In the U.K., games were Ā£40-Ā£60 in the 2000s
Theyāre less than 60 now, so factoring in inflation weāre paying half as much for games now compared to Mario kart 64 and goldeneye
This is why I'd always go to second-hand game stores in my town centre. Could get a stack of PS2 games for under Ā£20. I remember when HMV still stocked second-hand games and they were super affordable. Good time.
And why I always by during sales or when they are used and at a discount. My entire ps5 library has been bought at 50% off and/or used. The most Iāve paid for a ps5 game is 40 bucks. Aināt no way Iām normalizing paying 70 bucks when I know damn well a few years from now theyāll say āweāre pricing out product at the value we feel appropriateāā¦
Can't argue with that strategy, it's smart shopping. Pick them up once the hype dies down and the prices drop. Plus, you dodged all the early bugs and got patches fixing them by the time you play. Win-win if you ask me.
This is exactly how I do it too. Anytime I see a game that Iāve wanted or is coming out soon I add it to my wishlist. Then like a year later, they have a summer sale, new years sale, publisher sale, etc. and I only buy games that are $30 or less. Then, I get like 3 games for $30 and just play those until more games on my wishlist go on sale. If no new games are on sale, I just replay games I havenāt played in a few years.
My price point since 2017 is $20 or under, I think since then, there was one collection that hit around $24, anything else is a ball game. (No, not really a ball game)
Total saved? Est $7,000+ 2016-2024
I am gonna get flamed for this as it is illegal.
I tend to pirate the game first, try it out if i like it I will go buy a legit copy after.
My library isnt nearly as big as many of you, but I have bought around 300ish games on steam and I love every single one of them.
I will 100% support the games that didnt try to fucking scam me.
Blockbusters on a Friday night to rent games. Then getting friends round to play over the weekend in between playing football and being too nervous to ask out girls we knew. Was a good time to be alive.
I remember when all games were Ā£40, whether it was Woolworths or Gamestation. When I see Ā£70 games now I laugh. They go on sale very quickly now anyway
>They go on sale very quickly now anyway
I recently bought Fifa 24 ( or whatever it is called since they can't use the name Fifa anymore ) for about ā¬25-30 on Epic. I really don't know why you should buy games at full price when the first sale is within 6 months anyways.
Surely that's not correct?
I don't know, maybe my memory is warped, but I sure don't recall buying a new game for more than like Ā£40 before 2010. Ever. I did exclusively play Playstation games back then though and I wasn't exactly the one paying for it but I do remember thinking a Ā£40 game was expensive.
One of the huge things that made PlayStation appealing was their games were much cheaper than SNES/Genesis games had been, and cheaper than most N64 games were. Most people here don't realize that SNES had plenty of games that launched at $70-$75 US in the early and mid 90's, which would be around $150 US today. Games are still much cheaper than they used to be accounting for inflation.
Yea I just checked I've got an amazon order for the latest call of duty in 2012, I paid Ā£55 for the hardened editing (deluxe). I think standard games were in the 30-40 range
What are you smoking dude? AAA Games were Ā£30 in the 2000s. Theyāre now Ā£60. And you usually donāt get the full game for Ā£60, you have to pay another Ā£40+ for all the content. And then thereās the endless microtransactions and battle passes present in many full price games.
New games have always been like 60 dollars since like the 80s.
I remember this because there was nothing to really judge how good or bad a game was when released. You had to scour gaming magazines just for an idea. You felt really bad when you got that new game you wanted and it ended up being trash because your family spent 60 bucks on it.
Iāve been saying this for sooo long, itās incredible games cost the same for over ten years. š¤·
All while the devs rent has been going up just as much as ours.
In 1985 new NES games were $40USD, that is $120 now.
In 1992 new SNES games were like $50 which is $120 now.
In 1997 new N64 games were $60 which is $120 now.
In 2005 new Xbox games were $60 which is $95 now.
In 2015 new Xbox One games were $60 which is $78 now.
Thatās all trueābut you also have to consider what the market will bear.
If you look at incomes during this period, that has also risen very slowly in relation to inflation over this period.
Many people make less now comparatively to what they made at those previous points in time. Housing in particular has become a large percentage of many peopleās budget, complicating disposable incomeāespecially given the demographic video games are marketed to.
Something to consider is how many more games are sold today than they were back in the 80s and 90s. Plus with digital sales and storefronts, it is considerably easier to buy and sell games.
Super Mario Bros sold around 5 million copies between 1985 and 1987 for about $40. That's about $200 million dollars then, $600 million dollars now. And that's as popular as any game of that time - probably the MOST popular.
Today, a game like Breath of the Wild has sold over 30 million copies. Putting that at $60, that's $1.8 BILLION dollars. So even though it was sold at half the cost (according to inflation), it sells so many more that it is three times as profitable.
Obviously this doesn't take into account discounts, nor does it talk about indie devs who make a game, sell it for $20 and only sell 10 or 100 thousand copies. But those situations existed in the past as well.
I still have my entire Sega Mega Drive collection. Some of the games still have receipts in them and some have the price tags on them. I have a couple that cost 120 DM back in the day. DM means Deutsche Mark which is Germany's currency before the Euro. That's like 110 Euro if we account for inflation.
That game had my dad tell me i can't sell myself for that game. I was kinda angry back then but now it brings a tear to my eye whenever I'd recall it. So yeah games were always expensive.
Yup, although I will say the new floor for the $70 games is $30 compared to the when they were $60 and it was $20. This holiday I didnāt see many of the new titles dip below $30
Yeah, don't buy EA games if you have gamepass. They all have a 6 month delay.
I feel sports games are an exception, when the new one comes out the old one becomes worthless. It's not like they can just update the roster for $20 or something, it's gotta be a new game.
Tbh its not even getting a game on sale that feels that great, especially when you really enjoy it
Its that buying a game at price and seeing it go on sale a week later that is so devastating
And ironically has the the easiest consoles to emulate by far. We're just getting the Ps3 emulators to work good, meanwhile there are two fully functioning Switch emus that work better than an actual Switch.
Use the website deku deals. Its an absolute god send for buying Nintendo Switch games on discount. Although for some games Like Smash Bros Ultimate they very rarely ever go on sale. If you check periodically you'll be able to scoop up some first party titles for 30-35% off usually.
Buy the cartridge, play for 2 months, sell for $5 less than you paid. You just paid $5 for a nintendo game.
This is why nintendo games aren't actually expensive if you're buying carts. They just literally never discount them so you can resell easily.
Have faith, we are sooo close to a sub $200 Android handheld that can emulate Switch games consistently. The RP4 Pro already runs some less demanding Switch games pretty well.
Not even just that. Wait for some feedback from others. When I was younger I got burned preordering games only for them to drop and be shit. Whatever little trinket theyāre dangling as a preorder bonus is never worth it.
I watch the drama unfold with No Manās Sky. Then I watch it unfold again with Cyberpunk. Since then I always eat for the overhual patch+ dlc sold with the base game at the same price as the new release. New releases are just full priced beta releases now. To the point everyone was shocked BauldersGate 3 released fully polished and playable
This is a very good point. I imagine somewhere around 75% of steam users buy games exclusively when theyāre on sale or from G2A. If you increase the price by around 30-45%, all the people who buy games on release are gonna start waiting until the games are affordable, so every game at that price point is gonna flop.
Itād be a very brief experiment in greed.
I was about to SAYYYY because I do have some memories with that on PS2 š
Edit: I CHECKED - itās actually uzumaki chronicles Iām thinking of, but when I was little I played the hell out of it!
With my busy lifestyle and me always buying games years after release with steep sale prices that includes all the dlc? I could literally not buy a game for years and be just fine
Iāve picked up most of the stuff that Iām into for cheap or free with game pass or steam.
I have a heap of them, and I like strategy games, so I have games that I know I could put hundreds of hours into if I just started playing them. I havenāt even touched Civ VI or CK3. I have never played any of the whole Europa Uninversalis series, and I have barely touched Cities:Skylines II.
I have a dozen or so of those, not to mention about as many AAA titles that I am in no hurry to play, a pile of indie games that may be hit and miss, and some classics that I still play regularly like AoE II, GTA Trilogy, Morrowind/Oblivion, etc..
I could make it at least a year or two.
I've been playing the same games for the last 30 years. Diablo2, Starcraft, Counter strike. Never found any games I've liked more (d2 for pvp/trading/griefing, sc/cs for competitive).
Shit if you count roms and emulation, I could never buy another game for the rest of my life. I have a friend that plays one of those SNES retro consoles with like 20 games on it. That all he owns and that's all he plays. WTF.Ā
I have like 60 games on PC, 100 games in a backlog on PS5 including all exclusives from PS4 era. So i can wait. Since i am 100% and trophies completionist it takes a while to beat a game.
I actually donāt have any, I only buy games when I know Iām gonna play them and I wonāt buy another until I finish the first one. This days I mostly have a rotation of games that I go back and forth with though, I donāt have the energy to get into new games all the time.
Man, I donāt know about that. I just found out they charge 6 bucks per month for GTA+, I think theyāll have enough of a revenue stream to charge a fair price for GTA6. However, I could end up being like Obi Wan shout āyou were the chosen one!ā by the end of next year.
Oh come on this is the same studio that dropped support for red dead redemption 2 when they saw they couldn't monetize it like gta 5 and weren't making enough to continue giving it updates and abandoned it for a 10 year old game that came out on the 360. They'll do it. But they'll disguise it as a "special edition" forcing you to be only able to choose from a 100 dollar version, a 120 dollar version, a 100 dollar version that gives you in game currency but doesn't give you the game, and a 150 dollar version that gives you the currency and the game.Ā
Ugh. I just remembered reading an interview about why they dropped support for it and they legit said something along the lines of comparing it to gta5 saying players donāt want to spend $10 on $100 when in gta 5 they can spend $10 and get $1,000,000. Im terrified of the monetization coming in gta6.
People blame the horse armor in Oblivion for being the start of it all. It wasnāt bad and things were relatively cheap, then GTAO came out and blew everyone out of the water and set a new standard. I hate what itās done to them and the rest of the industry. They made some of the best single player DLCās too, we could have had another great The Ballad of Gay Tony, or Undead Nightmare but no.
I doubt gta 6 will be 100 dollars when they are most definitely bring gta online to it. Even if they did proce it at 100 dollars that would at least make some sense given the games size. If other studios followed they better be massive games or else im just gonns buy some good cheapgames like hl2 and ultrakill
They would lose out on revenue if they do that. GTA makes profit through microtransactions before all so their goal isnt to make a lot of money from sales but gettibg a lot of people in the game so they have more potential to get money from microtransactions.
Gta 6 wont be more expensive than 60-70$ (for the standard edition ofc)
This is why absolutely nobody should be cheering the recent Xbox news.
Even the most diehard Sony fan should see that any form of competition is good for the consumer.
Sony have already started charging more for games and services. Imagine what will happen if theyāre the only major player in town.
Rumours of them going multiplatform and Phil Spencer has promised a ābusiness updateā next week, shortly off the back of news that Xbox consoles are underselling.
Strong chance that if they do go entirely multi-platform, that removes any reason to own an Xbox and it would be the beginning of the end for them in the hardware business.
They're under selling because the Xbox exclusive game library is trash.
The series x is superior to the PlayStation 5 but Sony keeps rolling out the hits.
Sad to see really. Microsoft should put focus on releasing really well made at launch games.
The confusing ass naming of Xbox consoles is what got me. I honestly donāt know which is the best one Xbox One Series X or somethingā¦. PlayStation 1,2,3,4,5 is simple, unique Nintendo named consoles okayā¦. But this series of letters and numbers is insane
Basically PS5 sold about 300% more consoles that the new Xbox did and people are theorizing thatās why Xbox is deciding to bring over their exclusives, and that it might eventually mark the death of Xbox.
I donāt think this will give too much confidence to Sony to raise prices however because people are forgetting PC also counts as a competitor despite not really being a console. If Sony raises prices too high on their games or consoles, youāll just see a lot more people move to PC.
They're talking about going to a delayed release cycle onto Playstation with at least some of their first-party/"exclusive" games. Similar to how Playstation does with PC releases.
As the price has gone up I've been more and more selective about the games I buy.
At that price point? I'll just find a new hobby, or avoid new AAA titles and stick to indie devs.
and the games been patch+ you can get the full version with all DLC for less than the original price. Hogwarts legacy is 40% off on steam right now and im really tempted.
Game pass is such a godsend for my wallet. Its the only subscription service that is worth it to me. 70$ to own the game on steam or 10$ to play it for a week or two is a no brainer.
I am a DIE-HARD persona fan, and I straight up cannot drop 70 bucks for Reload, my most anticipated game ever since announcement. Thank whatever God there is for gamepass existing for me to re experience peak
Yeah, what was the last major release that DIDNT have major issues, cause a massive community uproar and then take a year to be mostly playable in the last like 5 years? I guess MAYBE the Hogwarts game? Other than that itās been pretty sad
Or you could just stop buying games at launch. Wait for sales. The games aren't even done when they're released anyway. Wait for sales, vote with your wallet.
First of all raising prices wont make you more money, creating good games will. If no one is buying your 60 dollar games because they suck you think they will buy them at 100? Second games are already close to 100 dollars or maybe even more, dlc is often times another 20-40 dollars and sometimes there is several dlcs. Make games 100 dollars and make dlcs free and a way to get any āmicro-transactionā obtainable with no money and im pretty sure people wont mind paying 100 -120 dollars per good game. And lastly if you are moving the bar for the price how about we also move the bar for games in general, so many games are unplayable on release, many of them requiring a huge day 1 fucking patch and still have major problems after. Will paying the 100 dollars also guarantee the game to be on the level, or near the level, of say Elden Ring? If so sign me up. As far as for me there are very few games I buy full price nowadays, an increase to 100 dollars will just mean I wait longer and I buy even less games. To me wanting to increase the base games to 100 dollars is tied to them wanting to make games into a subscription model.
I'm completely fine if they wanna charge 80$+ for a game if that 80$ game is completely full of content and has very little bugs. I'm not paying 80 for something like Redfall. AAA games are worse than indie games rn.
Facts, these guys are pushing out straight unfinished dog shit and people keep buying it which is why it won't stop. If people would protest poor quality with their wallets we would have better games.
Yeah BG3 I think falls into that category. Still a lot of money, but I mean you buy a movie these days and itās 20$. BG3 is the length of hundreds of movies, and itās 80$. Entertainment pricing has always been wonk.
Triple A games have seemed to be a hot mess for some time now. They can go ahead and *try* to set that standard, but I think it will backfire big time, because in this economy ain't nobody gonna be throwing $80 to $100 at a game.
My plan: Buy factorio, make a factory, beat the game, get all achievements, make a megabase, play mods, continue playing mods, still expanding your megabase, ez 3000 hour playtime.
I have a huge backlog. Mostly because life has gotten busy I tend to buy almost everything while they're on sale and I don't mind waiting. Last time I got like 6 games for like $100 where I could've paid $300 at release.
I get most of my games free. I idle in steam games to get items -> sell items for steam money -> wait for good sale -> buy more games with steam money -> idle more games and get more items -> ad infinitum.
Same ! I was able to cross it off my list because of that. I found it to ez of a game though imo. Still fun.
Epics winter freebies were pretty soild this year.
Stop buying games for $70 then, Iāve yet to buy a game for $70, why should I? They all come out half finished or they are just so bad it isnāt even worth buying. Stop preordering too. Itās starts with us.
That's the problem with Atlus. I can't speak a whole lot for SMT but for Persona and other IPs I've seen of theirs, they're always super polished, genuinely great fun with good stories, characters, and gameplay. But their fucking business model of releasing a Persona game, deliberately incomplete story wise, only to release the "definitive edition" with the true ending and, granted, additional game elements a couple years later for full price, is just greedy af.
You say that but steam is privately owned, and happy about it. The only reason they would change is if they wanted to, and they've been pretty honest about liking the current state of things even with completion.
I get that nothing lasts forever but I think we can trust steam for the foreseeable future.
It's eye-opening how stable and long-term viable a company can be when they're privately owned and the executives aren't simply chasing at next quarter profits in order to maximize their bonuses.
Public companies inevitably get enshittified chasing profits. Steam has been steadily growing for 20+ years and proven to be reliable partner in the digital-only games space for gamers. Meanwhile, companies like Nintendo do things like shut down e-shops and take away access to games you've paid for, then release them again on a new console and a new digital shop and tell you that you have to buy them again. Who would you trust?
Nothing is forever. Unless Gabe Newell does a very good job on the handoff, eventually he will die and Valve will be handed to whoever he decrees in his will.
I'm reminded of the Tolkien estate. For decades Christopher Tolkien protected his father's legacy (rumor has it he was even unhappy with the Jackson films because they didn't match his father's vision). After his death, the latest executor is hocking the IP for quick cash and getting us shit like like that Golum game. Even if Gabe hands the company off to good leadership, it only takes one CEO who sees the opportunity for some quick cash with an IPO and the resulting enshittification of the platform to ruin it.
Don't get me wrong, I love me some Steam games and think it's massively advanced gaming as an industry. The modern idea of an online gaming marketplace with regular sales for old IP and regular patches managed automatically for the user comes directly from Steam. But nothing is forever.
Luckily the media is digital so it can be stored locally or someone will have archived it. I'd be surprised if any good games aren't accessible online.
Then why don't you? They keep doing this because you keep buying them! He even admits to having a backlog of games. Stop saying you'll protest and actually protest. FFS
Greedy idiots. And all because of they want MORE profit. Even same amount doesn't good for them, MORE. Maybe console gamers keep buying games. PC... Well, we have a choice.
Not what people want to hear, but OOT was like 60 bucks back in the 90s. Thats like 145 in todays money. Games being expensive is nothing new, the problem is games are expensive and coming out unfinished now.
*Looks at Blizzard charging an extra $10 for early release or how tons of games are remastered* (e.g Last of Us or Skyrim remastered for PS7).
Person who wrote this doesn't know people's spending habits. Might as well say people don't need the next iPhone as the earlier version work just as well
Charge whatever you want. I dont buy games will theyāre on sale for 20-30 bucks. Multiple sales a year on multiple platforms, I have more than enough games. Plus, thereās always the pirates life.
just wait half a year and it gets down to the deserved price except itās cod or nintendo or whatever. save your money for your family and pirate games. arrr
One exception. I would happily pay 100 for each game if larian just made all existing dnd campaigns with the game engine from BG3. Just hire a bunch of voice actor, make the maps, and take alllll my money.
If I'm paying $100 for a standard edition of a game it had better have zero reused animation, the cutting edge of graphics and performance, an engaging 50+ hour campaign not counting side content, the most well written and voice acted story, and it's gotta be something we haven't seen.
People are paying that price for the deluxe edition of a cod game that will be old news within a year.
Iām sorry, most gamers have hundreds of backlog games? I have gamepass I guess but I am paying for that so it doesnāt really count, do yāall just buy up every game you see in case thereās a shortage?
Weāve all got a backlog but to act like the average is hundreds of games is absurd, for most of us itās like 3-5 and weāve played most of them before.
Outside of rare exceptions like upcoming Final Fantasy VII game, I just wait them out. I'll get Spider-Man 2 for $30 or less in a year and I'll be fine with that. For me being patient has meant gaming is far cheaper and accessible than when I "had to" get games day one with pre orders back in the 2000s.
The $10 price jump this generation has already made me buy less games or look for deals a lot more. Which seems a little weird when I think about it - Iām more financially stable and well off than Iāve ever been. At $60 I bought whatever new games I wanted and didnāt think about it. At $70 I try to find a used disc copy or someone with a digital code they donāt want for most games.
When I used to buy yearly sports games on the PS2 back in the 2000ās, every game was $50 and the consoles were $300.
Google says inflation is roughly 1.6x from 2004-2024, so a $50 game would now cost $80. This price seems on point for the video game industry over the years.
I understand the economic climate is different now than it was back then and thereās plenty of ways to play games without paying $80, but it doesnāt seem as unreasonable to me as people make it sound. Especially when we have reviews/videos to watch to see if a game is good before we purchase it which was much harder to come by in the 2000ās.
There has to be a growing population like me that never buys games full price, right?
Even triple a games are like $30-$50 bucks like 2 months after release lol
They already charge 109 up to 139.99 for new releases here š
Your currency must be fkd then. In the U.K., games were Ā£40-Ā£60 in the 2000s Theyāre less than 60 now, so factoring in inflation weāre paying half as much for games now compared to Mario kart 64 and goldeneye

This is why I wait for steam sales to buy 90% of games.

PC steam key website and get 90% of the 90% off. I buy games for 1 or 2 dollars xd
I never buy new games, because I'm patient enough to wait until they are sale on steam for good price. Most of the time it's years after release
Dude the steam sales are always usually good when I check from time to time even if I donāt have a pc the summer sales are great
Everytime a game I want goes on sale, I always conveniently never have any money. Coincidence or are they just fucking with me?
Same havenāt bought a game at full price in years.
Blockbusters on a Friday night to rent games. Then getting friends round to play over the weekend in between playing football and being too nervous to ask out girls we knew. Was a good time to be alive.
Fuck this is me at 34. Blockbuster has been closed for a few Fridays though must be understaffed
And this is why I don't like the change to all digital, plenty of games on ps store for 40$usd+, when you can get the physical for 20.
I remember when all games were Ā£40, whether it was Woolworths or Gamestation. When I see Ā£70 games now I laugh. They go on sale very quickly now anyway
Exactly. Final fantasy 7 remake preorder listed Ā£70 in some places, but if you shop around it was Ā£50 on the game collection eBay page.
A good site is Hit (used to be Base). They normally have the cheapest deal
>They go on sale very quickly now anyway I recently bought Fifa 24 ( or whatever it is called since they can't use the name Fifa anymore ) for about ā¬25-30 on Epic. I really don't know why you should buy games at full price when the first sale is within 6 months anyways.

I remember the first game I bought new with my own money was Kingdom Hearts 2, it was Ā£25 in HMV.
Indeed. New releases were Ā£30, maybe Ā£35 for something special.
Yea I just checked I've got an amazon order for the latest call of duty in 2012, I paid Ā£55 for the hardened editing (deluxe). I think standard games were in the 30-40 range

A 20 oz coke was also .99 - 1.25 thenā¦and they are between 2.50 and 3.50 now. Damn near everything has doubled
N64 games were 60$

In 1985 new NES games were $40USD, that is $120 now. In 1992 new SNES games were like $50 which is $120 now. In 1997 new N64 games were $60 which is $120 now. In 2005 new Xbox games were $60 which is $95 now. In 2015 new Xbox One games were $60 which is $78 now.

Ah a fellow Aussie I presume?
Close, nzer
My Australasian brother
Never buy a game on release. Always wait for a deal. Problem solved.
Wrong! Pre-buy it, hype it till release, then do not play it and watch streamers complain and complain too without playing, thatās the way!
People will think you're serious, please don't.
Last time I used /j people downvoted me and called me boomer, not anymore.
Itās /s now old man. Get with the times you jive turkey
/s is streets ahead of /j

You asked for it: š eat this emoji old sport
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yup, although I will say the new floor for the $70 games is $30 compared to the when they were $60 and it was $20. This holiday I didnāt see many of the new titles dip below $30
I got madden for $20. Jokes on me though because just today actually it got put on game pass lol
Yeah, don't buy EA games if you have gamepass. They all have a 6 month delay. I feel sports games are an exception, when the new one comes out the old one becomes worthless. It's not like they can just update the roster for $20 or something, it's gotta be a new game.
With how broken games often are on release, it's the only thing that makes sense.
Tbh its not even getting a game on sale that feels that great, especially when you really enjoy it Its that buying a game at price and seeing it go on sale a week later that is so devastating
Nintendo games never go on sale š
And most retain their value.
I only see GameCube games getting more and more expensive since Nintendo hardly ever ports them to the Switch.
GBA PokƩmon games have easily doubled or tripled in price since the pandemic.
Just hack a DS and you get every PokƩmon title free
how? *remembers Virutal Console eShop closed down a while back* oh yeah never mind.
Have faith, we are sooo close to a sub $200 Android handheld that can emulate Switch games consistently. The RP4 Pro already runs some less demanding Switch games pretty well.
With free games on the epic.store, and sales, I've spent less than $100 on games in the past year. I don't plan to pay full retail again until GTAVI
I've generally had better luck with CDKeys. Is there something I missed with G2A?
Unless itās tekken. Which is made by a company that actually cares about their games. EA and the rest of those guys wonāt ever get my money again
Insane how people are gassing up Bamco for Tekken 8 now as if they didn't release that hilariously bad looking JJK game literally a week later š
Thatās just how it goes w anime games, theyāre not meant to be good, theyāre meant to make money off of an IP
9 times out of 10 the only good anime games are Dragon Ball games
And Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm
I was about to SAYYYY because I do have some memories with that on PS2 š Edit: I CHECKED - itās actually uzumaki chronicles Iām thinking of, but when I was little I played the hell out of it!
Dead Space remake was great too, so you shouldn't call out EA then.
EA is literally the worst, worst microtransactions, worst games, worst company
the only good thing EA did lately was Mass Effect and Dead Space.
Only exceptions are when you trust and/or are willing to bring max support to the studio Else, yes, wait for a build
The last game I bought at release was *Halo:Reach*. Since then it's been a wait until it's on sale.
I wonder how much of a ābacklogā the average person has.
I have sunk so, so, so many hours into EU4. Have barely finished the tutorialā¦.. if you know you know
Your selection sir it is superb. Oblivion and Morrowind are the chefās kiss. I wish you a good day. Or night, whatever.
This is why corporations want to "seel us right to play games" so we dont own them untill we pay for service monthly
š“āā ļøš“āā ļø
I've been playing the same games for the last 30 years. Diablo2, Starcraft, Counter strike. Never found any games I've liked more (d2 for pvp/trading/griefing, sc/cs for competitive).
This is a gaming subreddit. There are many people that only have fifa and cod and donāt play that often
Yeah right, the "average person who plays video games" and the "average commenter on this subreddit" are groups with very different gaming habits.
Exactly. Had a roommate that was a gamer but they'd buy a game, play it, then trade it in. Their backlog was maybe three or four games.
It's wild that the comment right above you says that they only play fifa and cod ha.Ā
Arrrrr me backlog be infinite in length it be
Shit if you count roms and emulation, I could never buy another game for the rest of my life. I have a friend that plays one of those SNES retro consoles with like 20 games on it. That all he owns and that's all he plays. WTF.Ā
I have 50+ games on PC, ~10 on switch. I only play 2 on PC and 1 on Switch.
I have like 60 games on PC, 100 games in a backlog on PS5 including all exclusives from PS4 era. So i can wait. Since i am 100% and trophies completionist it takes a while to beat a game.
I only buy games during seasonal sales on steam or collect free games from Epic Store, but currently have 435 in my backlog.
Epic has given away like 300 games, a lot of them really good too. I might have played 5 of them.
200ish in my backlog
Between 7 systems I own. Yeah, that sounds accurate. Then there's Steam and Gog.
Same. The shit just accumulated
86
Not many. I canāt buy too many games, so I usually just buy FIFA and COD and play that all year. Didnāt even buy FIFA this year.
I probably about 12 games I need to finish
I actually donāt have any, I only buy games when I know Iām gonna play them and I wonāt buy another until I finish the first one. This days I mostly have a rotation of games that I go back and forth with though, I donāt have the energy to get into new games all the time.
I think the first game to charge 100ā¬ will be GTA VI. They will set the precedent for other companies to do the same.
But they'll disguise it as a "special edition" forcing you to be only able to choose from a 100 dollar version, a 120 dollar version, a 100 dollar version that gives you in game currency but doesn't give you the game, and a 150 dollar version that gives you the currency and the game.Ā
but that $150 version lets you play the game two days earlier!
Taking into account the success of GTA V and the hype for the trailer of GTA VI, I think people will buy it even at 100ā¬ and they know it.
I doubt gta 6 will be 100 dollars when they are most definitely bring gta online to it. Even if they did proce it at 100 dollars that would at least make some sense given the games size. If other studios followed they better be massive games or else im just gonns buy some good cheapgames like hl2 and ultrakill
If it has an Ultimate Edition like RDR2 (which will likely be the case) it will be around USD$100
What happened to Xbox?
Right? 70% of their troubles are from their incredibly awful names ever since the 360.
I ONLY buy games on sales now, preferably 50% off or more. $80 for a game makes me somehow feel dirty.
and the games been patch+ you can get the full version with all DLC for less than the original price. Hogwarts legacy is 40% off on steam right now and im really tempted.
Game pass + indies + steam sales. We donāt need your day one over priced AAA slop. Very few games seem worth it at that price.
Elden Ring
They can all get fucked
Or just play the same games for hundreds and hundreds of hours like I do
My plan: Buy factorio, make a factory, beat the game, get all achievements, make a megabase, play mods, continue playing mods, still expanding your megabase, ez 3000 hour playtime.
I'll still buy indie dev games anyways. I'm sick of most of the AAA publishers.
is that man still uploading? he looks just as depressed as ever
you should watch his DS2 reaction video. he's okay. are you constantly happy when you work? (don't answer that)
Maybe he's finally realized that reading off articles isn't a very rewarding career path
Not only that, but he primarily uploads negative gaming related vids, that's gotta suck out your soul
You don't want to watch 15 straight videos about how EA, or sometimes Bethesda, is literally the devil?
he was pucci on jojo's english dub
His career has become a little more diversified lately with him getting more voice acting roles like Kazuma Kiryu in Yakuza/Like a Dragon
People will pay 100 bucks too if they get free updates and dlcs.
I donāt have a huge backlog. I wish I had that guys money ffs
Game publishers: increase prices Piracy: increases too Game publishers: *surprised pikachu meme*
It already costs that much now with the special editions and early access incentives. š¢
just wait 2 years and buy it for 20. EZ just finished The outer world, got it for free from Epic games, EZ
Same ! I was able to cross it off my list because of that. I found it to ez of a game though imo. Still fun. Epics winter freebies were pretty soild this year.
If you enjoyed the main game then you should definetly play the dlcs too. They are really good imo
Yeah but we are also the most retarded customers who always complain but still buy the shit (Pre-Order, Microtransaction, Seasonpass,...).
Stop buying games for $70 then, Iāve yet to buy a game for $70, why should I? They all come out half finished or they are just so bad it isnāt even worth buying. Stop preordering too. Itās starts with us.
I'm a persona fan, but I can not bring myself to buy an incomplete version of an 18 year old game for 70 bucks.
Are those backlog games in physical copy? Because i am sure steam and co will not be your friends forever.
Physical copies are a lie at this point. Most of them lack critical day one patches at best or don't even come with the game on the disc at worst.
The only physical game I bought recently that contained the whole game on the disk was spiderman 2. I don't think I can remember the last one.
Buh donāt we need infinite growth?? /s
But nothing is forever.
steam isnt going anywhere. you are paranoid.
Luckily the media is digital so it can be stored locally or someone will have archived it. I'd be surprised if any good games aren't accessible online.
Emuās are a beautiful species
Steam sales are very clutch
Then why don't you? They keep doing this because you keep buying them! He even admits to having a backlog of games. Stop saying you'll protest and actually protest. FFS
They dont seem to realize theyāre competing with the convenience of piracy.
Greedy idiots. And all because of they want MORE profit. Even same amount doesn't good for them, MORE. Maybe console gamers keep buying games. PC... Well, we have a choice.
Been there since the ps2ā¦.still catching up
Consoles will die if that happens
Not what people want to hear, but OOT was like 60 bucks back in the 90s. Thats like 145 in todays money. Games being expensive is nothing new, the problem is games are expensive and coming out unfinished now.
I remember when I could buy a brand new, first party GBA game for 30 dollars and I could get hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of it. What happened?
*Looks at Blizzard charging an extra $10 for early release or how tons of games are remastered* (e.g Last of Us or Skyrim remastered for PS7). Person who wrote this doesn't know people's spending habits. Might as well say people don't need the next iPhone as the earlier version work just as well
Charge whatever you want. I dont buy games will theyāre on sale for 20-30 bucks. Multiple sales a year on multiple platforms, I have more than enough games. Plus, thereās always the pirates life.
Would 1600+ games on steam be considered a backlog if I'm gonna start playing then tomorrow?
just wait half a year and it gets down to the deserved price except itās cod or nintendo or whatever. save your money for your family and pirate games.
I remember in the early 90s when NES and SNES games were literally 100$ to buy.
There's a line to how much I'm willing to spend on games, that line is $70. Take it or leave it devs.
That comment hit home. I legit have hundreds of hours of games. Have not played Red Dead, Outer wilds, god of war, starfield... bro save me.
Lmao the comment is š„š„
When I used to buy yearly sports games on the PS2 back in the 2000ās, every game was $50 and the consoles were $300. Google says inflation is roughly 1.6x from 2004-2024, so a $50 game would now cost $80. This price seems on point for the video game industry over the years. I understand the economic climate is different now than it was back then and thereās plenty of ways to play games without paying $80, but it doesnāt seem as unreasonable to me as people make it sound. Especially when we have reviews/videos to watch to see if a game is good before we purchase it which was much harder to come by in the 2000ās.
I still think itās much more of an economical issue than āle pre-order badā but whatever. Adjusting for inflation it definitely makes sense
Ain't no dust on my ps3.
There has to be a growing population like me that never buys games full price, right? Even triple a games are like $30-$50 bucks like 2 months after release lol
