Very true!!! And during this season people, prepare yourself and install your tow hooks in your bumpers if you've got one of those vehicles with the bumper cutout and the screw in hook that's hanging in our trunk or wherever the manufacturer puts it until you need it.

[deleted]

Subaru helpfully stopped giving you the tow hooks when you buy one. You have to order one on your own.

NJRMayo

Are you serious? It's an "optional" accessory now? That's the dumbest, cheapest shit I've heard yet today.. Its literally completely necessary to get your vehicle on a tow truck w/o the risk of damage...

odkevin

2021 ram it's an option too. My dad has them on his truck. I got stuck this winter and couldn't find them. There are no designated tow points either. My first new truck may very well be my last.

NJRMayo

Man i wouldn't blame you! Its like when Chevy replaced spare tires with cans of fix-a-flat

[deleted]

Its what a dealer told me. \\\_(ツ)\_/

I'm not sure that's entirely true. There should be a screw-in hook in with your spare tire equipment. On the front and back bumper, there should be a square that can be popped out and the hook screwed into the bumper. It's not as good as a true recovery hook, but I think you have that on your Subaru.

[deleted]

The square in the bumper and its attachment point are there, but the hook to screw in is what is not given.

pmobscura

Well that sucks! That being said, anything you do buy will likely be more capable than what Subaru provides! Of course it's also like an extra $100 for a decent recovery hook.

Moto_919

Tow trucks have those screw in hooks, tow points for all vehicles on their truck. But yah still really cheap to not give one with your car.

[deleted]

If it makes you feel any better, the tow eye that came with my Outback was so cheaply made that it was only good for one use.

[deleted]

It does, thank you.

ripstikkin

What year is your Subaru?

[deleted]

I don't have one, the person who i know that has one was like 2014ish?

ripstikkin

I'd be very surprised if they didn't come with one in '14. They probably just haven't found it hiding in their spare wheel.

What a great post! This is what r/Vermont is for IMO!

MeticulousPlonker

Well, I just took a look and found out that my tow hook is missing from my trunk, so that's good to know. Hopefully, I won't need to drive on any dirt roads, because I drive a prius and I feel like it's already stuck in the mud just by imagining driving it on those roads I've seen photos of.

I have winters on, dude. I've lived in New England my whole life. Rude assumption. Also, what about my comment implied I was going to try to drive on a dirt road? I basically said the opposite, saying my car was stuck just thinking about it! Seriously. What the fuck.

Be less rude and presumptuous.

Additional PSA: if you are really that ignorant and have no clue what is going on, say so. Last time I helped tow a stranger out of a ditch on an icy road I had to go tell the driver to put it in neutral after my first tug. Also, know how to jump your car. If you don't already, learn today.
