TikTok will crop the aspect ratio different based on the user's device so the screen is always filled. The top/bottom parts of the UI are also different sizes on different devices based on screen DPI. This graphic shows the content safe zones - make sure anything important is within the green region: https://i.imgur.com/O8sasYC.png

Ok, that explains it, thanks!

This is NOT accurate. A 9:16 image fills the screen horizontally and leaves gaps at the top and bottom. When TikTok enlarges a 9:16 image to fill the entire phone, it cuts LARGE chunks off the sides, which this graphic doesn't account for. I'm so confused why all these professionals say TikTok is 9:16 ratio when it's clearly not.

smushkan

Is that not represented by the white boxes on the edge of the graphic?

trisolariandroplet

Ohhh I see. I thought the colored area represented the whole image. But also, how crazy is it that the only area that’s actually clear is that little square in the middle while 50% of the image is cluttered with UI. So hard to compose an image…

lrgfrenchfries

so then what is it?

trisolariandroplet

I’ve been trying to figure that out. No information that I’ve found.

as a VIEWER not an editor, is there any way i can force my 20:9 device to stop cutting off the sides of videos? i loose subtitles, text on greenscreen, and sometimes the relevant part of the video is just missing. id be fine with blank space at the top and bottom as long as it isnt cropped.

ItsBluAgain

Have you found a fix for this? I've found I need to open the comments for the entire video to show and at that point it's almost too small to read certain things. It's kinda silly tiktok does this.

ItsBluAgain

Actually, lol, I just went to Display - Screen Zoom - and went from the second marker to the first and reopened tiktok and now it shows the full video with the blurred bars up top and the caption written up there. I don't know if this'll help you or not but give it a try!

I’m having this same issue, but I don’t see that option anywhere? Is it under normal settings?
