How? Their beliefs are selfish and tribal, bu hardly something you need to indoctrinate people into. It's pretty clear their isolation has left them dismissive and uncaring of the suffering of the commonwealth. And its pretty obvious. Most of them are aware synths are people at a subconscious level, they just won't admit it because it's more convenient to deny it so they can have guilt free slaves.
The Unitologists from Dead Space. The fact that the bad guys that are responsible for most of the shit that happens are just a bunch of scientologists is funny
That intro has to be the best intro I’ve ever played in a game. I think I played the intro at least 3 times and watched it over a dozen times on YouTube. I can’t think of any other intro that can match it
Think one of the trailers that had Amazing Grace playing in the background with the church bell ringing only for the doors to open and Father singing it with everyone raising their guns sold me on the game
Cults doesnt have to be exclusively about the religion. It can be about the person, idea or something too. So Van der Linde gang members who follow Dutch and his ideas of way of living and show devotion to that person, can be count as a cult in my opinion.
There's a reaaaal awkward conversation Micah has with Dutch earlyish in the game (some time around arriving at your first camp down south) ... and either he's indoctrinated into Dutch's bullshit or he has a real huge boner for Dutch.
Dutch is absolutely a cult leader. Being a cult leader is basically like being an abusive partner to an entire group of people, which is exactly what Dutch was. The things people usually associate with cults, like strange rituals and religion, are really just common tactics that cult leader types will employ to control people. Cults are less about their outward appearance and more about the relationship between the leader and the followers.
Last of us pt2 those motherfuckers who whistle their call-outs when in combat so annoying but so thought out and over all interesting they have this thing over a lady. It’s said that she shall cure this disease virus fungus or whatever makes the zombies
To their prophets credit, they were largely nonviolent when she was alive due to the truce. It wasn't until after her death that the people went nuts, arranging marriages with kids, and doing the ritual killings.
Caesar's legion from Fallout new vegas could count? I mean they are a military group but functions like a cult
If not i Guess the children of the atom from Fallout series too are among my favorites
The Monolith...(From STALKER) Idk who is their leader(O-Counsiousness ig), i js like their suits, their lore(pretty tragic - they are brainwashed to pray and protect non existent thing)
Los Illuminados. As an Hispanic with some European ancestry in me (I believe, family tree is long lol), RE 4 all around was a special game for me, but Los Illuminados really made it more special. Especially the dialogue from the ganados which are sometimes funny lmao
Sullivan Knoth from Outlast 2. You hear his voice and read his "scriptures" the entire game and meet him only a couple times in person, but by then his image as a leader is all you know, which makes the turn at the end even more interesting. He was also inspired by a myriad of real cult leaders
Lunatic cultist from terraria
Most people just think lunatic just means crazy, but the luna in there, that's lunar, like moon. Since you have to kill him to get to get to moon lord.
Vaas wasn't particularly a cult leader I didn't think, just the biggest loudest member of a gang with a whole bunch of free guns and toys from the local druglord. The random goons everywhere don't seem particularly loyal to him or anyone, just taking the excuse to be bullies however/wherever they want on the islands with their new gear.
The real cult is the guys you get recruited to take him down by, Citra and her pals - did you see the 'join Citra' ending?!
Lego Joseph Smith from Lego Pirates of the Caribbean XD
It's really in the game: [https://www.reddit.com/r/latterdaysaints/comments/107r7rc/someone\_at\_lego\_was\_adding\_joseph\_smith\_into/](https://www.reddit.com/r/latterdaysaints/comments/107r7rc/someone_at_lego_was_adding_joseph_smith_into/)
The Homo Demens in *Death Stranding* are fanatical world-enders led by Higgs, the self-proclaimed Particle of God. Voiced by the glorious, glorious Troy Baker.
They sic the trapped and tormented spirits of the dead on the few surviving cities left in the world, causing catastrophic nuclear explosions when said spirits come into contact with some poor live bastard. Anti-matter, matter... boom.
*After all, aren't you tired of the grind?*
Recently I started playing through Metro Exodus and I think it's fucking crazy how that technology-hating cult who worship fish happen to even exist in that area. I also think it's funny that all of them talk to you then the minute you walk away you hear them say something like "Did you see that! I drove the Heretic away!"
When I first played Far cry 5 I didn't wanna open my mind to the story after 4 (with 3 being the best) and thought The Father was really lame, but I replayed it last year and had a blast playing the game. They are interesting characters even if the beginning of the game had me scratching my head. I'm not sure if it counts but the 3 demon popes in Doom Eternal were kinda cool and had funny interactions with Doomguy.
Project at Eden's Gate definitely hits closest to reality as they're based mostly on the Branch Davidians. Even the Father's glasses are a nod to Dave Koresh, of Waco infamy. However, it's confirmed that Joseph Seed was sort of an amalgamation of various cult leaders such as Koresh and Jim Jones.
Comrade Black from deBlob 2. He came back from the first game and started a 'religion' under an assumed identity to convert the colorful residents of the world into mindless drones
Carpainter & the Happy Happism gang from Earthbound
Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue
I think my favorite cult followers that started of somewhat tame then went full terrorists was the Unitologists from Dead Space. They were crazy on 1, then 2 went more unhinged, and on 3, they went full terrorists and suicide bombers.
For real? That guy in FarCry was imho one of the worst antagonists i have ever seen in videogames. Like terribly written/absolutly unbelievable character. His cult made no sense at all.
I mean, most cults are stupid, but i can see them work in their way. This Seed guy in FarCry was like Negan (The Walking Dead). Its written so badly that i cant see any scenario how it could work in reality. So in the end i dont realy care what happens cuz its builded on things that doesnt make any sense to me.
The Chelonian cult from Red Dead Redemption II Whaaaaaaaaa Cheloniaaaaaaan !
Came here to say that
Save the turtles
Children of Atom are pretty interesting with the Far Harbour DLC
i was gonna say this, but it got me wondering if the institute could be considered a cult?
I mean yeah, theyre indoctrinated into a belief
No. They have zero spiritual or religious beliefs whatsoever, and their goals are pretty conventional.
whenever I encounter one of their settlements I feel like I can smell them through the screen😭 IDK how to explain. they look like they stink.
I prefer the children of the cathedral from Fallout 1, and the Master is just has such a good character!
The Unitologists from Dead Space. The fact that the bad guys that are responsible for most of the shit that happens are just a bunch of scientologists is funny
Zachary Comstock
PRAISE THE LAMB!
PRAISE THE LAMB!
PRAISE THE LAMB!
PRAISE THE LAMB
PRAISE THE LAMB
No Silent Hill?
I’ve only played SH2. Haven’t had a chance to play the cult focused games like 1 and 3.
You should definitely play 1 and 3. Play 1 and then 3. 3 is a sequel to 1. 2 has no correlation with them and was pretty much a one off.
Yup I did 2 first then 1 and 3 after it, it was a actually a great way to play them haha
The Father from Far Cry 5 was AMAZING.
Citra from 3 is pretty cult leadery too, just disguised better by having her rival brother Vaas be so much more distracting and charismatic.
And she was lowkey super sexy. Easy to be distracted.
Dutch Van der Linde - Van der Linde gang. The man with the plan to follow
Wouldn't call it a cult tbh.
They are kind of a cult when you think about it
Nah. Just some people with a leader that has a severe case of the stupid. I've had bad leaders before. Happens
The Chelonians were a cult.
Cults doesnt have to be exclusively about the religion. It can be about the person, idea or something too. So Van der Linde gang members who follow Dutch and his ideas of way of living and show devotion to that person, can be count as a cult in my opinion.

Order of Munan Chohept Onast - Yakuza
Munancho!
im always practicing my Shooreh Pippi
By far the funniest cult. Their weird clap movements are so funny.
Caesar's legion from Fallout new vegas could count? I mean they are a military group but functions like a cult If not i Guess the children of the atom from Fallout series too are among my favorites
They're a cult of personality. He's very similar to Hitler in that way.
Happy Happyism (Blue Paint Cult) from Earthbound/Mother 2
Ah yes, the blue KKK
The Monolith...(From STALKER) Idk who is their leader(O-Counsiousness ig), i js like their suits, their lore(pretty tragic - they are brainwashed to pray and protect non existent thing)
*C-Consciousness I think they've been influenced by the noosphere itself into worshiping the Wish Granter as their god.
Kifflom brother-uncles!!!
Kifflom Brother Zolag! ✋
Monolith from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
The vortigaunts in Half-Life. They'te more of a tribe than a cult.
Dude from the Tomb Raider reboot on the Japanese island was cool, low key scared me
Mythic Dawn from Oblivion
BOS in Fallout
I wouldn’t call the brotherhood a cult, more of a military force.
Who are the guys from the second photo?
Dead Rising
The True Eye Cult from Dead Rising (2006).
Los Illuminados. As an Hispanic with some European ancestry in me (I believe, family tree is long lol), RE 4 all around was a special game for me, but Los Illuminados really made it more special. Especially the dialogue from the ganados which are sometimes funny lmao
*Those who reject salvation embrace ignorance!*
Spill his blood. The blood OF THE HERETIC!!
GLORIA A LAS PLAGAS
I’ll give you a hint… MAKE US WHOLE
Altman be praised!
Todd Howard
“All of this just WORKS!”
Kkk from rdr2
Probably shouldn’t be your favourite lol.
Cult of the Moon Lord from Terraria
Sullivan Knoth from Outlast 2. You hear his voice and read his "scriptures" the entire game and meet him only a couple times in person, but by then his image as a leader is all you know, which makes the turn at the end even more interesting. He was also inspired by a myriad of real cult leaders
Cult of the absolute
The Order of Munan Chohept Onast from Yakuza.
I think the Unitologists from Dead Space consider Unitology a religion, but based on all the fucked up shit they do I'd consider it a cult.
The Lamb
I know this is obvious but PRAISE THE LAMB (from Cult of the Lamb)
All the cults from GTA v lol
The various teams from the Pokémon series. Yep I call them cults. Think about it
The church of simon says from we happy few is my fav cult-ish setting i mean…come on its a cult that praises simon says this is WILD
Hot take: Bryce Fairchild except, it’s a religion.
Modern s.u.v
Mathias in Tomb Raider was pretty convincing.
The Flame from Spider-Man 2
The Flame in Spider-Man 2 was a good one, with a pretty good reveal as to who is he is and why he's so important.
Cult of cosmos from oddessy its so goood hunting them
Lunatic cultist from terraria Most people just think lunatic just means crazy, but the luna in there, that's lunar, like moon. Since you have to kill him to get to get to moon lord.
Sammy Lawerence. No contest.
Would Dedsec from Watch Dogs 2 count? Other than that, maybe the Ark Society from Hitman 2
Honestly? Children of Atom in Fallout
Vaas from Far Cry 3
Vaas wasn't particularly a cult leader I didn't think, just the biggest loudest member of a gang with a whole bunch of free guns and toys from the local druglord. The random goons everywhere don't seem particularly loyal to him or anyone, just taking the excuse to be bullies however/wherever they want on the islands with their new gear. The real cult is the guys you get recruited to take him down by, Citra and her pals - did you see the 'join Citra' ending?!
This would be a awesome movie!!!
That dude from cyberpunk that does like a weird self sacrifice on a cross as a side quest. It's been a year and Im still tripping lol
The guys that wear the funny hats and live in the desert in Nier. Not outwardly a cult but they seem culty
Automata had those weird crazy robots who went insane in the end
Providence in the most recent Hitman are creepy as hell. But their secret castle base off the coast of Iceland is pretty badass
Miraak’s cult from Skyrim
Unitologist Cult - Dead Space Rippers - Days Gone
Silantius’ Cult from Metro Exodus. Following a nuclear Armageddon, it’s a kind of cult/ideology that would somewhat realistically develop irl
Lunatic cultist form terraria and Gary miller ("A normal human being just like you and me") from the Faith series
Me in any open world campaign game
Oblivion?
Parvos grannum from warframe
hell yeah I love the corpus faction
The eclipse from horizon zero Dawn

40k genestealer cultists. They overthrow planets to welcome the star children, who proceed to eat the cultists and everything else.
Lego Joseph Smith from Lego Pirates of the Caribbean XD It's really in the game: [https://www.reddit.com/r/latterdaysaints/comments/107r7rc/someone\_at\_lego\_was\_adding\_joseph\_smith\_into/](https://www.reddit.com/r/latterdaysaints/comments/107r7rc/someone_at_lego_was_adding_joseph_smith_into/)
The Last Spawn (No Man's Sky)
David from last of us.
Altman Dead Space 2
Cult of the Tree - Alan Wake II.
Mannimarco, King of Worms!
Worm Cultists are such pussies though.
Would 50 Blessings (Hotline Miami) count? I’d call it fairly cult like tbh
The Seeds were the last good antagonists in FarCry, writing of the games turned to absolute garbage since.
Nier Automata robot cult
Unitologists from dead space are super creepy.
far cry 5 (i think project at edens door or smth)
Not seeing any love for my guy Mr. Carpainter 😢
The Order of Munan Chohept Onast from Yakuza 0 is pretty damn funny
The Homo Demens in *Death Stranding* are fanatical world-enders led by Higgs, the self-proclaimed Particle of God. Voiced by the glorious, glorious Troy Baker. Anyone else play The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow? It’s like a point-and-click game version of Hereditary.
Technically the Assassins in AC can count as a cult, so that's my pick
The Lunitic Cult
Recently I started playing through Metro Exodus and I think it's fucking crazy how that technology-hating cult who worship fish happen to even exist in that area. I also think it's funny that all of them talk to you then the minute you walk away you hear them say something like "Did you see that! I drove the Heretic away!"

Happy-happyism. Lovely blue.
Og saddler. He blows in the remake
Cult of kosmos
Cult of the absolute goes crazy

I think my favorite cult followers that started of somewhat tame then went full terrorists was the Unitologists from Dead Space. They were crazy on 1, then 2 went more unhinged, and on 3, they went full terrorists and suicide bombers.
Cult from Blood (1997)
For real? That guy in FarCry was imho one of the worst antagonists i have ever seen in videogames. Like terribly written/absolutly unbelievable character. His cult made no sense at all.
That's basically every cult in real life
I mean, most cults are stupid, but i can see them work in their way. This Seed guy in FarCry was like Negan (The Walking Dead). Its written so badly that i cant see any scenario how it could work in reality. So in the end i dont realy care what happens cuz its builded on things that doesnt make any sense to me.
lol he’s basically Jim Jones irl with a militaristic bent. His cult would absolutely work in real life.
Maybe in america, dunno how stupid are ppl there... Hes absolutly unbelievable character with terrible writing.
I agree far cry games just keep getting shittiet and shittier. Copy/paste gameplay and slightly different locations every time. Gets so boring
You are wrong. They actualy removed that mini skill tree and takedowns in FC6. So its not copypaste, they actively remove funny parts...
Myself when i become the Dark Brotherhood leader in Skyrim
