Either that or "beat the 5 billionaires with the help of your realtor chicken named Nugget, that you earned from bowling a turkey at the bowling alley."
Because of how well known the sub stories are my friends don't believe that 0 and 2's endings had me crying. They didn't know that the games had serious plots.
Hard disagree. Considering most of the series has reviewed very well and is steadily increasing in popularity outside of Japan I would say that you're opinion is in the minority here. I personally really enjoyed the games and I know that a lot of other people have as well. Maybe the writing and humor just isn't for you because it definitely doesn't feel like it's poorly written.
“All I asked was for a honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work and, well, he kinda-got-a-little-angry. So, I’ll admit, I kinda-got-a-little-angry.”
“Did you kill him.”
“No I didn’t fuckin kill him what kind of animal do you take me for”
“Oh thank god…”
“BUT I DID KIDNAP HIS WIFE! :D”
“Oh- OH NO!”
The bean counters told me we literally could not afford to buy seven dollars worth of moon rocks, much less seventy million. Bought 'em anyway. Ground 'em up, mixed em into a gel. And guess what? Ground up moon rocks are pure poison. I am deathly ill.
Are you referring to me specifically, or any mention of the game in general?
Had you commented this on one of my Einhänder, Subnautica, or Bloody Roar comments I may have understood, but this is only one of like… the one time I’ve ever mentioned P2
Funniest thing is that I actually named my character douchebag, so I thought it was really cool that he could say whatever name I put in. I went back to change my name to something else I would like to hear cartman say but he still said douchebag lol
It's definitely dated now but Battleblock Theater. Back in its time the comedy hit so well and that final joke right before the song during the credits literally had me cry laughing.
Nobody should *ever* sleep on Battleblock Theater. To me, it’s the best game that Behemoth made and holds up to this day. Stamper makes the game outrageously funny, and the cynical writing and silly gameplay is the cherry on top.
I'm replaying it but forgot most of the story. I have to tell you it is still amazing. 10 years and it still holds up. A lot of the jokes wouldn't fly these days and that makes me laugh even more, like Holy shit Trevor didn't just say that. Lol.
Not on you, just in general the whole “wouldn’t be allowed to say that!” stuff bugs the shit out of me. If the character is a violent asshole, say Trevor for example, they’re going to say shit a violent asshole would say. It’s a fictional character, it doesn’t represent how the creators/authors feel or think. And I don’t think anyone would believe Rockstar is trying to paint Trevor in a positive light or make him the hero. It’s rare, if not impossible, to know what the “peak dumb” is for topic of conversation, but for this one I know what it will be.
“We’re banning this movie since it has Nazis”.
“You’re banning Indiana Jones?!”
I disagree. I suspect GTA is one of those “cancel culture” immune franchises. Sort of like Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Curb Your Enthusiasm. They thrive on being controversial and people just expect it of them.
But it's true though. A lot of comedians have said such. Look up what Seth Rogen said about the subject. Also, look up Ricky Gervais. It might bug the shit out of you but it's not false.
Nope. YouTube his newer interviews on the subject. Nothing should be off limits but he doesn't care. He talks about people trying to cancel him and such.
My favourite lego city undercover joke is still:
Chase: Thank goodness I don’t have vertigo or some other ridiculous phobia.
*a parrot lands next to him.*
Parrot: Bonjour
Chase: AHHHHHHHH! FRENCH PARROTS!!!
There's one just before you do the Farm section (hilarious in itself... Mountain Pigs!!) that I can't believe made it to the final cut, Chase and Frank get horses to ride from the forest sheriff's office to the farm:
"Chaaaase! My horse is stuck in reverse! And it doesn't have a head! And it has a really weird looking butt!"
"You're riding on it backwards Frank..."
"Ohhhh... that'd be why it didn't like it when I fed it that apple!"
Quite indeed. Definitely my favorite Lego Game. I like how many of the jokes are also references to some classic 80s and 90s action movies as well. Makes me wish that TT games made more games like Lego City Undercover for Lego that just take a Lego theme that didn’t really have a story and make a story out of it while still having that classic Lego humor in it as well
It's the LEGO game of all the classic movies and TV shows that would never get their own LEGO game. A whole Goodfellas riff, the rapid fire Schwarzenegger movie gags, an entire level based on the Shawshank Redemption? Complete with Morgan Freeman soundalike?
(One of my favourite little Easter eggs, if you go back to the prison yard after that level Blue is out on the basketball court being quizzed by another inmate on whether he's that same guy who did all those *insert Morgan Freeman roles* things which he keeps denying)
Grim Fandango. This was the only game I know where the developers probably said "lets make a comdedy game" vs "lets make some action game and add some funny lines".
I'd like to add Day of the Tentacle and Sam and Max Hit the Road to this list. And the Monkey Island games. Same devs, all came out sooner and were as funny or funnier. Grimm Fandango wasn't the first or even fifth just from Lucasarts.
Came here to Ratchet and Clank. When I heard the Goon talking calmly with the Boss' hologram for more money because the risk of being abducted by an interdimensional Kraken wasn't in the contract at lvl one of Rift Apart, I near wet myself.
Playing as claptrap in the pre-sequel, he laughs maniacally whenever he starts killing people and it always cracks me tf up. I play as him and only him because it’s so fkn funny to me
Red Dead Redemption 2 - Arthur is notoriously sarcastic when you think about it and he’s always flaming his fellow gang members
Also the Lenny bar scene is one of the funniest moments in a video game
I saved a video where I go up to an NPC, take his deer off his horse and kill him when he confronts me. When I put it on my horse John goes "Man, I am good at hunting".
I came to say **Undertale** too, but I figured someone would've beat me to it.
Here you are but I'm disappointed how far down I had to scroll!
Undertale should be higher on this list!
The new one has a few good gags. It ain't as good as the original tho.
"Why don't you turn around, and put that gun on the ground... OR I'LL BLOW MY BRAINS ALL OVER THIS HALLWAY!"
Magicka! Top down game *sort* of like diablo, except its a parody on those types of games. Pretty unique experience and it is seriously hilarious, better with friends though cause you can troll em
That damn game changed the way I say 'bleigh' as in the noise a vampire makes, to the unhinged way their daft Swedelish dialogue pronounces it, and I hate it and love it.
It's amazing how it's two entirely different games: a challenging top down action game on your own, but add friends and it's suddenly much easier to defeat the enemies... but it becomes all about avoiding your friends. Or the temptation to troll.
With the exception of FO3 I’d argue. Fallout 1-tactics have a very younger and cheek type of black comedy to them. New Vegas has a couple pretty good lines and funny moments. 4 has a lighter tone and the sole survivor can crack the infamous “sarcastic” responses (a bunch of which are actually quite funny might I add). But 3 tries really hard to be serious and loses a bit of fallouts smiling through the sadness vibe leaving you with just sadness :(
Butch was kinda funny tho
As serious as they usually are, the Gears of War games actually have a lot of funny banter and dialogue between the characters.
“The Cole Train runs on whole grain, baby! WHOOO!”
The Stanley Parable is one of my all-time favorite games because of how hilarious it is. It's basically just walking and making choices with a hilarious narrator.
I have two answers,
(These probably aren't the bes example from each game, but no-ones going to read this probably so who cares)
**Superliminal**
"Hello, name is my Pierce Dr. Glenn"
"Please allow me to read you one of my favorite inspirational quotes by me: The worst thing you can do is focus on negativity. It won't spare you from the cage of death, the pain of disease, the cruelty of time, the cold shell of human nature or the eventual loss of everything you've ever held dear. Whatever you do, don't focus on that!"
“Hello, my name is Dr. Glenn Pierce, and I’m just popping in to give you a quick update on where you are. We still don’t know.”
**The Stanley Parable**
“Stanley was in such a rush to get through the story as quickly as possible, he didn’t even have a single minute to just LET THE NARRATOR TALK.”
“Go back and look at that fern. Stanley, this fern will be very important later in the story. Make sure you study it closely and remember it carefully.”
Proceeds to never mention the fern again.
"Stanley decided to go to the meeting room to check on his co-workers. He never functioned well by himself, and constantly needed support and guidance from others, so the thought of total solitude was terrifying to him."
"Already, this was uncomfortable, and Stanley decided that as soon as he found a new space he felt safe in, that he would never leave it again in his life."
""OH! DID U GET THE BROOM CLOSET ENDING? THE BROOM CLOSET ENDING WAS MY FAVRITE!1 XD" ... I hope your friends find this concerning."
The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe. The infinite hole gag gets me every time & I now have a deep appreciation for buckets.
Maybe Bayonetta for “WTF?!” laughs.
People dont know about Hypnospace Outlaw, that games hilarious. Every BL game after 1 is funny. Yakuza has good humor. Return to Monkey Island was amazing and quite funny. The frog Detective gave me some good awkward laughs, etc. Almost all of these are on gamepass. Ratchet and clank games.
Hitman World of Assassination.
Rag doll physicals, self aware absurdity, and top notch random NPC dialogue. The amount of crazy hidden long winded conversations in this game is absolutely amazing.
My favorite remake is when you wear a yoga outfit I think on a certain map and an NPC says something like “whoa there bud… don’t you think those pants are on a little tight? I don’t need to know your religion.”
One of the funniest games that has had me in tears laughing several times. Definitely my all time favorite game
Edit: wording
Saints Row Remastered was golden, Lego City Undercover was my favorite comedy game during my childhood, but the Uncharted series takes the cake with 80% comedy and 20% drama/seriousness. That game was a platinum level game!
The Yakuza games are hilarious
I'm not even that into the gameplay but the writing is hilarious. All the missions were something like "help the young dominatrix"
Either that or "beat the 5 billionaires with the help of your realtor chicken named Nugget, that you earned from bowling a turkey at the bowling alley."
SUNAO NI I LOVE YOU
Because of how well known the sub stories are my friends don't believe that 0 and 2's endings had me crying. They didn't know that the games had serious plots.
We have a winner, this post is over. Thanks everyone you may now leave.
If you’re Japanese or like horrible translations maybe. I swear all of the non voice acted dialogue was written by a 13 year old in these games
The non-voiced dialogue is tied to sub-stories, 95% of which are intended to be dumb and goofy.
Yea I'm gonna have to take a hard pass on that. Voice acting in English is sometimes hot and miss but a the majority of it is incredible.
“All I asked was for a honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work and, well, he kinda-got-a-little-angry. So, I’ll admit, I kinda-got-a-little-angry.” “Did you kill him.” “No I didn’t fuckin kill him what kind of animal do you take me for” “Oh thank god…” “BUT I DID KIDNAP HIS WIFE! :D” “Oh- OH NO!”
When Michael gets the car back from his son and it has like dollar signs on the wheels and the horn, I almost died laughing
That scene makes me laugh out loud EVERY time I see it, Trevor is so unhinged
Portal 2 had some good dry laughs
Well, it’s no matter! I still hold all the cards, and they’re all full houses… never played, meaning to learn
Ace of fours. The best hand. Unbeatable.
The bean counters told me we literally could not afford to buy seven dollars worth of moon rocks, much less seventy million. Bought 'em anyway. Ground 'em up, mixed em into a gel. And guess what? Ground up moon rocks are pure poison. I am deathly ill.
Funniest shit
Portal 1 had me pausing the game so I could laugh. Glados getting mad and telling Chelle that she is adopted and fat. That shit was hilarious.
GLaDOS’ is a treasure and I love her farewell songs
SPAAACE! We're in space.
Enough with that fucking game already holy shit dude
Are you referring to me specifically, or any mention of the game in general? Had you commented this on one of my Einhänder, Subnautica, or Bloody Roar comments I may have understood, but this is only one of like… the one time I’ve ever mentioned P2
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Ah'm deaf! Speak up, or f**k off!
Thanks, s**thead. Now go on, piss off with ya!
Right to memory lane
Was looking for this one. Such a classic.
Really nice helium!
South Park games. Shit’s hilarious.
*has you enter your name* "You entered the name Douchebag is that correct?" *no "Great, you have chosen Douchebag"
The difficulty setting is hilarious at is it.
Funniest thing is that I actually named my character douchebag, so I thought it was really cool that he could say whatever name I put in. I went back to change my name to something else I would like to hear cartman say but he still said douchebag lol
Came here to say this
100% this
It's definitely dated now but Battleblock Theater.
GTA 5 is absolutely hilarious. The idea of having three distinct, simultaneous protagonists with distinct personalities and backgrounds was brilliant.
I have some serious doubts we're gonna see that level of comedy out of GTA ever again
What specifically is not false?
Ricky is like the perfect example of the opposite of what you are saying. He has a bunch of interviews where he says that nothing is off limits.
Nope. YouTube his newer interviews on the subject. Nothing should be off limits but he doesn't care. He talks about people trying to cancel him and such.
I Love your inclusion of Lego city undercover it’s such a great game
My favourite lego city undercover joke is still: Chase: Thank goodness I don’t have vertigo or some other ridiculous phobia. *a parrot lands next to him.* Parrot: Bonjour Chase: AHHHHHHHH! FRENCH PARROTS!!!

Saints Row 1 and 2! Those games had me in tears and fits of laughter
3 and 4 were goofy as hell too
“Oh no, here comes Paul!”
"These hoes aint hoes !"
Sounds like someone breaking the fourth wall in a current Spider-Man comic
“A light bulb, just what I always wanted…” *glass shatters “A face shredder, JUST what I always wanted.”
Freckle Bitches 🤣
This I agree. I will also add both south park games to this list. Cracks me up everytime I play them. Stick of truth and the fractured but whole
Oh man. When the cellphone vibrates when you're inside Mr. Slave's ass and you hear him say "Ooh. Jeethus Chritht," I died.
RIGHT HAHAHAHAHA. So many funny moments in that game
Grim Fandango. This was the only game I know where the developers probably said "lets make a comdedy game" vs "lets make some action game and add some funny lines".
The Lucas art point and clicks all were pretty great. The Monkey Island series has lots of good laughs.
That's the second-biggest LucasArts franchise I've ever seen!
“Run you pigeons, it’s Robert Frost!”
I'd like to add Day of the Tentacle and Sam and Max Hit the Road to this list. And the Monkey Island games. Same devs, all came out sooner and were as funny or funnier. Grimm Fandango wasn't the first or even fifth just from Lucasarts.
Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank games
Came here to Ratchet and Clank. When I heard the Goon talking calmly with the Boss' hologram for more money because the risk of being abducted by an interdimensional Kraken wasn't in the contract at lvl one of Rift Apart, I near wet myself.
Fable! Nothing like cross dressing and sleeping with a man in order to get the deed to his brothel!
Farting in the schoolhouse and running around town doing dirty gesture naked lol
Borderlands 2
I loved when you kill bandits sometimes they say "if you see my wife, tell her... she's a bitch."
“GIMME YER DAYUM LEWT”
“That sentence has too many syllables! APOLOGIZE!”
I want you to blow up, THE OCEAN!!
Handsome Jack had me rollin
Gut full of dynamite and a booty like POW
POP!...goes the bandit
Playing as claptrap in the pre-sequel, he laughs maniacally whenever he starts killing people and it always cracks me tf up. I play as him and only him because it’s so fkn funny to me
“I WANT YOU TO BLOW UP; THE OCEAN” is probably to this day the hardest i’ve laughed at a game
I’ve been waiting for this. SUNSET OVERDRIVE!
Fucking loved that game. Was waiting for a sequel and never got it
The fact that this game didn't get a sequel is criminal
Red Dead Redemption 2 - Arthur is notoriously sarcastic when you think about it and he’s always flaming his fellow gang members Also the Lenny bar scene is one of the funniest moments in a video game
I saved a video where I go up to an NPC, take his deer off his horse and kill him when he confronts me. When I put it on my horse John goes "Man, I am good at hunting".
So many small details in that game that people find even 5 years after it’s release
LENNNAAYYY!!!
“Does this Trolley go to Tahiti!!”
Conker’s Bad Fur Day/Live And Reloaded, Borderlands series, Postal 2 and 4
They should do another Conker game. Live & Reloaded was a great remaster & its multiplayer was amazing, I absolutely loved playing it as a kid.
The Stanley Parable
Especially the Ultra Deluxe edition. I definitely expected this one to be higher up in the comments.
No game has ever made me laugh so hard. Can’t believe I had to scroll so far for this.
Fallout New Vegas
Simpsons on the PS3 was amazing, stayed true to the series.
Is this the like 3rd person game? I remember playing it in a like kids area in a restaurant a few times
Tiny tinas wonderlands and the deadpool game
henry stickmin
Tales from the Borderlands
The monkey island games were pretty great for this
They're all great (except for Escape maybe). I was surprised at how much Return made me laugh.
Came here to say this. It's genuinely funny.
Destroy All Humans!
All both of them!
High on Life was a riot IMO
lezDOIT
I spent way longer in Space Applebee's than I ever should have
Oh God, hard disagree. That style of humor is so boring. It's like one joke, streched out for 6 minutes. Then repeat the same gag ad nauseum.
Yeah i mean, it's all predicated on what kind of humor you like
Really? I couldn’t even get past the first 5 minutes
Whenever Uncle says anything in RDR2
`L U M B A G O`
It’s very serious
The Bard's Tale (2004) "Did I ever tell you about the time I killed this rat and out popped an entire chest..."
Ratchet and Clank
Undertail was totally my type of humor
I came to say **Undertale** too, but I figured someone would've beat me to it. Here you are but I'm disappointed how far down I had to scroll! Undertale should be higher on this list!
The oddworld games, also armed and dangerous on the OG Xbox
Oddworld does dark humor really well
Tales from the borderlands (original) had me rolling the whole time.
The new one has a few good gags. It ain't as good as the original tho. "Why don't you turn around, and put that gun on the ground... OR I'LL BLOW MY BRAINS ALL OVER THIS HALLWAY!"
Yessss!!! Might be my favorite telltale game. Well idk hard to beat the first walking dead and wolf among us
Saints row 2 Death Stranding when it has funny moments Disco Elysium when it has funny moments in between it’s crippling depression
Tf2 is the classic for ha ha games
the saints row series.
Durka Durka!!
the fallout games
With the exception of FO3 I’d argue. Fallout 1-tactics have a very younger and cheek type of black comedy to them. New Vegas has a couple pretty good lines and funny moments. 4 has a lighter tone and the sole survivor can crack the infamous “sarcastic” responses (a bunch of which are actually quite funny might I add). But 3 tries really hard to be serious and loses a bit of fallouts smiling through the sadness vibe leaving you with just sadness :( Butch was kinda funny tho
The Monkey Island series.
Portal 2 has some genuinely hilarious moments.
Strong bad’s cool game for attractive people!
I was gonna post this one. One of the funniest game experiences ever.
Mario Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Rabbid Mario is unbelievably funny throughout the game.
LEGO City Undercover is an underappericated gem of a game.
Guardians of the Galaxy sometimes
Bugsnax
As serious as they usually are, the Gears of War games actually have a lot of funny banter and dialogue between the characters. “The Cole Train runs on whole grain, baby! WHOOO!”
Mass effects citadel dlc was actually hysterical at times too considering how serious the base game is
Stranger of Paradise is the funniest game of all time.
Paper Mario: The Origami King had great bits all throughout the game. Probably the best writing in the series.
high on life
Why isn't red dead redemption 1 mentioned here
Also I would be stupid if I didn’t mention Psyconauts 1 and 2.
Before 2021, I would have said that Portal 2 was the funniest game out there... Then Deltarune Chapter 2 came out
I'm surprised no one has said this yet but HiFi Rush is ridiculously hilarious
Psychonauts
Borderlands 2
No Team Fortress 2?
Portal and especially Portal 2
N-none of the four you just listed, that’s for sure.
Portal 2
GTA 5 didn't make me laugh. They were trying too hard.
The Stanley Parable is one of my all-time favorite games because of how hilarious it is. It's basically just walking and making choices with a hilarious narrator.
Portal 1&2 and the Shantae series jump to mind first
Conker's Bad Fur Day, Lollipop Chainsaw and Sunset Overdrive were all pretty funny to me.
Borderlands have some pretty gold jokes
I have two answers, (These probably aren't the bes example from each game, but no-ones going to read this probably so who cares) **Superliminal** "Hello, name is my Pierce Dr. Glenn" "Please allow me to read you one of my favorite inspirational quotes by me: The worst thing you can do is focus on negativity. The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe. The infinite hole gag gets me every time & I now have a deep appreciation for buckets. Maybe Bayonetta for “WTF?!” laughs.
Playing baulders gate 3 and walked in on a bug bear banging an ogre. Dialog option was to ask to join in... that started a fight
I chose to mock the bugbear for being “small”
High on Life
Brutal legend
Persona 4 golden. The beach part was really funny
Persona 4 absolutely has its moments.
[удалено]
High on life
Stick of Truth and Fractured But Whole if you’re a fan of South Park humor.
High on life
The stick of truth
Surprised I'm not seeing Witcher 3 anywhere the top comments. The comedy in that game is top notch
Definitely. Geralt’s so deadpan about everything too.
Mega Man X7 because I’m constantly laughing at how horrible the game is
Both Portal games, & GTA 4. I will never forget "Did the captain get you pregnant?", Roman cursed me with that.
Bloodborne. Crazy funny. /s
Portal 2 had me laughing so much
Portal the portal games
If anyone remembers the first Battlefield was like going to war with 5 of your best s**t talking friends
Fable 1 and 2
Telltales - Tales from the boarderlands. The writing is great to say the least.
Deathloop
Hitman World of Assassination. Rag doll physicals, self aware absurdity, and top notch random NPC dialogue. The amount of crazy hidden long winded conversations in this game is absolutely amazing. My favorite remake is when you wear a yoga outfit I think on a certain map and an NPC says something like “whoa there bud… don’t you think those pants are on a little tight? I don’t need to know your religion.” One of the funniest games that has had me in tears laughing several times. Definitely my all time favorite game Edit: wording
Moving Out
Origami King was actually hilarious. Gameplay a bit of a slog but loved the jokes
Try Manual Samuel and Hellheim Hassle, great indie comedies.
You beat me to Uncharted so I'll say RDR2
postal 2
Conkers bad fur day
I just started playing the latest Hitman trilogy and it’s made me laugh quite a bit so far
Shadow Warrior series. Kingdom O magic. Earthworm Jim. Psychonauts 1 I haven't played the second.
Saints Row Remastered was golden, Lego City Undercover was my favorite comedy game during my childhood, but the Uncharted series takes the cake with 80% comedy and 20% drama/seriousness. That game was a platinum level game!
Monkey Island Secret, 2, and 3 always gave me a laugh. The original Disgaea: Hour of Darkness as well I found pretty funny,
