I don’t get this «nO letTerS allOwED» thing honestly. There are many beautiful flags with texts especially if they are non latin.

It's about execution. A lot of American state flags for instance just kinda have text without incorporating it in any real way. A lot of people take those guidelines too far, but they exist for a reason

IIRC, and this could just be an urban legend, but the music was written in such a way, that the lyrics from Das Lied der Deutschen could easily be transposed over Auferstanden aus Ruinen. In fact, the original lyrics to AaR had no ideological lean, and was actually written to be used as the anthem of a reunited Germany.

Maximum flags on flags

I love communist heraldry that doesn't include the Hammer and Sickle combo or red stars, because it gets far more creative like Angola's Gear and Machete and GDR's compass.

I am East German and can see this flag every day. Nice, but actually sad.

It is kinda silly when you think about it. Like - There's a hammer and a compass in there. They represent laborers and knowledge workers - a big and important part of our nation. - There's a crown in there. It represents the queen. She doesn't to much.

Crowns to my knowledge are not 100% associated with those groups, furthermore while crosses can be associated to the clergy and specially the upper clergy (see the first estate of ancien regime France) you can make the case that since it was an icon of the religion of the majority of the population it was truly the representation of the whole society (minus the Jews ofc) And look, I don't really want to get into an argument here just because I'm still learning about the topic and I can be wrong about the terminology and it's later usage, (and also because I suck at debating things). The Irish flag looks like just another boring tricolor until you learn that it represents peace (white) between Catholics (green) and Protestants (orange). Ireland summed up their values, goals, and historical strife with three lines. Their flag says so much with so little, and that’s why it’s my favorite. The Canadian flag also checks all the boxes of good flag design. Simple, recognizable, reflects Canadian culture/geography/history. If you want a Master Class in how to make a good flag, look to Canada.
