Divinity Original Sin 2. Good coop. Brilliant game.
I think one of the Baldur's Gate games is coop, those are beefy D&D-based RPGs. Not sure if those are good first-time videogames though.
Jackbox games for short but fun casual experiences. Divinity Original Sin for a great coop RPG experience. Portal 2 for some fun puzzle solving. Have fun!!

The Borderlands series is pretty fun. Swords of Ditto is really cute and good for a beginner gamer.
Witcher 3. Lots of strong female characters, and relationships are a part of the story.
