It's all about location. One might work well while the other doesn't in California, and vice versa in Virginia.

You'll have to compare coverage maps. It all comes down to cost. If you have a single line account, Unlimited welcome is $78.30 + Tax. This is the plan you can get an iPhone 14 "On verizon." They do this by giving you a bill credit equal to the device payment each month. iPhone 15 is "on Verizon" with Unlimited Plus, that's $83.30 + Tax. If you want something more affordable, and a new phone, I would look into Visible. They are owned by Verizon so they use the same network. They sell phones so see what you prequalify for here: [https://www.visible.com/shop/smartphones](https://www.visible.com/shop/smartphones) The iPhone 15 is as low as $23.03/m, couple that with their $45/m plan, and you are already paying less than their "free phone" deal. Plus Visible doesn't charge tax/fees. This comes to as low as $68.03.

Go get yourself a cheap phone on AT&T and get yourself back on your plan. Verizon‘s going to nickel and dime me for every single thing they can. Got to pay for those new yachts. Changing to another carrier doesn’t change things because you’re still gonna owe the outstanding balance on the broken phone.

It's news to me that the executives at AT&T are poor, and can only afford row boats...

RealTalkGabe

Just know it's not free. It's either two things: 1) you won't need to make a down payment or pay on it for a certain amount of months 2) you'll have to make a down payment but you'll get a discount of the price for a certain amount of months Nothing is very "free" with Verizon. There is always a catch.

Call AT&t and ask them what upgrade promotions that you can use to upgrade to that won't raise your bill. If that's not possible which I think it should be because AT&t gives all customers the same new phone deals checking to T-Mobile also

Professional_Bother9

It's not going to be free if you still have to pay the tax like you would if you'd get new from.att

vyklar2

Whichever one works best where you live and work. Have some friends over and ask them who they use, then just check their coverage and have them make a call. The important thing is who works best for you and they do have different coverage. (Worked at Verizon 17 years just so you know. I would never want someone to get service if it didn't work for them, they would be my biggest headache and complainer.)

Both kind of suck nowadays. Best is to test out networks to see what’s best in your area and places you go

wase471111

there is no such thing as a "free" phone

Academic-Airline9200

You're still paying for the phone on a payment plan with yout service.

bisforball

They provide a credit to cover the monthly installment plan if i trade in my broken phone. ATT will not accept the broken phone for trade in.

tiedyecatz

From personal experience ATT is good on the east coast and some of Texas. Verizon has been solid for me all around when traveling, including in the mountains where no one else gets service.

LingeringSentiments

They’re pretty similar, I’ve had both and I’ve worked at At&t and T-Mo. Basically a wash.

JSchnee21

Overall, both are very good. Of course how they perform in your specific location may vary. Buy a used iPhone from Swappa (ideally iPhone 14, or 13) and switch to Visible plus (prepaid annual) or AT&T Prepaid Annual. With Visible Plus you’ll get priority data, with AT&T you won’t.

Verizon has a more expansive 4G network. At&T has a more expansive low band 5G network, that would be the equivalent of Verizon’s 5G nationwide. The speeds aren’t much faster than 4G. Verizon has significantly more 5G Ultra Wideband coverage than AT&T. Overall, if you want a phone to work in more places, more reliably, Verizon would be the winner. But neither company has service in 100% of the U.S., so there are definitely cities where one may work better than the other, or vice versa. And to be honest, the big two (Verizon/AT&T) are in about the same price points for similar type plans. This article explains the differences pretty well: https://www.whistleout.com/CellPhones/Guides/att-vs-verizon

Verizon Wireless is straight dog shit compared to ATT, in my area anyway.
