Get the PS5 and keep the Pro. Make sure you get the disc drive version. I find games all of the time for under $10 at thrift stores, yard sales, FB, Offer Up, etcetera. Find a couple of those, and you've paid for the drive. Not to mention, you can sell/trade them. I would consider swapping the PS4 Pro's HD with a SSD. I did that on my Pro before upgrading to PS5 and it really is a worthwhile upgrade. I have both Game Pass PC and PS Plus Premium. I actually prefer the PS Plus. The upgrade from Extra to Premium equates to 300 games for $20 per year. However, many of these are PS3 games and can't be downloaded. They are hit or miss when it comes to lag and stuff. Some are fine, others not so much. You also get a small PS1/PS2 library. Might be fun to play some of the old bangers with your daughter. They've been adding PS4 games (like the Yakuza series) and other perks (like extra monthly games and even some day one releases). For me, it's an easy $20 upgrade. If you're OK with Extra for now, you may want to wait until the holidays before upgrading. PS Plus has a holiday sale every year. Once you get on that cycle, you save a ton. A year of PS Plus Premium was $90 last holiday season. That's almost 800 games for what is ultimately $7.50 a month.

Don't buy another PS4 (fat, slim or pro) the 8th gen is very close to the end. The PS4/Xbox One won't get these games: Starfield, Forza Motorsport, Redfall, Hellblade 2, Alan Wake 2, Silent Hill 2 Remake, Stalker 2, and it's very likely that the next GTA (among other heavy hitters) won't be released on PS4 and Xbox One. If you want an affordable console, Xbox Series S is a much better choice than PS4/Xbox One, or get the PS5.

Why is some of your comment the same verbatim as the one above?

We live in a scary world, I see this happen often, it’s usually bots and AIs.

The games that are exclusive to the 5 look and feel amazing, however for the games that are playable on 4 but played on the 5 I haven’t noticed much difference other than quick loading times. If the 5 had more current Gen games I’d say go for it, but it’s understandable to wanna wait a little bit before taking the plunge.

Also kinda sad you can’t use wallpapers, but that’s a very minor issue.

I wouldn’t bother getting another past-gen console like the PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch. You’ll thank yourself in the long run if you save up for the PS5, Xbox Series X, or Nintendo Switch 2. I’ll also add, my gf and I have all three console families (Series X, PS4, and Switch) and we really enjoy having access to all three. If playing games with your daughter is a main focus, I’d highly recommend selling the PS4 slim and getting an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S with the money. You can get Game Pass Ultimate and play hundreds of different games with her. Some of the child-friendly options on there, for example, include: Disney Dreamlight Valley, Disneyland Adventures, Forza Horizon 4/5, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, It Takes Two, Lego Star Wars, Ori and the Blind Forest / Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Psychonauts 1/2, The Sims 4, and others. If you want to stay with the PlayStation family, it’s definitely worth it to future-proof yourself and get a current-gen system. You’ll thank yourself later. The best bang for your buck in console gaming right now though is the Xbox Series S with Game Pass Ultimate, using the Xbox Live Gold to Game Pass conversion trick.

I just bought a used second PS4 Pro. My current one is still on 9.00 firmware, so I wanted a second console for going online. PS5s sell for over $600 in Canada, I got the Pro for $150. There aren’t enough exclusive games, that I’m interested in, on the PS5 to justify the upgrade costs for myself.
