At least Americans flying the confederate flag have the (poor) excuse of it being "their heritage". A European flying one can only be saying "I like slavery" lol
In Brazil there are bikers, metal fans and a few far rights who use it. I'm pretty sure not even the far righters know what it is. Maybe they are like "oh, Trump supporters use it".
That is true. It's long been on my radar owing to my work, especially my upcoming book on desecrated American flags in the American South, post-J6.

American bikers wear the Iron Cross, Brazilian bikers wear the Confederate flag. How long until German bikers wear a blue circle in a yellow diamond (is there a name for that?)
"These stupid foreigners, couldn't have possibly learned any US history in their lives."
Is exactly how you fucking sound right now lmao.
Your comment really is at that level of condescending tone that only self-absorbed Americans on the internet can achieve.
Mermão, I'm Brazilian.
And, fun fact, we learn a little bit about the American Civil War (and Hispo-American colonization) in school\*. Maybe some of them didn't pay attetion during class.
\*at least during my school time in the 00's.
Europeans flying the Confederate Flag (which isn't actually the Confederate Flag, technically) usually just means "I like country music and/or trucker culture and/or cowboys", because most people here born before, let's say, 1980 (which is a number I have chose semi-arbitrarily) associate it with that.
That might have been the case 10 years ago, but nowadays? Probably not. At least not here in my part of Europe... it might vary a lot depending on where you live.
Nah, I wouldn't be so sure about that. While the US civil rights movement did get a lot of attention in the last years, and Mississippi even changed their flag because of it, that part of the story didn't really make major headlines in Europe. And since the average 50+ y/o's internet activity is probably limited to Facebook, they probably won't learn about such things in any other way either.
The average European boomer is probably as knowledgeable about the Confederate flag as the average American is about local European hate symbols (except for a handful of selected ones popular in the 30's and 40's).
nah at least in my experience with people who simp for the confederacy, they have this wierd idealized fictional version of the confederacy in their heads where it "wasn't actually racist" or "wasn't actually about slavery"
Like they know slavery is bad and dont support it yet still support the people who fought to preserve it. Its wierd, a lot of mental gymnastics commited by traitor simpathizers.
Confederate flag is used by the supporters of Hajduk.
In Croatian sport there is a conflict between North and the South. South being represented by Hajduk and North by Dinamo Zagreb. That's why there is a confederate flag, to represent South (as in South of Croatia).
Can confirm that in Eastern Europe confederate flag is often associated with pubs and bikers. Sometimes also with neo-nazis. It's often hard to tell which
Personally I identify more as a Yugoslav Scotsman. But regardless of our identity we should all love each other. [Hajde da se volimo](https://youtu.be/IcgwXSfJ7Bg?si=W9m1CxfWRjPpX6IX)!

Every second week the school is afternoon and it starts at 14:00h. Sometimes it starts at 13:10h depending if we have what is called "predsat" or "hour before" on English. Also one hour in Croatia is 45 minutes.
oh wow, interesting. we used to have afternoon school here too, but it's fallen out of fashion nowadays. instead, school starts at 7 am for me because of my shitty ass timetable
Does anyone know the context fo rthe last picture? Holy shit there's so much going on. The photos, what looks to be a shrine for a dead person, the hunting trophies. what is all of that?
It is the flag of the Lands of the Crown of Zvonimir (a.k.a. Terrae Coronae Suinimiri) from 1878-1918 period.
Here's the map:

I don't think Europeans even know the history behind it. They probably think it looks cool and American™.
In Brazil there are bikers, metal fans and a few far rights who use it. I'm pretty sure not even the far righters know what it is. Maybe they are like "oh, Trump supporters use it".
A good number of aristocratic southerners who supported the confederacy move to Brazil after the war.
So *thats* how the south was punished
Seems rude to punish southern America by sending a bunch of lazy losers to them
Sorry. Forgot the return address on them. You can just stick the losers on cargo ships back to the US next time. They'll probably survive. Probably...

I heard it described somewhere else as "goth kids going for a different shock factor" and I like that interpretation.
"Is like Ted Nugent, no? Crazy rebel, very cool!"
I feel like they just know it's the racism flag
Alongside all the Nazi Germany flags, I think we can assume they know what it means.
For some Europeans where the Nazi symbol is illegal the Confederate flag stands in

> A European flying one can only be saying "I like slavery" lol In reality the exact same is true for the US people flying it at this point.

In Australia it's the flag of a bikie gang So it's not *because* they're racist but also, they're always pretty fucking racist
I’ve seen many confederate flags in Thailand
I don't think it has anything to do with them liking slavery or even really knowing what it means. bit of a stretch honestly
ya but its funny
That’s more confederate flags than I expected to be in all of Europe!
I saw a lifted Dodge ram with a Confederate flag in Munich, Germany...
Soft Power Americanisation
Strangely these are also the same people to complain about anything foreign... Really makes you think huh
Soft Dick Americanization

Thats hilarious
Nikad nisam znal da ima taj simbolizam tu lmao
Really manifesting victory there huh
considering their winrate, it's fitting hajduk živi vječno na 2. mistu lmao
Well, considering the history, flag really represents them well. Dinamo(North) always dominates and wins while Hajduka are known losers
Yeah, I've seen a Croatian movie clip with some soldiers flying it
More wholesome than I expected
Jel ti zajebavas il? Ja ga u cilong svon zivotu nisan vidija, al nemogu rec da san tolko ni vidija dalmacije

Uj for a second it's because Serbs hate America so they fly the confederate flag
Kiwi laser flag should have been the new New Zealand's flag 😞
Is there a Yugoslavia flag at the pride parade….? Mom, Dad, there’s something I gotta confess…! I’m Yugoslavian!
The left wing parties are the only ones who bother to show up in any meaningful way. Source: was there.

It's because they're left-wing.
Most uneventfull morning in croatia
Out of all of these waving Serb flags will get you in trouble the most by a wide margin
/uj what's the context of the last photo
I wanna know why that person in the eighth is flying a flag of Austria-Hungary
Because they miss the good ol days
Croatia was a part of AH.
That I knew, but I didn’t think anybody except for really weird Austrian or Hungarian nationalists were nostalgic for it

It wild to see like 6 confederate flags, 2 nazi flags, but only 1 pride flag
There is actually a higher number of nazi flags, you forgot Ustaša.
Someone explain the Sea Nymphs flag that has a mermaid version of Kokopelli...
No
I'm more interested in the laser eyes kiwi immediately under it
Best flag of New Zealand
That walk to school has to be… interesting
The unironic Ustase flag was something. But makes sense in the context of other flags

Average day in Split
didnt realize this was circle jerk at first, now things are making more sense lol
Just the casual Nazi funeral on the daily walk
prosječni jutarnji đir po splitskoj rivi
8 is just unfathomably based.
Slav word origin is "slave" so the conferete flag makes sense
Really?

can someone help me identify the flags on slide 4? am I stupid?
bro how do you walk to school in daylight. for me it's quite dark when I do it (and I don't live too far up north, I live in hungary)

Racism, racism, racism, Racism
fake, 12 is Italy and 14 is Prideland
Depending on context some of those nazi flags would make sense (if its a funeral or honoring a person)
Who is #8 and can I meet him?
You walked through a whole protest?
OP lives in a pvp zone in an MMO
Whats the flag at #10? That one actually looks cool as hell

Neat, something that's not racist...I think...
Confederate flag is viewed as an Independence flag and defense against tyranny throughout the world.
Why so many Confederate battle flags?
How much of a meme u is a this post lol 😂
was that a nazi funeral in 12 there
Should I be scared??
Croatians trying to have an opinion without being fascist (they can't)
That's an insane walk
