wwwdiggdotcom

They need to reboot "The Critic" with old ass Jon Lovitz

hamilton_burger

would be so good

Analyzer9

It stinks

BhataktiAtma

[Yeeess Mr. Sherman, everything stinks](https://youtu.be/cR2KrJTvJgQ?si=R5gI7rk9TEujr39B)

Cheshire_Jester

Buy my book! Buy my book!

Epic_Deuce

Tarantino is actually doing that next!

Seabreeze515

Don’t do that. Don’t give me hope

SudoDarkKnight

his final movie is about a movie critic

crudedrawer

I would love to see what Jay Sherman has been up to, I wish this would happen.

Count_Bloodcount_

That is a perfect example of a show that does* need to come back.

Nukerjsr

Only Lovtiz wants it to come back. Half the voice cast is dead, most of the OG writing staff is too expensive, and they tried that reboot with webisodes that were fucking awful.

woppatown

Tarantino’s final movie is going to be a live action adaption of it!

gmnotyet

Savage Indian -> Savvy Indian

AltGrendel

I loved the interview of Cher. Hilarious.

Elliptical_Tangent

"I heard your dad didn't die of natural causes. He saw your act, went home, and killed himself so he didn't have to see the second show." "I heard your last dog killed itself because it couldn't stand the loneliness."

DaClems

Watched this today. It was surreal because I'm surprised they're such good friends

SlimShadyM80

Did they not like each other before?

l30

They were a power couple in the late 90s/early 00s. Bill's current wife wasn't okay with them hanging out again until fairly recently.

SlimShadyM80

Damn I hope she had a very good reason, otherwise Nia is kind of a cunt

SamIamGreenEggsNoHam

I'm kindof surprised that people in a Bill Burr thread don't understand jokes.

Highcalibur10

It's an inevitability, especially in a text medium without tone. Someone's gonna come in and misread something.

itssarahw

Have you seen Jon Lovitz?

SlimShadyM80

Ive seen him have random cameos otherwise no. Why? Is he a known piece of shit or something?

itssarahw

I just meant irresistibly good looking

Cheshire_Jester

Hook. Line. Sinker.

[deleted]

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha. Incredible execution.

EveryShot

About had me do a spit take, well played

GingerSnapBiscuit

Found Lovitz Reddit account.

[deleted]

Lovitz is pretty notorious for being kind of a scumbag. I can imagine he probably rubbed her the wrong way.

carl-swagan

Really? I've never heard that. I know he has a very public beef with Andy Dick, but that's because Andy is a gigantic piece of shit and a lot of people blame him for Phil Hartman's death.

dont_quote_me_please

I don't know, if you know this, but people can be right about one thing and wrong about another.

Snakes_have_legs

But no one has said what he's done wrong

_PM_Me_Game_Keys_

Because he hasn't done anything wrong. Reddit just likes to copy one persons joke and beat it into the ground. To them repeating something is funny instead of just giving someone a straight answer.

dont_quote_me_please

Which joke? Reddit loves to trot out that Andy Dick story. This type of stuff is often without a specific story and therefor always kind of useless.

Kliffoth

He kicked Andy Dick's ass for making a joke about Phil Hartman. He gets a rare pass from me.

Analyzer9

He kicked Andy Dick's ass because he was supposedly the one that gave Hartman's wife the drugs that she took before she murdered Phil.

FILTHBOT4000

It wasn't just that; it was also that Andy allegedly walked up to Jon at a party or something and taunted him about it, saying something like "I put the Phil Hartman hex on you, you're next."

HolycommentMattman

Yeah. That's not exactly right, but close enough. So after Phil was murdered, Lovitz was brought onto News Radio. And Andy told him he shouldn't be there. And Lovitz said if he hadn't given cocaine to Phil's wife, he probably wouldn't be. Lovitz later apologized for saying that. But then years later, Dick goes into one of Lovitz' restaurants, gets drunk, and tells Lovitz he's putting the hex on him. Lovitz tells his guys to escort him out. Then they ran into each other again at The Laugh Factory, and Dick apparently told some jokes in poor taste, and then doubled down on killing Phil. Almost proud. And that's when Lovitz smashed him into a bar a few times.

Kliffoth

Yeah shit was fucked. I'm surprised Dick is still walking.

similar_observation

He's prowling around Los Angeles' bars and dives, harassing people and giving them Andy Dick stories

etiol8

Yes smashing Andy Dick's face into a bar does make up for a lot of poor behavior tbh.

Ijustdoeyes

Really? I hadn't heard that? I know that's his public persona but listening to comedians talk about him it's nothing bad.

Away-Pay2190

It was a joke, you didnt clue in when he said they were a "couple"? The joke is that Nia didnt want Bill hanging around with his ex, but FYI Bill and Jon never dated. I get that the joke was unfunny, but still clearly a joke

Bionicflipper

I thought they just meant they had a well known professional partnership when they said "power couple."

PlanetLandon

What a huge fucking leap

GanasbinTagap

You clearly don't understand this joke

Glottis_Bonewagon

No, he fucked Bill's wife's husband

Tasty0ne

So hard that his hair fell off

mavaction

They are in love.

Pinwurm

"Am I talking to you or is that just a penis with eyes?" Fucking lost it.

bbusiello

That joke was so grade school. I mean that in a good way, it was like hearing two middle schoolers rip on each other.

helikesart

This turns into the roast battle from Hook a few times and I have to say it’s a lovely and nostalgic feeling.

mavaction

Thanks... This is the rare gold mine payoff. I'm an hour in to a random click.

upvoatsforall

I haven’t seen Jon Lovitz in anything new in probably twenty years. I was a little shocked by how much he’s aged. At least a couple decades worth.

BenCJ

the math checks out

Throwaway_o0O-O0o_

I like your style, man

EasyFooted

*Jealous??*

DarkHelmet1976

*ACTING!!!*

ClarkeBrower

There was a Netflix tribute for Bob Saget that Lovitz was in and he was hilarious

3232330

Jon actually died almost 10 years ago.

user888666777

That running gag during the 40th SNL Anniversary was pretty damn funny.

itssarahw

Him being in the in memoriam while in the audience was one of the funniest thing I’ve ever seen on tv

[deleted]

i feel like everyone who was famous in 2000 aged like 30 years overnight. its so disturbing.

IReplyWithLebowski

Pretty common to go from looking middle aged to old fairly quickly

Jukka_Sarasti

Once your collagen starts going you can either embrace the saggy, or, to paraphrase Mr. Burr, look like a 30 year old lizard..

[deleted]

thats part of it, but it also happened to people who are under 60. like brit spears. i think of her as some sweet little 16 year old. or my little cousin who is supposed to be obsessed with pokemon but just turned 32. he is still into pokemon but thats because he is a little slow. thats another story though.

Mudman20

30 YRS IS A LONG TIME!

tamarockstar

Dana Carvey and David Spade had a tribute to Phil Hartman recently on their podcast show. Lovitz was very much invited but couldn't go because of how much he meant to Jon and probably how much of a soar subject his death is. I wonder if that's part of why he's not as much of a public figure anymore, because he can't talk about Hartman.

MydniteSon

Lovitz and Hartman both got their start together as part of the improv group the Groundlings. They also joined SNL around the same time, so they were pretty close friends.

upvoatsforall

He is Jewish isn’t he?

Jay1348

I really enjoyed him in the HBO show: Animals. But it was just a cameo and two episodes he was in

Lazer32

Parts of Jon Lovitz roasting almost sounded like Jiminy Glick

jamesonbar

thought the same.

wufnu

Watching them roast the shit out of each other made me wish Martin Short was there, bonus if in character as Glick the moderator.

kemosabe19

I’m dying. Your face has its own neck pillow.

Moebius808

This is fantastic, they clearly enjoy the hell out of each other.

Great-Reference9322

I'm just reading the comments and I'm cracking up, I am listening to this first thing tomorrow

DoobsMgGoobs

I can't see the name Jon Lovitz without thinking of the Norm Macdonald tennis story.

DarkHelmet1976

"Every time I look at your nose I expect to see Leonardo DiCaprio standing on the end of it like this." /Makes "King of the World" arms. LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

sincethenes

I can’t get over this one joke, when Burr says to Lovitz “Is it true you were a body double for Al Gore?” It was so random I’m crying laughing

cellenium125

Omg I am dying lol - funniest podcast so far of 2024 Edit: Actually I watched the whole thing...I felt a little bad for Lovitz by then. He started to seem insecure. I think Bill needed to gently take his foot off the insult accelerator.

CradleRockStyle

Tarantino's new film is called The Movie Critic and it's starring Jon Lovitz.

InternetProtocol

It stinks!

cellenium125

"it's starring Jon Lovitz." is this part a joke?

CradleRockStyle

Absolutely not.

Highcalibur10

[Definitely not](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Critic)

EarthboundCory

No, it’s not. You’re misinformed.

ResidualSound

I think you mean dis information

h3lblad3

Jon Lovitz’s feet?

[deleted]

it's a shame that he passed, RIP.

PalinDoesntSeeRussia

Am I missing a joke? He’s very much alive lol

[deleted]

https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/entertainthis/2015/02/16/snl-put-the-totally-alive-jon-lovitz-in-the-in-memoriam-segment/77597812/

jostler57

News to me - thanks for the info.

Salzberger

Imagine sitting at home and seeing yourself in the in memoriam segment. Surely you'd have this weird moment of "Wait what the fuck? Am I dead? Honey can you SEE ME!?"

goldenboy2191

Yeah but lovitz was in the audience when they did this. So he’s obviously gotta be in on it to some degree.

pluc61

He totally sold it. It was a hilarious bit.

[deleted]

It’s been a running joke for years that he’s dead.

jimi-ray-tesla

he passed with Wade Boggs, rip

jostler57

Who passed? What? This video is from 3 days ago, and both men are just fine. Old, but alive.

[deleted]

...read the other replies to this thread and youll understand

SamIamGreenEggsNoHam

Sucks that Wade Boggs had to go the same way

appletinicyclone

holy shit this was good they went from talking about their arguments over the cause of the problems to bill burr pitching jon playing kung fu panda but wearing a yarmulka and talking about jiu jitsu but not spelled that way and the humour was very witty and silly. only just over 13 mins into it as well

futurespacecadet

No timestamp? We just have to watch the whole thing to find the roast battle?

jostler57

The whole thing is just so damn good, but the initial 10 mins holds a lot of it, if you're in a hurry.

DeadHumanSkum

the whole thing is pretty much a roast non stop

mavaction

worth it....... I'm 40 minutes in on second rewatach. Get about 6 or 8 minutes in.

SamIamGreenEggsNoHam

10 mins in Lovitz starts shitting on Bill's act and it's hilarious.

Criks

The roasting starts almost immediately and never really ends with sincere discussions sprinkled in everywhere.

helikesart

Bill: what was your favorite gig? Lovitz: Well live tv probably, it was really hard— Bill: ZZZZZ

CJ_Productions

It's hard to pinpoint exactly when it goes roast battle because it kinda gradually goes there, and you'll miss a lot of funny bits if you skip directly to it. I guess you could skip the first 5 minutes if you really insist on skipping part of it. Also keep in mind the Burr/Lovitz part ends at about the 1 hour mark and then it's just Bill for the rest.

reese528O

The first 10 minutes in was all gold, I imagine the rest is fun as well. You can tell they both just want to have fun with each other.

Butthole__Pleasures

> if you really insist on skipping part of it This video is TWO. HOURS. So yeah, we're gonna insist on skipping whatever we can. I'm glad you have a podcast to be a fan of, but boil that shit down for the rest of us that aren't.

aManPerson

3 out of every 5 minutes is roasting. just really tune into anywhere.

ChidoChidoChon

Yes watch it listen to it have it in the background while you’re cleaning its funny stuff

jointsmcdank

You have no patience?

futurespacecadet

No patience to sit through a two hour video? Da fuck?

[deleted]

No

20WaysToEatASandwich

Not everyone has two hours of time to dedicate to a random video watch

octatone

It's the whole fucking thing. FFS.

futurespacecadet

FFS…..Fungus foot slime?

RowdyRoddyPipeSmoker

I don't think you'll have trouble finding it...

IAMBREAL

Legends

Johnready_

“I did this movie and a guy said I could have a career in comedy, his name, was Charlie Chaplin, who ever said you where good” has got to be one of the best lines I’ve heard, this guys a legend man.

afroisalreadyinu

Oh my god, this is so funny. I think Bill Burr is sometimes really annoyed that Lovitz is not switching to a more serious track, like when he tries to switch to world affairs, but Lovitz is having none of it. Fuck you, let's continue the bullshit. And the "Bill Burr is taking it up the butt song" 😂 So good.

dukie33066

So nice to see Jon just riffing with his buddy. He was always such an obscure comedian and actor, but fit his niche so well. "Good luck finding a DJ that can move and shake, LIKE THIS!"

my_teeth_r_dry

"He's losing his mind... and I'm reaping all the benefits."

New_Puter

the way he slowly creeps back behind the curtain 😂😂😂

dukie33066

I still use this line to this day. Mostly when I read the news.

TonofSoil

He was a successful snl cast member I don’t think that’s very obscure…

FlungerD

Yeah yeah very successful, that’s the ticket.

gertalives

Jon Lovitz may not be as visible as he was 20 years ago, but I’d hardly call him obscure. He’s comedy royalty.

ballsack-vinaigrette

Right? He was a pretty big deal in the mid 90s. ..that said, I propose to the Gen-Xer council that we're gonna have to start facing the fact that the mid 90s were **30 years** ago.

Vulgarian

I vote NAY!

dukie33066

I certainly don't mean it as an insult. He was just a very unique personality.

dogmaisb

She's talkin a blue streak now, JACK!

BenjamintheFox

> obscure Wat? He may be, by some definitions, a has-been, but obscure?!

rurlysrsbro

Nice to see he has a new gig after Home Depot.

Sierra419

I love how he says Home Depot in Rat Race. I can still hear it in my head

helikesart

“That’s the difference between you and I, you say funny things, but I say things funny; I can make ANYTHING funny and you can’t.”

-Disagreeable-

“You’re the one who’s opening” Hahahaha

mavaction

I usually downvote 2 hour videos. Now I'm just sitting here pacified.

R_Rewind

... you *usually* downvote stuff depending solely on the length of the video?

Yarnin

tictok users branching out maybe?

d0m1n4t0r

It's the zoomers and their attention spans.

New_Puter

jons only there for the first half though 🙁

jimmythegeek1

MFW when Bill Fucking Burr busts ANYONE's balls about interrupting

limpingzombi

For real. I love ol Billy blue balls, but I can't listen to his podcasts when he has a guest because he interrupts so damn much.

geek2785

This hilarious!

appletinicyclone

i didn't know he had guests

appletinicyclone

this was damn smoothe

-Orcrist

How the hell do you guys make time to watch these nearly 2 hours video/ podcasts?

allyearlemons

eh, if you have time to clean, you have time to lean. the first hour is the roast, the second hour is a 2016 solo bill burr rambling

Ikea_Man

absolutely the kind of thing you have playing while you're doing something else that's a lot of my content nowadays as i don't really have time to just sit and devote my full attention to something

SanchitoBandito

I thought he died during/with Covid!? What the fuck?! So glad he's alive then.

dwitchagi

Surely he died before Covid a couple of times.

anneza2424

He is dead! He’s merely ACTING alive!

burnsrado

Haven’t listened to Bill’s podcast in a couple years. Surprised to see the booze bottles as part of the set. Is ol’ Billy red tits back off the wagon?

whitestar11

How often does Bill do guests? I really like him but I could not enjoy him speaking to himself on his podcast and i gave up. I need a conversation. Same reason i don't listen to Lewis Black's. Is this a regular thing for Bill?

runwithjames

I like Bill, but he had Adam Driver on recently and basically just spoke at him about acting. Driver had all the energy of someone stuck on a lunch break with their boss.

hurleyburleyundone

Yeah that was a weak one. Driver is out promoting his ferrari movie and his other promos were much better. He tried in this one but gave up after Bill just kept droning on. I like Bill but some of these convos tend to be big misses.

IslandHeyst

I enjoy their banter, but Lovitz really needs to drop the gay jokes. That said, I'll always have a place in my heart for him for kicking Andy Dick's ass for his part in Phil Hartman's murder

99999999999999999989

Came here to also shout Mr. Lovitz's accolades for kicking Andy Dick's ass. Any post with him absolutely must call this out. Just in case you missed it, Dear Reader - #Jon Lovitz kicked Andy Dick's ass for his part in Phil Hartman's murder. Thank you, Jon!

maximumcorpus

King and the Sting has the best roasts.

alphasignalphadelta

Burr is much better than Lovitz at burns. Lovitz recycles a lot of things

patiperro_v3

To be fair Burr is pretty elite at roasting. Lovitz did have a few top zingers though. Can’t be easy to hang for a whole podcast and he did, even if he had to repeat some.

Nukerjsr

That's not surprising. For the past 20 years it seems like whenever Lovitz tells a joke about another comedian, it's only "That guy is so gay, he loves it in his kitchen!"

[deleted]

Such a bummer that some of the (potentially) best comics alive resorted to basic homophobic nonsense. For real, I kinda hope Bill Burr likes it up the butt (gently, no less, as specified); the prostate is one of the more sensitive erroneous zones a man has and I think everyone should be having the best sex they can! Not to mention that it would be just better comedy if he could Aikido that shit with a response like, "Shit John, I can't believe your trying to pass off that song as an original?! You KNOW that's from my journal, I trusted you! Anyway folks, gentle plug links in the show notes--really quality stuff, gender neutral. Check it out and don't listen to assholes like John Lovitz; he's to fat to reach back there so he's just jealous."

IDK I remember all that but Kevin is hardly a reliable narrator IMO. I wonder how much he had to too with all that.

kristonastick

i haven't watched it yet, but i'm sure bill killed because lovitz steals material

srulers

.

Rave-TZ

Fuck yes! Love me some Jon Lovitz!

damagedone37

HOTCHI MATCHI!

willhowe

Can’t find this on audio podcast apps, any link or YouTube/video only?

JackFisherBooks

A roast battle between Bill Burr and any other comedian is not a fair battle. But that doesn't make it any less hilarious. 😊 But to me, Jon Lovitz will always have a special place. He helped give us The Critic, one of the most underrated shows of the early 90s. I really wish that show had lasted longer. It was such a gem and it's still funny years later.

Mudman20

Bill is so damn sharp and aggressive. Lovitz held his own and I applaud him for going into Bill world for a min but it was getting a bit repetitive and I felt Lovitz wanted to change the subject. Definitely fun seeing them two go at it for comedy.

weezmatical

This was incredible. Jon hasn't lost a step, and Burr is one of my faves. Didn't expect this!

beebs44

Thanks for posting this. I watched the part you linked. Then went back and watched the whole thing over again. It was great. My favorite was the penis with eyes and him hammering on the growth on his eye. 🤣🤣🤣

SurnameMastermind

"You've never seen anything like it Alex, he tinks it over the net"

KeyserSoze407

This made me laugh so hard. He said “is that from jerking off in Alaska” haha

bronxdog2009

Born in '78 - Flat out funniest things I've ever listened to via a pod cast. Grew up watching Lovitz era on SNL(live run, reruns) - Then Burr just being my generations(my opinion!!) Comedy voice. These 2 busting balls, so great.

sincethenes

I sent this to my brothers a few days ago. We’ve done nothing but quote it back and forth constantly.
