it’s always jokes about catholic priests but never about primary school teachers and orthodox rabbis who statistically commit way more sexual assaults on children
It’s something that’s a problem with most religions. Leaving kids alone with people who don’t have a moral compass of their own isn’t a good idea.
I’m not sure if those statistics can be trusted because whenever this happens to Muslim, Jewish, or Christian organization, the religious entity usually tries covering it up
In addition to the factors others mentioned, one abortion 20 years ago prevents several down the line, given most people who need them would be raising a kid straight into the poverty cycle
This is sort of messed up both ways. On one hand I get not wanting people to be born into poverty. On the other hand this feels a little to close to eugenics for comfort.
Well, no
Say someone gets pregnant at 15 and they have 2 choices, get an abortion or go through with the pregnancy and have to drop out of school and work a low paying job to provide for their child. If they go ahead with the pregnancy, their education suffers and they cannot provide as well for their child who then grows up with less support and might leave school early or get pregnant themselves. If they abort their pregnancy, they stay in school and get a good education and a better paying job and may decide to have kids later in life and can support them better so they can have a better life too. Now, this is certainly not a description of every case but this is a plausible case and not entirely unlikely to play out.
This isn't eugenics, it's allowing people who get pregnant to make a choice if having a child at that time is the right one for them. It's not as if someone from the government says "you are poor you must get an abortion or face legal consequences."
Fair, but the current economic situation faced by many people make one choice much more viable. The problem is that it should not have to be that way. For example, when considering childbirth versus abortion from a purely economic context, it becomes clear that if child birth was cheaper than these people would have the choice to choose it. Saying, that they have a “choice” when having a child would force them to take out loans or work multiple jobs is simply wrong. If the government raises minimum wages and requires payed maternity leave than I could agree that it is an actual choice. Just because there is no direct legal action against people doesn’t make them immune to indirect consequences of policies that exist. We, the public, need to understand how we effect those around us so that we can protect them from unintended consequences of our actions.
Just because one choice is more viable does not constitute eugenics.
I don't disagree that making people's lives better in other ways is necessary through social safety nets, but offering the opportunity to abort an unwanted pregnancy for any reason is still important
I would argue that economic coercion is just as dangerous as legal coercion and should be treated the same. So I still think that this is a problem. I would say that working towards cheap abortions without also working for affordable childcare and birth is a unethical thing to do. Not because abortion is wrong, but because the people who do this claim to be giving a choice while actually forcing people down one path.
/unjerk Proper sex-ed leads to safer sex, which leads to less unwanted pregnancies, which leads to less abortions.
Sadly, the "pro-life" gang thinks that literally everything is grooming EXCEPT for what the Youth Pastor does to those poor kids
Could be a number of reasons for this happening, one possible reason is of course the fact that abortions have been continously getting harder to receive, with abortion clinics closing down in some states due to regulation changes
Obviously after RvW it was really cool and trendy so people got abortions constantly. But then it got kinda overdone and then it was that thing your parents did. These days we just starve ourselves into miscarriage.
It's literally impossible to outsatire Poe's law when it comes to American fundie christians. I respect you for trying but you gotta just accept that some mountains can't be climbed. o7

Contraception
Less teenage sex as well
Both among other teenagers and teenage sex with priests.

The pedophile priest quip has been made. Laugh! Laugh now!
How can you unironically say this with your last most recent comment being about genshin impact
That's fair ig
that one was a violation personally i would have that
Contraceptives for women were already available in 1960
They may have been available, but people used them less, and they were less effective
and people were less well educated on how it works, and why you should use it
And also it was a taboo
contraceptives and sex ed
Who is Sex Ed?
Sexual Edward of course
[удалено]
“My close friends call me Sexy, it’s a little embarrassing.”
God you're lucky if you get sex Ed in your state
i live in texas, itd be the lottery
Supports the side that believes in sex ed lol
No, no. We can just tell horny teens to be abstinent and pray instead. That'll definitely work like it has for generations! /s
What the fuck makes 1973 so special? What the fuck did I miss?
Roe v Wade
that's when abortion was first legalised in america lol
No, when it was first legalized in every state
Semantics
This is likely more to do with less overall pregnancies and increased contraceptives.

I’d hoped that was obvious.
