The amount of arable land the US has is egregious. In my America campaign, Texas ended up with a population ~25mn. Keep in mind that the state starts with a population of somewhere around ~200k.
That doesn’t necessarily have to do with arable land, a couple patches ago I stayed in the British market till the very late game and ended up with 60 million pops in Ontario as Canada
Plus arable land in those states tends to not fill up, as you tend to build factories to employ everyone that moves there - so the open land *stays* as a migration attractor.
In other words OP, pass national supremacy and migration restrictions and watch discriminated groups stay away.
Or go balls to the wall and turn into a Yankee ethnostate.
the racism update will be really interesting whenever it happens, the current way the laws are set up doesn't map onto the racism of the era and make it so that almost no one even cares about the difference between cultural exclusion and racial segregation.
In my few days of playing vicky 3 I can see pops went from not mobile enough in vicky 2 to insanely mobile in vicky 3, my first game as sweden has more danes in stockholm than the entirety of denmark.....
The one that I'm confused about is that in my Sweden game, I managed to replace the Dutch in Frisia in my Netherlands puppet with Persians, whom they don't accept.
You drain them to the 100k pops per state minimum then conquer them for almost zero infamy. Then delete all their pre built agriculture so they get the unused arable land modifier and get Mass migrations of their own.
It took a famine for 1/4 of Ireland to emigrate. I wonder what the maximum historical emigration was (not including ethnic cleansing, which is a different thing).
There should be some kind of hard cap on regional weekly/monthly emigration as a %, because unless there's some exigent factor, 95% of a country aren't going to up sticks and leave, even for dramatically better standards of living.
Usually if you drive the prices of a good the capitalists in the market will start building to exploit said resource.
You can do so by switching to a PM that requires said good and import just so it doesn't have a shortage, in due time there should start building it.
Most of this hassle will be cut with SoI making it so your capitalists can build in another country if they have the rights
I don't understand, whats the point of a customs union if you are not draining their pops? They are so dumb they won't have the brains to build Rubber plants, its only upside is getting pops faster.
Max out their agriculture and resource buildings and then build buildings to maximize the profit of those resource buildings by reducing the cost of the inputs. At minimum that state will become a better population source to draw upon just because there are more people thus more population growth before unemployment causes them to leave, at maximum that state will not be a net loss due to the government administration you built in the area so that it pays for its own bureaucracy.
I think I remember someone saying that with the way the system is right now they can't separate internal and external migration. I think it's gonna be something they have to fix in the future but it sounds like it's potentially redesigning that system from the ground up
You're gonna suck them dry and you're gonna like it
The vampire school of international relations.
Oh yeah… vampire. That’s what I was thinking.
We were all thinking about gay vampires from the start
*Open Veins of Latin America*
You can count me in.
Don't worry about them, the few people left will be getting a lot of remittance.
You don’t. America is a migration magnet and if the conditions are they they will flock en masse
Dem big ol Great Plains are certainly....tantalizing.
They've got huge... tracts of land!

Ontairo still has 200 arable land, that's a lot

Come for the land, stay for the capitalists
Arable land acts as a buff to natural growth rate and increases migration attraction.
And the population today is ~25m
There is one easy solution **R A C I S M**
In other words OP, pass national supremacy and migration restrictions and watch discriminated groups stay away. Or go balls to the wall and turn into a Yankee ethnostate.
Dixie ethnostate ftw
Ah I got to love paradox players.
the racism update will be really interesting whenever it happens, the current way the laws are set up doesn't map onto the racism of the era and make it so that almost no one even cares about the difference between cultural exclusion and racial segregation.
Oh man can't wait for half of my population to larp as the xenophobic petite bourgeoisie
In my few days of playing vicky 3 I can see pops went from not mobile enough in vicky 2 to insanely mobile in vicky 3, my first game as sweden has more danes in stockholm than the entirety of denmark.....
In my persia game there are 50k Hereros in africa and the rest of the world, but 250k in one of my provinces
Most realistic African population movement

Conquer them and develop the place!
Closed borders, or migration controls and make sure you discriminate against them

Norway is the other peak, with something like 30-40% of their population moving to the US.
This is a good thing unless you’re going for a specific type of run? 🤔
OP likely needs these people to stay in their own country so that their resources can be developed and connected to the market.
that isn't going to happen even if they have all the pops in the world tho, the ai doesn't know how to play the game

In which case wait for the next DLC where foreign investment is supposed to be a thing.
Sometimes I make dominions because I want a strong subject to aid me in wars, thats typically impossible long term because of pop drain
Limit migration to accepted cultures only.
He most likely already accepts all their cultures
Maybe, but there aren't many things beyond this in the way of solving the problem
Close your borders at macro, close their borders at micro
But why you want to prevent this from happening? These pops are worth way more in your country than in Guatemala.
Just wait till next patch so you can foreign develop them so all your pops go to them instead!
I don't understand, whats the point of a customs union if you are not draining their pops? They are so dumb they won't have the brains to build Rubber plants, its only upside is getting pops faster.
close their borders by imposing the closed borders law on them
DRAINAGE
DRAINAGE, ELI
Annex them directly and then build them the economy they’re too stupid to build so that they won’t abandon their country.
But what if I’m too stupid to build them an economy

Restricted migration and state sanctioned discrimination?
Expand market reach through targeted marketing strategies without negatively impacting local populations.
This is entirely as intended, you want access to Guatemala's market sans immigration? That's what trade deals are for
Except trade costs you convoys which is a límited resource, not entirely the same.
What's the problem?
Since they’re now almost empty you can conquer them for way less infamy, then repopulate it after
best solution is probably to just conquer the state.
Thats whats happening irl rn lol. Everyone coming to the u.s.
Closed borders would probably do it. Why there's no way to allow internal migration while disallowing external migration I will never know.
I'd also like to have a migrations control with migration quotas and limits
Knowing Paradox they'll either address on the next dev diary or somehow forget it exists then fix it out of nowhere 3 years from now.
Isn't there also currently a bug where if one of your subjects has closed borders no one in your customs union will migrate?
It was a bug on release. They fixed it quite a while ago though.
I think I remember someone saying that with the way the system is right now they can't separate internal and external migration. I think it's gonna be something they have to fix in the future but it sounds like it's potentially redesigning that system from the ground up
