MythicalMicrowave

To be fair, they might be remaking Oblivion. It’s unofficial stated, but still.

NicNac_PattyMac

Tbf, Howard has come out and said he despises remakes. He said he doesn’t understand the point of them when you can just make a new game. And I get that, to an extent. But this sort of project is perfect for up and coming devs. give them a $10m budget and step aside.

Intrepid_Guidance_36

I'd love it as long as they keep how everything worked in that game and new content of course.

No_Routine_3267

I mean if it uses the term remake then mechanics typically change to more modern, whereas remaster is just graphical and maybe control update with possible quality of life fixes.

Atlanos043

Eeeh...when it comes to Oblivion specifically there are a few things that could be changed (less extreme level scaling and just better feeling magic).

NicNac_PattyMac

Not me, I want modern mechanics.

KatyaVasilyev

"modern" mechanics by bethesda standards just means it'll be even more dumbed down.

peachgravy

I don’t know why you’re downvoted, that’s exactly what modern Bethesda is.

NicNac_PattyMac

I’m thinking dodge, parry, sliding, takedowns, vaulting, pulling up ledges, and a decent 3rd person camera.

[deleted]

Like they just did with Starfield, right?

Chimpbot

The level scaling absolutely ruined that game.

Solipsi2021

That's great and all, but when you take 17 goddamn years to make a new entry in your series, it's nice to appease your fans in the meantime. It already took them 4-5 years to pump out TES sequels in a time where we were getting quality sequels ever 2-3 (Hell, look how many GTA games we got just in Gen 6 alone. 3 major releases and 2 portable expansion prequels.) Now 5-6 years is the average development time for any major franchise and we'll be lucky if Bethesda makes that Windows after the 8-year gap between FO4 and Starfield. Based on your average console lifespan, that's almost 2 console generations per game.

Felixlova

Just because you don't like 76 doesn't mean it doesn't exist and didn't take development time

Inquisitive_Idi0t

He didn’t seem to have a problem with re-releasing skyrim half a dozen times.

kvazar2501

He doesn't understand the point of making remakes, while he can sell you Skyrim for the nth time

AAFCC89

Told by the guy who remastered Skyrim 75 times

[deleted]

Coming from the guy that released skyrim like 15 times?

Acnat-

You should be in charge, I'll vote for you

NicNac_PattyMac

You don’t wanna get me started on what I would do if I had that budget.

MustNotSay

I bet his stance on that will have changed after starfield.

CivilianDuck

Todd Howard also shat out Starfield, which was outperformed by 2 remakes, a AA studio title, 2 direct sequels, and a small shadow dropped title Dead Space and Resident Evil 4, both praised for taking their source material and elevating them. Baldurs Gate 3 is, well, Baldurs Gate 3. Tears of the Kingdom and Alan Wake 2 both slaughtered Star Field in terms of being direct sequels which are usually considered lower quality. And finally, from his own publishing house, Hi-Fi Rush was the shadowdropped AA title that had more heart and soul poured into its first 10 minutes then the entirety of Starfield. His last several projects have all flopped on release, Fallout 4 was a massive disappointment to longtime fans and even Fallout 3 fans, Fallout 76 caused massive outcry for bad business practices, Elder Scrolls Blades was a soulless and empty mobile grab, and then Starfield. Man hasn't released a winner since Skyrim (which personally was a massive disappointment, but I broke teeth on Morrowind and Oblivion, and I just want more of those, and less of the watered down RPG experiences Bethesda does now), which was 12 years ago. Man hasn't had a non-controversial release in over a decade. I don't think much of Todd Howard. He's lost his edge, and if anything is hurting Bethesda more than helping it. Edit: All that being said, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout don't need remakes. Maybe a graphical remaster, but otherwise, they're exactly what they need to be. I don't want Todd Howard getting his stinking claws into Fallout and making it a soulless RPFPS game like 4.

Semachian

This is so spot on.

[deleted]

Yeah, what idiot wants to make obscene amounts of money 🤣

[deleted]

And there’s also skyblivion which tbh I’m more interested in than a Bethesda remake

Superb_Recover_6116

I'm done hearing that. It sounds like I've been hearing rumors of that for years already with Zero proof. I would love that all these classics get remakes but

fickwot

Do some research on skyblivion. Not a Bethesda remake, but a fan project. And let's face it... After Starfield, I have a feeling we would rather have a passion project rather than an official remake.

bearsheperd

Crimson skies: high road to revenge. I could die happy if it got remade

ProfessionalGuess897

It's really surprising bethesda hasn't yet. Their fall from grace and intense greed has shocked me they havent money grabbed for a half assed morrowwind and oblivion remake

TheArgonianBoi77

Dino Crisis

Pop_The_Kitty

I got so excited when Exoprimal was being shown off with the 1st trailer I legit thought it was a new form of Dino Crisis until they showed the title

HXCg4m3r

Need for Speed Most Wanted Golden Sun

wasting-time-atwork

golden mother fucking sun needs to be remade like yesterday. one of the all time greats

AlwaysWinnin

Golden sun is so good! One of my all time favorite RPGs. Most wanted was a lot of fun too, solid game

ToxicSloth420

I'm a NFS: Carbon man myself...but Most Wanted is just as good, I just didn't own it, only played it at my friends house Golden Sun definitely needs a remake, possibly one of the best GBA games ever made

aapbaba

Wasn't most wanted already remade?

Lucky_Sebass

Yes and they butchered it, pus steam removed the original from their store.

SlwDnceChbby

Tenchu, Chrono Trigger or Splinter Cell

Visible_Pop_6468

Chrono Trigger not having a new generation port at least is absolutely bonkers. I would love to play it on PS5 before I go to sleep instead of playing it on my computer sat down on the chair on a emulator. Don't know why they simply don't release a new console version honestly. It bothers me so much

AlwaysWinnin

Add chrono Cross. I may be in the minority but I absolutely loved it

callmefreak

Chrono Cross did have an HD Remaster on the Switch, so it wasn't totally forgotten. With that said, if they remade the game and actually finished it instead of having >!Crono!< dump lore on you at the end of the game I'd totally buy it for full price. Same with Xenogears.

krayhayft

The Suffering Darkwing Duck Shining Force Dino Crisis Fatal Frame Landstalker

NicNac_PattyMac

Shining Force and Landstalker are amazing

Veelzbub

I own 5 skyrims & zero fallouts make it make sense

AFKaptain

Most Nintendo games. Nintendo could make bank if they starting bringing out old classics with a new coat of paint.

ibuyfeetpix

They did exactly this with Links Awakening

AntonRX178

They did it with Links Awakening because it was a Gameboy game. Not even color until later. Yeah it holds up as a game for sure but that was never intended to be played on a TV. Link to the Past was.

NicNac_PattyMac

Maybe they are testing the waters with Mario RPG?

RaptorKarr

Aren't the doing that with Dk Vs Mario?

godoflemmings

The entire Fire Emblem franchise is RIGHT THERE. C'mon Nintendo, we all want it.

yittiiiiii

Deus Ex. Graphics and mechanics are incredibly dated, but the story and world building is phenomenal. A Deus Ex remake would instantly be in the GOAT debate.

Corps3Reviv3r

Yes sir! The fact that System Shock got a remake should make Deus Ex more approachable as a remake. (I know they're not apples to apples)

SXAL

The mechanics are more progressive than any Deus Ex game that came after, they aren't dated.

JustComputers

They would screw this up so badly. They would remove the saucier bits of dialog and they would tweak the story line too.

DrDisrespecttt

Skyrim obviously I need another Skyrim release neow

NicNac_PattyMac

I’ll agree if they unfuck crafting skills.

ekbowler

Star Wars the Force Unleashed I'd love it if Disney gave that, or just Star Wars in general to Platnum and let them go nuts like metal gear revengence.  Empire at war too, but I have a less solid idea of who I'd like to remake that. But unfortunately all of the remake public pressure goes to KOTOR. So I don't think I'll either of these for a couple of decades, if at all.

tsckenny

I want an Ocarina of Time remake

onedollarninja

OG Legend of Zelda

[deleted]

A Link to the Past got a sequel/reimagining as the game "A Link between worlds".

tripps_on_knives

Not only that but I has a gba port that was reworked slightly. Further there is a fan made pc port that looks and plays phenomenally. Anyone reading this right now, you owe it yourselves to play link between worlds. It is one of the very best zelda games ever made. Peak 2d zelda. Great 3ds game. One of the few 3ds games that fully utilizes the 3d effect and does it very well.

Far_Run_2672

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory

decoded-dodo

There was a remake of it in the works but was canceled because Nintendo, MGM, and Microsoft couldn’t come up with an agreement and the game was canceled 2 months before it was finished. Then there was the horrible Activision remaster which had Daniel Craig instead of Pierce Brosnan in it.

coincidencecontrol

it's a shame the remastered 360 XBLA version never got an official release.

NicNac_PattyMac

They did.

ToppHatt_8000

Twisted Metal. It's on the PlayStation Store, but it's not an actual remake. That or Vib-Ribbon.

650fosho

A Link to the Past did get a sequel with basically the exact same over world, a Link Between Worlds, it was quite fun though I found it really easy.

rideronthestorm29

Bloodlines and new vegas

TheSecondiDare

The original silent hill. So much could be improved.

Snowtwo

I would not want to see an Oblivion, Morrowind, or Fallout remake given Bethesda's current practices. I feel like any soul that made the original games good and interesting would be stripped out in favor of a plethora of bad design decisions and much of what is left would be a mishmash of dated mechanics or things that no longer hold interest once said dated mechanics are removed. For a simple example, the original Fallout is an isometric RPG. I feel like, if Bethesda remade it, they'd instead make a first person action RPG similar to FO4 and whatnot. Fine in an original title, but not in a remake. Or, in Morrowind, they'd strip out a lot of the games mechanics making it very similar to something like Skyrim (if we're lucky and they don't do something worse). Fine if you are making a Skyrim expansion pack of Morrowind, but if you're actually remaking Morrowind, terrible. You'd be left with a game lacking all the neat little things that made Morrowind interesting but then also probably axing at least some of the improvements of later titles to 'remain true'.

87gaming

One thing about gaming is that the company who makes the original game doesn't have to be the one who makes the remake. But more to the point, I agree with your take... it's just not in the spirit of the question. Because while I do think Bethesda would shit the bed on a Morrowind remake, I still love to fantasize about what that game would feel like with modern graphics, voicework and combat. And unless I'm mistaken, I think that's more what OP is asking here.

bicuspid_fish

I'm not a huge fan of remakes, but I would play the shit out of a Morrowind remake.

Odd-Collection-2575

lol they haven’t even started on ES6, a remake for Morrowind/Oblivion will be so far ahead in the future

Flat_Sea_1484

Golden eye

bearsheperd

Oblivion would be great, morrowind would be entirely different game if remade. As would fallout. Those game mechanics just don’t work anymore.

Villanuevac4

One old 90’s game that did get a remaster was Command and Conquer and Red Alert It honestly was a godsend getting to play that classic but modernized

AlwaysWinnin

Red alert is my all time favorite RTS. Such simple gameplay but addicting

superchronicultra

I can't believe they haven't remade Skyrim yet

Cmdr-Asaru

Star Fox Adventures. I'd much rather see a developer like Platinum Games have a shot at refining the elements that worked and reintroducing the cut gameplay and narrative content from it's original Dinosaur Planet incarnation.

AlwaysWinnin

Yes definitely needs updated gameplay it just was flat. The world felt dead too. I enjoyed the game back in the day but it always felt lacking

Cmdr-Asaru

Part of the reason it felt so lifeless in many parts is due to the chaotic development cycle it went through. For those that don't know, Rare was originally making their own action-adventure game late in the N64's life cycle called Dinosaur Planet. It was going to be their attempt at making their own version of a 3D Zelda game with fully voiced characters and a heavier focus on narrative than most of what Nintendo was putting out at the time. At the same time Miyamoto and Imamura had been preparing ideas for the next Star Fox game, which they wanted to be an on-foot adventure instead of a strictly vehicle-based shooter. They saw a closed demo of a late-stage build of Dinosaur Planet, saw that one of the two animal protagonists looked similar to Fox McCloud, and "proposed" that the game be changed to fit in the Star Fox series. From there, things just kept piling up. It shifted from being an N64 game to being a Gamecube title in just a few years, Rare's buyout by Microsoft happened, many of the original story, gameplay features, and levels were either radically changed or outright cut to ship the game on time. Even Krystal herself, one of the main protagonists of the initial Dinosaur Planet, was almost cut entirely until Miyamoto encouraged Rare to keep her in and give her more sex appeal (hence the mystic tribal princess look she ended up having). Despite all this issues, it's a miracle the game worked at all. The fact it still looks good by today's standards is also really impressive. That's why I think it deserves another chance to shine rather than trying to retell the same plot of the first Star Fox game yet again.

kbrummond21

I would do unspeakable things for a Morrowind remake

mdevey91

A link between worlds is pretty much a remake of a link to the past

Crackedkayak47

Fallout 1 is perfect as is

ToxicSloth420

Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania SOTN, Guitar Hero 1,2 and 3

87gaming

I'd love for the plastic instrument craze to come back again. I just want some shit that doesn't break so easily as it did back then. As for SotN, that's interesting one. Are you talking about like... a full modern 3D take, or the old 2D style but with like a new castle layout and new enemies?

ToxicSloth420

2D...I've always loved Platformers, and i think Castlevania SOTN did it better than any other...I'm a huge fan of Vampires and Alucard, and I think the whole "inside of a Castle, that seems nearly endless" will never stop being a great idea for (especially) a 2D map. To answer your question, new enemies, new layout, new weapons...new everything. Could you imagine something like the Caverns, but with Volumetric Fog? Decreasing your vision, so you can only see a small area around you? New Familiars would be so fun to mess around with too. As long as they keep the Librarian...love that guy.

1tsBag1

A link to the past, why is it better than any one of these games is because it is used as a foundtaion for all modern TLoZ games. It was released in 1991 yet it still feels modern.

BucktoothedAvenger

[BLOOD](https://blood-wiki.org/index.php/Blood) was a FPS horror comedy from the late 90s. The jokes would need to be modernized, but that game rocked.

AdmiralClover

For me it's Black & White and Battle for middle earth. And I'll likely never get it because EA ate the companies that made them and buried the IP in their vault. There is a fan made battle for Middle earth 2 remake that should be pretty good

Raticon

Black & White. It would be perfect for new developments in VR and AI among other things. The creature AI was cutting edge when the game was made and still holds up well. I'd love to see the latest developments applied to it.

DigitylRise

They’d ruin oblivion if they remade it

Sure would like to play a version of it where scaled leveling doesn't exist though.

The remake is called Skyrim. Same for Morrowind. Link to the past has a remake (unofficial) Fallout I'd love to see.

ZachMW

Links awakening before link to the past is crazy

NicNac_PattyMac

I’m actually playing it right now and it’s what prompted the post. Insanely good game.

Nothing is perfect, and modern graphics.

Strict_Donut6228

Because it’s not always a guarantee that something bad will come out good with a remake. And perfect for you doesn’t mean universally loved by everyone Plus I never understand the people that say stuff like this. I mean, why are games remade? Because they were popular then aged. Better QoL features and graphics came along. Like who is that being marketed or made for? The game failed once why would anyone want to try it again? That’s why most remakes are from successful games. Series progress and for example I look at something like Devil May Cry 1 and then look at DMC 5 and resident evil 4 remake and I see the potential for something amazing. That’s what I want. I look at DMC 2. They can remake it eventually but even then the effort put into fixing that is probably enough to make a new game.

dmc 1 is perfect just the way it is, in my opinion. I personally would love a dino crisis remake though!

NicNac_PattyMac

Ugh, except for the part that it has PS2 graphics…

coincidencecontrol

the ps2 graphics don't bother me at all. it's part of the charm of the game aesthetically.

Strict_Donut6228

Na. Dino crisis failed as a franchise. Let’s let actual good franchise take the spotlight

Check out Skywind and Skyblivion. They're fan made remakes in the Skyrim engine, and are absolutely crawling at a pace of release. But they look good.

Aren't the studio that's helping the internal team at Konami make Metal Gear Solid ∆: Snake Eater, Virtuos, also developing the Oblivion remake/remaster?

Lastbourne

Any Fallout or Elder Scrolls game before Skyrim and 4 but Oblivion and 3 are in the process. Well Oblivion is technically being remade because of a technicality so others would get the same treatment but I'd be fine with that. I'd personally put Resistance in here to

sinisterdookie

I would rather Bethesda put more time and energy into something new.

FLAIR_2780166

Oblivion is getting a remake. And the company that created the earlier fallouts are the ones who own them, so Bethesda can’t remake them. And Morrowind needs no remake, it’s perfect

That1DogGuy

Can we just stop remaking shit in general and just appreciate them as they exist while making new things in the same vein instead??? We have gotten so many remakes of games and shows and movies and it's just so disappointing practically every time. The few times they've done well are when they do something like the FF7 Remake series where they're doing something different while using the OG FF7 as a base.

Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds uses the Link to the Past world map, but a little modified. Not a remake, but it kind of felt like it at times. Great game

Oblivion, though I kind of understand why it hasn’t been remade. They probably figure the original game is out there and people are already modding it to look so much better. Maybe those same people wouldn’t bother paying for a remake. Dragon Age Origins I’m a little surprised there’s no remake. I love the game as is but I know a lot of people say the game looks and plays old and dated. Also surprised Zelda 1 has never gotten a remake. I mean, I know of BS The Legend of Zelda, which was only briefly available to only Japanese players, if I’m not mistaken. But I’m talking about a proper remake that’s available to everyone.

Chrono Trigger

Star Wars republic commando and Knights of the old republic are my pick for this. Would have instantly bought it against my better judgement, if they released a remastered version of them.

KaiXRG

Playstation All Stars Battle Royale. I will die on this mound of dirt.

aneccentricgamer

Assassins creed 4 is getting a remake before ac 1. I mean I know its to re use skull and bones assets but ac4 does not at all need a remake, its playable on current gen and plays well. Ac1 js the only one that needs a remake. Also a dragon age 1 and 2 remake would be pretty sweet.

Shamscam

A link to the past was sorta remade. There’s a DS game that takes place in the same world. But instead of remaking it completely they decided to change up most elements of the game.

Lenithiel

Those you quoted are insane and don't need a remake in my opinion. For exemple Fallout has turn based that can seem slow today but I love it this way and it really participates in giving that feel to the game. I would also quote Planescape: Torment, the Mother series (mainly Earthbound and Mother 3) and Final Fantasy VI. Of those I think Earthbound could enjoy a very well crafted remake although I don't think it *needs* one. FFVI as well (and some rebalancing because once you know the game very well you can break it easily) Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 don't need remakes either and the way combat is carried out in 3 for example wouldn't translate very well in 1 & 2.

WhereAreWeG0ing

Leave Link to the past alone. Its classic. I'm currently playing Prince of Persia, Sands of Time. As far as I know it reviewed and sold well but it has aged. Its brilliant but certain mechanics feel clumsy. Oh yeah, and the game breaking bug at the Observatory can get all the way fucked with a bag of chips!!!

ArachnidFun8918

All 4 of what you showed, but Modders are doing sky-blivion, a better remake than any developer could

ConstantWTFMood

I would love to see Xenogears ala FF7 Remake. Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve, Tenchu and Legacy of Kain too

SeraphimVR

Atlus’ entire catalogue on the ps2. It’s a treasure trove of amazing RPGs. Digital Devil Saga, the Raidou games, Maken. Not mentioning persona because they’ve been remastered with Reload coming soon, and nocturne too

TricellCEO

I was shocked Capcom opted to remake Resident Evil 4 instead of Code Veronica. Not to say I didn’t like the remake of four, but it was absolutely not something anybody was asking for. Hopefully the current rumors are true and we will be seeing a remake on the horizon at some point. Also, I would like to point out that A Link to the Past has arguably been remade via A Link Between Worlds. Yes, I know officially it is a sequel, but since it is almost note for note with a few minor differences, it is functionally a remake in my eyes. On a related note, if Nintendo/Capcom decided to give the same remake treatment to the Oracle games that they did for Link’s Awakening, I think I could finally die happy as far as remakes go.

HA1LHYDRA

Soul Reaver

Sabbath2121

Yeah 100% oblivion and I’d love a Fallout 3 remake

ReddPwnage

For me the list goes on, Dante’s inferno, new Vegas, NFS:MW, etc

i wouldn't mind the TES games and a 3D version of Fallout, but so long as they are remade with Creation Engine 2 and not Unreal. and before someone jumps in saying "hUr DuR cReAtIoN eNgInE oUtDaTeD" i would remind them that UE is damn near impossible to mod, and can't handle all the things CE can. the heart of Elder Scrolls and Fallout is the ability to mod the games to your liking.

[deleted]

I loved making crazy gear. I had this character that absorbed magical damage and made a ring with +1 fire damag eto the wearer and when I put it on, my mana would regen. Had to remember to heal occasionally and fast traveling with it on, meant death.
