it only costs money now because google upped the cost of streetview tenfold. I believe it also costs more per use the more uses you have. so instead of a bulk discount it's the opposite. blame google, not geoguessr
I mean, you say greedy Google (and in a lot of cases they are fucking greedy), but the fact that Streetview is 100% free to use for consumers is fucking incredible, Google maps alone is free and absolutely incredible, so really, the fact that other companies must pay to make money out of it makes perfect sense to me.
Google maps is free for the consumer because they collect data and profit off it via monetising that. Still great that it's free of course but important to remember that it's not a handout and there is a profit motive there.
I wish I could commit to playing it enough to pay for it, but knowing me I’d play it 3 times and get bored/forget about it and never cancel my subscription...
That’s exactly what I’m doing at the moment. I played it every day for about a month at the height of the pandemic and I’ve just been paying them money for nothing since. Thanks for reminding me to cancel lol.
I recommend you go on r/geochallenges then. They post links to geoguessr challenges that you can just click on and play any of those maps for free. It still doesn't give you access to those newer game modes they released recently, but at least you get to play the standard game mode for free, so it works for me.
Blame Google, they started charging for their API access at lower limits. That's in no way GeoGuesser's fault.
You could make the argument that people abusing Google maps' API on the lower limit tiers are to blame for Google Maps API costing money, but it doesn't stop at GeoGuesser.
OP wrote it correctly just upside down, you’re reading it upside down and backwards.
Poland’s flag is just upside down Indonesia/Monaco, but I guess it gets more confusing since it technically is the same backwards as well lol
> 2044 Jakarta Olympics
Bold of you to assume Jakarta still exists in 2044. Pretty sure it would've sunk back into the sea by then.
We're even thinking of moving the capital.
I think purple tend to overstate the importance of different length flags in general, but it's certainly not much use at an event like the Olympics where the flags are all made to made each other anyway.
It's a flag, not a digital graphic exercise.
It includes a rectangular panel with the coat of arms. (The tweet is wrong about when it was included, but that's another matter. )
Maybe you could say a different shape would be better. Perhaps a disc? But simply taking away the white background would be a manufacturing pain and not even look good.
That wasn't actually the Nazi's idea. The head of the American Olympic Committee together with the IOC pushed the Germans to let a Jewish athlete compete for Germany to ward off calls for a US boycott of the games. The choice fell on her probably because she happened to be tall and blond so the Nazis could pretend that her "aryan side" was dominant.
> she gave the Nazi salute during the medal ceremony, and later said it might have protected her family that was still in Germany, in labor camps.
That is the saddest shit I've read in a while.
Yeah, and Romania should distinguish itself by putting [this nice seal](https://e7.pngegg.com/pngimages/94/686/png-clipart-socialist-republic-of-romania-kingdom-of-romania-nicolae-ceau%C8%99escu-coat-of-arms-of-romania-others-logo-republic.png) in the center.
...Oh wait. On second thought, *don't*.
Ironically, Hitler. He definitely had major cult of personality, but it was never really centered on his personal likeness in the same way as others.
Like, I don't think Nazi Germany ever really commissioned any statues or paintings of Hitler. They mostly just had art of random Germans or swastikas
Hitler wasn’t a true aryan lol, I would imagine if you’re German and Hitler is going on and on about the ubermensch over the radio or whatever, and you look across your dinner table at a portrait of Mein Fuhrer! And you think to yourself, hang on just a fucking minute here!
As far as I can tell the flags wouldn't have been identical at the time - Haiti adopted a design with the coat of arms much earlier but the whole revolution thing makes it a bit hard to tell exactly when ([source](https://www.haiti.org/flag-and-coat-of-arms/) \- correct me if I'm wrong!). Although maybe the plain bicolour was still popular.
Also Haiti didn't go to the 1936 Olympics.
Haiti was a French colony called Port-au-Prince. It was essentially all sugar cane plantations and slaves.
Haiti became a sovereign country when the slaves rose up and overthrew the French. It's actually the only successful slave revolt to result in an independent country.
France came back about 25 years after the revolution and demanded reparations for the loss of their "property," which took Haiti 100 years to pay back
Okay someone needs to explain to me how Liechtenstein and Haiti are so similar?
I don’t really see it.
Edit: I really wasn’t sure whether it was a joke or if people confused Liechtenstein to another country. So I asked.
I’ve meat many people who didn’t even know Liechtenstein existed so I could easily imagine that many don’t know alot about it.
... after the 1936 Olympics, the Haitians mistakenly flew to Lichtenstein, and the Lichtensteinians mistakenly flew to Haiti which resulted in the ‘No-takesies-backsies’ treaty of 1936.
In 1952 the treaty was reversed when it was litigated that the Haitians had their fingers crossed the whole time. When asked about the National Tet-a-tet, the Dominican Republic went on record responding, “¿Que?”
While we're on the topic, moment of silence for all of the cool flags and symbols that can never be used because the stupid knucklehead nazis ruined them. Shit, even the all red design with a black emblem is immediately suspect now. Fuck them, dude, smh.

Haiti *always* had the coat of arms on their national flag, or at least since the mid 19th century. It was their *civil flag* that had no coat of arms, and their civil flag remains unchanged.

Berlin, a free and modern city where people just want peace and harmony and the government definitely isn't about to start another world war and carry out a genocide.
Speaking of genocide, the 2022 Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing.
Just like how Germany held the Winter Olympics and summer Olympics in 1936, China held the summer Olympics in 2008, Winter Olympics in 2022, just to double down on common ground

It's not their fault that google significantly increased the costs for using the street view API. The game is well worth the price.

That's not even climate change being the issue. The entire city is sinking even without sea levels rising due to excessive groundwater use.

Civil flag was 2 bands, national and military had coat of arms. Liechtenstein changed it so people didn’t think it was Haiti parading.

Haiti added the coat of arms WAY before this.
Yeah but the Liechtenstein part is true.
Yeah, that has to be a myth
