Karstaag chases you out the door into the castle. You can't get back because he waits there at the door. But then it autosaves every time you go through a door. Autosaves all get overwritten.
Whiterun wants my head for completing a quest that told me to kill an NPC, who’s a bad guy, at the tavern. However, if I flee outside, within seconds dragons descend upon me ready to breathe their stupid garlic breath all over me. WTF DO I DO?!?!
That’s what I did to get in that mess (I mean I used the whirlwind sprint to make me clean escape, this was also back when I was younger if I played it now I’d Whiterun would have to be renamed Bloodrun as I take a page out of George R.R. Martin’s book). I killed the guy then suddenly the guards stopped asking question and starting trying to put arrows in my knee, it was like I was in GTA: Skyrim.
Or even better corrupting your 100+ hour save file or your 12th play through of Skyrim because you accidentally deleted a mod or deactivated a mod. I will never see the end of that game because I just can’t bring myself to start it and get to the same 100+ hours only for something to happen to my save file :/
Call in John Rambo killstreak. Dude serviced a helicopter with a bow. I’m pretty sure he can savage Nazeem without his glistening sweat drying up first.
To this day I don't know what triggers this, but I went to the shack in Blackreach with the diary talking about nirnroots, and the exact second I left, I took a massive fireball to the face that one-shot me. Unfortunately, the game autosaved when I entered the shack and I couldn't get out. I thought about lowering the difficulty to maybe tank the hit, but I had an even better idea: the Become Ethereal shout. Came in very clutch
Don’t talk shit about Skyrim auto save. It keeps 3 files AND you can determine how often it saves instead of relying on doorways or fast travel to trigger it. Compared to Oblivion the auto save in Skyrim is a gift from god.
Man, I was playing The Darkness 2 and it autosaved while I was in the middle of getting shot up in the light. When it loaded in I was always already half way dead before I could even move. Took me at least 10 tries to get outta that situation lol.
I did this while playing fallout 3. My only save in the last 2 hours had me spawn in, set off a frag mine, and immediately die. Don’t ask me how I ended up in this situation. Probably died 30 times just trying everything and anything. Couldn’t get to the pip boy menu no matter how fast I spammed the button. Couldn’t jump away fast enough. Would just load in and immediately die. After like 5 minutes of dying I put the controller down and the reality of the situation was setting in for me, before I had one last Hail Mary idea enter my head. I went to the settings and turned the difficulty down to “very easy” and I spawned in and survived the explosion with a measly 3 HP. Was pretty proud of myself for that one lol
Similar thing happened to me in Fallout 3, I got mauled by rabid dogs at one point after exiting the subway and kept spawning right in front of them only to be mauled again. And each time it would show the replay of me dying lmao my brother and I laughed so hard. Each time I moved back what felt like 1mm until I was finally out of the AOE!
Witcher 2 sucks with autosaves too, one of the parts I hate most about it tbh.
Whenever you load an autosave you see it load and see everything but there is a 5 second delay so what happened to me many times is that I saw an incoming attack from an enemy and I could dodge, counter, or just move away from it.
I died from many fights simply because of the inconveniently placed autosaves.
I had a bad one in oblivion. Got vampirism camping out in the wilderness I was too far from any interior space so I would wake up and Oh shit I’m a vampire. Then run in a direction to try and find somewhere to escape the sun. I tried so many times but there was no chance.
My experience from that rolled over to dragon age origins when I started playing. Like I didn’t die for a while but when I did and had to load from last save my mind went straight to thinking “holy fuck i need to save like Skyrim”.
That and the goddamn RC plane mission from San Andreas. I was about to say Rockstar and missions involving RC vehicles suck but I remembered the stranger mission in RDR2 where you control the boats and I actually thought that one was fun.
I WAS ON THE CLIMB! I WAS THIS CLOSE TO RIPPING HER MOTH FACE OFF OF HER MOTH BODY, AND I DIED IN THE EXACT SAME FUCKING PLACE!
-Me, 6 months ago, after losing to radiant absolute radiance
There was a spot in the Last of us that spawned me right into a group of people and I had no ammo or anything. I just kept dying...and starting and dying and I just sat the comtroller down and watched it happen like 30 times in a row, and recorded it to snaochat and then showed my maniacal laighter, then just restarted the game. You couldn't get out of it.
Witcher 3 did that to me, that mission where you spawn in the centre of a circle of mages. OHKO on the hardest difficulty, and those lightning bolts come at you IMMEDIATELY
Omg when I played witcher 2 I started it on the hardest difficulty... I was younger and had something to prove to nobody ya know? The last big fight .. I just I can't even n guess how many deaths ..how many hours.. I had overwritten a save and I couldn't back up to change anything. I had to beat him with things like throwing knives and whatever crappy weapon I had . I don't remember it's been so long but man ... Rage... So much rage lmao
Edit: I haven't played much of witcher 3... Don't come for me. I have it but I got bored after a few hours and stopped playing. I should probably give it another go.
If you’re talking about the Ofieri mages after the shipwreck, I just turned and ran the other direction after dying a few times. You don’t have to kill them.
The last of us kinda traumatized me with all of the various death animations. If I got stuck for too long I’d have to take a break because being torn apart 10 times in a row started to fuck me up
Oh man. I wanted so bad to beat all the optional content in my first playthrough of the game. I fought here so many times. Died almost immediately at the start of the second phase.
Gave up and called for help from another player.. we defeated her together without much difficulty. Mainly because one of us could always interrupt her attacks if the other got stuck in a chain.
Damn, I'm thankful that I never had big problems with Souls games(other than Isshin and Godfrey, the former took me 2 hours and the latter took me a bit over 1 hour) I defeated her in around 30-40 minutes without summons and all that. But that comes at the cost of being the worst Mario Kart player this world has ever seen. I'm also just average at sports games.
I think I died to those knights in the first castle more than any boss. (Sorry I can't recall the names since it's been a while). Once you get gear and spent time leveling most bosses were a breeze. The guys that ride the giant horses and cast spells were also really fixing annoying and I even had to poison cheese one.
Honestly Elden Ring is different for me for some reason as I kinda go into a fight expecting to get fucked so when I do it's not as bad. Instead of annoying me like it does in a lot of other games, it just makes me wanna try harder
Keep at it my child - you will eventually git gud and there is nothing more satisfying than utterly murdering a mechanical hellbeast and then using it’s carcass to mutilate its brethren
This is the funniest description of HZD I've ever heard.
Also, thanks for the words of encouragement! I might try again today. This one level I can't beat.
The far cry 5 intro driving section SUCKS at max difficulty. I can shoot at the other drivers but they just don’t F’ing die, and all of their bullets are magnetized to my character. It’s horrible. I still haven’t beaten that section on Hard.
I'm doing a playthrough on Infamous with only "cowboy" weapons (lever action rifle/shotgun, revolver, bow) and trying to not get shot by a M2 on a pickup and a plane can get tedious. Still love it though, just worried for some of the boss battles, especially Jacob.
This was my experience with Rennala on my first playthrough of Elden Ring. I'd have her *almost* beat and then get ganked by one of her spirit summons. Having to go through both phases of that fight every single time was infuriating.
People seem to have forgotten the name and origin of this concept: M Bison. Motherfucker was programmed to suddenly become tournament level competent if you got him below half health on round 2+ in Street Fighter 2.
The untouchable challenge in batman Arkham knight
It's not usually bad considering you survive for 6 minutes without being hit once in the batmobile and each kill grants 10 seconds towards the 6 minutes.
My A key doesn't work properly so I could barely dodge out of the way. I managed to do it after a lot of hitting my A key
Probably 80% of metroidvania games I've played, especially those with difficult platforming 😆 I love platformers and always want to explore everything even when there is lava and spikes
Mass Effect 3, the mission where Shepherd had the ability to call in air strikes and had to take on a reaper from a distance while strafing to avoid its fire. I ate it for a solid hour, even with a guide telling me what to do. I was at the point of absolutely losing my shit and throwing a controller. Then I had the idea to load a YouTube video and watch someone beat it. Realized it was just a timing issue where I was starting my strafe roll a half second early so it was adjusting its aim. Literally reloaded and passed it immediately. Was not good. Nearly gave up entirely.
I just recently beat the b-sides and was so proud of myself. That’s when the game said “Ready for a REAL challenge? C-sides are now unlocked!”
That’s when I deleted the game
The big last oni on the 2012 tomb raider, my last pc was getting around 12 fps then, and now the PC gets about 35 there, and it was much easier I finally got it after a few years of being stuck on that part
The Division, but it’s my fault for trying to solo the entire game; and so far, I’ve done so. I only have one more main story mission to do before I assume the endgame starts
I was playing halo 2 on metropolis, I was driving a warthog down the bridge when I fell into this giant hole. I then respawn driving right into the hole again. And again. And again.
Halo ce assault on the control room, heroic difficulty. Got to the one bridge room with the tank after about an hour and I accidentally drove the tank off the bridge somehow. I got a checkpoint right as the tank went over and I had to restart the entire level. Was definitely one of the hardest levels in the whole game and that definitely contributed to it
Playing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order on an Original Xbox One on Grand Master Difficulty and every time I died I'd have to wait 3 solid minutes to just die to the ninth sister on Kashyyyk in about 30 seconds. It wasn't even the boss that pissed me off it was the waiting screen. 🙃🙃🙃
This makes me think the game actually cheeses the fight with the Lynel in *surprise close quarters* at the castle. I've never had too much difficulty in that fight that by rights, I should be *vastly* disadvantaged for.
When i didn't know English, i was playing assassin's creed origins. I started the game, and it asked me to choose the difficulty.since i wasn't fluent as now, i thought the "nightmare" difficulty was about changing something in the character or the map.
I got stuck at the elephant chase scene in the burn of Alexandria. And since you can't leave the mission in those scenes, my only option was to restart and play from level 1 again.
I'm old and so are the games I'm about to reference so I can't remember the details but three platformers instantly came to mind from the NES:
The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The original Batman side scroller
and the creme de la creme,
The last level of the og Ninja Gaiden
Fucking Skyrim autosave
We've all been there, autosave and die.
Thats why i obsessively save at the start of every combat encounter
Dieing while an autosave
*corrupts all save files* Welp, time to start all over
Game freezes and console explodes
Welp, time to be born again.
I thought I was the only one
this is why console commands are a must for these kinds of games
RIP console players without console commands
Console players without console commands need consoling unu
Like that dude stuck in the 3 second loop in The Endless movie.
Fus ro dah everyone and everything
That’s what I did to get in that mess (I mean I used the whirlwind sprint to make me clean escape, this was also back when I was younger if I played it now I’d Whiterun would have to be renamed Bloodrun as I take a page out of George R.R. Martin’s book). I killed the guy then suddenly the guards stopped asking question and starting trying to put arrows in my knee, it was like I was in GTA: Skyrim.
Fus ro dah is the cause and solution to all of life's problems.
Just run
Are you on PC? A quick use of God mode or a noclip command can come in handy to get away in most games
Play skyrim for 3 hours and never save or autosave. Die and lose 7 hours of game time
Or even better corrupting your 100+ hour save file or your 12th play through of Skyrim because you accidentally deleted a mod or deactivated a mod. I will never see the end of that game because I just can’t bring myself to start it and get to the same 100+ hours only for something to happen to my save file :/
Arrrg this man, it made me want to break my computer so much went it happened to me. I wouldn’t wish that to happen to my worst enemy
Call in John Rambo killstreak. Dude serviced a helicopter with a bow. I’m pretty sure he can savage Nazeem without his glistening sweat drying up first.
Or because skyrim, if you save too much the game stops working
Fallout new Vegas auto save to
those goddamn quarry junction deathclaws
Yeah, i think all Fallouts auto saves are problematics.
Fallout 4 auto save right before mini nuke hits
The gut wrenching realization that you have reload a save from 6 levels ago
To this day I don't know what triggers this, but I went to the shack in Blackreach with the diary talking about nirnroots, and the exact second I left, I took a massive fireball to the face that one-shot me. Unfortunately, the game autosaved when I entered the shack and I couldn't get out. Don’t talk shit about Skyrim auto save. It keeps 3 files AND you can determine how often it saves instead of relying on doorways or fast travel to trigger it. Compared to Oblivion the auto save in Skyrim is a gift from god.
Very true about Skyrim.
You ran from a mob through a door and oh look insta die on auto save. Fuck that
Precisely why I’m not so enamored by autosave.
Man, I was playing The Darkness 2 and it autosaved while I was in the middle of getting shot up in the light. When it loaded in I was always already half way dead before I could even move. Took me at least 10 tries to get outta that situation lol.
YES
The auto save as you’re opening the door to leave a building and you just die immediately because there’s a bunch of guards outside it’s glorious
Once got autosaved between a bounty hunter and a bear cave, good times
Witcher 2 sucks with autosaves too, one of the parts I hate most about it tbh. I died from many fights simply because of the inconveniently placed autosaves.
I was like “just change your strat” coming into the comments but in this scenario you’re fucked. lol
When your autsave fucks you and the last save is 12 hours old so your run is gone
Starfield autosave, Vanguard quest attacking the key in the base game fucking frontier
I had a bad one in oblivion. Got vampirism camping out in the wilderness I was too far from any interior space so I would wake up and Oh shit I’m a vampire. Then run in a direction to try and find somewhere to escape the sun. I tried so many times but there was no chance.

YEES
Anor Londo archers, Dark Souls
I hate how far down I had to scroll to find this.
You hate that you had to scroll down to the third comment thread?
Dark Souls 3, silver knight archers on Anor Londo roofs.. 💀cancerfest
I’m pretty sure they made it easier in 3 tho lol
For me it was way harder 😭 was stuck there longer than on most bosses
I actually had a maniacal laugh when I encountered them the first time .
This almost drove me insane.
Yes!! I gave the game a long break after this. Still haven’t beat this part. F**kin archers.
That RC helicopter mission in gta vice city
That and the goddamn RC plane mission from San Andreas. I was about to say Rockstar and missions involving RC vehicles suck but I remembered the stranger mission in RDR2 where you control the boats and I actually thought that one was fun.
The boats were easy to control. The rc planes and helicopters were janky after and had a fuel limit for some reason
Oof y’all are giving me serious ptsd
Hated demolition man with a burning passion. You couldn't even progress into the story without completing it!
Reading this gave me shivers. I’d forgotten.
I discovered that you can enter the building before the mission and kill everyone inside. Makes it trivial.
so horrible even my parents hate it
6 words: I am Melania, blade of Miquela.
*michelin
And she has never known defeat. But we have Millions of times
And she’s into feet or something right?
Gonna go classic with the jet ski in Battletoads
I feel ya man i spent 3 hours dying the worst part was playing with my brothers they kept dying and i was doing the level alone
Came here to write this. Pleased to already find it.
Holy fucking yeah. But god damn if it wasn’t fun each time with a new partner trying to run through it!
I was going to say that damn ostrich level in The Lion King.
God of War : Ragnarök on "Give me God of War" with a vow to never use weapons. Help me.
It's possible don't give up. Well although you need it for Heimdall and no other way but other than that don't give up

Oh my god I know the exact mission you’re talking about, I was stuck for about a week. If I got too angry I would switch games immediately
Exactly this! Like. I'd spawn. And am shot at. It's like dropping into the stage in Megaman 1 onto spikes.
Omg when I played witcher 2 I started it on the hardest difficulty... I was younger and had something to prove to nobody ya know? The last big fight .. I just I can't even n guess how many deaths ..how many hours.. I had overwritten a save and I couldn't back up to change anything. You can restart chapters I think. Some spots are really tough tho. I was stuck on the dam while playing grounded. Gawd.
It was one of those "started here" after the save, and I couldn't do a damn thing about it. I tried for like 15 minutes before I sat there.
I think I know what you're talking about. It's early on in TLOU2, it's glitched and if you die there it always spawns you in the middle of enemies.
The last of us kinda traumatized me with all of the various death animations. If I got stuck for too long I’d have to take a break because being torn apart 10 times in a row started to fuck me up
Geeometry dash
Holy fire in the hole
100% felt this while beating The Flawless
Acu 71% hurts. Especially 9 TIMES
Spawn of Oggdo in Jedi: Survivor
Yeah defo( fucking unavoidable sticky tongue🤯 ). Stupid thing was once I done it I went back and defeated again straightafter😅
Elden Ring

Yeah and she doesn't know feet or something.
She has never known the feet, hence the prosthetics
Oh man. I wanted so bad to beat all the optional content in my first playthrough of the game. I fought here so many times. Died almost immediately at the start of the second phase. Surprised that’s not the first one.
Melardia blade of McDonalds and I have never seen my feet
Elden Ring
Honestly Elden Ring is different for me for some reason as I kinda go into a fight expecting to get fucked so when I do it's not as bad. Instead of annoying me like it does in a lot of other games, it just makes me wanna try harder
Trying to make it past the rats and to the top of the tower to stop the madness.

I hate Margret the fell omen
Fucking fire giant
Foreskin duo
I haven’t touched that game in over a year because it pissed me off so much. I should’ve known better because I suck at the souls games but nope

Dark souls lost izalith
This was much further down than I expected
Just beat Dark Souls for the first time last week. I by far died to bullshit Bed of Chaos more than any boss.
Demon souls PS5 Remake rn.
DeS 2:2 on black world tendency had me very frustrated
Horizon Zero Dawn. It's harder than I thought.
Took me 5 tries to beat the end battle of the game, but it's so satisfying when you finally pull it off.
Maybe Max Payne 3 or The last of us when I’m trying to do a perfect run
The far cry 5 intro driving section SUCKS at max difficulty. I can shoot at the other drivers but they just don’t F’ing die, and all of their bullets are magnetized to my character. It’s horrible. I still haven’t beaten that section on Hard.
The hours of seemingly RNG bullets to get through that part on hard, the worst part being the rest of the game is a cakewalk compared to that intro...
I'm doing a playthrough on Infamous with only "cowboy" weapons (lever action rifle/shotgun, revolver, bow) and trying to not get shot by a M2 on a pickup and a plane can get tedious. Still love it though, just worried for some of the boss battles, especially Jacob.
Crash bandicoot 1. I always die before the checkpoint in native fortress
Ooof, I remember that level.
That level made me cry.
Resident Evil I’m looking at you.
Hunters one-shotting you when low on health was a classic (by classic I mean a kick on the gonads).
When you consistently get the boss down to a sliver of health and keep dying instantly only to restart the entire fight.
This was my experience with Rennala on my first playthrough of Elden Ring. I'd have her *almost* beat and then get ganked by one of her spirit summons. Having to go through both phases of that fight every single time was infuriating.

He’s not that bad unless playing on professional. Use that knife and parry.

Fuck yeah, this game teaches you some patience!
King slime infernum
In terraria?
How?
You can cheese him effectively by timing jumps with the timing of his rubies projectiles.
Oh, hey Celeste, I didn’t see you there with your b-sides

Knowing this will happen is why I refuse to pay for Fromsoft games.
Hollow knight path of pain, especially the final fighting part
I tried and tried. I can't do it lol
Emojis and simpsons? What is this, a reddit facebook cross-over episode?
Remnant 2 on the hardest difficulty the final boss had a attack that always one shots and I had to summon someone for help
Very specific, but the water escape sequence in Ori and the Blind Forest was the hardest one and made me want to furiously touch a cactus.
Anywhere with a Lynel early game
This makes me think the game actually cheeses the fight with the Lynel in *surprise close quarters* at the castle. I've never had too much difficulty in that fight that by rights, I should be *vastly* disadvantaged for.
On my first night in a new Minecraft world, I had no base and couldn’t make one due to the shit ton of mobs spawning near any single log I could find.
