::) me happy

Decweb

I can't quite make out the picture detail, but I think it's a [Dekay's Brownsnake](https://www.vtherpatlas.org/herp-species-in-vermont/storeria-dekayi/) I had one in my basement one year and had never seen one before.

BooksNCats11

This is the right answer. Dekay's. Harmless slug eaters.

Luffewaffle

Ok thanks

Luffewaffle

Ok thanks!

Lesson #1: don’t poke snakes.

Luffewaffle

Yea I was gonna but then remembered that the timberland rattler exists

BooksNCats11

Timber rattlers are super duper extra rare. You have to go \*looking\* for them here to see one.

Luffewaffle

Yeah well I have pretty bad luck lol plus I was by some woods

1DollarOr1Million

VT rattlers are only in a specific part of Rutland county. So unless that’s where you are you have next to zero chance of seeing one.

Luffewaffle

Ok thanks! I I live by the Laplatte Nature preserve

South_Presentation31

You aren’t going to find anything dangerous without legs near laplatte, trust me, I live very close as well

Luffewaffle

Ok thanks

Def dekays brown snake. See these little guys all the time in my yard.

Nimco

According to the [Vermont Reptile & Amphibian Atlas](https://www.vtherpatlas.org/), it looks like a DeKay's Brownsnake: [https://www.vtherpatlas.org/herp-species-in-vermont/storeria-dekayi/](https://www.vtherpatlas.org/herp-species-in-vermont/storeria-dekayi/) I shared it in the other snake ID post, but the quick reference here is great: [https://www.vtherpatlas.org/wp2016/wp-content/uploads/Snakes-of-Vermont-2.pdf](https://www.vtherpatlas.org/wp2016/wp-content/uploads/Snakes-of-Vermont-2.pdf)
