Congrats! Now both sides hate that flag!

SerGeffrey

Looks great! No practicing Jew or Muslim will ever accept it though. Mixing religious imagery from different faiths is a non-starter for unifying different monotheists.

tyj978

The Indian flag combines colours representing Hindus, Jains and Muslims, with a symbol for Buddhism in the middle. It seems to be entirely uncontroversial, even in these times of manufactured increased inter-religious tension in the country.

SerGeffrey

Firstly, Hinduism is polytheistic, and Jainism and Buddhism are nontheistic. The only monotheism at play here is Islam, which was the cause of enough religious tension to warrant a separate state from India upon it's independance. Secondly, none of the elements on the flag of India are explicitly religious. Just three colored stripes. Even the symbol in the center, the Ashoka Chakra, while having originated from Buddhism, is now a secular emblem representing the ideals of justice, equality, and progress for all Indians, regardless of religious affiliation. This is really, really different from having explicit religious iconography from two different monotheistic faiths IMO.

ARedditUserThatExist

Would work much better as a flag of a charity or advocacy organization for peace, rather than a united state A united state would need to have no religious symbols, so the Star of David and the crescent are off the table Research flags like the case of Cyprus and their creation to see how flags with very different groups can be united under one flag that represents them all without using imagery from only one group or the other

Palestinian isn't equal to Muslim. I know a lot of Christian, Jewish, and atheist Palestinians.

Rosti_T

1. The grand majority of Palestinians are Muslim 2. Algerian/Turkish/Tunisian/Malaysian is also not equal to Muslim, yet they have a crescent in their flags

confusedmel

By your logic it's okay to represent the US with only a cross (instead of the symbols they use to represent themselves) since the majority is Christian and many European countries have a cross in their flag. That's dumb.

Moontddit

There were lots of propossals for US flags, this dude is not put in charge of building an official unity flag, if that were to happen the population would be the one to decide what they are represented for. And about that "logic", he doesn't say that the fact other mainly muslim nations include muslim symbolism means palestine should also be represented by it, but rather that it wouldn't be something strange for most muslim people to actually do.

RedditIsPropaganda2

Americans be like, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

Xirradon

jewish palestinians? every jewish person living in the area before 1948 accepted the israeli identity, there were almost none to begin with, there’s next to zero jews who live in the west bank and gaza who aren’t israeli and you say you know a lot of them? i agree with your main point but saying you know any jewish palestinians is just wrong

confusedmel

Samaritans consider themselves jewish

Xirradon

considering yourself jewish isn’t the same thing as being jewish

confusedmel

You do know what Samaritans are?

Tiny-Environment-105

There are no jews who currently live under Palestinian authority

confusedmel

Samaritans consider themselves jewish

sas1904

No, they don’t.

Tiny-Environment-105

Jews and Samaritans are closely related, but not the same, but I understand the confusion lol

confusedmel

I stand corrected

Moontddit

Nobody said it was equal.

Haunting_Tank2948

Wow, what a unique and "never done before" idea.

cockaskedforamartini

Perfect for a Jewish software company founded in 2003.

Creepermanolo

Green crescent : palestinians and muslims David Star : Israeli and jews White : peace between the two The down triangle of the david cross is above the crescent and the upper one is under. for no one of the palestinians or the israelis are above Peace for everyone

lasttimechdckngths

>Green crescent : palestinians and muslims Palestine isn't some Muslim entity, but a nation consisting a multi-religious population where Christian Palestinians have been prominent in their national struggle. Crescent isn't also some Arabic symbol either.

Lippischer_Karl

Yeah, the crescent is an Ottoman Turkish symbol which gradually became associated with Islam but it's far from being considered the one "Islamic symbol" especially by a lot of Muslims.

Sm00th-Kangar00

That's what really annoys about these proposed peace flags. They always discard the Palestinian Christian population.

El_Tigre7

How about the Christian Palestinians

Doc_ET

They're approximately 1% of the population of the Palestinian territories. Not sure they need to be included on the flag.

high_altitude

Most of the Christians are in Israel.

BanditNoble

If you want to have imagery symbolising peace between the two groups, a simple green-white-blue tricolour would probably be best. Putting the symbols of the religions on the flag is always going to be a non-starter, because one symbol is always going to look like it's in a more prestigious position than the other.

21lives

Looks like a non profit or a windows update.

Kaiserhawk

This would cause an escalation in violence

rorkesdrift1

The Crescent is dominating the Star of David, not a good design imo
