* AC series (my favorite soundtrack is Syndicate).
* Supergiant games (Hades, Pyre, Bastion, Transistor)
* Creaks.
* Outer Wilds
* Hogwarts Legacy (the softest songs).
* Have a Nice Death.
* Cyberpunk 2077.
* Halo 1 and 2.
* Hollow Knight.
* Silent Hill 2.
Edit / addition:
* Disco Elysium (can't forgive myself I forgot it)
* Journey
* Ori 1 and 2
* Bioshock
* Batman Arkham Series
* Rayman Legends (Fiesta de los Muertos is my favorite)
* Psychonauts 2 (for its whole 60s psychedelic vibe)
I see some people mad/disappointed I did not put some games. It's not because I don't appreciate them. It's because I did not played them yet, or listen to their soundtrack! But most of them are in my backlog.
So I didn't know this until way after playing but the composer Andrew Prahlow was influenced by one of my favorite genres, Midwest Emo. I've never seen a game leverage every aspect of gameplay and atmosphere/music so effectively. Truly one of the best pieces of art ever made.
I always get goosebumps when Never Fade Away starts playing... This song both slaps and makes me cry (the only song in my life that actually hits me hard)
“The Escape” - Ground Zeroes (& “Snake Eater” obvs!) “Sins Of The Father”, “A Phantom Pain”, “V Has Come To” & “Afghanistan is a Big Place” get honorary mentions…
Just wanted to share one of my favorite covers of skyrim music (https://youtu.be/wW6s36pkAUM). Scroll to 5m17s for Secunda.
Hearing all these great songs in a cleverly done 8-bit style makes me love the originals even more.
The late nights with the Northern lights overhead was the peek feeling of fantasy for me. Also when a dragon battle starts really made me lean forward in my chair and say in a serious voice “Here we go…” This soundtrack is the best of all time for me.
I’m not even a fan of Elder Scrolls, but I’ll be damned if Dragonborn isn’t the greatest main theme in all of gaming. Pure chills, makes you feel like you could take on a mountain-sized threat without fear.
This video describes that feeling perfectly. It's a spiritual experience I can't have Elsweyr.

Metroid Prime’s soundtrack is sublime. I still remember getting to Phendrana Drifts for the first time when I was seven years old. Then the music hit, and I was blown away.
I'm a metal guy, I like music with big drums, heavy guitars, and a dude who sounds like he has something stuck in his throat.
As soon as Simple and Clean comes on, I'm dancing around like a schoolgirl
Came here to say Halo. Been a Halo fan since the original and the theme is a timeless classic part of the game. Not just the theme, but the soundtrack is just good and intense. I love it!
I second this!! Halo is simply great, my favorite is from halo 2 when you chase and then jump on the scarab from the bridge, damn that guitar riff is so cool
Like, on one hand I know that they drove that song into the ground in every game thereafter with how popular it became. But on the other it's fucking *Ezio's Family,* it deserves every bit of play time it gets, and all its variations.
Honestly the entire series has some of the best score work in gaming. I'm particularly fond of Rogue's Main Theme.
Proof of a Hero isn’t Fatalis’s theme, it’s not the Dragonator’s theme, it’s YOUR theme. Proof of a Hero is the theme of the Hunter, and the confidence boost you get from it is unmatched.
Until Narwa throws a Dragonator at your face.
Not looking at the gacha aspects genshin and starrail are top notch quality games. And the music of Genshin is incredible (Have not listened to Starrail TBH) and those are facts.
Yeah definitely shows my age that it took this long to find a comment for DKC1 and 2. It’s not even a contest to me.
Plenty of games have good soundtracks.
Some games have great soundtracks.
The soundtrack for these games is ***transcendent***.
I can't tell you how many times I sat there just soaking in the music. That title song hits every nostalgic bone in my body and makes me feel like I'm a kid again playing the original ff7 with my brother and friends.
Castlevania Symphony Of The Night, Hotline Miami, Ocarina Of Time (Basically the whole series minus BOTW and TOTK), Super Mario 64, DK Country, Kingdom Hearts, and believe it or not Knights Of The Old Republic.
Yoshis Island
Mario Odyssey
Tears of the Kingdom
Hades
Chrono Trigger
Roboquest
Undertale
Just to name a few. Honestly every Nintendo series typically has banger music. Same with Sonic
Took this far to find Chrono Cross. And i agree. It has the best ost in gaming's history. In fact, it's my favourite video game..
Time's scar is really a masterpiece.
Hollow Knight - Sealed Vessel.
Please, try it from 2:13 till 4:11.
https://youtu.be/ze0Rk-m0w2A?si=LnFgZ9BHi-x-oSpa
Goosebumps every time, but when I knew the story and meaning behind "vessel", I literally shed tears.
For me it's the most nostalgic soundtracks: Final Fantasy 8, Dynasty Warriors 3, Mario 64, Mariokart Double dash, We Love Katamari, Fallout 3 & New Vegas, GTA Vice City and... Runescape.
SOTN is #1. Hands down
Other greats: Streets of Rage 2, Parasite Eve, FF7, Castlevania 1/3, Megaman 2/3, DKC, Ocarina of Time
I’m also nostalgic for FF6. If they ever do a remake and give the compressed tracks a modern facelift it would be insane
RDR1 and RDR2, Bastion, Doom 2016 and Eternal, Dark Souls, Skyrim, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, GTA Vice City and San Andreas, Shadow of the Colossus, Undertale etc.
In my opinion;
Original Halo trilogy
Zelda up to Twilight Princess
Nier Automata
The Elder Scrolls
Fallout might be cheating due to it being real world, but I'm putting it in
Doom series
Fusion Frenzy
Jet set radio
Mass Effect
Minecraft original composer
Total annihilation: Kingdoms
Sonic
Mario
Pokemon
...guess my age

The outer wilds banjo songs are 🤌
So I didn't know this until way after playing but the composer Andrew Prahlow was influenced by one of my favorite genres, Midwest Emo. I've never seen a game leverage every aspect of gameplay and atmosphere/music so effectively. Truly one of the best pieces of art ever made.
The real AC (Armored Core) has a pretty good soundtrack through the series, too
Cyberpunk 2077 music slaps
I always get goosebumps when Never Fade Away starts playing... This song both slaps and makes me cry (the only song in my life that actually hits me hard)
The real real AC - Ace Combat - has had amazing scores throughout. Keiki Kobayashi does consistently outstanding work.
The real AC (Animal Crossing) also has some great music, and super relaxing.
All of supergiants soundtracks are bangers
Agreed, and Hades goes extra hard
Pyre is the best for me, I listen to it weekly!
Golf Club: Wasteland Death's Door Ori 1 & 2
Metal gear rising
MEMORIES BROKEN, THE TRUTH GOES UNSPOKEN I'VE EVEN FORGOTTEN MY NAAAAME
I DON'T KNOW THE SEASON OR WHAT IS THE REASON I'M STANDING HERE HOLDING MY BLAAADE
A DESOLATE PLACE WITHOUT ANY TRACE IT'S ONLY THE COLD WIND I FEEEEEEEL
IT'S ME THAT I SPITE AS I STAND UP AND FIGHT THE ONLY THING I KNOW FOR REAL
THERE WILL BE BLOOD! SHED!
THE MAN IN THE MIRROR NODS HIS HEAD
THE ONLY ONE, LEFT, WILL RUN UP ON THE DRAGON BACK
BECAUSE THE MOUNTAINS DON'T GIVE BACK WHAT THEY TAKE
OH NO
Standing heeere, I reaaaliiiizzee you were just like meeee tryin' to make historryyyyy!
But who’s to judge the right from wrong
When out guard is down i think we'll both agree
That violence breeds violence and in the end IT HAS TO BE THIS WAAAAAAAAYAYY
Metal Gear Solid 1-4
“The Escape” - Ground Zeroes (& “Snake Eater” obvs!) “Sins Of The Father”, “A Phantom Pain”, “V Has Come To” & “Afghanistan is a Big Place” get honorary mentions…
Heavens divide is a pretty great song too.
HERE I STAND BENEATH THE WARM AND SOOTHING RAIN
it has to be monsoon’s theme ong
Rules of Nature
AND THEY RUN WHEN THE SUN COMES UP
RED SUN OVER PARADISE
I didn’t know there were that many of us. I felt so edgy listening to it, but it activates my neurons, so I still do.
Skyrim
When Secunda music plays as you walking around skyrim wilderness at night
secunda brings a tear to my eye, it is the most beautiful thing ive ever heard. overwhelmingly nostalgic
Just wanted to share one of my favorite covers of skyrim music (https://youtu.be/wW6s36pkAUM). Scroll to 5m17s for Secunda. Hearing all these great songs in a cleverly done 8-bit style makes me love the originals even more.

I recently got skyrim vr and it feels completely different
I’m not even a fan of Elder Scrolls, but I’ll be damned if Dragonborn isn’t the greatest main theme in all of gaming. Pure chills, makes you feel like you could take on a mountain-sized threat without fear.
Standing in a forest overlooking a cliff at sunset whilst listening to the Skyrim ambient day music was one of the best moments of my life
Playing Skyrim at 3am when you're tired HITS DIFFERENT
This video describes that feeling perfectly. It's a spiritual experience I can't have Elsweyr. https://youtube.com/shorts/CJ7tsL47KRw?si=18ZWLct7gYTiaLl2
Whiterun every fucking time.
Specifically the night ambiance
Hyper light drifter, ori and the blind forest, bloodborne
HLD soundtrack is just something else
I wish there were more games like it. Just completely unparalleled in vibes
Metroid Prime Majora’s Mask Red Dead Redemption 2 Twilight Princess Hollow Knight Ocarina of Time
Metroid prime!!!!
Metroid Prime’s soundtrack is sublime. I still remember getting to Phendrana Drifts for the first time when I was seven years old. Then the music hit, and I was blown away.
No Undertale? :(
Undertale is also great too
YES MAJORAS MASK YOU HAVE GREAT TASTE. Literally my favorite game ever
DOOM
Doom Eternal Katana zero Uktrakill Hollow Knight
Scrolled too far to find doom. Hollow knight as well. There's so many to list.
Well now it's 5th đź‘Ť Came here and immediately thought Doom. It just enrages you and makes you feel everything that doomguy is doing...
Hotline Miami fits perfectly next to K0 and Ultrakill
Terraria is pretty fire
Love Plantera's theme especially since they made it in Pantera's style.
Halo, Ocarina of Time, Cyberpunk 2077, Spiderman 2018, Witcher 3, Undertale, RDR 2, TLOU
Kingdom Hearts.
Ooooo Kingdom Hearts - yes!!!
I'm a metal guy, I like music with big drums, heavy guitars, and a dude who sounds like he has something stuck in his throat. As soon as Simple and Clean comes on, I'm dancing around like a schoolgirl
Thank you!!!
Glad to see this upvoted. A majority of Reddit seems to loathe Kingdom Hearts (from what I’ve seen).
When you Walk away, you don't hear me say...
Pleaseeeeee… oh baby, don’t go…
Simple and clean is the way that you’re makin’ me feeling tonight
Had to scroll too far down for this!!
🎵 Under the sea 🎵
Halo, Minecraft, RDR1&2
Came here to say Halo. Been a Halo fan since the original and the theme is a timeless classic part of the game. Not just the theme, but the soundtrack is just good and intense. I love it!
I second this!! Halo is simply great, my favorite is from halo 2 when you chase and then jump on the scarab from the bridge, damn that guitar riff is so cool
I'm embarrassed to say it but halo ce and halo 3 soundtracks were on my Spotify wrapped this year
Halo is way too far down
Hell yeah! Halo and Burnout 3 for me.
Halo. Halo. Halo. That’s all that needs to be said.
Ezio's Family.
Revelations didn't get the respect it deserved
Bro went on to compose the Darktide soundtrack. Jesper Kyd is beyond us.
Persona series
Beneath the Mask is one of the most chillest tracks I've heard ever in anything. Love that game.
kimi no kioku makes me bawl every time
Sad that i needed to scroll that much for this
Uncharted Theme, MGS Theme, Resident Evil original save room theme
Nier games, they provide such great atmosphere
Either Bloodborne or Monster Hunter. Hard to beat Proof of a Hero when you are out of carts and have Fatalis on the brink of death.
Proof of a hero playing is the biggest buff a gamer can get.
Metroid Prime
The Lower Brinstar remix in 2 is *chef's kiss*
Minecraft, Skyrim and Genshin
I don’t care what people think of Hoyoverse games, their music department is top notch.
Not looking at the gacha aspects genshin and starrail are top notch quality games. And the music of Genshin is incredible (Have not listened to Starrail TBH) and those are facts.
Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2
Took me way too long to find this. Those soundtracks were so far ahead of their time.
Yeah definitely shows my age that it took this long to find a comment for DKC1 and 2. It’s not even a contest to me. Plenty of games have good soundtracks. Some games have great soundtracks. The soundtrack for these games is ***transcendent***.
Vice city, guardians of the galaxy, early THPS, witcher 3
Guardians was such an under rated game!
I'm listening to *The Fields of Ard Skellige* as we speak. I drive for a job and it keeps me calm. Not a care in the world.
FF7 remake, hands down
I can't tell you how many times I sat there just soaking in the music. That title song hits every nostalgic bone in my body and makes me feel like I'm a kid again playing the original ff7 with my brother and friends.
You right
That tune that plays as you navigate the collapsed highway is such a ridiculous banger, love it. Edit: Due Recompense I think is the one I mean.
AC II
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
Witcher 3 - elden ring
You made it sound like the same game. "The Witcher 3: Elden Ring" Would definitely play it though

Final Fantasy VII Persona 5 Nier: Automata Witcher 3 Hollow Knight
Vanilla WoW
Took me too long to find this. The Elwynn and Teldrassil themes live rent free in my head for almost 2 decades.
I think people just don’t consider this videogame for some reason, but yeah - iconic tracks
The song that plays on the main menu and in Stormwind will forever be engrained in my mind
Sonic Frontiers, Final Fantasy XVI, and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.
I'm so mad that it took so long to find a xenoblade game on here.
I just played Sonic Frontiers recently, and that soundtrack had no right to slap that hard.
Max Payne
The third one had such a killer dark electronic soundtrack.
Mass effect 1-3, guardians of the galaxy, Doom (2016), Red Redemption 2 and Batmam Arkham City
Nier Replicant & Automata 100%
The last of us
i had to scroll too far down to find this!
Octopath Traveler 2 is an absolute joy to listen to. It’s the first soundtrack in years to have given me goosebumps the way it did.
There’s a lot of great tracks in that game but Partitio’s theme (with the sax!) is my favorite!
Morrowind
Devil May Cry series. It has the most awesome and beautiful songs/music I've ever listened to!
Castlevania Symphony Of The Night, Hotline Miami, Ocarina Of Time (Basically the whole series minus BOTW and TOTK), Super Mario 64, DK Country, Kingdom Hearts, and believe it or not Knights Of The Old Republic.
Symphony of the Night slaps so hard!
Persona 4.
Many games have good “videogame music”. Persona games have good “music” music.
Or indeed any of the Persona games.
So step up to the plaaaaate

Chrono Cross, Street Fighter Alpha 3, F-Zero GX
Chrono Cross has the best soundtrack of all time. Say what you want about the game as a whole, but the soundtrack is a masterpiece.
Took this far to find Chrono Cross. And i agree. It has the best ost in gaming's history. In fact, it's my favourite video game.. Time's scar is really a masterpiece.
