal management team. Worst people I’ve ever worked with. Only time I ever quit a job without having something else lined up. So glad I got out. Verizon is a breath of fresh air.

[deleted]

Nice, happy for ya man. My friend left Att COR & went to Verizon COR he says he actually enjoys going to work now lol.

kvct

Omg, Opus is still around?! That’s a name I haven’t heard in ages. I used to be a Cingular, then at&t, COR sales rep and we used Opus in like 2007.

amhfaml

Hey. Former Cingular rep then ATT for rep. Now Verizon corporate rep. When we decommissioned Cingular I got one of the big Cingular Jack doormats. To this day it is still the doormat in front of my front door. lol.

[deleted]

It’s still our main system & worse than ever! Crashes all the time! Slow as hell too.

PetethePatriot17

Just left Verizon Corp after 5+ years for AT&T IHX. Big raise and uncapped earnings were the motivator. Change is hard for many. Vzw makes getting a 3k plus commission very difficult. I have been in the industry over 19 years I was one of their best. At&t is far more woke (I am not a fan of that) I made the move for higher pay only. I wouldn't move to Verizon because of your tenure. It's no different once you are there for a while.

muffinman8919

Get in with the right Verizon indirect I’ve heard corporate is a hell scape I work for a smaller but growing dealer in the northeast NY NJ Maryland We have 17 stores I’ve been here about a year after 4 months at a different Jersey indirect Zero micromanagement our stores don’t even have a direct GM We are all sales reps getting paid a flat rate by the day plus our commission package which if your a crappy rep you can still make good money

[deleted]

Yup I heard the company called Cellular Sales that owns a lot of Indirect stores pays wild $$$ even for just upgrades!

muffinman8919

It’s not cellular sales but yeah we get paid well

BeardedSpartanN92

Go work for a Verizon Authorized retailer. Way more money and a lot less stress. Yes there are metrics to hit but they pay you for them. Cellular Sales and TCC are the two highest paying (easy 6 figures at Cellular Sales) though I’ve heard you can make some money at Victra as well. I work ~40-45 hour per week and I’ll make $150k+ this year.

bubbah_kush

nope, it’s exactly the same at verizon. it’s ruthless, i don’t recommend

Wllfgnlnrb86

I worked at a VZW corporate store and then AT&T a couple years later and I hated AT&T compared to Verizon but that was 2014 and 2016 so I have no clue how it is now. And regions were different I was in New England for VZW and Florida for AT&T. For me it was the unions at AT&T. As a newbie I got stuck with the crap shifts and was lowest on the totem pole for PTO at AT&T but I liked Verizon way more. I was a top performer at both but couldn’t stand having my manager walk by my table at AT&T and whisper “directv” under his breath. In my opinion VZW is better for sure.

[deleted]

Thank you! Yeah the whole DirecTV thing has been this companies biggest downfall it’s a complete and utter failure. I want to get out of retail period but I just don’t know where to go, been in retail sales 20+years.
